shansterTry not to worry, (easier said than done!) Baby and you are the priorities just now, so, is there anyway you can take a step back, let someone else figure out your cover? Also, don't want to alarm you, but do you realise you're considered full term at 38 weeks? Not to say that's when it'll happen, but there's a 4 week window between 38-42 weeks. So, bargaining on working till 41 weeks might not be really realistic. Hope your little wriggler wriggles out the cord! Good luck Flowers

Dileas29 · 09/07/2016 06:45

shanster that sounds awfully stressful with work, I really hope you can get something sorted soon or that someone else you can offload onto so it's not your worry anymore. Big hugs.
The baby cord will hopefully resolve itself and now you are aware you can keep an extra eye on movement, hope this week flies in for you for the next scan Flowers

Thanks for asking fizzy and thanks for all the water birth clothing ideas!
MW appointment yesterday and baby still back to back so all these spinning exercises have made no difference unfortunately! Birthing ball while watching OITNB will need to increase I suppose! Either that or midwife said things can change up till labour, baby still not engaged so midwife also said this can be the same for second baby and can occur in labour. I mentioned the "fanny daggers" which I'm experiencing (in the nicest possible description) and she didn't seem surprised, but also no explanation either. My urine came back to say I'm dehydrated so must must remember to drink more...maybe subconsciously drinking less as going to the toilet is a pain in the ass every 30 minutes! Apart from that all seems okay and she doesn't want to see me for another 3 weeks which will take me to 39 weeks...seems a long time to go without advice and check up but there you go!

Hope all you ladies have a relaxing weekend and are resting up. Having an afternoon "baby" tea with some friends today which will be nice. Any actual baby showers happening or talk of with you guys?

Daytona79 · 09/07/2016 06:46

Shanter yeah bump been measuring fine when MW been doing it with tape

I've a scan today so hopefully it will let me know what's going on.

Try not to stress about cord, that's good they are keeping a eye on you. Hopefully he sorts it out himself soon xx

LotsOfDots · 09/07/2016 07:51

That sounds stressful shanster I think you have said before that your other children were all late, so maybe this one is going to buck the trend? Or maybe you'll be waiting at 41 weeks again. It would be good if they had a definite 'delivery slot' like online shopping. Mind you given the interesting substitutions I've had in the past, perhaps that wouldn't be so good! You were planning some work trips as well weren't you? I think maybe your baby is trying to tell you to get your plans in order...

daytona hope your scan goes well today. I have no idea how much weight I have put on, I have stayed firmly away from the scales!

LotsOfDots · 09/07/2016 07:55

dileas afternoon baby tea sounds lovely. The closest in going to get to that is taking my 2 girls for a children's afternoon tea during the school holidays - possibly next weekend. Have to find something nice to do to make up for not going to my cousin's wedding - they were so excited. I've not done a baby shower for my previous pregnancies and won't be this time. I think I am too paranoid to celebrate anything until baby is safely here!

Laineypopps · 09/07/2016 09:25

Groan, been up all night with DS who woke with a sore penis. It was double size it should be! Doc called and came out at 4am. He has a wee infection called balantitis which is very common in young boys. No sleep for me! DH also came in a bit tipsy after being out with his pal. Going to have the 'that's it, no more drink' chat today.

shanster that sounds so stressful lovely! I really hope your baby acrobat untangles soon. I've heard and read that fabby daggers can be the baby's head engaging - unfortunately with a second pregnant baby can pop in and out of pelvis until delivery so more fanny daggers for me. Yey! Confused please just look after yourself and don't overdo it. Work will be there when you are not. 😘

daytona I think I might have put on your weight as well as mine!! I've put on 2 stone and still have 4 weeks to go. I'm only 5'2'' so really feeling it. Just remember, baby will take everything he or she needs from you so please try not to worry and revel in the fave you'll have nowt to lose when baby arrives! 😘

*dileas' I have had 2 surprise showers - one organised by my lovely friends and the other by my fab workmates. I am a bit superstitious about celebrating before baby is here and feel quite strongly about this so there were no pressies (which people had wonderfully considered my feelings!) just everyone getting together, having fun and eating. They were lovely! Totally surprised both times so I am sure this baby is messing with my radar!! 😘

OwlinaTree · 09/07/2016 09:36

Hi all, lots happening on this new thread. Shanster sorry I have no wisdom, but surely as long as the cord is not crushed or knotted the blood flow will still reach the baby? Hope you can pass some work pressure on soon. I'm finishing in 2 weeks and I'm putting myself under so much pressure to get everything perfect for handover, I hate the idea of others thinking I've left a mess, so I do sympathise. We must put our health first though and the babies too.

I had another scan Wednesday, baby still measuring small but consultants etc happy now that it is growing along the 10thish centile, so not as concerned. I've got to go back in 2 weeks for another scan to keep an eye.

