Some very cute neat looking bumps. Mine i feel is quiet small. I'm currently 29+3

Had my whooping cough, flu and Anti D jabs today I'm feeling sorry for myself.
Had a cheeky Chinese last night followed by meringue and strawberries. Stuffed myself last night that I have hardly eaten today.

For anyone breastfeeding would you recommend nipple shields?

SouthDownsSunshine · 30/09/2016 16:05

bigfam your bump looks similar to mine at 31 weeks. I think I look obviously pregnant but apparently not! I'm tall and broad so I think I just carry small. Dd was 6lb7oz, so small but not tiny. At the 28 week growth scan everything was measuring spot on. Because baby has downs syndrome I was expecting it to be a bit smaller but apparently not!

I've been signed off work this week, so other than doing some handover work next week, I'm finished. I'm exhausted so really relieved to finish. I had a 2 hour sleep this morning, and I've come for a lie down again as I was dizzy with tiredness. DH thinks I'm taking the piss - I don't know how to explain the sheer exhaustion to him!

Anyone else getting a return of sickness? Mine has steadily crept back, first with restricted tastes and now with nausea. Oh joy.

OrianaBanana · 30/09/2016 16:22

love I was told not to use nipple shields as they made bfing more difficult. I did buy some when my nipples were badly damaged but I couldn't bring myself to try them (bfing counsellor maintained they'd spell the beginning of the end for bfing) so I still have them somewhere.

Bigfam · 30/09/2016 16:25

I'm not feeling sick, but the exhaustion has definitely kicked in again. I can sleep from about 9.30pm (but that does include regular toilet trips) til 6am and still be knackered before lunch.
Sorry to hear so many are suffering with spd, it sounds horrible Sad

Has anyone thought about if baby is breech & doesn't turn, if you'll have a ECV? I knew babies could be manually turned but after reading up on it and the (very small) risk it carries for the baby, I'd actually opt for a c-section. I've never had a breech baby though so don't know why I'm thinking about it, I suppose as the birth gets closer you just think about these things..

OrianaBanana · 30/09/2016 16:32

SouthDowns I'm definitely getting more queasy again - no full-blown nausea but it seems to be lurking. I've always been quite a 'sicky' person though - got bad morning sickness the first time and this time, get travel sick easily, used to feel sick and dizzy at certain points of my cycle, etc etc...

Nojo82 · 30/09/2016 16:39

No nausea but exhaustion is killing me. Really thought with being off work it would improve but no its just as bad. God i dint know how i was gona cope with work. Was supposed to be working another 6 weeks.

SolomanDaisy · 30/09/2016 16:46

Thanks for the scan comments everyone. babydreaming, sorry your scan was a mixed bag of news, I hope it all clears up by the time the baby is born.

Bigfam two of my friends have had breech babies and after having the risks explained went straight for a c section, without trying to turn the baby. One was lying straight across her stomach though, I don't know if that makes a difference.

love, I was given nipple shields to try in hospital when DH was having trouble readjusting after being tube fed for a few days. They didn't help.

southdowns glad to hear you've been signed off, that commute sounds awful. I had a 1.5 hour nap this morning, naps are great! I'm self employed and think I'm only going to do small pieces of work from now on. I am so much more tired than with my first!

Lovewatchingrainfall · 30/09/2016 17:23

Sorry forgot to add my bump picture before.

Thank you for your advice about shields I won't buy any.

Solomon they had to turn my daughter however after turning her twice and it not working I wouldn't let them do it again. It was painful.

Yes to the nausea every evening, I drives me insane.

Love I used shields with dd. I wouldn't have managed to bf without them as my nipples were flat (not anymore!) and she had a terrible latch. We were given some in hospital to try after my nipples were wrecked less than 24 hours in. I used them for about 3 months I think. I have bought some more incase I need them, I'd rather try with them than move straight to bottles.

Sorry to hear in not the only one with nausea again :(

Lovewatchingrainfall · 30/09/2016 17:50

Thank you for that sunny I don't have flat nipples however I have very sensitive and tender nipples and I don't want to be in pain so wondered if shields would work any better I would rather no just have bottle feed due to the pain. Maybe I should just see how I feel.

How is every doing getting organised for Christmas? I am trying to be organised with presents and bits. I have nearly all my daughters

DartmoorDoughnut · 30/09/2016 17:56

Breast feeding hurts when starting out just FYI! It's fucking toe curling, tear inducing, swearing agony tbh and it's a bit of a shock after all the "if you're doing it right it won't hurt" lines BUT after the first week or two it's totally pain free - unless there's an under lying issue eg tongue tie. Kellymom is a great resource as is LLL.

