i thought it was funny, hope it doesn't offend anyone

runny - i agree with you. we have been supportive to each other for months now and when when we dont post for a while - there has always been the nice feeling that there's others out there on our side.
i havent been on other threads much but i have seen soem things on MN that have shcoked and disappointed me - but never really amongst ourselves. nice bunch that we can be!

also agree with you liath - if we have built up links here and now - we should endeavou to keep a core going after the LOs arrive. i know i'd like to hear how others are doing, whats happening with them and also to ask questions.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww - warm hugs to yu all.

maveta - hope nothing else appears tonight. must tell you at another stage about my wee sis, a long hair and bubble gum!

sopl - hope becky has a dry night and if not - theres plenty more to try it in!
runny - hope we didnt sound too harsh on yr boss. sure he is a very lovely man but we're on your side!!

Emmymummy · 17/02/2007 08:20

Morning - bless you SOSPL for wondering where I've been. Have just been lurking, reading, nodding and laughing along at some of the conversations. I have to say I found the the comments about what to wear for labour most entertaining, as this time 'round I quite honestly will not give a stuff. Will prob be starkers and will not care!

SOSPL - hope Becky managed a dry night btw. It's a bit scarey finally leaving that night-time nappy off, a bit like tight-rope walking without a safety net!

Runny - can totally relate to your feelings about going on maternity leave and leaving behind a job you love, albeit for a few months. I'm also very protective about my job and how it's done, having built up all the processes and contacts myself over the last 1.5 years, and I damn well do not want some useless bint messing things up whilst I'm away.

GMM - had to laugh about your comments about your mum leaving the hoover running to help you sleep. Funnily enough had the same problem with Emily - we discovered that leaving the electric toothbrush / shaver running next to her cot would sent her to sleep. We ended up buying a CD that just played white noise, and that got her down a treat. Think I leant it to someone and never got it back, so am going to have to get another just in case.

Can also totally relate to comments about size of bump. Was in B&Q the other day and the woman on the till asked when I was due. When I said April she said "phew, thank God, thought you were about to have it now". RAAAAAR. Why can people never say that we look just the right size for our dates? We're either too big or too small, or must be having twins or an elephant (that was another comment I've had).

Have also been sleeping really badly. Really sore hips and ribs and just keep tossing and turning right through the early hours of the morning. Tried the hypnobirthing sleep breathing technique last night though, and although I did still keep waking up, I did manage to drop off again each time, so maybe there is something in that. Still haven't listened to the accompanying CD as have been concentrating on reading the book, but must stick the thing on my Ipod so I can listen to that at night too.

CaptainDippy - hope things are picking up for you this weekend and that you're feeling better honey.

Right have rambled on enough. Am keeping up with you all just about, and would love to keep doing so after the babies are born, as like you Liath, this sort of support would have been so welcome last time.

xxxx

emmymummy - good to see you back.

Had a look at stats thread and most people post on here which is good

Glad CD getting better

Have a good day everyone xoxoxoxo

8andahalfweeksandcounting · 17/02/2007 09:13

OMG apparently your hind waters can break then re-seal - will call them afterall! eeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkk!

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 17/02/2007 09:16

Morning luvs, well, I am delighted to report.... A DRY NIGHT!!! Hurrah!
B woke at 10.00 complaining of a sore tummy, then a sore hand and finally a sore ear (did make me laugh tbh!), and I thought, bugger, is this the start of a shitty night. But, we gave her some medised, and then she came in at 7.45, dry and extremely chuffed with herself!

Emmymummy, really pleased to see you back on. Hope you get some sleep, and the aches and pains wear off. It's a joy isn't it!

Hope everyone else had a restful night and have got good weekends planned.

I am lucky in a way that they have decided not to replace me whilst on mat leave. I am going to put together a procedure manual, and other colleagues will do the admin side of things, the line managers will do their own interviewing, and I'll be on the end of the email and phone for the more meaty stuff. They just figured it would take too long for someone to get settled and get to grips with the culture of the place. So, no useless bint replacing me!!

Anyway, time is ticking on so need to get on.

Have a lovely day ladies, and see you later. xx

Emmymummy · 17/02/2007 09:19

SOSPL - hurrah! You need to celebrate with some chocolate methinks (for B of course!).

8 1/2 - what are hind waters and how would they know if they're broken and resealed? Am intrigued!

8andahalfweeksandcounting · 17/02/2007 09:19

Great news sospl!

8andahalfweeksandcounting · 17/02/2007 09:20

Yes - so was I! Thought had wet myslef other noght when bent over bath - so posted a thread - and they say it could be my hind waters breaking and that have resealed - I know nothing either! - you'd think my no.3 you'd know these things! May google hind waters before ring midwife and show myself up!

