Tell me about it rusk!

So just got back from my mw app and babies measuring smaller than should be at this stage, so she's got me in for a growth scan on Thursday morning, heartbeat was fine although she's told me to phone the day unit if I'm worried about anything before then Confused I've also got some blood in my urine so got to drop off a mid stream urine sample at my doctors tomorrow morning!

Just when you think things are going swimmingly...

Fedupithink · 22/08/2016 17:02

Keeping fingers crossed for you Little

Sorry to hear that Tired is it possible it's just due to baby's position? I'm sure my MW said if they lay vertically your bump is smaller and it certainly looks that way when mine is up that way?

My bouncer has just arrived and I love it! We went for this Joie one m.johnlewis.com/joie-dreamer-baby-bouncer-khloe-bert/p/2695282 which plays lallabies, rocks, vibrates and has nature sounds. Baby's cupboard is really filling up now.

helenatroy · 22/08/2016 17:22

Tired. Do you have low lying placenta?

CocklesandMussels · 22/08/2016 19:15

I'm so terrible at taking pregnacare etc. Slightly better with the aspirin.

Fuzzy, it's worth checking the iron content. Ferrous sulphate 200mg tablets contains around 65mg of elemental iron, the pregnacare pack suggests they have 17mg iron but it's not 100% clear in what form this is so may even be less (and it's only once a day rather than 2-3x for the ferrous sulphate). It's ok as a general supplement but not enough as a substitute for standard iron tablets if you are actually anaemic. Unfortunately all the higher dose iron supplements are a bit grim but sometimes ferrous gluconate is a bit better if it's constipation that's the problem.
Sympathies. Being anaemic is horrible and being on iron is almost as bad!

coppergrey · 22/08/2016 20:17

I just got an email from Amazon saying my Sleepyhead Pod will be delivered tomorrow and £45 has been debited from my account... could it be?! Shock

needanewjob · 22/08/2016 20:56

So I picked up my iron tablets today and am sat reading the instructions. Apparently I'm best to take my iron tablets three times a day with food but not with any dairy, eggs or tea! So I'm trying to work out what to do for breakfast...I know a few of you have taken iron supplements before so I was wondering if I wake up and have breakfast then an hour or so later take my supplement with a freshly made smoothie if that would work ok?

FuzzyOwl · 22/08/2016 20:57

Thanks Cockles. I might also give my doctor a call and find out how anaemic I am, as multi vitamins really won't help if it is lots. I've only been prescribed two Ferrous Fumarate tablets so hopefully it isn't as severe as it could be.

I have everything crossed for you copper and it will be brilliant if you have got the pod.

My body hurts so much now. Roll on November and Owlet, don't you dare be overdue!

CocklesandMussels · 22/08/2016 21:17

Wow. With food but no dairy, eggs or tea. That's a tall order!
Worth taking with fruit especially oranges or orange juice as it improves absorption.
Eerr could you have toast? Croissants? Massive pain au chocolats? Not very healthy.
Sorry that's no help at all....

Reflux is getting worse, it's grim. I've also got restless legs and have had to stop my vitamin D as it's made it way worse. I've tried tonic water which doesn't realty help. Any tips? Apart from getting these babies out pronto.

Spottyladybird · 22/08/2016 21:19

need ultimately you don't want to take them on an empty stomach and dairy and the tannins in tea effect the absorption of iron.

Vitamin C helps the absorption so if you can take them with a fruit filled smoothie (or juice) that'd be good.

Spottyladybird · 22/08/2016 21:20

Ps I think I used to take them with toast for breakfast!

Bollyroo · 22/08/2016 21:50

Tired, I just had my 28wk check up and poppet is measuring only 25wks but I'm really not worried because she was lying transverse, heartbeat was strong and she kicks all the time.
The Calmbirth course was the biggest pile of crap. I went hoping to find out how to get through when things don't go to plan in labour. Unfortunately they just wanted to tell us that "pain is irrelevant, time is irrelevant, imagine the whales jumping in the sea"... Seriously. Argh!!! Very frustrating waste of a precious weekend. But if anyone wants to know how to breath, I'm now an expert. Apparently it's in.. then out.. Can't believe I've been getting it wrong all these years.

