I hope everyone is ok!

We have had a rough time of baby having trapped wind / colic. Finally getting some gripe water yesterday has made such a difference! Hurrah 😁 also steadily seem to be getting the lo to sleep a bit more at night so I count that as progress!

Bigfam · 01/02/2017 12:07

I think it's gotten a bit better now. Her vaccinations definitely messed her up last night, she normally sleeps from 9-10pm until 3-4am, last night she was up at 1, 3 & 5am, which woke up Dd3 who's been awake ever since! We've decided to start potty training as she turned 2 Saturday. It's like she's a pro, no accidents on the floor and she even squeezed out a steaming 💩 in there earlier (sorry tmi)!!!!

DartmoorDoughnut · 01/02/2017 13:49

Wow bigfam you really do parent like a pro! I'm in awe - am also putting off potty training until at least Easter as I can't be doing with it right now Grin

Thanks stripey you've reminded me to get some gripe water! My DM suggested it but I'd completely forgotten, he does struggle in the evenings to get things moving bless him!

mejse hope the new cast is going ok, what a star your LO is!

Bigfam · 01/02/2017 14:15

Oh no dartmoor, it's all on Dd3. All I did was whip her nappy off and put the potty down, I've always been really open with them and if I'm in the loo they normally toddle in there, so they know what's going on haha 😂

Bigfam · 01/02/2017 14:19

If anyone's lo has cradle cap, this little brush is a miracle. Use baby oil with it. The only thing was all the dead skin got stuck in her hair & was a nightmare to get out! I got the majority of it but it took a while so will do the rest next week

wilfrhodes · 01/02/2017 16:11

just over three weeks since the wilfling was born and i am amazed at how besotted i am. never been a baby/child person to the extent i almost didn't have one. brain chemistry/hormones are a funny thing! Grin

nurserosie you don't need me to say this, but your health visitor is a dick! there's more to breastfeeding than just being a milk cow. quite apart from the insult to you and your needs, there's a lack of understanding about other aspects of bfing, such as the skin contact and the comforting element.

having had my own bfing nightmare (wilfling lost a ton of weight; i now bottlefeed), i am so grateful for the superb support i got from my local hcps, but also stunned at the ignorance on display in the wider world, and from people who are paid to advise others. /ranty

wilfrhodes · 01/02/2017 16:14

also, my mum always put me out in the front garden in my pram. and the wilfling is certainly quick to settle as soon as i take her out for a walk.

NurseRosie · 01/02/2017 18:20

bigfam ive used the miracle of coconut oil on lo cradle cap and dry skin. It's worked miracles. wilf ive found breastfeeding hard enough so not going to make my life harder. I was wondering whether to express and split to an ounce a bottle just to mix the gaviscon with, so give lo that and then put on the breast. That might work and be easier than the whole mixing and latching off fiasco. Lo is 12 weeks on Sunday, where has the time gone?

blue2014 · 01/02/2017 18:26

I've always just lurked here but just popping on to say, I make up the gavison with breast milk into little syringes and keep it in the fridge bringing one out at each feed, I try to do it mid feed but if not do it after. Bluelet takes to it fine, just in case that helps.

NurseRosie · 01/02/2017 22:01

blue that is good advice thanks x

duxb · 01/02/2017 23:21

Hope everyone is doing well and these babies are behaving a little more!

Popskipiekin · 02/02/2017 10:46

Ok tmi but I feel we know each other well enough now, ladies. At least, I hope so!
Please can anyone help me with my own terrible gassiness!! Blush Ever since giving birth I have been letting rip constantly. It would be funny if it wasn't so awful and disgusting! Seriously nasty smells and I have little control over it, it's terribly embarrassing - fortunately by myself, with only a small child, for much of the time otherwise I don't know what I'd do. I'm not constipated, I've cut all gassy foods from my diet. Is this a pelvic floor/perineum issue? Would kegels help? (Doing them anyway) 7 weeks on from birth and no sign of improvement. Has anyone experienced same and it's hopefully gone away in time, or any advice? Thank you! BlushBlushBlush

blue2014 · 02/02/2017 13:13

(Me too Pop Blush and I assume it's not pelvic floor related as I had a c section)

stripeyorangesocks71 · 02/02/2017 17:12

I was really gassy in the first few weeks and suffered a lot with trapped wind, it seems to have subsided a bit now but I remember the midwife at the hospital telling me it was because everything had got crushed up by baby and it takes a while for your body (stomach, bowels etc) to get back to 'normal'. Sorry I can't be of much use :/ but if you're really concerned then please speak to a doctor / pharmacist about it Smile

NurseRosie · 02/02/2017 17:45

Lo has bern "napping" for 3 and a half hours, should i wake him?

