I was just looking at dylon dyes on amazon but the colours are a bit crappy. I'll have to google the nearest hobby craft/similar shop.

I wasn't going to bother with a changing bag, but then I remembered they've got loads of handy pockets so you don't have to rummage around looking for what you need.

Azure83 · 04/09/2016 22:24

Just back from our driving holiday in France, we did over 1300 miles! It definitely feels like this was the final bit of a busy summer and now I'm ready for the third trimester and some proper nesting, hypnobirthing classes, NCT and just generally preparing and slowing down..

Not looking forward to the central London commute tomorrow morning though.. I've also been thinking I've been too optimistic about my mat leave, was planning for it to start on due date with a week of annual leave before. I now think I'll bring it forward a bit.

nightcap · 05/09/2016 04:40

Aaarrggghh 4.30am again! Hoping everyone else is sleeping soundly...

nightcap · 05/09/2016 04:41

bonkers those vests look great by the way! Tempted to have a go myself.

BowSurprise · 05/09/2016 05:42

Why have I been wide awake since 4am!?! Know I'm going to be super tired as soon as I get to work. Hope you've got back to sleep nightcap.

BowSurprise · 05/09/2016 05:43

Also feel the first trimester nausea is coming back.

SolomanDaisy · 05/09/2016 06:48

So I ordered a Chicco Next 2 Me this weekend and now people on a Dutch forum have told me it's too dangerous and I should only get the Bednest! Has anyone heard this? I can't find anything about any incidents with the Next 2 Me, but a baby died last year in the Bednest. Has anyone used either of them?

Nojo82 · 05/09/2016 07:27

I had a great sleep last night. First in a long time. But I was shattered, my oldest son had a sleep over sat night and I barely slept then yday I was at a christening all day so I was more than ready for my bed. Actually didn't wake before alarm went off.. result..

StubbleTurnips · 05/09/2016 07:37

Sol i have heard about the Chicco being dangerous, what's the rationale? The only horror story I've heard is about the bed next, and wasn't that to do with it being in put on a incline higher than warned?

SolomanDaisy · 05/09/2016 08:31

I think it's because it doesn't have the side drop bit the bed nest has, which covers any gap between the cot and the bed. But I haven't heard about there being a problematic gap. I'd also think that would only be an issue after the child was rolling, at which stage you put the side up? The only reason I am particularly concerned is this is the first time I have ever heard Dutch people express more safety concern than English people! They don't do the baby always sleeping in the same room until 6 months thing, most people think leaving the baby monitor with your next door neighbour is an acceptable form of baby sitting (or just using an app if you're only popping out on the school run) and crying it out at a young age is far more widespread!

duxb · 05/09/2016 08:46

Morning all, sorry some of you appear to be suffering with the pre 3rd trimester sickness return.

I'm off work today after spending yesterday evening and into the night in the bathroom with what I hope is just a stomach bug. Rather unpleasant and poor bambino was wriggling away after I was being sick.

Just doing all I can to keep hydrated, monitor my temperature etc and taking my first sick day all year (I'm generally a real worker and would drag myself to work with one leg hanging off but mothers instinct kicked in and I'm not dragging myself anywhere today. Need to make sure both my and baby are okay). Will try and eat something bland later today and see if I can keep it down.

Does anyone have any experience of whether it will effect the baby at all? First timer here so pretty nervous (probably without any need!)

Bigfam · 05/09/2016 09:01

Oh no duxb that sounds so miserable. I had a sickness bug a few weeks ago and I didn't eat for over 24hrs. I was sick so many times I lost count & was also worried about dehydration but was fine. Just get some rest and keep on top of fluids, hope you feel better soon. Your baby will be fine so try not to worry x

Popskipiekin · 05/09/2016 09:47

Hello all, just dropping in. I had a midwife appointment at the weekend - my last at UCH as I'm transferring to Kings with the move - and I was one day too early for the glucose challenge so they wouldn't do it Sad, and they also asked why I'd come for an appointment at 26 weeks when it was my second pregnancy and I shouldn't have come until 28 weeks? um, I don't know, you booked it, I turned up! Hey ho. But all good with the baby as far as she could tell, bp ok, tummy measuring spot on for dates (always makes me laugh that - I mean seriously, considering all the shapes and sizes we are before we start pregnancy, does 26cm belly seriously equal 26 weeks? on everyone?).

Tmi but my post-partum-piles have returned this pregnancy Blush. So so uncomfortable. And nasty. Why do bodies do these things?

Sorry for all those suffering sickness, AGAIN. Poor you. Not fair is it.

