Happy Monday all............

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi Pebble. I'm really sorry to hear about the grandparents. Would be very sad if they didn't bother to respond. Unless they've moved?

Glad you're feeling a bit better though. That fainting feeling is horrible.

I was thinking about the Infinity and so was JucyLucy. I think JL is going to try it out this week. I decided against it as you have to take the seat off to fold it - just as with the Bugaboo and iCandy. If that doesn't bother you, then it certainly looks like good value. I think Kiddicare do them for around the same price as your eBay shop, by the way. You could check so you don't feel pressured into buying one straight away. DId you decide against that other one you saw on ebay then?

twelveyeargap · 30/01/2007 11:43

Megg - is that 9lbs since the start of your pregnancy? Doesn't sound like a lot - had you been warned not to put on much.

I must have gained twice that by now!

ShowOfHands · 30/01/2007 11:45

Well, it's lovely to see you and I'm glad all is going well. Could the weight you're putting on be water? My Mum put on a whopping 70 pounds when pregnant with me, was told I was going to be a heifer and I was only 5lb although she was enormous. When her waters went she lost 16lb! And was an 8 stone size 8 within 4 months. I am eternally grateful that my midwife is anti-scales. Exact phrase to me on booking in 'och no dearie, we're not worried about weight gain'. I love her, I officially love her. No idea how much I weigh and would probably have a small coronary if I found out.

I don't think it's possible to keep up with this thread- nor would you want to if you saw some of the content from last week! Some of us have pics on our profiles though if you fancy a nose...

Still no idea what a KK tastes like. I must be missing out. Are they as nice as gingerbread?

ShowOfHands · 30/01/2007 11:47

Pebble, hi- long time no see. Glad you're feeling a little better. Very surprised about the grandparents when a health issue's involved. Dizziness is a pain in the neck too. I had about 4 weeks of the world spinning- people pay vast amounts for a chemical replication of it, however I despised it and spent a lot of time lying on the ground and holding on until it stopped.

"The healthy rate of weight gain should be:

4 pounds during the first trimester. If underweight, add 1 pound. If overweight, subtract 1 pound.
1 pound per week thereafter. Add ¼ pound if underweight. Subtract ¼ pound if overweight.
During the last month, it's normal to gain less even though baby is still gaining. Average weight gain is 1-2 pounds, although that can vary. Most women gain weight during the second trimester, which coincides with the period of most rapid weight gain of baby (from 1 ounce to 2 pounds). It's not abnormal to bounce up 5 to 10 pounds quickly between 15 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. Most babies gain 90 percent of their weight after the fifth month, and 50 percent of their weight in the last two months. Some women gain 8 to 10 pounds during the early weeks of pregnancy due to fluid retention; other women actually lose weight because of nausea and diminished appetite."

9lb is on the small side really. I should have put on over a stone by now according to everything I can find on the net.

You have my sympathies Megg- just been referred to obstetric physio due to a very bad back- all caused by pregnancy. Got a permanent limp and having to sleep on the floor at the moment (more comfy but I can't get up without help). Very sore and I'm hoping it will be easily fixed.

I was wondering if you'd left out a 2 and it was 29lbs you'd put on... No, 9lbs definitely isn't much.

Feel really sorry for you with the bad back, but the "sharp intakes of breath" don't help at all. It sounds like you're being very good indeed.

(DH has banned Twixes from our house as I'm turning into such a porker. )

Yep you are, Megg! Have just sent that to DH to put his mind at ease. Granted I shouldn't be eating multiple Twixes, (Index - Indeces, Twix - Twices? ) but I'm only a few pounds ahead of what I should be, when you do the "lesser" gains for being overweight to begin with. Would be bang "on track" had I not been porky beforehand.

If I cut out most of the choccies and the pastries for brekki, I don't think I have too much to worry about.

Thanks SOH!

D'oh, shouldn't have mentioned Twix. Tsk. Really want one now.

Juicylucytoo · 30/01/2007 12:28

Megglevacche - I would think it's really hard to gain less than 10lbs at nearly 6mths. Sounds like mission impossible to me anyway. Poor you. Your back problem sounds awful.

Pebble - I intend to check out the icandy and Infinity this w/e if I can find them. I'm putting a shortlist together so DH only has one or two to choose from. Otherwise I think he'll get frustrated. Will let you know what I think next week.

twelveyeargap · 30/01/2007 12:33

They have the iCandy in a shop in Crouch End called Rub-a-Dub-Dub. They also do Mountain Buggies there.

Crouch End isn't too far from you is it?

Pebblemum · 30/01/2007 12:33

TYG I still really like my original pram choice but in a way i think £350+ is a lot of money to spend when im not planning on having any more children also i will need to buy a cheap pushchair for when we go away in October. Im now on the lookout for something similar but cheaper. When i saw the Icoo I just thought the price sounded good, for some reason i expected them to cost a lot more. Probably wont buy it as it is so different to the one i wanted, doesnt hurt to look around though.

