New thread - the one where we stop being pregnant and become new mamas! So close to the end. Exciting!

Hi all,

Just a quick placemarking. Can't believe this is probably the final pregnancy thread! I know I'm v quiet on here but you guys have all got me through this since December.
Right my nightly headache is approaching so I'm off to bed. Night all!

Jeezypeepers · 06/07/2016 19:28

Dileas and Glencoco I've been having bother with high blood pressure and a lot of pain so my obstetrician has booked me in for an early delivery at 37 weeks. Essentially it means an early induction attempt but a lot of early inductions fail to progress and so result in a section; so I won't know the mode of delivery until it happens unfortunately. It changed my EDD from 11th August to 22/23rd July so quite a jump - feeling very unprepared! Blush. I go from being desperate to get him out to unbelievably worried that he'll have complications from being an early term baby...but thankfully I'm delivering at the same hospital I'm based at and have known and worked with my obstetrician for years and trust him implicitly...so think if he's happy to get to 37 weeks then it must be ok.

Sophie I know it's easy for us to say but please try not to worry about bump measurements; they can be incredibly inaccurate sometimes. Especially in late pregnancy when baby is engaging and we are all (sorry!) a bit fatter and full of fluid than we should be! It can make it really hard to properly measure the uterus as well as try and get an accurate idea of the baby inside it; and certainly from a medical perspective we don't always put much stock on those numbers as a scan can give so much more information. Flowers

MrsZumbaDancer · 06/07/2016 20:50

I measured bang on in my first pregnancy with my midwife, admitted to hospital for a different reason at 36 and measured really small but she said that everyone measure slightly differently/I wasn't scanned or anything.
M bump changes depending on what position baby is in.. Pretty sure it's transverse atm..

Lou2711 · 06/07/2016 21:27

Place marking also!

Had my 34w growth scan, babes is all fine and they predicted she weighs about 5 pound 4, and predicted her birth weight to be about 7 pound 6, but won't hold my breath. Hmm
Can't believe it's getting so close now, I really want to meet her but I still have some organising to do before I'm fully ready!
Can't even think what I need to sort!

Laineypopps · 06/07/2016 22:33

Hi everyone, hope you have all had a nice day today. Weather here is rubbish and keeping a 5yo entertained after a week of wet weather is proving a challenge!

Sophie I have been having 4 weekly scans as apparently I make small babies. My bump is measuring small but baby is bang on 48th centile for my height. It's all subjective and tiny fluctuations - even the way the baby is lying - can change the estimate. As for the ambulance, how far away from the hospital are you? Not knowingly the ins and outs of your situation, I'd be inclined to follow her advice as if any special circumstances were to arise, you are in a sterile environment with trained professionals rather than the back of a taxi.

Belager hope your head is better soon.

Jeezy that is my EDD too! Oh my goodness it makes it feel real when you say you will be induced this month! Really hope it all goes to plan and the induction works. Baby will be just fine and it's so exciting you will meet him so soon!

Had my first hypnobirthing class tonight! It was fab. I really got into The Secret over the last year and, following quite a challenging birth experience with my DS, I decided to do everything I could to take control of this labour and birth experience. It really was so eye opening! Now armed with my book and CD and doing all manner of relaxation and positive visualisation. 😃🌟👍🏻

Shanster · 07/07/2016 00:52

Sophia try not to worry, and remember that scans can be off by up to 20% too. I was induced with my first because they said she was already close to 9lbs at 40+5 and she came out at 7lbs 8oz.....after several failed induction attempts then a fast labour. I have a growth scan on Friday because I'm measuring big. In my case it might mean an induction before or on my due date, which I really would prefer to avoid.

Sloth and MrsPMT23 - I have this 3rd trimester nausea too, what in the world? Never had this with my other two. Hope you feel better

GlenCoco and Fizzyboo you're not wrong about the system here, the doctors are in charge and there isn't much chance I can persuade them to leave me to go into labour naturally. My argument will be that I delivered a 10lb boy with no problems last time around, and they should just let me do the same this time. The costs are incredible compared to my other two - the first was a $200 insurance deductible for everything, my second was $500...fast forward 5 years and now its rare for medical insurance to cover anything before we're $6000 out of pocket. We budget for it (with kids you really have to) but its a huge expense...and I'd happy skip back home to the NHS if it were an option.

