I've heard amazing things about the perfect prep and if BF doesn't work out this time I will be buying one on next day delivery!

coppergrey · 20/08/2016 18:08

I'm hoping to do the same, Fedup! Fingers crossed our well-laid plans work out Wink

DuckWaddle · 20/08/2016 18:53

Hi all, when we had our first she didn't bf the first night and we didn't have a clue what to do! In the end we gave her pre made formula (which we had thankfully bought on advice of my sister), after that she exclusively bf but I'd def say to have some of the small already made boxes, just in case! I'm planning on bf this time again but will be more
Prepared this time (like knowing how to use the steriliser, rather than manically trying to work it out at 2am with a wailing baby!)

Spottyladybird · 20/08/2016 19:13

Last time I planned to ebf and did but got a bottle refuser. Have bought bottles, a pump and a steriliser to introduce a bedtime bottle early on this time as it'll be a balancing act with bedtime and a three year old. 4-6 weeks is the magic time to start bottles apparently without risking confusion but you should try and give one every day or they might forget and throw a wobbly at some point!

Fedupithink · 20/08/2016 21:07

Ha! Copper it's like we are the same person!! We seem to have very similar ideas on just about everything!

So I've just been looking and you can buy ready-to-feed formula starter packs which are pre-made and come in little bottles you screw a teat onto. Does anyone know how long they last if not opened/heated/chilled? i.e if I buy some with this weeks food shop (as I've been doing with nappies etc) will it keep until maybe December? Or would I be better off buying powdered formula/bottles/steriliser?

I'm just thinking of the worst case scenario (for me) happens and it's 3am screaming baby territory these seem so much quicker to prepare until I'm able to sort something more permanent in the daylight!

FuzzyOwl · 20/08/2016 21:28

Fedup I bought a box a couple of days ago and the use by date is 27 January 2017.

Fedupithink · 20/08/2016 21:59

Oh that's great, thank you Fuzzy! All I could find online was how long they last once opened or warmed!

Quite enjoying all this prepping.

needanewjob · 20/08/2016 22:55

Oh spotty it sounds like you are joining me with the iron tablets 😟 I'm dreading them tbh

Spottyladybird · 21/08/2016 07:38

need I took them last time postnatally and they were horrid. I'm hoping a lower dose now will be better than a high dose after!

Fedupithink · 21/08/2016 09:46

Just a quick reminder to anyone who took advantage of the mamas and papas £15 gift card offer last month - the free vouchers have to be used by today. Just used my final one.

CocklesandMussels · 21/08/2016 11:47

Sounds like a lot of people thinking similarly to me on feeding. DD was breast fed and I tried to express to do one bottle an evening for DH but I found it a massive faff (could only express while simultaneously feeding her on the other side!) and looking back I don't know why I bothered!
This time I'm planning to do mixed feeding and have just ordered the perfect prep on offer too. With two babies I think I'll need all the help I can get!
Hope everyone else is feeling a bit less tired today. I'm not unfortunately. Moving day is raplfly approaching and our entire tiny flat is full of boxes. I should be filling them but instead I'm lying on the sofa drinking full caffeine tea and staring at the trees being battered in the wind.

ktkaye · 21/08/2016 15:13

Hi all! I'm Enjoying reading other people's thoughts on buying in emergency formula, I was pondering this earlier. I do get not wanting to have temptation to hand but at 3am if nothing is working and you're on your knees with tiredness/low supply or whatever it could be a godsend to have something in? Maybe? Am I right in thinking some brands do disposable bottles for new borns? I.e. The formula is premixed and you just attach a teat and away you go, one use only. Obv not a long term solution if you decide to ff or combination feed longer term but I was considering it as an emergency solution rather than buy bottles etc just in case...
My grandma bless her is absolutely adamant I need to have formula in, but my maternity unit say in no uncertain terms not to bring any formula in at all!! (They'll supply it if necessary, feel a bit sorry for those women who don't want to bf in the first place!!)

CakeAndChocolate · 21/08/2016 16:38

kt those one use formulas bottles are exactly what I had last time. Didn't end up using one but I liked knowing they were there.

Spottyladybird · 21/08/2016 16:46

If you want to FF the hospital will usually supply for when you're in. Ours has a cupboard full of the disposable bottles with teats.