Babydreaming · 05/09/2016 11:23

Has anyone heard of these?

www.amazon.co.uk/PurFlo-SleepSac-Sleeves-Light-Blue/dp/B0039A8X1G/ref=pd_sim_sbs_75_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=911JP3WGFTYZXRD80VM7

They are way cheaper than normal bro-bags but there aren't any reviews on amazon so I'm not sure if they are any good or not?

Babydreaming · 05/09/2016 11:36

Also, what baby carriers/slings are you buying? Im really clueless as to which ones are the best products!

Bigfam · 05/09/2016 12:34

Oh wow they're cheap Babydreaming
I bought the bed nest made by purflo and that's good quality so they might be worth a try. I might order some of those.

I bought a funki flamingo carrier/wrap from amazon. They've got amazing reviews Smile

SolomanDaisy · 05/09/2016 12:49

Pops, we don't get measured here, the midwife just has a really good feel around your stomach, shows you where the baby is and tells you if it seems about right!

Babydreaming, they look fine to me. We had a few different brands last time and they all have different style fastenings. We developed a strong preference for the Grobag brand, but I think you wouldn't know until you tried different ones.

I've actually got three slings now! I thought I didn't know where the two I had last time were, so got an Ergo from a friend. But now I've found the others! One is a beco Gemini, which I used loads. It's very comfortable, and I could breastfeed without taking it off. The other is a Baby Bjorn, which I didn't like but DH loved.

I've just packed a hospital bag! Am I the first?! I left it loads later than this last time, but I just have a feeling I might need it early. Partly because the baby is growing slowly and I think might turn out to have IUGR. But partly because I've had two friends with the same due date as me and neither had December babies! One was November and the other was October, which is next month!!

Bigfam · 05/09/2016 12:55

SolomanDaisy have they told you why they don't measure? Just curious, my measurements have never matched up.
Really horrible crampy/aching back today, I've just had to take paracetamol Sad bloody hell

Popskipiekin · 05/09/2016 12:55

SolomonDaisy October???? wowowow. No wonder you're packing early :) I was rubbish last time and wasn't even properly ready - I did have most things, just not packed - when waters broke at 37+6. Fortunately I had 24 hours before things kicked off so I trotted off to buy some breastfeeding bras and got my bag ready that night. Suppose I will try to sort by 35 weeks this time, just in case.

Bigfam · 05/09/2016 12:59

I wasn't ready for my first who arrived at 37+3 but was really impatient with the 4th, who waited til 39+3. Those extra 2 weeks were torture! Wonder what will happen this time...
I know a couple of people who's waters have gone but their baby's are staying put. And one person who's had her baby (due in december)

SolomanDaisy · 05/09/2016 13:03

To be fair the due date is 2nd December and her baby was born 31st October, so only about a month early. But 'next month' just sounds scary!

I haven't asked why they don't measure, *bigfam', it seems like they're doing something similar but doing it with serious prodding instead of a tape measure. The midwife basically cups her arms around the edges of the baby and says, there it is!

SouthDownsSunshine · 05/09/2016 13:28

bonkers if you add lots of salt when dying, it stops the colour bleeding afterwards. I find the machine one much easier.

minispringroll I use a rucksack instead of a change bag. Much easier, especially if you're slinging. I have a mini skip hop changing mat that I just throw in. Skip Hop Pronto Mini Changer Chevron www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00B7XUVOE/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_rowZxbMMMWV6K

When they measured my bump with dd they were usually very firm in finding the top and bottom. I guess the uterus is a consistent size when we're lying down, if they squidge extra cushioning away :)

Solomon impressively early packing of hospital bag! I'm waiting another few weeks... (see me in 11 weeks running around in a panic with no bag packed!)

babydreaming I love a stretchy wrap at the start, we had a hana one last time that we'll reuse. When they get head control, I like a structured carrier. Your best bet is to find a local sling library and try out what works for you. Best not to go for leg danglers like babybjorn as they're not comfy for baby or you, and they're bad for baby's hips.

cnchapmanxx · 05/09/2016 13:36

Speaking of hospital bags, WTAF do i pack? I have no idea.. planning to BF just dont know what i need, i havent even got a bag to take. I know im stil 15 weeks away from bearing down and giving birth but these 25 weeks have just flown!

south, I think we have the same due date! Have you given birth in hospital before? I haven't, so that's probably making me a bit more nervous about being ready!

cn, the only bf relating things I've packed are some breast pads and a couple of feeding bras.

Oh my other excuse for early bag
packing is I've been told I have to go to hospital as soon as contractions start so I won't have any time to sort things out!