Anyone travelling in the last couple of weeks? I just found out I need to be at a conference the first week of August (I'll be 36 weeks) and I have another client trip to do at 35 weeks. They are short flights, but my DH is raising his eyebrows at me (probably more because he'll be alone with 2 kids for 5 nights).

I'm so not ready for this baby, desperately trying to get painters in to paint the house before he arrives, his bedroom is sitting empty other than a bouncy chair and a cot. Must grab some nappies on my next trip to costco!!

Sophia1984 · 07/07/2016 06:46

Shanster I think it completely depends how you are feeling personally, and you will have a better idea based on your last pregnancy. I thought I would be ok to go and see Beyonce at 34 weeks and boy was I wrong! (Mum went instead while I lay on sofa complaning about my sore back) I'm 36 weeks now, and getting the bus is a challenge, but some people are still running 5k races happily at 40 weeks :) I'd check with your doctor too - I'd feel a bit uneasy about being miles away from my main care at that stage I think.

LotsOfDots · 07/07/2016 08:55

shanster I was supposed to be going to my cousin's wedding in 10 days at 37+4 which I wasn't too concerned about, but a combination of baby lying transverse/oblique at last appointment (got my 36 week one this morning and pretty sure still not head down) and my Mum suddenly freaking out about me travelling to the wedding (it's Hampshire, I'm in Central Scotland) we have decided not to go. My DDs are disappointed, haven't told bride yet, will do so this evening after MW appointment. Feel really bad for cancelling so close to the date - hope she can 'upgrade' a few friends maybe, I don't know if she is having evening guests.

I have 3.5 days left at work. Can't wait. Although it is already school holidays here so need to find some activities to keep the other two entertained that don't involve walking miles or travelling too far...

I don't think we get a pre birth HV visit in my health board. I'll have a different one this time to the last two, as we have moved and she has retired. She was very nice, but the only time I ever asked for advice was when I was trying to wean DD1 onto bottles when returning to work at 8 months as she was a bottle refuser. The HV told me to put mustard on my nipples so she wouldn't breast feed. Erm, no. (Nuk bottles with latex tears worked eventually, in case anyone has the same problem!)

LotsOfDots · 07/07/2016 08:56

Oh and I got new fabric for my bugaboo for this baby and have just put it back into carrycot mode, it looks so nice and new!

Basketofwool · 07/07/2016 09:59

I'm in a dilemma about whether to go and visit family next week for three days. It'll be my first week of mat leave, I'll be 37+4. The live 150 miles away - 3 hours by train. I thought it would be nice to go and relax and spend time with them but now I'm feeling uncomfortable about being so far from home and DH at that time, and also worried baby will be born before I have a proper chance to spend time at home and get jobs done/relax!! However I will feel soooo guilty if I cancel! Especially if I then go overdue. Arrggh.

What would you guys do?

Laineypopps · 07/07/2016 10:07

shanster is it to do with the doctors financially benefitting from lots of medical procedures and tests rather than the 'cheaper' option of a natural birth? Really hope that it goes your way.

