Precious first born thread - very funny

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 18/02/2007 20:15

i love it, took matthew on his first holiday exactly 2 years ago (for my birthday, not just that i'm sad enough to know it was 18-21st feb!)

this time going to an adults only, 80's weekend!

eca - I hate moisturising! (Could possibly be the reason for the dry skin and stretch marks!!) I feel really uncmofortable for ages afterwards and can't put clothes on or get into bed without soaking everything. Urgh.

Katy44 · 18/02/2007 20:17

That sounds fantastic - do you mean 80s music or do you have to do your hair big and dress in legwarmers? (or was that the 70s??)

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 18/02/2007 20:21

bit of both i think, am off shopping this week to find us all 80's clothes! any suggestions? being only 8 at the end of the decade i don't really know what 80's fashion was

they've got all sorts of 80's tributes and stuff on too.

maybe you just haven't found the right moisturiser yet? i only use olay on my face as everything else sat on the surface, try a few different ones, lotions and creams, and i'm sure you'll find one that works.

Katy44 · 18/02/2007 20:26

Anything with horizontal stripes - those big jumpers that are red and black (baggy though or you'll look like dennis the menace)
Leggings (although you can't wear boots so they're unlikely to be flattering)
Or you could just dress as madonna singing holiday!

Katy44 · 18/02/2007 20:27

I was 10 at the end of the 80s by the way, think I spent most of the decade in knitted jumpers with dogs on them, so take my advice with a pinch of salt

Katy44 · 18/02/2007 20:28

that's stiletto boots I mean
If anyone is reading this wondering what image I have in my mind...well so do I!
I have hundreds of creams in my bathroom cabinets, might go and try a few different ones out!

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 18/02/2007 20:34

eca - i have a swinging crib that was made 25 years ago for my birth by my great-grandfather. it has been used for every family baby since then and has name plaques on for each of us! i only used it for a few nights for matthew but found that a square-ended pram mattress fitted it and could then be used as a spare for the pram, have a look around, you might be surprised.

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 18/02/2007 20:36

katy what are you trying to do to me? horizontal stripes? with a belly this big and i bloody well can wear stilletto boots, and regularly do

OP posts:
eca · 18/02/2007 20:36

lol Katy - perhaps that is the reason for the dry skin then! I've just accepted being greasy 24/7 during this pregnancy. I'm using bodyshop vit E bodybutter. dh calls me a greasy chip. Having said that, i do usually use Olay on my face and that's not greasy at all. I think lotions are lighter than creams. Bio-oil is fatal, total grease sheen!

Ellie - fluorescent pink, fluorescent orange, fluorescent yellow... and on and on and on!!!!

eca · 18/02/2007 20:40

Ellie, that's soooo sweet! I think Uncle, with my dad as willing side-kick, is wanting a smilar tradition to begin with my lo! Am really pleased to have it really (hope I didn't sound too ungrateful!) And rocking motion is meant to be really good for the baby and we would never afford one of those lush delux rocking cribs (can't remember name) that one or two people have got!

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 18/02/2007 20:50

eca mothercare do them in that size, here just as expensive but if they do them then other places will too!

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 18/02/2007 20:53

mine is just like this
was made for me, then used for my sister, 2 brothers, 3 cousins, at least 9 2nd/3rd cousins, then was fixed up for me to use for matthew, my sister has used it for her two, and now back to me exactly 25 years on!

Evening all, so much to catch to catch up:

54 days - sorry to hear you had a trip to hospital already. Hope you have a relaxing week at your sisters.

MIABT - pmsl at Phil feeling "like a dog with 2 di*ks" comments! Men are a different breed aren't they? Sorry to hear you have been feeling blue. Love to you sweetheart.

On that note, Eddas, pmsl at your fella's ebay purchase! Is that not like buying an incomplete jigsaw?

Ellie, glad you had a lovely weekend.

Hello to everyone else who I have not named - I am thinking about you.

Had a hectic weekend. Went to friends (my midwife) for lunch yesterday and then today we had friends over for lunch. They have a ds Becky's age and a 3.5 month old dd - really sweet and so laid back - am hoping that this one will be relaxed! So a lot of eating action. Gladly, indigestion has not reared up too badly considering.

Well, after the success of 1 dry night with B, she woke at 2.00 this morning wet! Such a pain, but inevitable. Sadly after waking up, took me ages to get back to sleep again, so am looking forward to and hoping for an undisturbed night tonight - keep your fingers crossed all!!

Hope everyone has had a good weekend and are all feeling tickity boo. xx

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 18/02/2007 21:12

has anyone tried charity shops?

i found them a lifeline when pg with matthew as i was completely on my own, and as this time i am again on my own, and my ex has managed to lose his job, i ventured into them again last week.

have found that the more up-market the town, the better the stock! went into the ones in uttoxeter when staying at stephen's last week and found loads of immaculate next clothing for less than £1 an item! also got a moses basket and stand, which is totally not a necessity but at £9.99 for both, and as all the covers are washable and I can get a new mattress, decided it would be daaft not to get it have since looked and stand is a mothercare one which retails at £19.99, basket is beanstalk and retails at £27.99 so even with cost of new mattress is still a bargin .

off to Newmarket this week (another town with a racecourse) to see what I can find!

eca · 18/02/2007 21:23

wow ellie, can't believe mothercare do them that size! i thought it was totally random.

hi sol - poor becky. here's to a dry night tonight!

Charity shops - yes, love them!

Eddas · 18/02/2007 21:28

Ellie, i do go to charity shops now i've got dd, didn't really before and you get some really good bargains. Always buy her books from there as they're so cheap and the ones I get always look new to me.

SOSPL, yes to the incomplete jigsaw thing, daft man!! After my intial I did laugh at him, a lot. He was out drinking last night and can't remember collapsing in dd's bed, yes she was in it but didn't seem to notice he was there!!!Talk about hangover purchase!! Just another in a very very long list of drunk/hungover stories I have on him, ooo maybe I should start a thread on that would be very amusing!

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 18/02/2007 21:30

mothercare do everything eca, they just charge a small fortune for it

OP posts:
Eddas · 18/02/2007 21:31

SOSPL how old is Becky, i haven't tried no nappy with dd yet as she's always wet in the morning. Not sure whether I should try or not(with a lift) but actually can't be bothered which isn't the attitude . I'm sure there's a thread somewhere I can ask on

Eddas · 18/02/2007 21:32

Meant no nappy at night!!! Obviously have during the day or it wouldn't be an issue

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 18/02/2007 21:34

eddas matthew is well past 3 and still has a nappy on at night, as does his cousin who's just turned 4!

OP posts:
Eddas · 18/02/2007 21:42

Ellie, I won't worry about it then, dd is only 2.8yrs so I was just going to see how it goes and leave her to do it in her own time. She'd pretty much done that all the way along and we don't seem to have problems with her too often. Infact she is a star.

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 18/02/2007 21:47

that's the approach i've taken, he was dry during the day just before his 3rd birthday but tho i've tried not giving him any drinks after 6, he still can't stay dry and i'm not gonna rush him for the sake of a packet of nappies a month!

OP posts:
Katy44 · 18/02/2007 21:57

Sorry Ellie - as I've already said fashion is not my strong point! And I struggle to wear stilettos at the best of times, never mind when I've got a huge bump throwing me off balance, assumed everyone was the same!
