Morning all.............

This weeks resolution for me is to get off my bum and organise my life.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
twelveyeargap · 14/02/2007 14:06

Doesn't matter who you are Creena, no woman deserves abuse about her size in pregnancy. You did well.

lillaura - my goodness! What a story. You were very young to take on someone's child. You should be proud of yourself.

twelveyeargap · 14/02/2007 14:09

Writing literally with cats paws?

How does that work?

lillaura · 14/02/2007 14:16

lol - something a friend said to me i press too many buttons at once or the wrong ones im terrible for it - thanks for saying i should be proud means a lot - prooves id do anything for true love ey! i think it would have been harder if dd was older but she was only 3 months ld when she came to live with us so it was new to everyone involved we dont really think about it tho just seems the norm - and altho she only three she knows as much as she can understand - ahe knows that she has another mummy and that she wasnt in my tummy like her bro or sis - i told her that her other mummy wasnt very well so couldnt look after her so now she lives with us - thought it was best than just springing it on her one day

twelveyeargap · 14/02/2007 14:34

Very wise IMO. My DD's dad didn't know until he was almost an adult, that his eldest two sisters were actually the children of his dad and his mother's sister, who died when the kids were young. And that his "aunt", was actually another half sister, who had lived with his gran after their mum died.

Odd, odd, odd situation to be faced with in your late teens.

It sounds like you have a lovely relationship and I can see how it's much better to have brought her up from babyhood. It must make you all closer.

notsolilKel · 14/02/2007 14:37

SOH, SOH, where are you????

I've been tankini hunting on your behalf. I think Blooming Marvelous has the widest assortment of tankinis. Over at Figleaves they've got a cute little miniskirt and a nice black sarong, either of which could be added to any suit to enhance coverage!

Happy swimming

lillaura · 14/02/2007 14:38

omg - i couldnt imagine putting her in that position. we are very close she's my lil friend hehe we have great fun.

ShowOfHands · 14/02/2007 14:44

lilKel, you're a superstar. Off to check out Blooming Marvellous/Figleaves...er...sorry, meant do some meaningful work and not play on the Internet all day.

Happy Valentines all. Don't really bother with it chez SOH. Usually make a card but I'm busy making a baby in my uterus so that's enough effort for this year. Gone are the days when we used to whizz off to Paris for the weekend. Now I only whizz as far as the sofa and start drooling attractively. DH is romantic every day of the year. I almost always get breakfast in bed, he does all of the washing up and laundry and most of the cooking. Plus, he brings me gingerbread. Wouldn't swap it for a small effort once a year. Although it's our wedding anniversary on the day my mat leave starts and I want a fuss making this year! Think we'll be in Scotland having a quick break just the two of us while we still can. We went there on honeymoon too so it'll be very lovely I'm sure.

lillaura · 14/02/2007 14:51

lucky u SOH!!!!!!!!! where did you find him?? lol

notsolilKel · 14/02/2007 14:59

my pleasure SOH. I do far too much shopping for myself so I'm doing myself a favour by directing my energies in other ways

I've schooled DH in the need to give cards at every holiday (lingering American trait in me ) so he's dutifully bestowed me with a set of gorgeous roses today, even managed to look like he was happy to be doing it . Strangely he though also claims he left his card at work. Hmmmmmm. Considering we met at work (a very dull financial institution) it's a miracle we can be romantic at all!!

And sure today is just a cheap ploy to take all your money via WHSmith or Clinton's but really, is it so bad to make time to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you? It's not like we're celebrating guns or drugs or something...

(sorry, defense of stupid commercialised holidays hereby over)

AbbyLou · 14/02/2007 15:23

Hi all, well dh turned up at lunchtime with roses so I'm well pleased - I'd already had chocs and a card.
Just back from mw, few things to report. She said I had ketones in my urine. She tried to explain it but I didn't really get it, does anyone know what they are? She didn't seem bothered by it at all though. She also says I am measuring quite big - 29 weeks instead of 27 but again she says it's not enough to be concerned and will probably even out. The most exciting thng she said was she is convinced I am having a girl. I got very excited for a short while but am not letting myself get carried away - after gender prediction based on heartbeat alone is not exactly reliable. I just allowed myself to imagine a little girl for a brief moment.....

AbbyLou · 14/02/2007 15:35

Also I forgpt - baby is breech at the moment so I hope it turns round soon. I know there's a long way to go yet but the thought of a c section fills me with dread.

notsolilKel · 14/02/2007 15:38

Oh Befnal, definitely raw fruit (berries or some such, frozen if you can't get fresh) with either cream, ice cream, or choc sauce (or all 3 !) for pudding. Romantic and good for you, so you can be sinful afterwards if you want

TYG congrats on your growing skills btw. Most impressive resurrection of good-as-dead plant. DH is the one with the 'green thumb' in my family. My presence used to have a deadly affect on anything - plant, animal, even fruits would go bad before they were meant to. Not any more. In fact we've a lily that outgrew the largest pot we could find. It's MASSIVE...

