Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi ladies. Not been on for a while but been keeping up to date.

I am having a dilemma. I currently have a wonderful childminder for DD, its a stange situation because she looks after dd and also cleans for me and mum therefore doesnt take on any more chidren (her choice). So i pay for minding and cleaning. We sat down together yesterday to discuss money after i went back to work and she looks after both which was fine. Then I brought up the subject of when I was off. I want to have DD with me when I am on leave she is only 3 and half, and that I wanted 6-9 mths on leave. CM was shocked at time I wanted off???? also said ahe wanted paying full pay and cleaning rates even if I didnt want her. I obviously was not going to stop paying her altogether but was thinking half and to quit the cleaning. I understand that she releys on the money but I cant afford to pay her full throughout. We are going into savings for me to have time off as it is. Her reply was I would have to go back to work earlier or she would have to find another job. Its really upset me as It was her decision to dergister and clean, now she is kind of blackmailing me and making me feel very guilty. I dont know wheter it is normal to pay full while I look after my own daughter. Someone please help me!!!

Caroline1852 · 05/04/2007 10:54

Difficult one about the Childminder. She is not really holding you to ransom, just expressing her real concerns about how her and her family will survive on reduced means for such a long period. Market forces really. I would have thought that a big dollop of understanding on both sides is the best way to go. She looks for another job and you tell her very firmly that you would love to have her back should she be available when it is time for you to go back to work. It is far too early to worry about it from your point of view. Who is to say that she will not find another job a year from now in any case, and meanwhile you have paid her a retainer for what? Don't let it spoil your relationship with her and certainly don't let it spoil your pregnancy!

Nicky29 · 05/04/2007 12:40

Thanks - don't worry it was only a mild wobble and feeling fine now. I live in Cameroon so it must be the heat!

Anyway - it's nice to 'meet' you all be part of the newbies

Nicky29 · 05/04/2007 12:45

Also I have a rhesus neg blood group. The rules seem to be different all over Europe re when to take the antibodies. Some just say after birth. Does anyone know what the norm is in the UK? Thanks

Hi all

Haven't been on for what seems like an eternity

I am rh- and had to have anti D injections at 28 and 33 weeks I think with my last two pregnancies. Bloody painful injection but fine other than that.

All this talk of preparing nurseries is making me very jealous well kind of we have to have our extension built first we've got 3 bedrooms and are getting an extra one, my thing is that the baby will be with us for the first 6 months anyway so there's no need for a mad rush..learnt this after dd1

I currently use a childminder 2 days a week and will continue to do so once the lo is born, primarily because both dd's would probably be bored with me, I might be exhausted and need to catch up on some sleep and I would still have to pay CM if I didn't use her.

My bump is all out front this time and I have put on about a stone but people keep telling me how I've suddenly got big which for a 3rd timer I don't really need/ want to hear. I'm very paranoid this time round that I am going to look like a whale

Someone was saying the other day about having a construction worker tunnelling down.. my god that is just like my lo, almost feels as though it could drop out already so frantically doing my pelvic floors

Lots of laughs the other day about the HP fans. I too am one and hopefully will be reading the book whilst in labour

Enjoy the weather and Happy Easter

lynneC, I jusy wanted to say i know how hard things must be for you right now, i lost my nanna a few weeks ago. It is hard at the best of times, but when your pg, it just seems so much harder.
My ds is too young to understand, but me been upset seemed to have an affect on him. Things have started to get easier now, but we are a very close family, and family get togethers seem to be the hardest.

Just take each day as it comes, but make sure you eat, drink and sleep, Ds is the only thing that has kept me going, when all i wanted to do was cry, i had to get it togther and go out, poeple at the m+b group i go to know so nobody asked to many questions.

Chooster · 05/04/2007 20:50

Hi all - Wow, people doing nurseries up, time really is flying by isn't it. We'll be doing something nearer the time, but I just haven't got my head round it yet. DH unfortunately is being made redundant at the beginning of June (perfect timing eh ) so hopefully, unless this little one is early, we should have time to get ready before he arrives

Thats a tricky one EmmyB although it seems there is some good advise on this. Would you / DD be very upset if she got another job and wasn't able to look after your LO's once you go back to work? We use a nursery for DS and expect to keep him going although we may drop a day.