Don't want to scare anyone btw I bf'd happilly until July but I was totally taken by surprise when I first started!

Babydreaming · 30/09/2016 18:58

My nausea has returned too! Not as bad as in 1st trimester. It's mainly before breakfast and lunch so I think it comes on when I'm hungry!

StubbleTurnips · 30/09/2016 19:07

Second what Dart said about breastfeeding, I also found it thoroughly exhausting emotionally and physically - due to restricted supply following a double breast reduction 8years earlier.

Got DD to 2.5 still feeding though before I'd had enough, and I was the one in NCT classes saying you can't feed a child with teeth Blush

OrianaBanana · 30/09/2016 19:16

I agree on the bf hurting bit - I hadn't expected that. In my case DS had tongue tie which was eventually sorted with a quick snip and eventually it became painless. But I went on to bf for 18 months with help so do look up helplines/clinics in your area and have the info to hand.

Lovewatchingrainfall · 30/09/2016 19:20

Thank you all for your realistic views on BF I expressed for 6months with my daughter and not only found this painful and totally time consuming, I think I had in my head that actual Bf would be easier. Might have to see how I get on and if not go for bottles.

SouthDownsSunshine · 30/09/2016 19:36

Sorry, was me as sunny up thread! I nc for an AIBU!

BF hurts at the start but it's so much easier than bottles, and more convenient. The nipple shields made a significant impact on my ability to breastfeed, so I would wholeheartedly recommend them. I had no problems with supply, and dd would also happily take a bottle of my expressed milk.

It's well worth having the number of a local bf counsellor on speed dial. My local one was amazing, and would drop everything to come around and help.

This time I'll do as much bf as I can. We don't know what baby's feeding needs will be until she arrives.

The one struggle I had with bf last time was the mental impact. I felt tied to dd, and the exhaustion didn't help my pnd. We couldn't give formula as she was allergic, but with some expressing dh was able to give me a break.

That's a bit of an essay!

SolomanDaisy · 30/09/2016 20:05

BF never hurt for me, but it was a real hassle for the first few weeks. I had no idea about all the different things that can cause problems. It was a real struggle to get it established. I remember watching a woman prepare a bottle for her baby as I breastfed DS and thinking, 'oh, finally we're at the stage where breastfeeding is less hassle'. I think he was about two months old!

StubbleTurnips · 30/09/2016 20:30

Finally stopped arsing around re: which cosleeper and ordered a babybay from germany - 112E so under a hundred quid for a maxi which should last 9-12months.

Mozfan1 · 30/09/2016 20:33

I recieved this today

Where did my bloody go?! 😂

Mozfan1 · 30/09/2016 20:33

Sorry blood not bloody 😳

sueevone · 30/09/2016 21:03

mozfan ooh that's a bit worrying, and super inconvenient for you. I'd expect more on an explanation/apology.

sueevone · 30/09/2016 21:06

Also I finally put some effort into sorting out my hospital bag, for anyone looking for breastfeeding friendly night shirts I found these in Primark. They were £4.00 each and super soft, long enough too to cover up as they reach my knees and I'm 5'2.

Mozfan1 · 30/09/2016 21:11

They look great sue!

Trip to primark it is then

I know I'm a bit weirded out by it to be honest Confused

sueevone · 30/09/2016 21:26

Let us know what they say when you go back in.
I ended up picking up some comfy memory foam slippers for £2.50 for the hospital and a pack of 5 granny pants for £4.00, they had a Nivea holiday mini wash bundle with deodorant, moisturiser, lip balm and hand cream and body lotion for £5.00 as well as the comfiest snuggliest hoodie which I'll keep fit when I'm at my biggest. So please with my purchases.

firawla · 30/09/2016 21:53

Bf was so painful with my 1st!! I never really managed to get to grips with it with him though. I don't remember it hurting at all with my others, but since there's been a bit of a bigger gap this time I'll definitely get the lansinoh cream and be prepared for it to hurt just in case!

The thing that hurt most last time was the after pains with the uterus going back down - I even went back into the hospital to get checked as it was so painful! Apparently it just gets worse the more babies you've had Confused so not looking forward to that again!!

With a breach baby I'm not sure what I'd do. At the moment I think midwife said transverse but there's so much time still to get in the right position that it doesn't matter yet. A couple of my others were back to back - that was quite painful the first time around!
