Seriously, though, the postnatal care here can be quite poor. St Thomas' want my baby to be checked over and weighed weekly, ideally this would be at my home. But our local health visitors don't have time for this so I'll have to take my daughter to the clinics, which are rushed and germ filled. I'm really hoping my hv friend will help me out when she can.

It's such a shame the NHS is being run down so much :(

Bigfam · 14/09/2016 10:16

KitKat1985 I thought that with my last pregnancy dd1 was born at 37+3 so I was ready and waiting for all the others around that time. Dd3 hung on a full two weeks longer and arrived at 39+3. I've got this strange feeling I might actually carry to my due date with my 5th!!!

How are you nojo? How rubbish to be stuck there so long.
Hope you can see your mw for some reasurrance south

Barking and everyone else suffering with piles, after a horrid day yesterday which included having to go for a meeting in a stiffling warm room with a load of people taling about Brexit (what could be more depressing), travelling there and back on the tube after having already travelled into work on the tube and THEN picking up DD at nursery and spending an hour with her in the playground, all the while in massive pain, my piles have finally got better today!

What seems to have done the trick is taking a sitz bath last night and one in the middle of the night when I woke with pain (just sai in a flat and low bucket, didn't have the strenght to scrub the tub sufficiently clinically clean), using the Anusol with hydrocortisone (there are two versions of Anusol, one is milder and does not have hydrocortisone and did nothing for me), drinking loads of water, trying not to sit for too long at the time, and finally, when the pain got too bad and kep me awake last night, I remebered that I had a stereoid cream from when I had a very swollen cut after giving birth to DD, so I put some of that on. Know that it's not reccommended for pregnancy and wasn't even prescribed for piles but for a cut near the vagina, but reasoned that steroids are steroids, and that one application would not harm the baby. And this morning the pain was soooo much better!

Londonmamabychance · 14/09/2016 10:27

South yes, it is such a shame about the NHS. I feel a bit stressed about having to rely on them, given how much under pressure they are. I hope for you that the clinics will at least be near you. My baby clinic with DD was really near me, and yes the HV was absolutely rubbish (e.g. told me not to let my baby sleep in a sleeping bag inside because she assumed I meant one of those super warm wraps people use for buggies, apparently she'd never heard of a grobag!) but at least it was a v short walk.

SouthDownsSunshine · 14/09/2016 11:24

I feel lucky that I have local friends that are a midwife and a health visitor, so I can rely on them a bit. With dd I struck lucky after 6 months with a wonderful hv, but she's retiring this month which is gutting.

Off to get pains checked out at triage. Felt really torn between working and getting checked out. Gah. Wish there was a way to manage both!

Bigfam · 14/09/2016 11:34

Don't worry about work south it's definitely better to be checked over, if you had decided not to it would've worried you. Good luck Smile

Bigfam · 14/09/2016 11:51

There's been a birth arrival with someone I know (can't go into detail). She had a baby girl yesterday at 28 weeks!

Lovewatchingrainfall · 14/09/2016 12:31

Wow BigFam is all okay with mum and baby. That's early.

South I hope all is okay.

Bigfam · 14/09/2016 12:42

Her waters went/have been leaking for a few weeks & she's been in & out of hospital for check ups, whilst being on bed rest. She was born at home and although she was only 28 weeks managed to breath on her own whilst waiting for an ambulance and is now in NICU, but both mum and baby are doing well.

Lovewatchingrainfall · 14/09/2016 12:51

Oh BigFam that must have been so scary for all involved. Sending FlowersChocolateCake.

At least in the best care now.

Nojo82 · 14/09/2016 12:58

Just a wee update on me.. so they taught me this morning how to administer the clexine injections so i could go home today and take myself for the VQ scan tomorrow. Happy days!! NO!! Shortly after my heart rate is through the roof. So Doctor was called. So they are gona send me for a heart scan, then VQ scan then a 24hr heart monitor tape. So all go. Thankfully baby is very happy. In fact since I've been here he has been very active.. hes liking that im resting..