Welcome to the newbies - there's been quite a few recently. We've got the same due date Nath Wonder when we'll all eventually drop?

Hope everyone has got lovely weekends planned. Fingers crossed this great weather continues - it was just like summer today!

berrysmum · 05/04/2007 21:35

emmyb, I also want to use my child minder again with this baby when I return to work around Jan time. DD starts school in Sept and, obviously, I will be at home so I am paying a 50% retainer to keep the place open. She does have other kids too though, so maybe if yours is just looking after your lo she feels she needs full pay to get by...? Seems a bit steep though.

saf1, I am with you on the weight thing. Have also put on about a stone, which is apparently right (textbooks say 4lb in first tri, then about a pound a week) so was feeling fairly pleased with myself but everyone at work keeps telling me I am huge! Going to slap one of them soon if they don't give up!!!

Hope all have a lovely Easter weekend and get lots of chocolate (opportunity to look even more 'huge' I guess!)

lynnec · 06/04/2007 22:39

Mind you...think its a holiday for most of you today....have you all gone away for the weekend?????

Myfairone · 07/04/2007 05:16

Morning all! Yes it really is 5.08am isnt it! I have been awake since 3.30 with a real feeling that I was unwell. Laid there for an hour and finally got up. I think that I was getting dizzy from lying down! ANyone else ever get like that? I just couldn't get comfy and LO seemed to think it was time to start bouncing around!

Sorry to hear about your Nan, Littlepiggie. Big hugs to you and LynneC. Lynne, I hope you are bearing up okay.

Chooster, Im so sorry to hear about your DH's redundancy. Fingers crossed he can get something else before the time comes. Wow, talk about timing!

Welcome to all the newbies too!

Well yesterday we started decorating the spare room! woohooo...of course I didnt realise the amount of crud we had in there, so now I have the other room packed to the roof with it all! grrrr....

I managed to do some painting and DH did the ceiling! Papering today! That should be fun! But at least DH won't be hung over today

My bump is really sticking out now and I shocked every time I look down! Sometimes I catch a glimpse of my profile and have a little smile to myself

I weighed myself and I have put on 1.5 stone. I felt that it was a lot for 24 weeks but I was really tiny when I started so maybe that has something to do with it. Who knows, and really not much I can do about it now! Or maybe it was all the damn bacon I kept eating lol....

Well, I hope you all have a great Easter doing what your doing. Has anyone else been thinking 'this time next year, the little one will be here' and wondering what it looks like? Or is it just me?

Big hugs to all and not long to go now

JennySpringster · 07/04/2007 08:39

Happy Easter everybody.

Spent yesterday with pil at the red squirrel reserve and dd was fascinated. Hope the weather stays ok for everybody.

Regarding weight I really don't want to know. I know I've put on loads more than last time and it's going on my hips thighs and bum.... Was going to loose that last bit I put on last time when I finished breastfeeding dd, but that only happened 3 weeks ago. Never mind. I'm sure running around after 2 will help.

auntymandy · 07/04/2007 08:54

morning all.
hope you are all feeling well. Cant believe the time is flying by so quickly.
I have 11 weeks to go and have not even thought about getting stuff together for the little arrival!!
I dont feel as though I have been pregnant long enough!!
Keep wondering why I am so huge and breathless!!!

Miaou · 07/04/2007 08:59

Hi folks! I've been really busy this week as the dds have been off school for the holidays. We have been out lots for picnics and walks and meeting up with friends and I'm afraid I overdid things - by yesterday I felt awful. Dh told me off! I am not very good at listening to my body and easing off when I feel tired, I just try to carry on as normal - I'm my own worst enemy! Anyway, I did absolutely nothing yesterday except play with ds and knit, and I feel a lot better now, but am having to face facts that I will have to slow down a bit - grr.

We live near a large estate (ie landowning estate, not housing one!) and the owners have a big egg-hunt for all the local kids in their rather splendid gardens - so we shall be going there on Sunday - hope it stays fine!

