mmn & abgirl - thanks for your support. Doc had left me rather concerned (he's not my normal GP thankfully) but I've just seen occ health at work who were more helpful. She's given me some tips and is going to check out advice from the work physio for me, and has offered to do weekly BP & urine checks if it needs doing regularly (this morning doc suggested doing it weekly) as it's a 2 hour round trip from work to doc and back on the infrequent bus that I use. So feeling much more positive.

Really glad all is ok Jamantha. I suppose your GP is just being on the 'safe side' but like abgirl said being overweight is not necessarily linked with PE- I wasn't and still got it. I really hope he hasn't got you too worried anyhow. To be honest I think the gardening could be a big factor- with our ligaments softening it is easy to strain them and wrists seem to be prone to this. Did your GP give you any exercises or recommend a physio? I suppose rest will do the most good anyhow!

Hope all is fine at your appt on Thurs. Like abgirl said APEC (Action on Pre-Eclampsia) is a great resource so do take a look if you are concerned. xx

abgirl · 17/04/2007 11:41

Hmm, Jamantha am v glad to hear that your BP and urine were normal, not sure that your GP should be saying you're at risk of PE through being overweight - it may be an additional factor is causing/worsening PE but will not be the cause of it, - Darcy Bussell had PE and I don't think anyone could accuse her of being overweight! If anyone wants sensible advice/information on PE please have a look at apec which is a charity for and about PE.

I'm hoping that the increase in wrist pain the past couple of days may be partly due to long sessions gardenening at weekend? Am meant to be seeing physio at work to get help with wrists so there's hope yet but obviously hoping BP etc stays normal.

Report
Jamantha · 17/04/2007 10:51

Well nothing in urine, BP 123/77, slightly up from last measurement (120/70) but he said OK. He's concerned that I'm at risk of PE though (rather overweight) so have to go be checked again on Thursday. He's also given me some mild diuretics to try to shift some fluid to relieve pressure and pain in wrists.

madmumNika · 17/04/2007 10:08

Jamantha, thinking of you this morning, really hope all is ok. Your BP might be affected a little by worrying but if it is raised your GP should repeat the measurement 3 times to check it is 'real'. Protein in urine is a reliable indicator, but I really hope yours is clear (can also mean an infection...). I have to admit I did get carpel tunnel syndrome with my last pregnancy, not helped by a lot of typing as was working long hours at the computer then. They can give you straps to help, but mine was mainly due to the strain I was putting on them working too much so had to ease back a little. Also I didn't realise it then but I had started to swell significantly and was developing PE- the swelling does make wrists more sore. I really hope though for you PE is not the cause.

Will be looking out for your next post, keeping everything crossed for you xxxx

After 2nd night with sleep badly disturbed by wrist pains I rang GP this morning to see what I can do (had hoped to wait til MW appointment next week but that's not going to happen). Have to go in this mornign for BP and urine check in case I've got pre-eclampsia. Eek! Am trying not to worry in case that sends BP up in the meantime, but easier said than done. Sorry to trouble you all with this but DH is away with work (in America) so I feel rather alone.

Jamantha and Groveregg, we went to Great Yarmouth 0 tacky in its own way and totally not the sort of holiday we usually go for, but the weather was fab, dd enjoyed going on a few fair rides for littlies and we also drove around a bit, in the country and up to Cromer, which as far as seasides go was as far removed from Gt Yarmouth as it could have been! also lovely Cromer crab!! Also came across a great pub - The Castle Carvery - in Caister. Very well geared up for children, with outside play area a childrens room, amd a large indoor soft play area with slides etc (£2 for 2 hours) so mummy & daddy could enjot their meal in realtive peace!!

No achy hips here, but often wake up with aches on legs, back etc. I think it's where I try so hard all night not to roll on my back, and then usually find that i have!

Our home improvements don't look likely to be finished. We're doing a full on extension. Fortunately its all outside at the mo, and not likely to be inside before lo joins the world. But it does mean we can't really use the garden - a real bummer with the gorgeous weather we've been having!

caroline - you're no alone - I've had no appts (apart from private dating and nuchal scan) at all . GP delayed sending my first referral after bounced from first hospital as too full, then told today second choice of hospital also full. So annoyed/anxious about what the hell is going to happen now (will get a bed somewhere but when/where and when I'll get into see anyone is a matter to guess). Lets hope nothing wrong with me or the LO...

Thanks Jennster!!! Doing them as I type - thing is, I'm sure I move my eyebrows up and down in synch, so probably look a bit silly at my desk .