Emmymummy · 17/02/2007 09:24

Let us know what you find - amazing all this stuff isn't it! Never actually felt / saw my waters go when in labour with Em, so anything to do with waters breaking is a mystery to me!

Katy44 · 17/02/2007 09:34

Morning everyone,
SOSPL - congratulations on the dry night!
maveta - the cat poo story really made me laugh
Everyone who's slightly put out about maternity cover etc - I totally agree. No-one is covering my leave, and my boss keeps making comments like 'in April I'll have two teams to manage' (manager of the other team in his dept left in December) and 'you'll be completely out of the loop by the time you come back'
Basically implying they'll divide the work up between them and I'll be surplus to requirements
I've worked incredibly hard at this job and have only had it for a couple of years, and I also feel like assumptions are being made - I might not come back, or even if I do, I won't pull my weight. Which is a joke as I'm the one who's regularly there at 7pm 2 hours after everyone else left!! And still doing that a couple of weeks ago at 7 months pregnant! Anyway, sorry, rant over.
I'd like to keep posting after the baby's born - I naively imagined we'd all just move on to a post-natal thread, do you think we'll lose people on the way? I'll probably have my baby in May anyway, can I still come and join you lot?

Emmymummy · 17/02/2007 10:01

Katy - I can totally relate to what you're saying as very, very often I'm the last one to leave the office at night, sometimes a good 4 hours after the majority of the others have left! Thank God no-one has implied that I'll be surplus to requirements when I come back, but I know I'm lucky as I have a wonderful boss who really respects me and thinks I do a great job! Also, remembering about coming back from mat leave last time, I think I actually worked harder as I so so so appreciated being at work and the independence it gave me, coupled with the feeling that I could still be a useful functioning adult and not 'just' a mummy (plus I think SAHMs work far harder than ones that go out to work, so work is a walk in the park compared to looking after kids!).

WestCountryLass · 17/02/2007 10:25

Emmymummy

I LOVE you!!!!!

Seriously though, I am not sure one is harder than the other, both have their challenges.

Emmymummy · 17/02/2007 10:51

WCL

That's why I like working part-time - gives a good balance of the two worlds.

muminabigtumi · 17/02/2007 10:56

Morning everyone!
Just done a big catch up as couldn't get online yesterday - I only got in from work at 7pm and by the time I had tea and everything I was exhausted!

All fine this end...not much to report really - James has gone to stay at Grandmas until tomorrow so I have just done quick tidy up and then after this going for a nice long bath I think! Phil and I are going out for meal tonight - YEY! (Hoping for a leg over unles Match of the Day interferes....!)

8weeks - I nearly died thinking your waters had gone when I read the post - hope your ok, surely something else would have happened by now if it was waters? Hurray that you have finished work and when do you get your bump portrait?

SOSPL - Hurray for Dry Night - fantastic - I am just not even going there for awhile yet I don't think. Big hug for B! I will now never be able to touch Gaviscon again by the way - the Minty Sperm comment had me ROFL! Must tell Phil when he comes home! Oh and also re your cat and the flea drops....our Jasp gets a 6 monthly injection which treats him for fleas and worms - think it's about £20 - I think it's worth it as I can't be faffed trying to give him tablets and that Frontline drop stuff gets everywhere!! Just might be worth a mention at the vet?

at Runny and others stories of bump comments...I think if I get another I am seriously just going to tell them to feck off! lol

Bramshott - glad your leg is better hun.
I really enjoyed looking at that website GMM - thanks for the link. I also enjoyed that "miricles in the womb" programme - found it v reassuring when the babies were born early and did well!
WCL - Hoping that baby gets turning soon - I heard lying over a bean bag and hands and knees were encouraging positions...someone even told me to put a bag of frozen peas at top of bump to make them move....

Monitors - hardly ever used ours - our house is that small! It is sitting in box on top of wardrobe - unused really but everyones situation is so different. If anyone wants a Tomy Walkabout they are welcome to it for the cost of postage! email: [email protected]

Smole - Hi - nice to see you on here. Just wanted to say that my friend recently had a baby that had Downs, she is beautiful and seeing how loving they are I think they are really special children. I am so they offered you a late abortion. I hope you are ok.

Weeonion - Your babyshower will be so FAB - just imagining them all clucking round you he he and that guy who is taking over from you on Mat leave sounds like he needs a slap! lol

Hi to everyone else I may have missed...CD - Sending big love to you (not in a Joss Stone way if anyone saw her on The Brits - mad silly cow - when did she develop an american accent???!!)