I've no idea about the weight Daytona, 9lb doesn't seem like much, but everybody is different. If your midwife is OK about it i wouldn't worry. Are you very slim when not pg or are you a bit bigger? I've no idea how much i have gained, I'm a bit funny about my weight so it's better for me not to know.

I'm so tired all the time at the mo. Midwife had given me iron tablets I've not started taking, if i do do you think they will help? They always give me an upset tummy, so I'm a bit reluctant tbh.

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 09/07/2016 10:36

owlina I'm on iron too, I asked for liquid supplements as I find it a bit easier on the tum as long as I take one prune a day as well! Maybe ask to try that instead? It's rubbish but I do think they are worth taking it has made a difference to my tiredness and it will also be good for after delivery incase of blood loss etc.

Sophia1984 · 09/07/2016 10:38

Sorry to hear that your little one is getting himself into trouble Shanster. I was born with my cord around my neck and here I am 32 years later. I think it's one of those things that sounds (understandably) really scary but is quite common. It's great that they have spotted it and that they are keeping a close eye on you and him.

I feel your stress about work too - one of my freelance staff is stepping up to cover my role but only PT and then with two other freelancers and it all just feels really vague - she's getting no support from senior management so we both feel a bit lost. But you and baby's health absolutely has to be your priority. Like Suziesome said, baby could actually arrive any day, and your employer would just have to deal with it. I think full term is even earlier - 37 weeks! I've put my maternity leave to start at 40 weeks, but am hoping to have everything major done by 38 weeks in case he arrives earlier than due date. I know this can be difficult depending on what your job is.

Daytona My midwife hasn't even weighed me since booking in. I don't feel like I've put on any weight at all, and people keep commenting on how little and slim I am (I know this is normally a nice thing to day but it makes you paranoid when you're pregnant!). I had to go for a growth scan as bump wasn't growing, but baby is spot on 50th percentile. Hope scan goes well.

I've had my baby shower already, which was lovely but overwhelming. Going over to my parents' with my sister tonight - will probably be last time hanging out without a small person in tow! Am planning to get a doll out (my mum still has mine!) and walk around with it so the dog gets used to it! He's rather large and excitable so am a bit worried..

Christinedonna · 09/07/2016 10:47

I think being born with the cord round your neck is a lot more common than people think! I've watched every birth video possible on the Internet and you'd be surprised at how the routine seems to be "here's the head" (removes cord from around the neck without saying anything) some babies just like to play with them and get a bit tangled! Anyone would but there's no need to worry, they're keeping an eye on you, you're keeping an eye on baby..you'll both be fine!
I woke up this morning, stood up and thought, where is she?! My bump has drastically shrunk and I'm feeling a lot of pressure very low down so I think she's moved! She's always been head down anyway but I think maybe shes dropped/engaged?

Fizzyboo · 09/07/2016 12:17

Ahhh thankyou Lainey! It was very scary at the 20 week scan being the one thats taken aside and told something was wrong, but they didn't know what... but then I had to woman the hell up, and play the hand I was dealt. Still frustrating and worrying not having more conclusive answers yet, but we know a hell of a lot more than we did. We both think she's a tough cookie in there whatever ;)

Dileas I've just ordered a birthing ball and only 3 eps into this series of OITNB so I think i'll be joining you in the spinning babies round club using that method!! Laying a kitchen floor didnt help!

Shanster Don't be too stressed about the cord, likewise, my sister was born with the cord around her neck... The main thing is they are monitoring it, which means they are totally on it and not going to miss it.

Sophia1984 · 09/07/2016 12:31

How funny Christina - I woke up with what felt like a flat stomach too! The other day my belly button actually inverted back to an 'innie'! Met up with 3 of my NCT ladies yesterday and the difference between our bump sizes and shapes was amazing!

Christinedonna · 09/07/2016 12:33

Yesterday I was looking at my belly button and it was a hair width away from the inside being dead inline with my belly, so not an outie but almost a "flattie"? If you get what I mean? Today it's back in! I just sent OH a belly picture and he said "where's she gone???"

Shanster · 09/07/2016 13:32

Thanks ladies, I know its common for babies to be born with the cord around their necks. Apparently it happens to a lot of babies as they turn in the birth canal. The midwife told me they don't bother telling mums if they spot a cord around the neck on an ultrasound ....as mums worry and its normally fine, but if the baby has gotten wrapped up in the cord they have to keep an eye as they can get into distress in the womb.

I think its the universe telling me to slow down and get ready for this baby. To be honest, this pregnancy was a big surprise and I think i've been trying to convince everyone (including myself) that its not a big deal, I can cope with one more and still do everything I do today, that nobody will be inconvenienced. Particularly work wise I have not wanted to cause a fuss, but now I realise that I have to just acknowledge that not everything is within my control!

Daytona79 · 09/07/2016 15:53

Had my scan

Baby was in perfect position head down so that's a relief

No extra fluid around him so less likely to have space to move, again I'm pleased about that

MW checking me on Wednesday again to check position

All measurements where right bang on 50% for size wise.

