  • responsible not reasonable!
Bigfam · 14/09/2016 18:27

I'm quite sure that the survival rate at 28 weeks is excellent. Around 75% I think, also every day extra day increases that rate by around 2-3%

StubbleTurnips · 14/09/2016 19:40

A lady in our NCT group last time never made the class as she ended up having her baby at 27w, he's now a fab little 3 year old. A very Dfriend had her daughter at 31w and she's now a strapping 10years old.

Preemies (and the hospital teams behind them / mums) are amazing.

Thisisbonkers · 14/09/2016 19:59

kitkat I've just been prescribed iron tablets too, I'm hoping to feel a bit brighter soon.

Gosh, it must be terrifying having a baby so early!

veryfriendlylion · 14/09/2016 21:54

Had 25 week appointment yesterday, all looking normal/healthy. I get a new burst of excitement after midwife appointments which is always a positive as I've been feeling very moany recently!

Baby's HR was 150bpm, and midwife said 'ooh a very girly heart rate!'.. Mr Lion looked like he was going to faint as he's convinced he's having boys (he thinks we're going to eventually have 4 boys...Hmm)

So...is heart rate any indicator of gender or is this an old wives' tale?!

becciandbump · 14/09/2016 22:56

nojo hope you are feeling better soon.

southdowns hope you are ok Brixton hicks sound awful I had some stomach pain last week but it went on too long from what I've read for it to be braxton hicks I think. I got checked and they didn't know what it was Maybe baby lying funny under my hernia.

Got disappointed at another mumsnet thread about the perfect prep machine Id thought it was my best buy but now I'm worried with the safety concerns that people are talking about and that midwives don't recommend them. I plan to ask mine on Tuesday. Is there anyone out there that still plans to use one im not sure what to do now!

Thisisbonkers · 14/09/2016 23:34

veryfriendly apparently a fast heartbeat is meant to mean a boy, slower for a girl ( sounds like a train or galloping horse). My midwife says you can kinda manipulate it although she reckons boy according to what she heard!

Bit of an old wives tale Smile

weechops · 15/09/2016 06:19

Morning all. I've been having a bit of a rough time the last few weeks with various things at home, so haven't been on much. But thankfully today is the day my dh gets home after 14 loooooonnnnngggg weeks away at work! So I'm looking forward to getting a bit of a rest now. Will try to catch up on everyone's news properly then Smile

DartmoorDoughnut · 15/09/2016 07:20

GTT today, I'm SO hungry! I get hangry too ... could be a stressful morning!

stripeyorangesocks71 · 15/09/2016 08:36

Hope the GTT goes ok Dartmoor and doesn't drag!

Sorry that posted twice Blush it told me it failed the first time! Oops

ElodieS · 15/09/2016 08:40

Morning all! Can I have a bit of a whinge? Just having a rubbish 24 hours and could do with letting of some steam.

Is anyone else just not really feeling that 'connected' to this pregnancy? I'm totally disorganised, love feeling kicks but we haven't got everything we need, our house is a state, we haven't sorted out a name yet. In my previous pregnancy I spent the whole thing obsessing about every twinge, constantly imagining what they'd be like and kind of visualising our lives after they arrived, they had names from about 18 weeks I think.

I think it's partly that life is just really busy at the moment, DTs have just started school and one of them is now back in hospital again with the other looking like she might go soon too, I'm supposed to be going to NYC on Sunday night for work and and and... ARGH!

I feel really guilty about this little baby who is already playing second fiddle to everything else going on, please tell me I'm not alone?

Ugh, sorry for the double post!

Lovewatchingrainfall · 15/09/2016 08:42

Becci I know loads of people who swear by the perfect prep. My SIL for one and she is very over protective with her first born. I asked my midwife and she said what ever makes your life easier. I think like all things you hear good and ad you just need to make up your own mind.
I was told off on a thread because I will be putting baby straight into a cot and not a Moses basket.
Only you know what's right.

Good luck with the GTT I had mine yesterday and hated it, I spent the rest of the day feeling sick.

Nojo hope you manage to make it home today.