Finally - Maveta - I actually have a stitch from laughing so much about your cats bottom predicament yesterday...reminded me of little Jack my Mums dog who would have the same and drag his arse along the floor as if he was skiing trying to get rid of it! lol....Jasper brought a mouse in yesterday. I chased him out with it and now at the back door have half a mouse and then the rest of it vomited back up again - truly DISGUSTING! (sorry if anyone is eating) Cats are vile.....but I love them! lol

Right off for my bath - nice to feel caught up!
xxx

P.S - I love this group of ladies too, don't know what I would have done without you all to share this with...group hug
x

muminabigtumi · 17/02/2007 11:03

Emmymummy - completley agree re working part time.
Pre James I had a very demanding job as a manager in an Insurance Company - worked all hours, lots of travel etc and well paid. As we were moving house I left that job when my Mat leave ended and we were lucky that financially we could afford for me to only have to work part time. I now work as a drs receptionist. I would go mad without work...I love my time to be a "person" and not just a "mummy". I find it so rewarding and also feel that I work harder and get more out of it than I ever did in my previous job (although wish the money was like my old job! lol). Since having James I feel so lucky to have a balance of an interesting and rewarding job which will hopefully again be a career when I am ready for that and the kids are older and also time with my children.
I honesty don't think I could be a SAHM and really admire anyone who is - I just think it is so TOUGH to do it 24/7.
x

GirtWaspbElly · 17/02/2007 11:18

Oh Maveta, you made me LOL with the 'grassy arse' saga (appropriate for Spain - no?)

I have to say that the Precious First Born thread was hilarious - THINK I managed to avoid the most glaring ones, but suspect that constantly anggin dh to just switch off the TV And FOCUS on ds in his i0 min of daddy time of an evening may still be bergin gon it...

Good to hear that CD and Ange are feeling better, I agreee with Emmymummy in that I do a lot of lurking too (Let's call it "catching up" instead shall we?)

I've had a different kind of 'worry moment' in that I think I might have had a bit of a show - a 20p size of clear, odourless jelly this week. Nothing more, no noticable leaks etc, and seeing as waters went with an audible crack last time I've nothing to compare it to. Not too worried as no other signs, so will maybe put it down to Valentines Day er...leftovers shall we say

Keep on thinking I must go & buy Arnica & Witch Hazel, but as having hb haven't really got into the 'packing a bag' thing yet. We've still got to move ds in to a big boys bed asap sot hat he's had a bit of time to get used to that prior to new arrival...

DH's parents staying this weekend and whilst they're lovely - they're just not your own poarents are they? Sigh. Not for long, and I'm away on Sunday to watch one of the few remaining rugby matchs on my last forseeable season ticket

Moving to my friends with ds on Sunday night for 3 days whilst bathrooom is Damp-proof coursed & re-plastered as the loo has to be removed! Ds should be in heaven as she has several cats and 2 dogs (typical vet!) so apart from the 10 mins extra drive everywhere should be lovely!

Lots of love to all I've not mentioned - and yes, I think you're all a great supportive bunch so don't disappear (too much) post arrival as we'll probs need each other most then! Might I suggest that anybody finding immediate post-baby life a doddle add a huge dose of "god, I know I'm REALLY LUCKY" to any posting?? Just a thought

weeonion · 17/02/2007 11:55

morning folks - it is such a nice day here! sun is hining and everywhere just looks nicer!

been up since 6am - couldnt sleep and have a presentation to do for this afternoon but somehow have spent most of the morning watching my belly move. i thinki might actually miss that a bit - but i guess i will have something much more interesting to watch!!

girtwaspbelly - what is the precious first born thread?? musy have missed that one!
yr show?? how many weeks ahev you to go??

loved yr comment at the end of yr post about remembering if it is all a doodle - then that is lucky! i think so much pressure is put on women to be all things and perfect. i know my sil is held up to be the perfect woman and mother to 4 boys, labours a breeze, breastfeeding a doodle, lovely house, back to size 6 in a matter of hours it seems. (no-one then mentions that she stopped work at 3mths pg with 1st, had 3 sisters in every day to help, a cleaner 2 days a week, week's meals cooked and delivered by caterer at the weekend and all washing and ironing done. not hard to be perfect with all that help and support!!)

SOPL - good on becky. sure she is as pleased as punch!

MIABT - your posts make me smile sometimes - you sound so cheery!

8.5 weeks- no futher leakage / action. u find out more about hind waters??

CaptainDippy · 17/02/2007 11:57

Good grief!! New thread and about a billion msgs on it ALREADY!! Unfortunately no time to read back through - please, please update me with any major developments etc - How are you all? I have missed you!!

