Hope you're all well! Just got back from three weeks hols and realised my 28 weeks midwife appointmet isn't booked, it's next weeka dn i've been trying to call UCLH all day, they just keep hamnging up or not answering the phone in the appointment center, driving me nuts! guess the NHS really is under crazy pressure. Wonder how I'll ever be able to book an appointment! slightly worrying abut the whole place now. Anyone else there?

Another thing, maybe TMI, but, ahem, anyone else suffering badly with piles/haemmoroides? Realise it's supposed to be fairly common in pregnancy..I've been using Anusol cream but it's not helping at all, and the guidelines I read online say not to use suppositories when pregnant : ( any tips?

Londonmamabychance · 12/09/2016 15:53

Nojo82, hope it goes well at the hopsital. They're always super careful when you're pregannt! with my first, I came in when i was 8 weeks because I had a lot of pain but no bleeding and they kept me there for 24 hours, would not send me home due to fear of internal bleeding. I almost regretted having gone in! ; ) but of course it's better safe than sorry. x

SolomanDaisy · 12/09/2016 16:20

Hope the scan went ok nojo.

People were talking about Frugi earlier on the thread, they've just reduced their sale clothes. I got a very cute Christmas romper and hat!

I've been cleaning up DS's bugaboo bee to use today, I'd forgotten just how difficult it is to unfold with SPD. Anyone with pelvic pain do not buy a bugaboo bee! You have to stand on one leg and put loads of pressure down with the other to unfold.

Nojo82 · 12/09/2016 17:17

Scan on my legs and chest x-ray clear but now the consultants are going to have a meeting to see if they want to do further tests. I asked what are the possibilities that I actually do have a clot. The doctor who seen me when I first came in said I had all the symptoms of one and being pregnant has increased chances.

Bigfam · 12/09/2016 17:50

Oh what a nightmare nojo hope you're out soon!

goinggrey1978 · 12/09/2016 17:59

Londonmamabychance, yes very bad, big and uncomfortable piles a couple of weeks back thank goodness for germoliods cream or ointment is all i can say, regular use and they were much better and make sure you stay hydrated as dehydration makes them a lot worse!!

Thisisbonkers · 12/09/2016 19:29

london I did but fortunately the anusol worked for me.

Have been rowing with DP today over decorating the nursery. Apparently I'm doing a shit job of it, but it's my project so he's not getting involved..! Anyone finding themselves going from zero to full on snot and tears reactions? I'd normally tell him to fuck off and have done with it but my reactions are quite something else at the moment!

firawla · 12/09/2016 23:28

londonmamabychance I had my 1st two babies in uclh - they're 8 and 6 now so it was a while back but I was overall happy with it. They're a v v busy hospital so found I saw all different people with antenatal care it wasn't the most personal service but for actual labour, and for the postnatal care, I can't fault them. With ds1 we were in a week in the transitional care ward as it was a difficult birth and he'd got an infection, and they were very good! I had a friend there giving birth at the same time in the birth centre and she loved it there! Hope you manage to get your appointment sorted ASAP - that does sound like a pita, but for the overall experience of how the birth might go don't worry about the place too much they're a bit more on the ball with the actual labour ward I think!

Nojo82 · 13/09/2016 07:09

CT scan today.. they said it has no risk to baby. Going mad here..

Popskipiekin · 13/09/2016 07:55

londonmamabychance I had DS (almost 2) at uch. Never had a problem with the appointments service though they were always quite busy - sorry you're having a bad time with that. Can't fault the care whilst in labour - I was on labour ward and the baby's hb kept dropping so teams kept crashing into the room but they were all really calm and good and I was always reassured. Excellent young doctor delivered him by ventouse in the end. UCH are so experienced with the more complicated pregnancies & deliveries I think. Post-natally was great too although they took forever to discharge me, I think because it was a Saturday when I was trying to leave. For sake of balance I have a friend who didn't like their midwife during labour and she is now having DC2 at Royal Free. It's total pot luck really, your experience can be swayed just by one person.

Nojo so sorry to hear they're still keeping you in for more tests - hope they reach a conclusion soon and you can go home!

Londonmamabychance · 13/09/2016 09:40

Popskin and Firawala, great to hear your good experiences! I had DD there almost two years ago now and was very happy, but the experience this time around has been different. They seem to have become massively more busy in those two years. I actually live much nearer the Royal London, but as heard quite a few bad stories about it decided to stick with UCLH again, but now I'm doubting my decission...it's so difficult! the thing with the royal London is, I could get there so much quicker than UCLH, so that is making me think maybe it's not too bad....on the onther hand, UCLH is just a30 min taxi journey away (in traffic) so also should not be too bad. Just feel annoyed that I picked them again because they are meant to be better and now they're being a bit shit. Oh well, hopefully appointment will be sorted soon! whewre are you having your babies this time round then?