Christinedonna · 07/07/2016 11:22

I do love a new thread! It's crazy how the name is always appropriate at the time then in a few weeks I see it and it's like "we've progressed so much since then!" Soon we'll look back at this and think "God that was before I had him/her!
sophia as everyone else has said, don't worry about measurements! Babies head is so low at this point that they can never be accurate. Aslong as baby is still in there and wriggling about, you'll be fine!
I'm fully aware I use too many exclamation marks and by this point I no longer do anything to prevent it, it makes me seem enthusiastic so can't be bad!
My sister has been trying for her second baby for around 6 months now and last week she told me she's pregnant! How exciting, il have mine before she announces it to everyone as it's still very early days (around 5 weeks I believe) but my nephew, her son desperately wants a little brother and sister and we talk a lot about "when mummy has another baby" and he can't wait! He's using mine as practice apparently, and if he's good with her, mummy will give him another baby. Timing works out really well as mines due on the 11th August and nephews birthday is on 23rd, that's when he's going to get his "IM GOING TO BE A BIG BROTHER" tshirt and be told..so it looks like it's because he's been such a good cousin that he's getting one. I'm rambling.
I have a bit of a name conundrum. We've decided on the name Alice but stuck on middle name! My great auntie has just been diagnosed with cancer and it looks like there's nothing they can do, I thought it would be nice to include her in the name, her name is Valerie. But I also really like Dorothy (happens to also be OHs grandma, but that's pure coincidence and was only reminded after I chose it) so what do I do? They won't both work together so I need to pick one. I feel like Dorothy fits better, but should I stick with family tradition and have a meaningful relates to someone name? What do you think sounds nicer?

HazzaB89 · 07/07/2016 12:21

Hello all. I haven't been on in forever so just spent a nice amount of time reading pretty much the whole of the last thread. Funnily enough I took a break to make sausage pasta bake for dinner and stopped at the point you were discussing having an antenatal HV visit. I had my daughter in October 2014 and didn't have one then, but as I was cooking I got a missed call on my mobile (mobile had been helpfully posted under the freezer, thank you DD!) from the HV explaining it was being rolled out and I was welcome to call back and book an appointment.

You are all so much more prepared than me! Although DH has finally got everything in from the garage & down from the loft. Pretty much everything up to 3 months is clean now and new items that have not faired well in storage have been purchased. I'm due on the 21st so think I'll do a morrisons delivery for the 1st that involves all of the pads and nipple cream etc and pack my bags then. Please don't come early baby!

Christine, choose the name YOU want. It'll be the name your DD has for the rest of her life. Would you have even considered your aunts name if she weren't ill?

I travelled to Brighton from Gloucestershire (roughly a 3 hour drive) when 38 weeks with DD but just made sure I had my notes with me and knew where local hospital was. If a first pregnancy and low risk I personally would travel up to the 39 week mark if I felt able. Everyone is different though and I know some women who didn't travel more than 2 hours from their hospital after 34 weeks. See how you feel nearer the time and don't feel guilty if you don't travel.

Christinedonna · 07/07/2016 13:33

there was me yesterday saying how I wont be visited by the health visitor and I've just received a letter. Really annoyed though that 1) it says "offer" "we offer to see all patients" when they've already made an appointment for me without asking when's convenient. 10am may not be early to some people but when il have a whole house to tidy after everyone going to school/work and leaving their shit out for me to sort, and get myself ready..10am is not convenient! They've also sent another letter for the same reason to my address for a lady I've never heard of and booked her an appointment at my house? Now for the mammoth task of trying to get hold of someone to fix it! Urghhhh

Christinedonna · 07/07/2016 13:34

With 5 days notice may I add.

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 07/07/2016 15:25

I just had my home check from the midwife. She's happy with everything so I just have to keep baby in until at least 25th of July when they go on call for me.
I also had a lovely relaxation session this morning at the hospital and it was great! I feel much more relaxed about dealing with labour.

sophia how was the scan? I'm just saying what everybody else did but remember it's not always accurate.

For those not sure about travelling I think you just it have to take it as you feel at the time. I am going to my parents tomorrow for the weekend but they are only 1.5hours away and I'll take my notes so I feel comfortable about. It will probably be my last overnight one though after that it will be day visits only I think.
shanster one my friends is in Texas and I can't believe the cost of pregnancy/birth. It really makes me appreciate the NHS.

I'm in Scotland too but I've not heard anything about HV yet at the moment.

hazza
I'm not quite organised yet either - still got a few bits and pieces to pick up. I'm not too worried about it though. I figure babies don't need much to start with.

