Meet up Thread

twelveyeargap · 12/02/2007 10:17

I'm sitting at home after my midwife visit, trying to find the will to go to work. Would MUCH rather be at home watching telly with a packet of biscuits for company.

Midwife is lovely so am feeling quite excited about the birth now. She's told me which birthing pool she likes - La Bassine/ Made in Water - which is great, because I was keen on that one too.

Ooh, and because I'm changing hospitals, she said they'd usually do another scan, "If I didn't mind." Hehehe. Would love to see her again! (Plus I suppose they can double check the gender.)

Doo be dooo. Right. Will have coffee and a croissant and then force myself out the door.

Frenchsmallfry · 12/02/2007 10:44

Well, Tam, There's always that list of stuff to do, you know the one, I really must sort out that paperwork that I shoved in the drawer before friends arrived 2mths ago. I must sort out the kids clothes, half their wardrobes don't fit anymore. I must start thinking about where the baby stuff is in the loft, search the boxes for the newborn clothes etc....... Oh and the normal, washing, unpacking YUKKKK. I have just booked ds's ski lessons for 4 weeks time so that was one thing off my list and updated to the latest MSN that was another, you see those two I can do still sat down.

I have realised that the main factor to my very sore coxex is this wicker puffe/stool thing I sit on whilst at laptop. I obviously sit here far too long normally as the pain was far more bearable last week whilst I was away.

Right off to clean manky bathroom, that was one job dh didn't manage last week, don't blame him to be honest.

Ho, hum. OK, two croissants then. With jam.

cinnamontam · 12/02/2007 11:04

Yum....croissants. Apricot jam is my fave

scootermum · 12/02/2007 11:41

Morning all,

Havent had time to look at last weeks thread yet so forgive me if ive missed something momentous, will try to have a skim through in a bit..still virus ridden on PC at home and got snowed in on Thurs so havent been on in a bit..

Your midwife sounds lovely tyg-wish mine would come to the house..Seeing mine at 2 tomorrow-probably wont go back to work after!(You've certainly more will power than me, especially in this depressing rain)

Stuck at work till 9.30 tonight as having a social for the relatives and customers to try to get them to get more involved in the service. This was not one of my finest ideas I now realise, as would rather stick pins in my eyes than stay here till then!

FIL has been diagnosed with skin cancer- we found out over the weekend. He is of the generation that wont talk about it though so its hard to get details.Think he is going to the hosp this week to see how far it has spread.I dont know much about skin cancer really..anyone any useful knowledge on it?Everyone very upset anyway..poor dh starts another term at night school tonight as well, which means two nights a week he wont get back till 11pm.I dont think he feels too inspired by the thought at the moment poor love..

on the up side, Mae,(dh coming round to it as a name) has been kicking away all night which has been lovely as she's not much of a wriggler as a rule...

Hope everyone is alright and little beans ok..

SKYTVADDICT · 12/02/2007 12:44

Hi all

Went for a tour of mat unit yesterday so now just have to decide where to give birth. DP now says if the midwife is happy for me to go to midwife led unit and thats what i want then thats ok. Now he isn't being so difficult about going to hospital "where they have everything and consultants in case of problems" I really can't decide. Will need to though as someone will need to expect us!

Lwatkins - sounds very scary - hope you get it sorted.

LG&T - worked out it is a 4 hour tape so still have one show to tape. Yesterdays taped programme had a woman giving birth at home to her 7th and it weighed 11lb 12! Ouch.

cinnamontam · 12/02/2007 13:15

Hi Sky - I watched that one. The baby was an absolute whopper! Keep hoping the head circumference measurement from Bean's 5 month scan keeps going the same way...just below average

ShowOfHands · 12/02/2007 13:52

Guess what?

I'm having a baby. A little, pink, wriggly baby.

Although at 27wks pregnant I am constantly aware of this fact, I am usually in a state of terror/panic about it. Today I am surprisingly excited.

Me. A Mum.

How lovely.

cinnamontam · 12/02/2007 14:06

You are going to be an awesome Mum. I know exactly how you feel

Juicylucytoo · 12/02/2007 14:16

Oh Scootermum that's really about your FIL. Don't know much about it I'm afraid, but hope the prognosis is good, when he finally feels up to telling you anything.

I have had a cold from hell since Thursday. Feel very sorry for myself. Have spent the whole weekend in bed, even though I was supposed to be entertaining my sister and her kids.

Back at work today even though don't feel 100%. I work for a price pr**k is why.

Going to eat a mars bar now to make me feel better.

Hope everyone else is having a good Monday - is there such a thing??

Juicylucytoo · 12/02/2007 14:28

On a good note a friend bought me this lovely babygrow and I got all gooey when I looked at it.

There is something to look forward to afterall

Pinktrappedwindjenny · 12/02/2007 14:34

I went to aqua natal this morning. Can I hear a round of applause please? It was OK, bit dull.

Anyhoo, I'm thinking of a 4d scan as I am so convinced that they have the sex wrong. Is this neurotic?

cinnamontam · 12/02/2007 14:40

Nah - if it's bugging you then get the scan done so you can stop thinking about it Nothing worse than having something bug you - particularly if it's keeping you up at nights.

Scootermum - they make a really big deal about skin cancer in Oz but I don't know much about it. Thinking of your family

Creena · 12/02/2007 14:49

Hullo all! Being a bit naughty and popping in while I should be working. Have got loads to do today, so a quick 5 minute break is probably a good idea before I get well and truly stuck in, right?!

Add me to the stinky cold list - have had it since last week but it seems to be finally shifting now.