Thnaks for advice on piles, am hoping the anusol will help soon! May try germalodis instead as well is this does not help soon, it's driving me nuts.

Nojo, you klnow that if you feel reassured yourself, you can discharge yourself? They normally get v annoyed about it, but if you really feel that they're just being over cautious (they have to in order to follow guidelines) then you could just insit on discharging yourself, I did when they wanted to keep me in overnight when I vcame in with pain in week 8 with DD, they were very peed off with me but I just coulnd't face a night in the busy and noisy ward and felt 100 pct certain within myself after their initial check up that it was nothing serious. So went home and the next day on my own for a scan that showed all was fine, the pian was just caused my a small cyst left after the ovulation.

stripeyorangesocks71 · 13/09/2016 16:44

Been to see doctor this afternoon for another pregnancy related issue, and after worrying like mad about having Gestational Diabetes and showing as 'big' last week on a bump measurement, she's confirmed I don't have GD at all and I'm not even borderline, I'm so relieved Smile

LittleBear01 · 13/09/2016 17:51

Hi all,

Has anyone found a cheaper alternative to the sleepyhead? I've got a snuzpod so need it to be small enough to fit in there.

Thanks Smile

Bigfam · 13/09/2016 18:00

LittleBear01 I bought the purflo nest. Not sure how big it is though.
Here they are.

firawla · 13/09/2016 18:11

londonmama I'm having this one at Watford since we moved a bit further out. I thought being out of London it would be less busy and more personal than the central London uch type ones but I've found it has that same busy feel st Watford anyway! I did have ds3 at Whittington before we moved from north London, and actually found them great although I'd heard a lot of bad experiences from other people - so you never know really!!

LittleBear01 · 13/09/2016 18:36

Thanks Bigfam, I'll have a look into the purflo Smile

Bigfam · 13/09/2016 18:49

That's ok LittleBear01
Just seen on the south today news that cases of whooping cough have increased here, I didn't have the vaccine in my last pregnancy (2 years ago) but am booked in for tuesday.

peanutbutter2409 · 13/09/2016 19:11

Hi all, has anyone bout their baby monitor? Which one dos you go for and why? I've been looking at the Angelcare but wondering if there's a better one! I'm thinking Angelcare as its got the sensor pad.
Also, do you recommend a sleepyhead/cocoonababy etc? I've bought a Halo Bassinest and plan to swaddled the little man but as a FTM, I have no idea!

I'd be really grateful for any advice - thank you! X

peanutbutter2409 · 13/09/2016 19:11

*bought

peanutbutter2409 · 13/09/2016 19:12

Urrrrrgh - ignore all the typos! As you can guess I didn't check before sending

OrianaBanana · 13/09/2016 19:26

I had a BT one for DS and so I got the next BT model up for this one. I didn't want a video one, or a mat that monitors movements; the only stipulations were that it was a reputable brand, and it showed the temperature. I got it on eBay.

Lovewatchingrainfall · 13/09/2016 19:40

I have the Angelcare one. It was amazing with my daughter who is now 3. So brought it again. I found it reassuring with her Heath needs. And plus you can use it without the mat when they get bigger.
I was not keen on the video monitors one I think they would make me feel more nervous.
Have my GTT booked in for the morning and then will need to book my whooping cough and flu jab, seems like so many jabs at this time of year.

Hope your okay mojo and will be home soon.

SolomanDaisy · 13/09/2016 19:45

I was thinking of getting a video monitor this time, having seen them at several friends'. I like being able to watch what they're up to!

LittleBear01 · 13/09/2016 20:30

Sorry ladies, another question from me. How exactly are you going about counting kicks?

I'm 28 weeks today (hello 3rd trimester!) so want to start but I'm confused. Have read the counting kicks website and downloaded the app, but my little man kicks so much that I'd be counting loads!

Are you choosing a time of the day to monitor every day?

LittleBear01 · 13/09/2016 20:32

Peanut, we've gone for a Motorola video monitor as it had good reviews. We choose not to get a movement mat as I don't think you can use them with a sleepyhead-type thing, and my friend said she found it more worrying then helpful. She said once the baby can move themself around in bed, the alarm goes off all the time. I'm a worrier at the best of times so don't need the additional stress!
