We are at a wedding in Ireland the weekend of the baby show which is frustrating. Had planned to drag mum down and look for some bargains!

Am suffering quite badly with what I think must be heartburn/acid reflux. Constantly feels like I have an acid burn at the back of my throat, and nothing seems to make it go away. Anyone else had this? Any tips?

Badgerbird · 07/02/2017 16:33

mrsjw I find not going too long between meals/snacks helps even if it's just dry crackers. Lots of water and good ol rennies! I laughed when I realised they!sell them at the tills in mothercare :)

teainbed · 07/02/2017 16:37

I have dry eyes and am using Xailin drops just now. Also have awful heartburn and on omeprazole! Lovely.

Just back from antenatal clinic at the hospital. They've given me 3 weeks off for good behaviour. Grin

savagehk · 07/02/2017 16:54

mrsJW this is what dilute ENO is for. (www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/eno-fruit-salt) - it was pulled from the UK a while back though so is hard to find, although I did find some at a local pharmacy recently so perhaps it's made a comeback. (Get the non-flavoured one!)

Adventure I wear glasses, got a new set at the start of this pregnancy and mentioned to the optometrist that I was pg in case it affected anything (had read somewhere it might?!) and she said that normally the only thing eye-related that happens is the dry-eyes-contacts-thing.

Sauvignonismysaviour · 07/02/2017 16:59

This thread moves so fast! I came on earlier to mention something and then forgot what it was as I was catching up with all the reading!

I agree with coxsorangepippin that the John Lewis nursery service is well worth it especially for a first timer like me. I had felt very disorganised but feel a little more knowledgeable now! Narrowed it down to Oyster 2 and iCandy strawberry and will make a final decision soon hopefully. (Thoughts gratefully received!)

I'm having weird occurrences in the mornings in that about 15 minutes after I have breakfast, I feel sick and really faint and have either fainted or had to lie down and wait for it to pass - anyone else experienced this? A brief google would suggest low blood pressure is to blame ... and it is low, at 90/50! Got heart and lung check with GP this week and am under consultants for hypothyroid so will mention it. Rather ungainly lying on the floor at work though!

MrsJW15 · 07/02/2017 17:15

Thanks ladies, I'll look out for Rennies while we are away. Savage I hate mediciney things that you drink so that may not work for me.
Sauvignon that sounds scary, but sounds like you've got all the doctors on it!

Rustler74 · 07/02/2017 17:18

Thanks ladies for your support on the work thingy. It's just waiting until Monday now, when I see Occu health.
I also agree re JL nursery service. Not sure where we are going to get the money for everything but hey...
Sauvignon I would prefer iCandy as the Oyster was so low for me with regards to where the carrycot was. I also really didn't like the quality of the Oyster carrycot. ICandy came out much better in quality for comparative prices. The colours were similar too. Ideally I'm thinking Uppababy but the budget may not stretch that far...
I'll wait for the baby show now, which is only 3 weeks away. I hope to do some bargain there or at least I'll have the chance to compare properly between the brands.

That swim was just divine and baby loved it, too! I had serious pain in my back this morning and half an hour of weightlessness just did the trick without any paracetamol. I may have overdone it with 500m as Mr Braxton is doing overtime now! Choir tonight and only 4 rehearsals until concert!

RasperryInAMelon · 07/02/2017 17:57

Same here Badger I've been fine the last few days, managed to stay up until gone 10. Today... wiped! Little bean is doing somersaults on my bladder, my back aches, I have a migraine, I'm tired and I just want to get home. I could pretty much moan about everything and anything right now

Goodness me, what a chatty bunch. Back from a long weekend away in the Lake District and it's taken me ages to catch up.

I think I'm in the 'shattered all the time' camp, but not sure if it's due to the cold I'm battling. The last 4 days I've needed an afternoon nap and slept about 9-10 hours each night. I don't think the 4 hour walk yesterday helped though - normally I'd find that sort of hike easy but needed to sit to rest 3 times and for the last hour coming downhill every step hurt my pelvis at the back. Thankfully no pain today but still shattered and don't know how I'll manage 3 full days at work with no naps!

growcookeat · 07/02/2017 18:48

Interesting to hear all the ups and downs of pregnancy. I feel the same! Was feeling much better this week, recovered from tummy bug and now am sure I'm coming down with a cold! I normally don't ever get ill but atm seem to be catching everything going. Which, working in a school, is a lot! Is it likely to just be just the extra pressure on my body/immune system do you think? Anything that might help? Vitamins etc?

Labour stories sorry if too much info

Dd1

Irritable uterus with regular contractions from 26 weeks so I was given steroids with hospital stay and monitoring when they were bad. But never had effect of cervix thankfully. But they were continuous from 36 weeks.

Sweep at 40+3 contractions continued and lost plug over next couple of days. 40+5 something felt different so I went to the hospital at 11pm I was 4cm so they kept me in as I needed antibiotics for group b strep. 1am I was told it was not labour as still 4cm and had stopped contracting. 2.30 am I went to the toilet waters burst and had to be taken to the bad to give birth. She was born within the hour. So active labour was less than 2 hours.

My labour pains are all only just above my pubic bone like bad period pain.

Dd2
Irritable uterus started at 33 weeks thankfully much later than the first time.
I was in hospital for routine appointment at 38 weeks and the realised she was transverse and I was contracting. She was head down up till 37 weeks.

I had the choice of emergency c section in the hour or ecv and induction.