Ionacat · 21/08/2016 17:47

I ebf my DD and she was a bottle refuser for a long time, but we still had an emergency couple of cartons and disposable bottle just in case. (No 24 hour supermarkets unless you drive 45 minutes.) We did get her to take a bottle of expressed breast milk eventually - hadn't been heating it up enough. (Body temperature is really quite warm and the minx wouldn't drink it cold.) This time, I'm planning to introduce a bottle once I've established feeding and make sure I do one a day, assuming there are no problems. No problems pumping or with supply so when I next see the midwife/health visitor (should be meeting in a few weeks if they ever phone back) I'm going to ask about milk donation, as we ended up binning lots last time and it was such a waste.

coppergrey · 21/08/2016 21:23

How's everyone doing with the Pregnacare? I am TERRIBLE with mine. I keep forgetting to take it!

I was militant about it till about 20 weeks and then... not so much. I really need to get back into a routine with it! Have just taken today's.

coppergrey · 21/08/2016 21:23

(At least with this recent sunshine I've been getting a decent dose of vitamin D!)

FuzzyOwl · 21/08/2016 22:05

Just bought some more Pregnacare today copper as I was prescribed iron tablets due to anemia and struggling with them, so hoping these will do the job instead.

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 21/08/2016 22:13

I was doing really well copper, taking them every day since my BFP until I ran out about 2 weeks ago and keep on forgetting to buy more.

I do need to get some more though, I was feeling a lot better with them!

bobcat85 · 22/08/2016 04:34

I was taking Seven Seas Pregnancy multivitamins but it turned out I was allergic to them so I've just been taking vitamin D. I've been quite good but I have to leave them on the side so I remember to take one every morning.

Been awake since 2.30 and just couldn't get back to sleep. So I've relocated downstairs in front of the TV hoping I'll fall asleep soon. One more week at work left.

helenatroy · 22/08/2016 08:51

Thank god it's not just me. Taking aspirin strong folic acid and two horrible chalky b vitamin tablets. Started new habit today where DH brings me water and I take them before he leaves in the morning.

tiredmumrighthere · 22/08/2016 10:44

Hi everyone hope you all had a good weekend Smile

So I'm a bit pissed off this morning and here's why..

After doing loads of Internet research on video monitors I chose one that said you could purchase upto 3 more cameras to use in other rooms and watch all on the monitor at once, thought this is perfect because I could put one in my DDs room too, so Friday I start looking at where u can buy the additional cameras and wasn't having any luck so I emailed vtech on Friday and they responded this morning by saying that they dont do additional cameras here in the UK and Europe because it doesn't come within the frequency laws and that the research id done was probably from America where their frequencies laws are different Angry what makes it worse is that my Mil had offered to buy the video monitor for us and noticed that it was on offer in toys r us and grabbed it yesterday! Bloody typical!

In other news I've got my 28 wk mw app today and I'm dreading having my bloods done Sad
Also I can't believe how fast this pregnancy is going 2 more weeks today and I'm 30 weeks Shock shocking!

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 22/08/2016 10:53

Hi all, not been on for a week or two and just spent my morning catching up (in between repeatedly reading Where's Spot? And Rabbit's Nap to dd). Hope everyone is well this morning!
So many teachers here now (secondary English here!) Which is fun - I hope you're all enjoying the summer hols!
Currently waiting for the results of my MRI scan last week and hoping that no news is good news, the tumour is stable, and baby can happily stay put until November... Looks like my ogtt was clear as I never heard anything back (which is impressive as it was the day after I got back from a week in Devon where I lived on cream teas!).
Progress on the new bedroom for DDis very slow here and starting to worry me, but I'm soooo tired and the 16 month old doesn't give me much time to sort stuff out!!!
I'm planning to ebf as far as poss. But as I'll be having brain surgery soon after birth I'm not sure how practical that'll be. We will see. With dd we occasionally used those pre made bottles early on when we hadn't quite got the hang (between 3 and 5 wks she had one every day or two) then combination fed when I went back to work when she was 4.5 months as I was never going to express enough to cover 10 hours a day! I only stopped bfing morning and night when I was 13 wks pregnant this time and was in hospital for a week though so hoping long term I'll be able to keep it up to some extent!

Sorry - far too long a post!

RuskBaby · 22/08/2016 14:28

tired that is seriously frustrating! Nothing worse than deciding then someone throwing a spanner in the works.
little fingers crossed no news is good news, bad news travels fast!

Reached 27 weeks yesterday and baby rusk finally kicked! Quite some oomph I'm guessing because baby is much bigger than when you all would have started feeling them. Celebrated by buying some random things, so no more naked baby!

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 22/08/2016 14:32

Fingers crossed little!