I should have had a midwife appointment this week but I didn't chase her - I get fed up of always having to call her and say, "are you coming to see me this week?" - so I didn't bother! I guess I ought to call her on Tuesday though . Apart from checking my urine she doesn't really do anything to reassure me anyway - I don't rate her at all, I'm afraid!

auntymandy · 07/04/2007 09:04

the midwife comes to you?!!!
I like listening to the heart beat. my midwife listens for a whole minute and its my favourite minute ever!!
Are we suppossed to be slowing down?!!
With 5 children already and a husband that works long hours..how do I do that?!!
DH is off for a couple of weeks so might get a bit of a rest, although I feel guilty just sitting and he huffs if I am on pc.
He is in bed just now!

emmyb · 07/04/2007 09:52

Myfairone iwas awake around 5.00 too i was thinking of coming on to talk I should have done cos at least you would be here to chat to!

My back woke me up it was killing me thats the second night in a row, so it looks like it will be the same for the rest of the time. i'm not sure how to position my cushions to relieve it. I will try out different positions tonight.

Well the childminder problem we had is kind of resolved. we will have to use a lot of savings to pay her what she needs. we looked into nursery etc. if she got another job and we would be a lot worse off than if we paid her full for 6 months, and we love her shes like part of the family so I feel a lot happier now even though we will be stuggling money wise more than I envisaged. Well its only money eh??!!

Chooster sorry to hear about DH I hope you get the situation resolved, if only we were all rich!

pulapula · 07/04/2007 11:42

EmmyB,

I was really surprised that your childminder was demanding full pay even though you didn't need her, but if you would rather keep her than run the risk of her finding another child to look after, then I guess it makes sense. All I would say is that if you are paying her full, you should still make the most of her doing cleaning and looking after your DD when you need a rest or want to spend some special time with the baby.

My DD will stay in nursery 2 days a week (I tried to increase it to 3 days but they were full!) as it would be very tiring with a new baby and a toddler full-time, and I feel that the baby should get to go to baby groups/baby-signing/swimming etc just like my DD did.

We have decided not to have a nursery at home, so am relieved I don't need to worry about decorating. We have 5 bedrooms, but only 2 on the middle floor, currently ours and DD, so will put baby in with DD towards the end of the year. However, if they end up disturbing each other, then I guess we will have to reconsider! There was only 12 months(!) between me and my older sister and my mum said my sister would bump her cot over to mine so she could poke me/wake me up!

farfaraway · 07/04/2007 12:48

Justaboutmanaging- hope you and LO are ok ((((( ))))) you must have been terrified. How come you have to wait until Tuesday to be scanned? (bank holiday?). Hope the next few days fly past because it's awful having to wait. How are you feeling? IF you have had PROM (premature rupture of membranes) and are leaking fluid then there are a number of ladies who have gone through this / going through this on the Bliss (premature baby society) messageboard- www.blissmessageboard.org.uk/index.php under the Pregnancy board. I really, really hope though that all is absolutely as it should be. Will be thinking of you lots. Let us know when you can how your are.

Littlepiggie- sorry to hear about your nan (((( ))))
LynneC- really hope you are ok, thinking of you

Chooster- sorry to hear about DH's redundancy, that really sucks especially with the timing. I hope he will be able to find more work easily.

Miaou- that's rubbish of you midwife!! Mine comes out to see me too, but is as regular as clockwork (at least appears when she's meant to!) although sometimes it's at 10am, sometimes 1pm which can be a little annoying! Mine is being v thorough each time too- BP, urine, feel where the baby is & listen to heartbeat etc. I would maybe have a little word to her next time you see her! It's a shame midwives seem to vary so much in the care they offer. Hope you manage to rest a little & enjoy the egg hunt tomorrow!

All seems well here, although DS is sleeping really badly so we're all a bit knackered. Just finally persauded him to have a nap now (he's dropping his daytime sleeps but is grumpy without one!) so thought I'd come on here before tackling some oh so exciting housework!

Have a great easter everyone & take care of those ever expanding bumps!

justbeme · 07/04/2007 18:02

Hi everyone -