Stretchedfortime · 22/08/2016 22:01

Bollyroo - that really made me laugh after a long, hot and fluey day. Thank you. Starting hypnobirthing this week - hope it's not like that.

FuzzyOwl · 22/08/2016 22:02

Thanks for the tip Bolly. Grin Is it just in and then out and repeat, or is there more to it?! Grin

CakeAndChocolate · 22/08/2016 22:31

Grin @ Bolly

CakeAndChocolate · 22/08/2016 22:31

Although sorry you wasted a weekend

tiredmumrighthere · 22/08/2016 22:52

Fedup,Helena,bolly..she never actually said which position baby is, but when I went 2weeks ago she was measuring great so seems like it can't be that bad, my bumps looking a lot smaller today so maybe she is laying different? Oh well at least i get to see her again Thursday Smile although Im already booked in for growth scans for sept,October and November so get to see her a lot over the next few months!

Another thing that's pissed me off today is the mw (I won't say my mw because it was someone completely different today) told me to make a mw app for two weeks time so when I went to reception to do that she said they was fully booked for two weeks time and that id have to go to a different surgery (4 miles away) to be seen Shock even the week after they was fully booked but managed to get one for the 19th and I done even know if I'm due to be seen at 32 weeks? But made it anyway just so I know it's there..bloody nightmare! So not only do I not get to see my own named mw I get to go to a completely different health centre..great!

CocklesandMussels · 23/08/2016 08:03

Haha Bolly that made me laugh. Poor you having to sit through it though. Wink
Our NCT instructor from last time refused to tell us that childbirth was painful, just that it was 'very intense' (I never got to find out, I had a section).

MissObsessed · 23/08/2016 08:23

Can't wait to see whether you do receive the pod copper I ordered it at £45, was promised the pod by two different people and then had my order cancelled. I called them to speak to a supervisor about it and was told he would call me back but he didn't Angry I was going to give up but if you do receive the pod then I'll be back on the phone demanding a reason why they are treating customers differently (they're going to hate me aren't they?) Grin

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 23/08/2016 08:29

Bolly Grin I hope the hypnobirthing classes aren't the same too!

I'm in for my GTT at the moment. They gave me the Lucozade before taking my first bloods. Is that normal? I thought I was meant to do blood, drink, wait, more blood?

helenatroy · 23/08/2016 08:32

Bolly. Exactly the same thing is happening to me now. Had to drink it in five minutes.

CocklesandMussels · 23/08/2016 08:34

Muffy my test was lucozade then a single blood test an hour later. No bloods before the lucozade. They called it a glucose challenge test rather than a glucose tolerance test. Apparently at my place (UCLH) they do the quicker one if you're lower risk, then the full one if there is a problem. It might be something like that.

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 23/08/2016 08:39

Oh ok, thank god I didn't question her about it then. I would have looked like an idiot!

Helena it's so gross. I keep burping Grin luckily it's not busy in here.

needanewjob · 23/08/2016 08:57

Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I think I have a kind of solution.... My plan is to have breakfast around 7am and then a fruit smoothie/oj around 9am with my first iron tablet. Apparently if I wait 2 hours between dairy etc then it won't affect absorption!

Slumberparty · 23/08/2016 11:09

I have received my sleepy pod now. I was originally having it shipped to HK but they cancelled my order and gave me a £10 Amazon gift card. After a conversation via email they let me reorder at full price then they adjusted amount back to £45..then the £10 gift voucher was applied making it even cheaper! Only catch was they would only deliver to UK which is fine as I'll be back there soon.
Not fair that they are treating us differently though. Seems to depend on who you are dealing with..

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 23/08/2016 11:12

So overall you paid £35 slumber? That's amazing! I so wish I'd taken advantage of this cock-up!