Londonmamabychance · 02/02/2017 23:35

Haha, glad everyone thinks it's ok to leave baby sleeping outside, would go nuts if I couldnt.

I was really gassy too the first weeks after birth, it cleared up by itself.

Today put baby in the bath with DD and she was intrigued by his little willy and I asked her what she's thought it was, and she pointed to the testicles and said olives! Grin I love seeing them together Smile she also comes to kiss him all the time and when she managed her first poo ever in the potty yesterday, she shouted out 'I did it, baby!" ❤️❤️

Bigfam · 03/02/2017 01:34

That is so sweet london 😂 at olives. Dd3 hates ds' todger, he had to get out of the bath the other day because she was crying about it!

Lovewatchingrainfall · 04/02/2017 05:34

Had my first night away from my baby last night and it was awful!! It's been such a hard week but yesterday my eldest was rushed to hospital after a week of temperatures at 40. She had to stay the night and wanted mummy to stay so I have spent the night in an awful hospital chair listening to her cry because she wants to go home Sad and she wants to see her sister but can't as babies are not allowed on the ward if they have not had their jabs. She is only 4 and trying to explain this is awful!

How are babies doing weight wise? My LO is putting on so much weight at only 6weeks she already weighs 5.55kg
I have just got over a very gassy stage and the smell was awful! But yes it is just the body just getting back to shape can take up to 12weeks.

Sorry about the long post

Mejse · 04/02/2017 07:26

love that sounds really tough. Do you know what was wrong or when you can expect to go home? I hope your daughter recovers quickly.

My LO is quite the chunky little thing at 4 weeks he is almost 6kg. The health visitor said that because he is breast feeding I shouldn't worry. He was 4.2kg at birth and above average at all our growth scans so always been quite big.

Lovewatchingrainfall · 04/02/2017 07:36

They are still just ruling things out. They were worried about it being her appendix but have ruled that out so they are not sure. Will be staying in till she is better.

Bigfam · 04/02/2017 09:37

Oh love sorry to hear your dd is so unwell, I hope they can get to the bottom of it quickly and you can all be together soon, get soon littlelove

Can't believe how fast she's growing!

KitKat1985 · 04/02/2017 11:29

Oh love I hope your DD1 gets well soon. Must be very hard for you both being away from baby too.

Lovely picture BigFam. Baby KitKat is 3 months old next week. Bonkers!

Had a luxurious couple of nights of sleep - so last night she did 10.45pm - 6am, had a brief feed then back to sleep until 8.30am! The night before she did 10.30pm - 7am (!), had a brief feed then back to sleep until 9am! DD1 was a bloody awful sleeper (often awake hourly) so this is a real novelty! And everything is so much easier for some sleep, whereas I really struggled with DD1 (looking back I think I had PND), which I think was heavily impacted on by sheer exhaustion. Anyway the point of posting this is to say to all the mums struggling with lack of sleep and finding the baby stage hard, don't compare your experience to people's babies who are good sleepers and wonder why they are enjoying it and you are not because it's utterly different. Also don't blame yourself for your baby being a bad sleeper. I've done exactly the same things with DD1 and DD2 and one was a bad sleeper and one has been good. I had to listen to so much 'making a rod for your own back' crap with DD1 and I honestly just think it's luck as to if you get a good sleeper or not.

Now to go and await the 4-month sleep regression and teething sleep related disturbances to ruin my joy.....

SolomanDaisy · 04/02/2017 14:18

Love, that sounds awful. I hope she's feeling better soon.

Bigfam, how cute! Is that still her birth hair? It's really long! DD has lost about half of her birth hair and has new hair coming through, so her hairstyle is a bit odd!

kitkat, congratulations on getting a good sleeper! I think you're right, that is really the difference between enjoying the baby stage and not. I've been lucky with both of mine and it's certainly nothing I've done as I haven't had routines, I breastfed etc. all the things that are supposed to create bad sleepers! I had a really disturbed night last night as DD has cold and couldn't settle and I feel terrible today! Doing that every night would be a nightmare.

Has anyone else's baby got a massive double chin?! Mine is just below the fifth centile for weight, but she has a really chubby face!

Bigfam · 04/02/2017 15:57

Yes it is Soloman She's lost quite a bit of it but I can see where the new hair is coming through, it's a lot fluffier. She's lost the least of all my dc though, they all went through the old man phase, sort of bald on top and wispy sides Smile
How is your dd today love?

Lovewatchingrainfall · 04/02/2017 17:28

Thank you all. They are treating her with IV antibiotics not 100% sure what they are treating. Such a hard time.