I chose ecv and induction. Ecv was very quick and painless followed by first pessary, which did nothing for 12 hours.
2nd pessary contractions started immediately 10 mins apart and were on and off for 12 hours, by then I was 1-2cm so they managed to break my waters, which had no effect on contractions.

6hours later they started me on the drop where my contractions were more regular but after 6 hours of the max dose I was still 1-2am. They realised she was back to back and classed it as a failed induction. They started preping for a c-section.

Then I felt the need to go to the toilet they checked and I was crowning!

So it was 2cm to birth in under an hour.

EsmesBees · 07/02/2017 19:19

I'm in the shattered camp too. Plus I think my toddler is getting ill. And work is crazy at the moment so it's going to be hard to take time off to look after her.

newbieho · 07/02/2017 19:57

Growcookeat I am down with stingy cold. Usually I would stuff myself with lemsip or sinutab but not this time as they are not advised in preg 😒 relying on lemon, honey and ginger hot water, garlic, clementines, kiwi and whatever could help...hate being sick Confused

beanandturnip · 07/02/2017 19:57

I'm in the tired camp too, but can't work out if it is spud or pneumonia. Been off work since 17th Jan and due back next Monday. I am looking forward to going back as being stuck in the house is driving me mad.

When is everybody thinking of going on Mat leave? I'm currently thinking of leaving at 36wks, due to prior incompetent cervix with my second. And I am a bridesmaid when I am 37wks + 2, so can help the bride in the run up 😊

Anybody else been tested for diabetes? This is my third baby, but my dad has just been diagnosed with diabetes so now I'm at risk and they want to test. I have gtt booked next week. Does anyone have any advice?

beanandturnip · 07/02/2017 19:59

Also, we've booked the Saturday for excel baby event 👶🏼

coxsorangepippin · 07/02/2017 20:25

Joining the tired team here! Had a lovely weekend away and just back at work today - but I'm only just now on the train home from work due to the catching-up so I'm already shattered again, oops!

On the plus side bought a nice seraphine maternity coat 2nd hand on eBay very cheaply!

MrsJW15 · 07/02/2017 20:30

Good work cox, I'm worrying about how much longer my coat will last. Seems a long way until summer!
I'm not too tired (being away helps) but I'm very aches and uncomfortable. And we still have so long to go!

Tickyboovicki · 07/02/2017 20:31

bean I originally booked to start ml at 38 weeks, but today brought it forward to 37 weeks and booked a weeks annual leave, so technically off from 36 weeks. And in the month before I used 4 days holiday so I'm working 4 day weeks with 2 long weekends

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 07/02/2017 20:47

Just cracked out the V pillow from Aldi baby event - why did I wait it's perfect for lolling!

bean I'm going off at 38 weeks with 3 four day weeks leading up to ML

EsmesBees · 07/02/2017 20:53

bean is that the test where they make you drink lucozade and fast? If so, my advice would be to bring a good book as there is a lot of waiting around, starving.

Working right up to a week before due date. Want to save the time for the other side. It's going to be a long slog.

Autumnsweater · 07/02/2017 21:09

I'm working up until a week before due date too (unless baby decides otherwiseWink). Have booked a few days off so doing four day weeks the month before.

Badgerbird · 07/02/2017 21:15

mrscroco raspberry grow sorry to hear you're all up n down too! I'm still trying not to feel guilty for resting, so used to just getting on with things. Reckon she's having a growth spurt or something as she's been v wriggly today so maybe that's why I feel under the weather....

Blimey barnes not surprised your shattered! I'd have loved that kind of hike pre pregnancy too but know I'd struggle now.

mcbaby thanks for sharing your story.

I've been on lookout for nice maternity coat cox. Got all excited about some 3 in 1 coats I'd ordered for maternity & baby wearing but none fit :( gonna keep my eye on eBay

uptown8617 · 07/02/2017 21:17

Bean I had the GTT this morning. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The sugary drink wasn't too bad and I took some work with me so the two hour wait went quite quickly. I didn't feel particularly hungry by the end but they gave me a brew and some toast before I could leave.

peasandquiet · 07/02/2017 21:22

Baby show veterans what do you think are my chances of buying a single bed there for a child? Thinking it's the perfect opportunity to try my toddler on a buggy board tho he will be bored as anything will just have to keep handing over the snacks!
I'm finishing at 36 wks and then using AL till my DD. Starting to think it might be an idea to bring it forward but I can't decide. Will play it by ear, if my health declines I'll go off early. I'm lucky to have a boss who it's very understanding/accepting and will just go with the flow.
Badger are you a big coat wearer, or are you outside a lot? Spring is nearly here so you should be ok with a normal coat open in the next few weeks. And you can use a carrier over a coat next autumn/winter. I nearly got tempted by a jo jo pea coat in my first pregnancy but I really wouldn't have got a lot of wear so glad I didn't.

Barnes79 · 07/02/2017 21:30

They should warn you if there's a 2 hour wait as part of the GTT! I don't think I've booked enough time off work for it and I'll have patients booked in who will have to be rearranged. Shock

Anyone else still struggling with the body changes? I'm getting fed up of having to buy new bras - started as a 34C, now at about a 38E (but struggling by with 36DD bras with an extender, hence the bra shopping annoyance rearing its ugly head again). I mentioned to DH being fed up with the boob growth and his helpful (?!?) response was to ask if I was sure I wasn't eating too many calories. Angry Not exactly what I needed to hear when already struggling with my body changing (currently typing this with tears in my eyes whilst he obliviously looks at baby names). Sorry, rant over Blush