KitKat1985 · 15/09/2016 08:49

Oh Elodie I feel exactly the same. First pregnancy I spent hours reading baby books, and wandering around Mothercare, and planning and organising things for the baby. Second time around I've barely organised anything yet and I'm hurtling towards 30 weeks. I just feel that amongst having a full-time job, and a toddler etc I've not had time to do anything; and if I have had 5 minutes I just want to sit on the sofa and chill for a bit. Poor neglected second baby has basically got hardly anything new either, and will just be living in mainly second hand clothes and using second hand toys. DH is also notably less excited this time around than first time. I just feel a bit sorry for the poor baby!

DartmoorDoughnut · 15/09/2016 09:10

Thanks stripey I'm already bored Grin

Elodie I could've written that, I don't even know how many weeks I am! Blush

StubbleTurnips · 15/09/2016 09:14

Elodie you are not alone. DH and I keep thinking to order the cosleeper, we put it off every night. we need to do the spare room for DD so turnip2 can have the nursery, it's currently full of crap and needs plastering.

I have ordered a shit load of clothes from the frugi sale though so felt a tiny bit prepared yesterday. I did sort through DDs clothes though for things for Turnip2, the rest I gave offloaded onto a friend!

StubbleTurnips · 15/09/2016 09:15

Dartmoor someone asked me how many weeks, had to look at the app on my phone! The only countdown I know is work days left Grin

Bigfam · 15/09/2016 10:08

How is dt doing today elodie, is she back at school?
becciandbump I'm definitely going to be using my perfect prep machine, everyone I have spoken to also swears by them, but will let my mw know monday we plan on using one.
I thought thw old wives tale was that girls had faster hb's?! Didn't apply to mine either way as in my last pregnancy dd3's hb was really fast, this time around baby (girl) has a slower hb.
No-one's that interested in this baby either, being the 5th (and 4th girl) I'm sure if she was a he, it would be a bit more exciting for everyone. I love babies though so I'm always excited Grin

Londonmamabychance · 15/09/2016 10:17

Bigfam on you thoughts about names, just go with what you love and don't worry about what others think! there will always be someone who dislikes the name you choose and someone who loves it. The child will always be fine with it no matter what. And on no accounts should you worry about people's prejudices about travllers! that's your little girl's roots and she should be proud of them (although I do undertsand your concerns, but personally I think that it's good for kids to be proud of and aware of their roots, it gives them a strong sense of identity) That said, if you're asking for opinions, I like Romany, then she can always shorten it to Romy herself : )

Peanutbutter I felt sooo scared before having DD! I panicked and thought I wouldn't know how to look after a newborn. But don't worry, once the baby is there, you will quickly get the hang of things, it will come to you naturally. Also, try to have support around you, family and friends around int he early days can be a big reassurance. Thta said, I am slightly starting to panick now second time around, worried about what it's going to be like to have two kids!! it's a big unknown.

Elodie I feel exactely the same, and I only have one child already! (DD is 2 next month). I have NOTHING at all prepared, not a shread of clothes, (this is a boy so can't reuse much) no bed, no double buggy, haven't dug out the baby toys, haven't planned exactely when my mum should come to be here for the birth to look after DD, no name decided...I just tell myself there's still three months to go, and I wil sort everything out once I'm off work a month before DD. he better not be early! But also kind of think like, what's the worst that could happen, if the baby was suddenly born tomorrow, well, so what, I'd quickly send DD shopping to get a few clothes, we have an old Moses basket lying around, and what else does the baby really need? Thankfully our boobs prepare themselves : ) I also feel that this baby wil be lucky in many ways because he will have a sibling immediately, and there's nothing kids like more than older kids! he will always be entertained, and will come into a family where the parents are more experienced and a lot calmer. The first time around we needed to do so much planning because we were newbies, and the first baby had to put up with all our newbiw mistakes ; )

Londonmamabychance · 15/09/2016 10:19

*DH and not DD shopping, of course!

peanutbutter2409 · 15/09/2016 10:45

Thanks londonmamabychance as long as it's normal!

ElodieS · 15/09/2016 13:37

So glad it isn't just me, thanks all for your kind replies. I've decided to take the rest of this week off work before going to New York to try to get a bit organised and get my head in gear before it all kicks off.

I took DD in to the clinic this morning Bigfam, I think we just need to get her meds adjusted and up the physio regime for now, she doesn't need to be admitted thankfully so she'll be back at school tomorrow.