BefnalBub · 14/02/2007 15:45

thanks lilkel, think you are right! spent ages in tesco trying to decide, bought myself some of the tesco finest triple choc squares to nibble on for inspiration....and came back without anything but them . will go out on another foray.

Juicylucytoo · 14/02/2007 15:47

Or Goo hot chocolate puddings with vanilla ice cream...yum

ShowOfHands · 14/02/2007 15:48

Oh God lilkel nothing against Valentines- the more people demonstrate their love the better. [ageinghippy] Just a lot of threads on MN at the moment saying 'my bloody DH got me nothing again' (take issue with that gramatically though). Was explaining that I don't mind DH not buying me anything. He took me out for lunch today, but he does that every Wednesday and he gave me half of his creme brulee. I think that's romantic! And I was defending how romantic he is every day, hence the not bothering with Valentines. Didn't want to say 'DH didn't get me anything' and have people think that I'm complaining.

BefnalBub · 14/02/2007 15:49

good point. problem with the goo things is you need an oven, mine isn't due to go into new kitchen til next week . i've got loads of those little glass pots too as i can't bring myself to throw them away but they are annoying as they don't stack !!!! yummy tho

cinnamontam · 14/02/2007 15:51

Hey Abbylou - not sure what the ketones thing is but had a quick look on the net. Found this

You may have ketones in your urine if you:

  • Have poorly controlled diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Are on a very low carbohydrate diet.
  • Are starving or have an eating disorder, including disorders that result in poor nutrition such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia, alcoholism, or poisoning from drinking rubbing alcohol (isopropanol).
  • Have not eaten (fasted) for 18 hours or longer.
  • Are pregnant. However, a moderate amount of ketones in a pregnant woman may harm the fetus and may be an indication of gestational diabetes.

If your MW isn't concerned then it must be a very low amount so I wouldn't worry. My Bean was breech at my last scan but I know she has definitely moved since then so sure yours will do the same

twelveyeargap · 14/02/2007 15:53

I know where you're coming from SOH. DH and I had a chat about it last night. We're both of the opinion that when you're in the first flush of love/ lust that it's more important to get the "big gesture", but when you're more settled, there isn't the need.

That's just us though - I'm not writing it off for anyone else.

DH was chuffed with his little cards and I was delighted that he took a couple of hours of work and come to see me. He doesn't usually manage to get away for lunch and if he does, he usually asks me to go to him so he's not away from his desk for too long.

Things like that mean something to me.

Frenchsmallfry · 14/02/2007 15:58

Hi Abylou, I think,...........keytones in your urine can be an indication of gestational diabeties, that can cause big baby's if not controlled. It normally rears it's head between the 24-28 week of pregnancy. However if your midwife was not concered about it then don't worry. She would definately have reffered you for a gloucose test if she had ANY doubt that this was the case. It can be monitored for a while with no problems.

has anyone else had to have blood tests for OC should i be worried ???

Frenchsmallfry · 14/02/2007 16:28

I agree TYG it is the little things that make a difference. Something they've thought about. Dh will actually of had to think where I would have hidden the dreadful card I made last year. lol, I'm not complaining SOH, honest. He did take the afternoon off and we were going to go shopping and have a Mac'd's for tea, but it has lashed it down all afternoon and is blowing a gale so we have decided to stay in. I'm already in my pj's

Befnalbub - ah forgot about the oven aspect!

Was everyone else sent for new bloods at their last mw visit?

lillaura · 14/02/2007 16:38

i was sent for bloods cuz i have itching skin allover testing for OC (some liver condition but the tested for loads of others too so maybe they were new ones too

cinnamontam · 14/02/2007 16:39

I'm booked in next Wed for glucose test.

BefnalBub · 14/02/2007 17:04

i had to do bloods after last m/w appt too - they took 3 samples - one for iron, not sure what the other two were. actually it was quite scary. midwife was on the phone to the test centre to find out what my serum result was. I looked at the mw's pc and it said in red - results anomaly, please call test centre for details. i was freaking out big time. of course this was all at the same time as the mw was taking my blood pressure. turns out the warning was actually to do with a urine sample from november . so came away with a high blood pressure reading and mw thinking i was a stressed out mummy! grrr. at least serum result was good 1:9900. nice of them to tell me two months after the test tho.

think we have to do bloods again at 28wks
