Iona, I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Cake, I'm glad you're starting to feel a little more positive. It feels like a long hard slog at times, doesn't it?

needanewjob · 25/08/2016 17:08

So today the heartburn continued but now with the addition of stomach cramps and diarrhoea - fabulous! I rang my gp who checked my results and said I can reduce my iron tablets to once a day as my iron levels are not particularly bad and that if I still struggle to just stop taking them and make an appointment with him and he will try to prescribe something a bit gentler....I'm feeling so relieved and hoping that once a day will stop the side effects.

Fedupithink · 25/08/2016 17:44

So glad to hear those of you who were struggling are starting to feel a little more positive. It's such a huge life altering experience and a total emotional roller coaster.

Glad your scan went well Tired and hope they can help you soon Iona

I had my first "are you sure it isn't twins" today - yep; pretty sure I've had four scans! Followed quickly by another colleague saying how neat my bump is and that I haven't gained weight anywhere else (I have I think I'm just hiding it well!) people really do talk rubbish to fill the gaps sometimes.

Thunder storms scheduled for Saturday - bring it on!

FuzzyOwl · 25/08/2016 17:51

So hot and tired here.

Tired I would recommend a Perfect Prep machine.

Thanks girls I think I'm gonna get one, I've seen some on offer atm for £60 so that's not too bad, i wanted one for my daughter but at the time they were over £130 and I thought that was expensive, I thought they were still around that price so was surprised to see that they halved in price Smile

Thank you fedup I'm so relieved Smile

I feel your pain fuzzy..not an ounce of energy today not even started dinner Confused

CakeAndChocolate · 25/08/2016 19:32

tired I've looked for second hand ones before and they are about £50 so you can always sell on once you are finished with it and make some/most of your money back.

coppergrey · 25/08/2016 20:00

Perfect Prep was on offer in Mothercare when I went in on Monday, tired - can't remember how much but either £60 or £70!

Fedup, we are like one again. Earlier this week my dentist's receptionist said 'that is a HUGE bump for 27 weeks' and then my hairdresser said 'what a lovely little bump you've got! So neat!' about 10 minutes later. People literally just say any old nonsense just to make a comment about the fact you're pregnant. It does annoy me really, because on a delicate day a comment about a bump being too big/too small could send you into a worry spiral! People just don't think at all.

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 25/08/2016 22:37

I keep getting the 'can't be long now' and when are you due, followed by obvious shock and disbelief when I say I'm not due for nearly 3 months. Everyone seems to think I look ready to pop!

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 26/08/2016 04:40

I wish someone would make a "too big" comment about my bump! I'm still so small people are only just about noticing I'm pregnant. I want to enjoy pregnancy in all its glory but feel like a bit of a fraud! Also worrying because I know the baby was measuring small at my last scan and my bump just doesn't seem to be growing much at all. I can still feel loads of space around in there at 29 weeks!

SpottieDotty · 26/08/2016 07:00

Hello everyone - been lurking but thought I'd join the fun. I'm due a LG 1st Nov. Smile
Same here, Muffy, I've been tinyuntil v recently (well bump has, I've just looked fat instead!) but bump seems to have popped a bit in last week so I actually finally now look preggas at 30+3. Have felt like such a fraud until now - two ladies due within same week as me at preg yoga looked convinced I was lying a couple of weeks ago Confused
On the other hand, my small bump has helped as I was dismissed from a new job for being pregnant early on and so have been freelancing since then and desperately trying to hide it to avoid the same happening again. Not nice spending half my time hiding it and the other half being told I'm too small / obv gonna have a tiny baby etc, grrr, but I guess that will stop now I've popped a bit! X

DuckWaddle · 26/08/2016 07:15

I wish I had a small bump like I did with my first! This time I look ready to give birth now! I've had a lot of aghast comments that I'm not due until nov. I'm measuring a tiny bit big too.

helenatroy · 26/08/2016 08:24

I think the poster that said people say an old thing is right. I've had aren't you neat and not long to go in the space of minutes before. And as for baby measurement, she has measured ahead, behind and bang on. (I get extra growth scans) They have growth spurts from time to time and it's just an indication. I got a letter today saying my blood was 8.2 and I need to go back for the tolerance one. It never ends.

Spottyladybird · 26/08/2016 12:37

I think sometimes people are filling space. Today someone said to me '11 weeks to go? Wow, it's going to be huge!' And then 'my daughter was like you and ended up with a section' followed by 'definitely a boy, how you're carrying'. I just smiled and nodded 'yep probably 9lb 10'.