So they said the fact I've only put on 9lb is absolutely fine as I'm 5ft 10 and had BMI of 27 prior to pregnacy so classed as overweight so ideally I should only put on 1 stone max anyway

So I feel a lot calmer now now I only need to worry about husband not home for birth on time Shock he arriving back on due date so hoping baby stays put till then

I asked them to check blood flow to placenta too which they do with some coloured dobbler thing to just reassure me all was well, so they did that too and everything was looking good

Ah I can relax now

I also posted off my strep B tests today as I'm now 36 weeks

My belly button sticks out now it's been totally pushed wrong way, it looks horrible 🙈

Laineypopps · 09/07/2016 17:50

Fabulous news from your scan, Daytona so glad you got a bit of reassurance. You are bang on for weight gain for your height then! Smashing!! I haven't put much on anywhere else apart from bump. I'm only 5'2" and had a BMI of 21 before falling pregnant but was a very, very regular gum bunny. Used to do up to 15 classes a week. Early on in preg I was told to stop any strenuous exercise as I was passing out (vasovagal episodes) frequently and had extremely low bp. (89/49) This has continued through pregnancy so no gym for me. Feel like I am so much 'softer' and hoping I can tone up after baby is here.
Make easy ordered t25 programme and hoping to do an early morning boot camp to help. Will see how that goes with a 5yo and a newborn!!

lilygirl81 · 09/07/2016 20:33

Hi all

I got logged off and couldn't remember my password!

So much has been going on in the thread, these last few weeks seem to be taking their toll.

At my scan on Tuesday they found that my baby's growth has slowed down a bit, not enough to worry, but getting another scan on Tuesday to see how it's progressing. Added to my chronic pain and mobility getting worse, they are talking about moving my section forward, so may realistically have a baby in about 8 or 9 days!!!! Not sure if I am excited or terrified.

Christinedonna · 09/07/2016 22:07

I've been eagerly anticipating your return lily! So glad you're well.. It sounds like baby got bored of being in there a long time ago. Be excited!

Fizzyboo · 10/07/2016 09:12

So, I'm really wondering about baby clothes. I have bought tons of stuff Blush but what I'm asking really, is what's good to dress a summer baby in?
Will she want the full arms and leg sleep suits on or will it be too hot for them? Totally bemused and confused!

lilygirl81 · 10/07/2016 10:04

Fizzy I've been dressing my niece a bit recently, and have honestly found it fine to put her in little outfits. Babygros are definitely the easy choice, and trying to get socks to stay on is a nightmare (I've bought some 'sock-ons' from Amazon as they really help). The biggest issue is when the outfits get covered in sick, poop or pee, which has happened 3 or 4 times in one day with her!!!

This is most of our wardrobe, I've got vests and more sleep suits etc in a drawer, but hoping to get her in these fairly quickly.

Has anyone planned out their coming home outfits? I have a long white gown that my mum dressed me in coming home, so planning to put her in that, with a baby shawl one of my grandmothers gave my mum when either my sister or I was born, and I've just got a lovely nursing maxi dress for me, to cover up the TED stockings!!

lilygirl81 · 10/07/2016 10:07

Fizzy just realised I totally misread your question! I think layers are the way to go, a sleeveless or short sleeve vest, with a baby gro or outfit over that, and a cardigan if it has short sleeves, or leggings if legs would be bare. I am in the frozen north though, so might be different if temperatures are high.

Forgot to add my picture to my last post!!

Longtimelistener · 10/07/2016 11:52

I've been wondering about clothes too, as DS1 was a March baby. I think someone else on here said it depends what kind of baby you get - they're not great at controlling their body temperature, so might be really cold in the height of summer or vice versa. So, like Lily says, I guess layers is the way to go..

Daytona79 · 10/07/2016 15:44

God I'm struggling today , feel really weak and sick, lots of bump pains going on too. I just want this to be over now

Re - going home

I have a little baby grow from mothercare the only thing I bought for baby as I have a wardrobe stuffed full of hardly worn baby clothes from my toddler so literally needed nothing for him. Washed them all then spent 8 hours ironing all the clothes from 0-12 months of stored in vacum bags in loft from my toddler. So the baby nursery is packed with clothes

You will be amazed at the amount of gifts you get when baby comes along, so I'd recommend not buying heaps of stuff.

We got a memory teddy made for toddler from his hospital outfit, the shirt my husband was wearing when he held him for first time at hospital and some of my wedding dress

I will do the same for this baby too.

MrsPMT23 · 10/07/2016 17:49

Daytona feeling the same today. Lots of fanny daggers and pressure in my bum. My ankles look like elephant hooves and I'm so hormonal I just cried at your memory teddy - such a lovely idea. DH has had enough of me and gone to mow the grass!

Daytona79 · 10/07/2016 17:59

This is him

Robert Bear for my wee Robert when he is older.

I've just had to ring doctors as got a high temp now so thought I'd better check, waiting on them calling back