My Mil found a Chicco Cortina on Ebay which is a similar style to the one i want but a lot cheaper (about £100 to buy)but they only had it in one colour and it was horrible. As dh keeps saying we have plenty of time but with both ds's i knew what pram i wanted from the start, this time i seem to be more fussy . Im trying to convince dh to take me pram testing but hes not taking much notice at the moment

My baby has not stopped moving today, ds2 even felt a slight kick this morning, its noice but at the same time its strange. I think maybe it has hiccups

twelveyeargap · 30/01/2007 12:34

Come to think of it, are you sure the "sharp intake of breath" wasn't, "My, my, she's not putting on much weight is she?"

twelveyeargap · 30/01/2007 12:39

Pebble, what's the resale on your pram of choice like? Obv doesn't mean you have the money "right now", but it can justify a big expense if you know you can sell on ebay in 18 mths for a good price.

Oh, I forgot to say, DH played a "game" with the baby last night. He had his ear to my tummy and was talking to her. I said to give my belly a poke to see if she was awake. He started doing these regular taps and every single time he did it, she responded with a kick in the same place. It was so funny. We kept thinking it was a fluke, but he did it over and over to test it out. I was laughing so much by the end. Poor baby probably just wanted to be left alone and DH was busy telling her how clever she is.

Juicylucytoo · 30/01/2007 12:47

TYG - I have one in my drawer I'm willing to share with you
Chocolate really is my downfall. Appetite is relatively normal apart from that. I've gone from never eating it (pre-pg) because of the weight gain potential, to eating at least one bar a day every day . You can imagine what I was like in Belgium!

Lwatkins · 30/01/2007 12:53

Afternoon all
All this talk of weight gain - bahhh! I think i've been quite lucky cause i don't seem to have put any on really. It's all up front on my bump, so i think i still look thin - just with a baby bump! And i haven't put any weight on my bum or thighs etc, just wait mind - mother nature will have her revenge soon enough. She'll send me a fleet of strentchmarks or something, but thats something i haven't got either. Mind the spd makes up for all that lol! I have bad backache as well, this isn't helped by the fact i have bad posture as well though. Not looking forward to getting bigger cause with the spd and bachache i'll be feckin crippled
Has anybodys belly buttons popped out yet? Mine hasn't but where my tummy is getting bigger my bb is pushing it's way out gradually. I never used to be able to touch the back of it, it was like a big black pit that never ended, whereas now i can touch the back of it easily. I don't want it to pop out, it looks vile when it happens lol!
Have just finished lunch, veggie pie and chips - twas very good and am now full up mind i left room for some mint chocolate chip ice-cream. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!

largeginandtonic · 30/01/2007 13:17

Lwatkins.....shhhhhhh, no weight gain?! I was the same with the twins, i looked comical. Huge bump tiny body, very silly. I was smaller aftre i had them than i have ever been. With dd i was the heaviest i have ever been, and took ages to lose it all, she gave me stretch marks too. Its all an age thing, when i hit 25 it was all down hill....[evvy]

SOH KK's are heaven, there is nooooo comparison to gingerbread. They do gingerbread KK's in the States though, best of both worlds!

Meggel, so nice to hear from you, glad you are ok.

TYG i have a twix in the kitchen, just a single bar though, not sure what the point of that is......

Ive told you SOH come here to have the baby, we wont need to bother with a midwife sure we will manage between us I can guarantee no scary chickens but plenty of scary children!

twelveyeargap · 30/01/2007 13:23

A single Twick (as DH calls them) is for those people who actually have some self control and can just eat one. I, on the other hand, buy a value pack of 12 single bars and eat every bar in under three sittings.

ShowOfHands · 30/01/2007 13:29

Actually I won't need a birthing pool at yours will I LG&T, I'll just hop into the sea...

Problems (apart from scary chickens- they watch you they do) with homebirth at current address are:

Three storey and birth pool would have to go on ground floor in the dining room due to weight of water.

Dining room has no heating.

Dining room is junk room.

Bathrooms are at the very top of house, up two flights of stairs.

An amubulance cannot get down our driveway in an emergency.

So, LG&T I'll be there from early May-ish and we'll do it together. I'm hoping your years of experience and infinite wisdom are all I need.

twelveyeargap · 30/01/2007 14:18

Hmm. Can't get round the ambulance problem. Damn. Was going to say that it won't be that cold in May so you might not need heating. Otherwise those La Bassine inflatable pools don't hold too much water and are generally suitable for most floors. they're about the weight of 12 people standing so you just put them in a corner, near the joists. Tsk. Perhaps hte mumsnet collective could dig you out a new driveway??

largeginandtonic · 30/01/2007 14:37

Ambulance dont be silly as if.....! All will be smooth and pain free See you in may xx

Right am off now, not sure whaen i will be back! Will send FSF text messages to keep up to date with you all. Am going to miss you all, have a lump in my throat god damn it
bye xxxxxx

twelveyeargap · 30/01/2007 14:43

BYE LOVELY! Have a wonderful time. You deserve a good rest. x

SOH - Just tell the ambulance controler to send some strong men so they can carry you, sedan-chair style, down the drive. NOT, that you'll need an ambulance of course, as LG&T says.