Bollyroo · 26/08/2016 12:57

I haven't really had anyone comment yet except work people but I am loving getting a seat on the bus when it's jam packed. Been super hormonal today in hysterical laughter one minute then sobbing listening to Spotify. So weird!
Dottie, that's terrible about losing your job. What bastards.
Just wondering, is everyone having the GTT or is it really only if your dr has concerns? 2hrs is too long to take off work and I actually laughed when my dr suggested doing it at the weekend. Don't think she realises weekends are for sleeping, eating and making the most of being just the 2 of us. Is there a quicker test that anyone has heard of?

Thurlow · 26/08/2016 13:11

Bolly, I think the GTT is if you hit certain risk factors, such as weight or family history, so not everyone has it. I don't think there's a quicker way, sadly!

Stretchedfortime · 26/08/2016 13:30

Bolly - in my case it was more like 3 hours as everyone got there at the same time and they gave out tickets. I got number 10, so 10 people were seen before me so I didn't get started for at least an hour. If you do go for one, get there early!

AyeAmarok · 26/08/2016 14:59

Bolly I had a GTT yesterday due to family history of Type 2. Took 2.5 hours, needs to be 2 hours between blood tests as I understand it.

Baby was hyper for the rest of the day from all the sugar!

They said they'd call me today with the results.

MissObsessed · 26/08/2016 17:10

So bloody hot that it's making me feel ill Sad I feel like I should be out enjoying the weather but I'm just sitting with the curtains closed and the fan on trying to cool down. Next week is the last week before school starts again and I just hope it not like this.

For those of you who are after the Perfect Prep, I saw a deal on Hot Deals for it at £45 on Amazon. You need to be a Prime customer and use the code BABYGC16. I think it only applies to the red version.

I'm planning on breast feeding but was thinking about getting some bottles in just in case I'm struggling at 3am with a baby that won't feed, is this what others are doing? I'm worried that having bottles will make me give up when feeding gets tough but I also don't want to get stuck without a back up Confused

Fedupithink · 26/08/2016 17:39

Miss yes that's what I've done but instead of buying bottles and steriliser I've bought the ready made milk starter pack.

That way I have six bottles in case of emergency and can go out the next day to buy what seems right at the time/arrange to see a breastfeeding consultant etc or if feeding goes well I've spent less than £10 and can buy bottles/steriliser/pump for expressing later down the line.

Went back for my repeat bloods today, not even the GP so still no clue what's going on really but the HCA gave me a different result from the midwife. No clue what's going on!

bobcat85 · 26/08/2016 19:44

Hope they manage to get the bottom of it soon Fedup.

I'm undecided on breast feeding, this might sound weird but I'm a little bit put off by the idea. Other people doing it doesn't bother me and although it's completely natural it still seems like a weird thing for me to do. I'll probably decide nearer the time.

I've now started maternity leave, well I have two weeks holiday and then my leave starts, but it's unreal to think I won't be at work for at least a year. I'm looking forward to not having to drive 45 minutes to and from work everyday.

Fedupithink · 27/08/2016 03:37

Thanks Bob and congrats on starting your maternity leave! Such a big milestone.

I've 7 weeks left which feels like a lifetime especially as I'm definitely caring less about it every week now. This has been an odd adjustment for me as I was so work focuses before but I guess it's normal.

Hope everyone has a lovely bank holiday weekend planned?

CocklesandMussels · 27/08/2016 12:15

Oh so lovely to have started maternity leave!
I've got two weeks left, l'd like to wind down a bit but it's so busy. I'm not working this weekend though so we are at my in laws who are actually being quite helpful (for a change) and have taken DD to the park.
Have a good weekend everyone

Spottyladybird · 27/08/2016 12:17

Pram finally ordered. We've gone for the M and P Armadillo Flip XT, great offers on and they gave us a voucher for £15 off a £50 spend after Monday.

Should have been £668, we got it for £334 but bought a footmuff and car seat adapters so it came to £400. Bargains!

coppergrey · 27/08/2016 14:47

Great bargains, Spotty!

I just took the plunge on our nursery furniture - the Finley cot and 3-drawer chest from M&S. Was hoping for an offer but they have 30% off furniture this weekend and it's not included, so decided to just go for it! Husband is just finishing off the painting today so it's good timing really.

I have 8 weeks left at work and I'm slightly freaked out... I'm self-employed and know I can't really continue the business with a newborn, and I can't hand it over to anyone either. So it's all going on hold for 5/6 months and then I'll reassess. Not particularly sad about it, just feels weird!

Stretchedfortime · 27/08/2016 20:57

Had a lovely day today. Went to see my best friend, who had made gluten-free sandwiches and a sugar and flour free cake for tea. So great to have support when going through a tricky time. Well done to everyone on the bargains and so glad things are feeling a bit better.