Morning all! Thank you so much for your messages and concern, always means so much to me - Your thoughts and well wishes are appreciated! Absolutely manic in DippyLand - Sooooo much to doooo. Friend who stayed for half-term went home yesterday so finally have time to post - Hurrah! Was lovely to have her around though.....

Feeling a bit better health-wise atm, hoping the iron tabs are kicking in now, haven't had any more sick and dizzy bouts, but am constipated (Sorry - TMI! )

So there you go - it is good to be feeling a wee bit better, was really horrid and scary to be feeling so poorly sick for a while!!

So what is going on for everyone else? DH and are nearly done with SIL's Wedding Invites, which is good cos she is coming this weekend to pick them up!! Eeeeek!!

Have NCT Pancake Party this a/n, so lots still to do for that, so best crack on - Looking forward to posting a bit more regularly now (until something else mental happens anyway .....)

Katy44 · 17/02/2007 12:12

Glad you're feeling better CD xx

maveta · 17/02/2007 12:17

Well I am glad you all got a good laugh out of my traumatic cat moment yesterday. Harrumph I have to say I found it all really funny and ran to the door to tell dh as soon as he came in what he had to do, between gulping laughter and retches. Of course it would not have been even remotely as funny if I had been the one to pull it out. Got to love ´em though, dirty little buggers that they are.

My other one is feeling so sorry for himself, we went to the vet and he´s not got anything IN his eye, just a scratch or something has inflammed it so we´ve got drops but it looks horrendous, all red and weepy and half closed. And he had to have anaesthetic so the vet could look at it so he´s wobbling around the house after me everywhere I go. Making such sad little sounds and, pleasantly, vomiting every once in a while. Lovely.

Otherwise I´ve had a very village-y morning, feeling quite the señora. Went to the butchers to get the meat for tomorrow´s meal - you know I don´t think I´ve EVER been to a butchers for meat before? This feels like a momentous moment in my life. They have hardly anything on display. Want pork chops? Just a minute ma´am and off they go to get half a pig and dissect it right there in front of you. Even all the chickens are whole and they cut them up according to what you want. Can´t get fresher I guess... Also made a visit to my friend´s mum who just gave us a huge haul of tupperware as a belated wedding present, so much tupperware! I´m in heaven. Am going to spend the rest of the day siphoning anything in a packet into the appropriate sized tub.

It´s all thrills and spills here, as you can see, and that´s before I´ve started cleaning the house. I´m a lucky, lucky lady Have a fab weekend folks xxx

CaptainDippy · 17/02/2007 12:35

ooooh, maveta - sounds very, erm, picturesque ....

Enjoy your Saturdays one and all - gotta go and give DD's lunch and run around like a headless chicken for a few hours .....

muminabigtumi · 17/02/2007 15:41

OMG
No one has posted since 12.30 - is that some kind of record????

Just back from the garden centre - lots of plants to pot up now....off to do a bit of a Charlie Dimmock (but I will be wearing a bra - don't want to scare the cat!!!)
x

nuttygirl · 17/02/2007 16:20

CD - glad to hear you're feeling a bit better, hope you get back to full health soon!

SOSPL - glad to hear your DD had a dry night

Well we bought a new shower today cos the other one was leaking, DH assured me he'd be able to fit it . We now have our water turned off, the old one disconnected and the new one NOT fitted...cos the electric wires are too short. Am hoping DH manages to solve this problem or I could be without water for some time .

Also been a bit naughty today, bought a new car...well a new used car!!! It does have 5 doors tho and our current one only has 3 so v useful for when LO arrives. Also it's a fiesta and so I'll be able to drive it WOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Got the first coat of paint on the cupboard too...and not too much on my clothes!

bigandround · 17/02/2007 16:37

Hi all. Hope everyone is well today. Lol at your charlie dimmock comment MIABT! Never mind scaring the cat, I would probably kill him if he got in the way of mine when braless! They are bloody sore lately too.

CD, really good to see you back, hope you are feeling better today.

I have managed to pop my stomach muscle again today when coughing so it bloody hurts like hell again, poo.

Maveta, your cats are lucky to have such caring owners. I have had a grassy arse moment with my dog several times in the past as every now and then he becomes quite partial to little bit of grass eating! Agree it is absolutely gross! The things we do for our pets!

Making chicken tikka masala for tea tonight so must go and marinade my chicken or it will never get done. Hope everyone is well. Will be changing my name back after this post as the new one is confusing me. I keep forgetting I have done it and trying to log in as mammyjo anyway.

Also, agree with wanting to keep posting after baby is born. In honesty, I really struggled first time round and could have done with a support line. That was before I had discovered MN.

mammyjo · 17/02/2007 16:40

There you go. Much better!
