Hi all,

Writing this at work through bleary eys as DD1 is waking up every other night for approx 2 hours at a time. She is just getting over chicken pox which didn't really bother her but dh and I are getting exhausted with the constant calling out and knocking on the wall.

Any ideas she will be 4yrs in June!!! and up until a few months ago has been a perfect sleeper. Have tried star chart, reward stickers etc. Gets better for about a week and then sleep pattern reteuns when she wakes its as though she's had a cup of coffee!!

Anyway the pram/buggy thing. I have a tandem buggy, a travel system and a Mclaren stroller and just this week-end decided to sell all of them for one that I've seen in Argos it's a Graco travel system and comes with car seat, the pushchair can be used from birth and looks quite compact and lightweight. I'm planning on putting abuggy board on the back should DD2 need it but she is a good walker. we've got a seat to go one so that she can sit or stand on it and it's fab.So i'm off to Argo in a minute to have a look at this buggy and if it's ok will sell the rest/ and hopefully will cover the cost of buying a new one. It's only £99 quid which I think is very resonable

Our buliders just phoned to say that the inspector has agreed the work can commence whoppee!!!!! but they can't get any scaffold for a couple of weeks I am destined to give birth in my front room with the builders watching

Anyway enough wafilling[sp] hope you're all well take care

Myfairone · 12/04/2007 13:50

Saf1 - So sorry to hear you are not getting enough sleep...it absolutely drains you doesn't it?! I am kind of smiling at the thought of all the builders gawping through the window watching you give birth though!
Argos sounds like a good deal! Hope its to your liking.

Miaou - Sounds like you are being very well looked after! Lets hope all goes well so you don't have to make that drive!

Justaboutmanaging - Keeping it all crossed for you!

Firststar - Glad to hear you are getting bottles and pumps etc! I feel so out of my depth trying to prepare for this, having never done it before. I'm acting like I won't be able to go shopping ever again!

Guess what everyone.....I'm eating a 'salad'!!!!!! I can look at green stuff now and actually enjoy it! Long may it continue!

Cakehead · 12/04/2007 14:00

Hello everyone, glad to hear everyone's coping.
Can I just ask an opinion: Did my midwife give away the sex yesterday or not?
I had to have a glucose tolerance test at hospital yesterday - 28 weeks in and aged 35, so technically an 'older mother' on the NHS. While the midwife was listening to the baby's heart beat, she said, 'Her head's over here, and she's lying across like this.' Then she paused and said, 'Do you know what sex you're having?' as if she'd suddendly realised she'd put her foot in it. I said no, and she then referred to a he/she throughout the rest of the examination. Is there something on my notes that could have told her? Personally I've thought I was expecting a girl, but wanted to find out at the last moment, as it were!

Myfairone · 12/04/2007 15:07

Cakehead - the same thing happened to a friend of mine and she thought it was a slip up and asked for confirmation and was told that she was infact having a Boy!

Seems that the lady just referred to all as a 'she'...

It will still be a surprise because your not 100% sure if she slipped up or not!

Firststar - My Mum has been like my 'scout' roaming around all the stores and picking things up when she sees them or when there are sales on.

I had to laugh today. I bought a few things when I was in America and Mum decided to wash them....apparently all the newborn stuff is at least 2in bigger than the newborn stuff from here! So it seems their babies are bigger there too!

Excited like you can't believe! And yes, it is grandchild #1. Being 37 and an only child they 'never thought it was going to happen'!

Glad the appointment went well and very positive that you have been referred...hopefully the physio can help.

Caroline1852 · 12/04/2007 16:29

Interesting all these travel options! Justaboutmanaging we walk most places too, we only really use the car once a week for the big supermarket shop - with a new baby and a tot that should be fun - so I do need a proper solution. I must be overly optimistic expecting my DD to learn to walk and walk well and long within the next three months. I just come out in a cold sweat looking at the expense of a double pushchair (have looked at Phil&teds and Jane Powertwin and Maclaren twin). I don't think the Maclarens look that comfy and cozy for newborn - 6 months) the phil&teds second seat is so low I will worry that the baby is getting grazed along the pavement and there is no view whatsoever.

Cakehead,

I am guessing that your midwife just referred to baby as a she, and then wondered if you knew (as it would be a bit strange if you knew it was a boy for example). I doubt there is anything on your notes, especially if you didn't want to know the sex.

So if I were you I'd go on guessing. I was sure I was having a boy last time (as were a lot of people), and I was wrong! A friend was so confident we were having a boy she even bought a new boy baby card for us in advance! The midwife even said it was a boy based on the heartbeat at 39 weeks (more ploddy=boy, more skippy=girl according to the old wives tale) so don't read anything into heartbeats either!

I've heard somewhere that the ring test (involving rings on strings) is actually 70-80% accurate (the rest are generally around 50:50 as you'd expect) but I can't remember how to do it. I might ask a friend to do it (it's been right for her both times) and see what it shows for me, given that I know what I'm having!