Had a nice day yesterday - did a big shop on the internet for baby stuff, so feeling more organised now. Was also careful to reserve a list of items for DH to purchase, so that it doesn't end up being just me buying everything and checking that we've got what we need etc.

Went into town also with DCs & DH - popped into Mothercare and both of the children wanted to pick something out for the baby. DD chose a pack of really cute 'zebra' sleepsuits, while DS chose a pair of soft, slip on pram shoes - they're shaped like a fluffy monster complete with fangs! Also managed to buy some maternity PJs in the sale for just £8. Bargain.

LW - good on you for standing up to intimidation. You live in that flat too and should expect to have your property and goods respected. I hope that your Accommodation Officer can sort you out with a different flat. You can do without the stress at the moment (make sure you point that out to him)!

SOH - you sound a bit like how I felt on Saturday. Bobba was having a really good kicking session and was interacting with me when I stroked or prodded my bump. It was like I suddenly thought "Hey! I'm going to have another LO soon! He or she will be here before I know it and I'll be engrossed in taking good care of him/her!" I think that because I've waited so long to have no.3, part of me still hadn't fully realised that I'm about to achieve what I always wanted. Sorry if that sounds a bit wishy-washy and has anyone reaching for the sick bags!!!

aprilmeadow · 12/02/2007 14:57

Scooter, sorry to hear about FIL. My uncle had a skin cncer on his face a few years back and they were able to remove it and he hasnt had any problems since.

Pink, go with a 4d scan if it puts your mind at rest. I was actually quite pleased of my additional scan last week - even thoughi had had loads of worrying prior to it - as if nothing else it meant that i could double check the sex.

FSF, did you see the pic of J&M that i sent A? Will try and get on msn tonight if you are around.

SOH, you will be great! Just found out that my ds has a 'girlfriend' in his class at nursery called Mathilda and she gets called 'Mathi' sounds like Matti though. Very cute.

Bought my Phil&Ted today . E3 with cocoon, rain sheild and doubles kit in black (not as fun as the green, but might look sad if my buggy matched the colour of my car! Have an apple green fiesta!) all for £370 and free P&P. Will be dispatched today and should have it by Wednesday! How excting All i need now (i think)is the cot bed, getting the M&P Omni cotbed, its the same as the one we have for ds but it matches the baby changer so means we can use that again and the best bit is that my dad is buying it for us. And lastly the reclining glider chair and stool i have seen for £145. Then that will be all the essentials bought and ready. Think i have most of the things i need for the hospital bag, so just need to put that together and then hopefully i can sit back, relax and wait

notsolilKel · 12/02/2007 15:11

April, about your P&T! I was just debating with DH this weekend if we should get ours in Sand (my original thought) or Black. Hmmmmmmmmmm

Anyone after some washable nappies? I'm selling 10 Bamboozles here on Ebay.

Right off again to find yet something else to eat...sigh...

scootermum · 12/02/2007 15:19

OOH, April that was cheap for the pandt!Where from?dh has just about been persuaded now and I want to strike whilst the iron is hot, (and whilst he has his bonus money still and hasnt spent it on dull things like paying the credit card off, blah, blah)

cinnamontam · 12/02/2007 15:32

Nice one April

I'm waiting for Practical Pushchairs to get some more black and charcoal ones in so I can order mine. Comes to £369.99 which includes car seat, Baby Cocoon and free raincover and mud guards.

Have a look here - www.practicalpushchairs.co.uk/pages/phil_and_teds/Phil_&_Teds_E3_V2_Explorer_Pushchair.shtml

Juicylucytoo · 12/02/2007 15:35

Gosh April you're so organised Might buy some babygrows at the weekend to kick start my provisions

ShowOfHands · 12/02/2007 16:24

scooter- so sorry about your FIL. A friend had skin cancer, successfully treated and is right as rain. I'm hoping that the same will be true for your FIL.

Sorry about the gushy outbreak, I'm feeling a wee bit excited about having a little 97% gingerbread baby. Gushiness increasing in direct proportion to increase in movements. Mathilda can do the can can and the macarena simultaneously it would seem.

kel- I'm watching your bamboozles... I'm a bit of a real nappy fan.

48 days left at work, still got 20 days holiday left though. That's quite a cheery thought. 28 days of work-avoidance/MNing left!

Frenchsmallfry · 12/02/2007 16:49

SOH, you do have a pc at home don't you? Who is it that doesn't? Just had an awful thoguht that once maternity leave starts people might dwindle

Scooter, Im sorry to hear about your father in law, I think the success rate is fairly high if caught in time. Fingers crossed for all of your family.

AM I will be around tonight, catch you later hopefully. I did see the pic too, it was very cute. Poor J I think M was squashing his little legs. Very exciting about your P&T.

I am getting very impatient now...................

Can I ask you lovely ladies with older children when you did the change from cot to toddler bed? dd is 18mths and this morning I went into her room to find she had removed her bag and was straddling her cot Glad I went in when I did, would have been a good bump on our wodden floors. Ds was about this age when we put him in his bed but he was much (older) IYKWIM, walked earlier etc........ I would like her in a bed before we need cot for baby so I don't need to buy another but she still seems a bit small

Scooter - I'm so sorry to hear about your FIL. All I can do is echo what others have said - that I've known people with skin cancer and they've been successfully treated. Hope he's ok.

SOH - How lovely. I know how you feel. I have moments like that too. When suddenly you realise "pregancy" means "actual baby". It's funny how it's so abstract sometimes and then it just hits you in the face.

Baby kicked the midwife when she was doing the heartbeat earlier. Even the midwife was charmed. Awh.

Midwife texted this afternoon to say she's booked me for a scan on Friday afternoon. I'm very excited now and it means we can check that the baby really is a pink one.