I know what you mean about it all starting to seem more real. I've booked onto an NCT course, and the first one starts on 1st May. Also, my friend said to me today "Only 12 weeks to go - are you panicking yet?". I wasn't until she said that!!! We've still got tonnes of decorating to finish at home and I haven't bought anything for the baby yet .

Sympthise with all the achy hips - I can;t lay on my side for more than an hour before the pain wakes me up. Have taken to propping myself semi-upright with loads of cushions and now feel like the Queen!! At least I'm now getting more than a couple of hours at a time. Hope everyone gets a good night tonight.

Hey all,

Its taken me ages to catch up but now cant remember who said what!

Achey hips, no but I have a pain at the base of my spine to the right hand side. When I bend over it feels like it catches and I can't stand up without making a groaning noise! Nice!

Sleeping has been a nightmare! Seem to wake every hour and cannot get back to sleep. Which of course leaves me tired and rather tearful!

Can't remember who it was that said they didnt feel normal being so tired but believe me I AM TIRED!

My bump has started to feel really heavy and I seem to have very little energy!

Okay, moaning over, I hope you are all okay and that achey hips and leaky bladders are not ruining your day!

Hi everyone - great weekend for most of us! The weather was just great on the northumberland coast but must start putting sun cream on!!! Pink nose today.

LynneC - I hope the funeral was OK and you are doing well... I bet DH was in trouble for leaving all that stuff in the bathroom.

Good info on the buggies / pushchairs!!! Wow, just hearing that some of you are starting woek handovers and even starting leave is making me realise that there is not long left!

Thanks for the tips. I do have a cash back plan for private health care so may consider going to a physio if the pain keeps going - however I think it may partially be how I sit at work and as I only have today and tomorrow and two days next week left to work it may be that I just feel better once I am at home all the time.

mmnika, glad to hear that everything's going well and good luck with the steroids next week (ouch!!).

No hip problems here, but bad hands/wrists (carpel tunnel I think). Am hoping to see a physio soon to get some exercises to help, and will talk to MW about it next week. Any one else having similar problems?

Hi everyone, sorry not been able to catch up for ages...have my sister over for a week so we have been out & about a lot...but back to work today!

Abgirl- I have some trouble with my hips and see a private physio (quicker than getting referred by the NHS when pregnant!) and she has been fantastic- it may be worth seeing if you could visit one? Definitely mention it to your midwife though. My physio has recommended some exercises which really help and also optimum sleeping positions etc. (although have temporarily given up with pillow under bump/between knees as keep losing them in the night and making me more uncomfy!!).

Had a consultant apt. last thurs...all seems fine so far- yey! But am being given the steroids to mature LOs lungs next Thurs (26th) when I will be 27+4 wks as they want to be sure if pre-eclampsia kicks off again the baby has the best possible chance if it arrives early. Find it hard considering this might happen but know it's probably for the best. We have still decided though not to get anything ready until I reach 35 weeks!!

Abgirl- really relieved LO is growing well & BP is good

Huge hugs to you all xxxx

Groveregg, I grew up in Norwich, on the North side of the city. While it has its faults, the major one being transport links, I think it's a lovely place. Am trying to persuade DH we should have a holiday in Norfolk sometime (other than going to see my parents for the weekend). No sucess as yet, but will try harder once DS or DD is here - I think it's important that he/she knows a bit about the family background and would love to share some of the places I visited as a child.

Hi Abgirl,

Yep - also suffering from achy hips. Mine have improved, and think that's because:

  • I do some gentle exercises..that typically I can't find now. Will dig them out but basically involve things like gently squeezing a towel or your fist between your knees; abdo holds etc.
  • I sleep with a pillow that props between my knees and then props up the bump too
  • I've tried to keep doing some gentle exercise
  • Weirdly (since i think this is basically SPD) if I very gently let my knees open out for a gentle stretch it seems to help.

The worst times for me are when I haven't been moving around, so when I get up in the morning and if I've been sitting a lot at work.

Blooming hell... essay Hope they improve a bit.

Hi, will add theprecious and agnes on to the stats.

Agnes will definitely mention hips to the midwife if they continue to hurt, is not really debilitating just quite painful at times - will try to adjust the position of pillow mountain and see if that has any effect...

Abgirl:

Hell yes on the hips thing. I've been in agony from about twelve weeks. I have aching joints at the best of times, but my hips have taken very badly to being pregnant again and are making their thoughts known. I spent three hours in the bathroom waging war on anything that got in my way over the weekend, and I was incapable of moving afterwards. All I can suggest is a heat pad for relief and maybe a chat to your midwife?

Also, please can I be added to the stats? I'm 26+3 today (16/04). Thanks

Agnes