I think you're all right - it will still be a surprise whatever he/she is when they arrive. Before DD was born, the midwife said earlier in the morning while listening to the heartbeat 'That sounds like a boy to me...' and she was wrong ultimately.
And yes, Caroline, I'm putting off the whole double-buggy thing at the moment - can't bear thinking about it. I walk everywhere and can't work out which double buggies will fit through shop doors and thought the Phil n Ted looked really odd, like the baby will never see anything on a walk. I'm tempted by the cheap Mothercare option, to be honest, but agree it doesn't look as comfy as the Bebe Loola my toddler had as a new born. I loved that pram, particularly as you could turn it round so the baby faced you all the time.

JennySpringster · 12/04/2007 21:18

If you're tall just think about the height of the handle! VERY VERY important, especially if there are 2 being pushed.

berrysmum · 12/04/2007 21:32

Hi all you July ladies!
Cakehead; my friend took her 2year old to her scan and the midwife said "are you looking forward to having a little sister then..?" She then said to my friend "Oh, didn't you want to know?"
My friend didn't tell a soul but secretly chose a girl's name(very clever so she thought as she allowed her dh to be in charge of the names for a boy!) and bought a couple of frilly dresses. Four months later out popped ds number 2!!! She loves him to bits, but even she would admit that she was absolutely gutted at the time. Double nightmare eh - not only did she tell her the sex, she also got it wrong!!!
On a totally different path, has anyone else been told that their baby is head down already? I went to see midwife this week and was quite surprised, as I don't remember that happening till about 38 weeks last time?

JennySpringster · 12/04/2007 21:36

Mine was head down for 20 week scan and then transverse at 24 weeks mw appt, but then still a bit early to tell by just feeling.

typhoonsmum · 13/04/2007 08:04

Saf1

My DD went thru exactly the same thing a few months ago. She is 4 and was waking at about 1am and would stay awake for about 3 hours calling me to see everything that she had done. The bags under my eyes were unbelievable. She was also having accidents in the bed which woke her up. I had to explain to her that the baby was making mummy tired and she needed to sleep as I had to work as well.
She is a good girl really. (If you don't mind the tantrums) She understood and started to sort herself out if she wet and told me in the morning. The wetting stopped a few weeks ago and now she sleeps thru again. I feel much better.
It is more than likely just a phase and she will come out the other side. Hang on in there.
Never thought of looking in Argos for prams. They are quite good. Really reasonable.

Groveregg · 13/04/2007 09:38

Hi all, hope everything is good. I have been having some rough nights too but with teething ds, at last some molars are appearing. Had an interesting week or so all round as builders have been round doing our bathroom; they started it last Thursday without any warning and haven't had a day off since then so it has been chaos, my tears have been flowing freely but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now! I think the worst point was last Monday when the bath taps went bang and hot water was spraying everywhere and then when I was having a lie down one of them looked in my bderoom window (on 1st floor!) and dh had forgotten to tell me he'd asked them to put some scaffolding up and paint our window frames!!!!

Enjoying the talk of double buggies; I recently got a second hand Mamas and Papas twin Aria off Ebay as it's the lightest and ds liked sitting in it. I am a bit daunted by it now it's here as it is just so wide compared to the single one I use now and I can't imagine how many shops I will fit in. But time will tell.

Have had a growth scan and ante-natal check with the consultant this morning and am v pleased that everything seems to be going well so far. Baby measured 1250gms, which is 250gms more than DS was when he was born 11 days later on in the pregnancy! BP has lowered since last measurement and consultant has totally changed his tune and says that if everything continues like so, then I can try a VBAC if I want. Baby is head up at the moment but there's still plenty of time to turn so not worrying about that yet.

All in all a very good morning!!

Caroline1852 · 13/04/2007 15:15

Thanks for the stats Abgirl. That's brilliant news about your growth scan and keeping all your options open as to mode of delivery. If you don't mind me asking, what caused the premature delivery of your previous baby? Do they know?

catstar · 13/04/2007 15:17

Wow - Abgirl - does that mean your ds was born at about 30 weeks? What was that like? I can't imagine anything so small! thanks for the stats and hope everyone has a lovely HOT weekend !!

DS was born at 29+4 and weighed 2lb, 2oz - I had severe pre-eclampsia which came on very quickly (over a weekend). Whole experience was b***y horrible to be quite honest and am v grateful to be monitored extremely closely this time. There are some photos of DS in his incubator on my profile page, and of how gorgeous he is now as well! Madmumnika went through a very similiar experience as well.

TBH am not desperate for a VBAC as was all geared up in my mind for another c-section but the recovery time does sound much better (and easier with DS running around as well). We are waiting to see what my 36 week scan looks like (if we get that far) before making a final decision.