Sophia1984 · 07/07/2016 15:37

Thanks for all the advice and good wishes. Just had scan and baby's measurements, fluid level and umbilical blood flow are all fine :-)

ToElleWithIt · 07/07/2016 16:25

Shanster I flew last week @35 weeks. I'd fly again on a short flight no bother if I was allowed. Consultant said it's not contraindicated and was very relaxed given that my previous pregnancy went full term. I also had insurance that would have covered any treatment needed. I'd be more concerned about the conference though. I don't know what it's like in your line of work, but I did one at about 28 weeks and found it a bit grueling even at that stage. There was lots of walking around and standing at buffet lunches / dinners / drinks. If it's more of a sitting down thing and you'll have the chance to slope off at 5pm for a night of sleep in a comfy hotel bed then I'd be more tempted!!

Glad the scan went well Sophia That's a relief.

LotsOfDots · 07/07/2016 18:10

Good news, bad news kind of MW Appontment today, MW thinks baby is now head down, but have increased in my measurements so now 41cm at 36 weeks (was measuring 2cm big at the last two appointments, so an increase in growth). I have a scan booked for tomorrow lunchtime to have a look and see what's going on, not least to see if baby is actually head down... I'm not entirely convinced! Have had to completely rearrange several things for work. Not feeling too bad about it though, as I have had barely had any time off at all for appointments or anything, and only one day off ill since getting pregnant. I did think I might make it to my last day on Tuesday though with no more complicated arrangements!

Suziesome1 · 07/07/2016 19:45

Hey everyone, sorry I've not posted in a while. I am officially out of the low placenta gang, but have now been recruited into the breech position club Confused mw 35 week check tomorrow to see if she's shifted since the scan last Friday, and then decision to be made next week if she's coming out the sunroof! Hope everyones OK, and good luck for this last wee stint! :) we meet our babies soon!!! Grin

Daytona79 · 07/07/2016 20:38

I had my 36 week MW appointment and she could not tell which way baby was, he was moving all over the place

I had already booked and paid for a private scan on Saturday and depending on what's going on they will take it from there

I feel the baby moving about constantly , I would of thought room running out by now so no idea if baby small or what.

Just wish Saturday would hurry up so we know what's going on in there

bexh83 · 07/07/2016 21:40

new thread , thank you Coco youve kept us organised!

Zumba, Dileas I cant even get our car seat back out of the isofix since I practiced putting it in, its from my SIL so will probably attempt a clean once I work it out.

Shan we were due to move to the states in December when I found out I was pregnant - looked into all the costs, it was horrific - plus the effort to seek out the right healthcare professionals, we are so lucky to have this sorted for us.

Sophia also measured small... two scans later babys on size (still a lightweight, not far off 15th percentile on my lines - but I was a small baby and big/tall adult) but at 35 wks has to have grown - Ive got bigger by the day this week. Good to see you have postive results on the measures today.

5 weeks left here, bump so so low it might drop out by accident. Hen do at the weekend...looking forward to a normal day/night out but will be shattered!

Fizzyboo · 07/07/2016 22:39

Gosh the last few days, since I laid that sodding floor, I've felt like this could all happen anytime now... Feel better from my pig out now which is good, but babe feels low and HEAVY, like she's really leaning against the exit Shock don't know if it's coz I've not been working but there seems to be lots of movement too, don't know if that's coz last MW appt she said she's back to back so I feel it more, though I've become very slow and measured like I'm trying not to spill my drink so to speak... 36 week MW appt tomorrow...

Dileas29 · 08/07/2016 07:13

fizzy got my 36 week midwife appointment today too and very intrigued to what she says re baby position and engagement as I also have that low down feeling, almost like a bubble waiting to burst will probably feel like this till 42 weeks mind you Grin.

Every time I get the notification someone has posted on this page I'm expecting someone to be the first with a birth announcement! Just had a sneak peak into the Babycentre forum and the August babies forum babies are arriving thick and fast!

Biscuitswithtea · 08/07/2016 08:30

The thought of early babies terrifies me. I am so totally ready to finish work (last day is Thurs) & then I would really benefit from at least a week of rest before this baby is even allowed to consider moving out. The landmark 37wk point is a week tomorrow. Crumbs.
Though likewise, the periodic bulgy sensation makes me nervous...!
Today I have a softplay date with ds. It will probably exhaust us both so a quiet afternoon with stickers and maybe a film will be a nice counterbalance to this morning's mayhem.