Bigfam · 14/09/2016 13:17

nojo what a nightmare!!!!! It must be so frustrating & scary to be fine one minute and then to have a funny turn like that. Flowers

Can I get some honest opinions ladies? I've already posted that we'll be calling the baby Romy, but we were thinking of using Romany on her birth certificate. My oh is a traveller (obviously settled Grin) do you think we should avoid using Romany given she is part traveller?

Lovewatchingrainfall · 14/09/2016 13:32

I like Romany but I think it's your personal preference they are both lovely.

SouthDownsSunshine · 14/09/2016 13:38

Oh no nojo! It does sound like they're being nice and careful. So are you in for another day?

bigfam I love either name, both are lovely. I hope your friend and her baby are ok.

Currently strapped up to the monitor, loving hearing baby's heartbeat. Hard not to fall asleep whilst lying back!

Bigfam · 14/09/2016 14:09

Glad you're being checked south

Lovewatchingrainfall · 14/09/2016 14:36

That's good your being checked out south.

Kitch82 · 14/09/2016 14:38

I can't believe how many of us are having a hard time. I've just got back from 3rd physio appointment and I've got crutches for my spd, it's absolute agony. Apparently my pelvis is lopsided which is making things worse. On the plus side bubs is so so active this week, which is reassuring.
Cake to everyone having a rough time, only 3 months left!!

SouthDownsSunshine · 14/09/2016 15:07

Got the all clear. I guess I should start to take it easy. ...

Sorry about your pain kitsch, I hope the crutches and physio helps.

Kitch82 · 14/09/2016 15:30

That's great news south. I'm the same with work, I feel like I just need to keep ploughing on but now is the time to try and take it easy, remember we are actually growing an entire human and take it easy. I'm taking the rest of the week off. Hope you manage to wind down a bit.

KitKat1985 · 14/09/2016 15:37

Wow BigFam 28 weeks that is early. Glad Mum and baby are doing well. I actually really like Romany so would think that would be nice. xx

South glad your check-up went okay. Much better you went in though as better safe than sorry. xx

Kitch82 sorry you are having such a rough time with SPD. I hope the crutches help. xx

I've just picked up a voicemail from my midwife to say that I'm a bit anaemic so they are prescribing me some iron tablets which I need to pick up tomorrow. It helps though to know that maybe some of my tiredness and breathlessness isn't imaginary! I did wonder if I was (I'm at a slightly higher risk as I'm vegetarian although I have been taking pregnacare which I thought would help prevent me getting anaemic but obviously not)!

Grapefruit8 · 14/09/2016 17:09

Gosh bigfam 28 weeks is early isn't it? Hope all is okay. Ladies how do i join the facebook page please?

Nojo82 · 14/09/2016 17:26

Oh thank god south. Pregnancy is quite a scary thing. Ive come to realise that sitting here in hospital.

Yes southdown im in until at least tomorrow. Will see how its goes.

Anyone know if having GD affects your heart?? Ive got gtt on tuesday and this has me scared that its something to do with that..

SolomanDaisy · 14/09/2016 17:34

Wow, that must be scary for your friend BigFam. Babies have a really good chance at 28 weeks now, don't they?

Glad to hear everything's ok south.

Nojo, they'll have done a basic glucose test as part of your bloods, won't they? I've never heard of GD causing a racing heart, but I know anaemia can.

Nojo82 · 14/09/2016 17:46

Ok thanks. No anemia so all good there.. not sure about glucose but theres none in my urine so looking good that i dontvhave gd..

peanutbutter2409 · 14/09/2016 18:17

Is anyone else really scared all of a sudden?! It's hit me today that in just over 10 weeks I'll have a baby. I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm going to be reasonable for a little human. On top of that, I have no idea about childcare for when I go back to work and work are talking to be about mat cover - I'm fighting my corner to make sure I have a job to go back to (I'm in sales and my clients will need to be 'looked after' whilst I'm off) all in all this pregnancy has been bloody painful with SPD since 8 weeks, but it's flown and all feeling VERY real all of a sudden. I'm sure it's hormones messing me up again today but someone please tell me I'm not the only one feeling like this?!
