OK, someone tell me which sling to buy as I don't even know where to start making the decision!
I think GMM mentioned wilkinet, will go and have a look at those.

flumppootle · 15/02/2007 10:08

Morning
Had a very fun evening last night meal was lovely. Absolutely shattered but happy today.

LOL at thread title Ellie.
Yeah! to last day at work 8wks

Have fun at the hair dressers Liath, its a nightmare getting toddlers to sit still for hair cuts isn't it?

How are you feeling today cd and eca?

Got to take dd to optitions today. Her glasses got broken whilst scrapping with ds the other night. Other dd has to gone to the farm on a school trip so am wondering what state she will come home in - lol.

Only 1 more sleep until half term... HUURAY

flumppootle · 15/02/2007 10:09

Katy, I have a baby bjorn sling but I am not that impressed with it and only use it when I really have to if that helps

Katy44 · 15/02/2007 10:11

Thanks flumpootle - one to avoid!
Quite like the look of the Ellaroo ones so far.
Did you go out last night or have a meal in?

flumppootle · 15/02/2007 10:13

We cooked a grown up meal at home and set the table properly with candles and stuff. It was lovely, should really make the effort to do it more often.

maveta · 15/02/2007 10:18

Hi Girls, I´m back. Just waiting for mum to come round so we can go for a lovely walk in the country. Will try and get some picks of the almond blossom to post on my profile. Katy44 - no experience of slings yet but I was looking at a ring sling like the freedom sling OR a wrap like hug a bub.. as it was dh felt like the ring sling was too ´girly´ so we were going for the wrap. BUT was worried this might be too hot come summer so a couple of MNetters recommended calin bleu gauze wraps. Have a look at their website, their slings look really nice and cheaper (I think) than hug a bub.

I guess it depends on what you need but I am keen to get one that dh will also want to use and that won´t be too hot to wear with a sweaty baby and mummy all wrapped up together!

Honestly, it seems just as you´ve made a decision over one item you just find another who9le load of things you have to decide on, doesn´t it?

maveta · 15/02/2007 10:21

And whoever recommended ebay for nappies/ wraps has a lot to answer for! Haven´t bought anything yet but got a few bids going on and can see it all getting horribly out of control!!

Katy44 · 15/02/2007 10:23

flumpootle, it is nice when you do that isn't it? Might try to make the effort tonight.
maveta, I'll look at the gauze wraps. Hadn't even thought about the heat aspect - although I suppose it worries you more than us!
Boots man has just delivered - I am now the proud owner of a moses basket, baby monitor, nappy pail and top and tail bowl!! (Oh and some cotton wool and 2 packs of nappies)
It's all so exciting!

weeonion · 15/02/2007 10:36

while we are looking for advice. what kind of monitors are you getting / woudl you recommend. we have a tommee tippee walkabout one but i am thining of getting one that has a pad to go under the baby. has anyone eused them before?

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 15/02/2007 10:42

Morning all.

Liath, grrrrr to your dh.

Flump, glad your evening went well - v romantic!

Bigandround, really pleased you are feeling better today.

8.5 weeks, wow 10 hours sleep - how wonderful. Glad you are feeling better and hope you enjoy your meal out tonight.

Hello to everyone else.

I had a crap nights' sleep sadly. Had the most horrendous acid indigestion/reflux I have ever experienced. Felt like my throat was on fire. I eventually took some Gaviscon tablets at 4.00 and slept until 7.30 which wasn't too bad. Woke up though still with indigestion and couldn't tolerate any drink or breakfast. Have bought some liquid gaviscon and managed tea and toast, but still really painful.
What food/drink is good for indigestion?

Having a lazy morning. Dd at preschool until 1.00 and then we are going to a friends birthday party at a soft play place later on.

flumppootle · 15/02/2007 10:55

Oh Sol, sorry you had another rubbish night heartburn is horrible. I try to drink milk when I get it but I have no idea if that would help or make it worse.
Have a good walk Maveta.
How exctitng katy your house filling up with baby things! I still like all that even with number 4.
Weeonion, I have never used one of those monitors (also have the walkabout one) becasue all my babies have slept on our room until six months for bf. Alot of the mums at school swear by them, sorry not much help.

Katy44 · 15/02/2007 10:57

SOSPL I think milk is recommended but has never worked for me (although it doesn't make it worse). I find the only thing that helps is drinking loads of cold water. And gaviscon of course! I find mine can get really bad when I'm stressed - not that that helps, as 'don't get stressed' is the most useless advice ever!

liath · 15/02/2007 10:57

Re slings - used a ring sling at first which was fab as dd was a real clingon. Then used baby bjorn which i wouldn't recommend as dd got too heavy for it quite fast and we had stupidly bought the one without a lumbar support. Am planning to buy an ergo this time as it tends to get raved about on MN sling threads!

WO - can't stop thinking about amby nests !

flumppootle · 15/02/2007 11:02

Liath how do you know if your baby bjorn sling has lumbar support or not??? I had no idea that they might not.

Katy44 · 15/02/2007 11:03

There are MN sling threads??
(off to do a search)

Katy44 · 15/02/2007 11:05

Well here you go
wo I think there was a monitors thread a while back which I was watching - I'll see if I can find it. I got the tommee tippee temperature one, but haven't even got it out of its box yet so no idea if it's any good!

liath · 15/02/2007 11:06

The standard baby bjorn doesn't have lumbar support so you carry all the weight through your shoulders. The one with lumbar support is called the active carrier or something along those lines!

Katy44 · 15/02/2007 11:06

comparison of different slings

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 15/02/2007 11:07

Thanks ladies. I have had a look at some archived messages and milk seems to be good as does yoghurt and ice cream - YUMMY!
I think yum yums are now going to be ditched, as bread/pastry seems to be the culprit for me.

flumppootle · 15/02/2007 11:09

Ohhhh so its lumbar support for the wearer not the baby....sorry got completely the wrong end of the stick there Thanks Liath mine is sore on the shoulders which is why I dont like it, makes sense now.

Katy44 · 15/02/2007 11:10

baby monitor thread

liath · 15/02/2007 11:11

The most useful carrier I had was the hippy chick hip seat - dd lived on it from about 10 months on. I have turned into an expert on how to cope with klingons!

Today was a big breakthough as I got the ironing done while she amused herself - that has NEVER happened before so a good omen that she's getting more independant in time for when number 2 arrives!

Katy44 · 15/02/2007 11:15

liath - did you not find it restrctive that you needed to have one arm round your dd? What made it so good - it's certainly the most interesting one I've seen so far!

Bramshott · 15/02/2007 11:22

SOSPL - Sorry you had a bad night. I don't often get heartburn, but awful indigestion and trapped wind, and one thing I do when it's bad is drink hot water with slices of lemon in. Lemon is good for cleaning and 'sterilising' your digestive system.

Sling - I've got the Mothercare 3-way one and I wouldn't buy it again (!). Got it because it can go on your back from 6 months, but what it should say is " can go on your back if you're over 5'7'' " - which I'm not! The babybjorn ones are pretty good I think, esp the new active type one.

liath · 15/02/2007 11:23

It was less restrictive than the alternatives of either dd screaming to be picked up or carrying her around all the time without the hip seat, which was a pain as I've got a bad back ! I got pretty good at doing things one handed.

Maybe I should have been firmer at making her stay put but I'm too big a softee and felt that perhaps in the long run it was better for her to be carried around if that was what made her happiest, might make her more confident & secure (I hoped!).
