mammyjo · 25/01/2007 10:30

Not quite sure who was the first to measure then!!!

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 25/01/2007 10:35

Hello all. Oh dear, the grumpy mood has spread then!
I feel a bit cheerier now. Dropped Becky off a preschool and she was in a much better frame of mind. Gave me a kiss and a cuddle and skipped off.
Sat here with a mocha coffee and a milky way watching This Morning - on the premise to myself that I am doing some admin - really! Plus I need the energy before doing housework!

So ladies, things can only get better - that is my motto for the day.

Better crack on. xx

Birdiebump · 25/01/2007 10:44

SOSPL - I think you're passing your mood to me - while you're getting better I'm getting worse! I've got a horrible spot on my top lip and now I appear to have some sort of heartburn thingy - and I haven't even eaten anything this morning! Grrrr....

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 25/01/2007 11:34

Oh Birdie, sorry to hear you have caught the grumpy bug. Do you think eating something might actually help. I find sometimes if I am hungry I get heartburn.
Happy vibes coming your way. xx

claricebean · 25/01/2007 11:43

Well it's snowing here - mad, considering it was 24 degrees last time I ventured out of the sick house.

Well have found the motivation to make a train track for DS and bake a toffee cake . All I really want to do is sleep or lie on the sofa reading my new book (Little Face - anyone read it?).

Hope everyone's a bit happier. Tea, sympathy and toffee cake all round.

CaptainDippy · 25/01/2007 11:48

Hello people! I have Grumpy Bug too - Don't know what is up with me atm - Don't have DD's for the rest of the day (hurrah!); but still feeling low and under-motivated etc. So stupid. Grrrrr! So hugs]]]] to all who are sharing in this Grumpy bug with me.

Hope all goes well with your DSis Liath - exciting stuff - Do let us know what she has etc ..... hope she has a much better labour this time round..... Bugger to missing out on your lunch though and DD being off nursery - hope soft play is ok ....

I think I might go and have lunch at Tesco (2 mins away, whereas town and all 'nicer' places to eat are 45 mins away ) and be grumpy on my own.

Grump. Flump.

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 25/01/2007 11:53

Snowing in Spain? Wow!! And toffee cake - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! I haven't baked a cake since I was 16!

Liath, best wishes to your sister - how exciting!

CD, sorry to hear you are feeling down too. I can't stop eating, but eating crap. Now on to Pringles having had a milky way earlier. I think it is tiredness!

claricebean · 25/01/2007 11:54

Oh yes, Liath. Good luck to your sister. Let us know.

CaptainDippy · 25/01/2007 12:00

Mmmmm, I don't think eating lots of crap is too bad - I am thinking perhaps I need to join you SPSOL!!

Bugmum · 25/01/2007 13:09

Hi all,
I haven't posted in so long that I expect you've all forgotten who I am (to remind you: I am an old'un). Have tried to keep up with the reading, but have mostly been skimming, so feel very out of the loop.

Can I just say that I hate those What to Expect books; the toddler one strongly suggests only 6 months of breast feeding, or you will get terrible problems including dental. This is simply untrue. I find them prescriptive rather than descriptive, and terribly anxiety-making: what if your breast/baby/toddler simply doesn't behave as it is 'supposed' to? I like more general stuff, like the NCT's book of Babycare, which has a lot of breastfeeding advice. The truth is, however, that much breastfeeding fails in this country because we simply don't see other mothers feeding as a matter of course. I bet there is not much of a failure rate in less 'developed' countries, or those where the culture is different. This is not an anti-bottle rant - people must do what is best for them, of course - and nor is it to negate the fact that some people do find it very difficult, but very many difficulties really do have to do with mis-information and stress, with inept latching on that comes from lack of knowledge etc

And on that note , I'll slope off again

Birdiebump · 25/01/2007 13:24

Bugmum - welcome back! I used to be Greengirlforever, another oldie (still old even though name has changed, alas!).

I have an "abridged" copy of "What to expect when you're breastfeeding (and what if you can't)" and while I agree with you totally about the "What to Expect" series in general, this book seems to be quite different from the rest. The reason I liked it so much is that it really does give a lot of useful information that certainly I (as a third-timer) was not aware of with regard to latching-on and other common breastfeeding problems. Having read it through, I am hoping to make a much better fist at bf-ing this LO than I did with DS2 (struggled through 6 months).

But enough all all that bf talk!! How the hell are you and where have you been?

Whendoobygotstuckupthechimney · 25/01/2007 13:33

Afternoon ladies..you have all gone crazy lately
I am really pleased for you Liath that is brilliant news.
Hope things are better for you and your ds today AngeG..MAYBE HE WAS TIRED AS WELL.eVEN IF YOU WEREN'T BPREGNANT HE WOULD PROBABLY STILL HAVE DAYS LIKE THAT..I KNOW MINE DID.
I have to take ds to Tae Kwon Do after school and all i want to do is sit in the car to wait and eat choc and read i do not want to talk tom anyone about my size, when a am due, what names have i chosen or about anything else!I too feel a tad grump today.
Welcome back to the mayhem Charlnbump and Bugmum.I think you are right in many ways Bugmum about the feeding thing.I am,however, bottle feeding this one...and people have been hugely judgemental...people i barely even know[school gate stuff]Luckily i ain't bovvered what they think
Hope the grumps lift and you all have a lovely day.

runnyhabbit · 25/01/2007 14:00

Afternoon all x

pmsl at the leaderboard

ds has started waking up an hour earlier as well 5.30 instead of 6.30, but its a pita because I usually get up at 6.15, so there doesn't seem to be any point in going back to bed.

Liath - good luck to your sister

I'm not feeling grumpy today, but a bit bleurgh. Can't be bothered to do anything. There must be something in the air with dh's. Mine's been leaving home at 4am the past few mornings , and is so knackered when he gets home that he's in a bad mood But, on a good note, he thinks he knows how to fix the washing machine, so he's promised to sort it on the weekend

Bugmum - totally agree with you about bf. I really wanted too with ds, but found it very difficult, and the mw in the hospital didn't help, in fact, the way they spoke to me (and dh) actually added to the stress. Then I was made to feel like a failure when we decided to ff ds. My community mw were brilliant though, and totally supported whatever we choose to do.

Anyway, got to go, ds is calling......

xx

Pesha · 25/01/2007 14:06

Hello

Congrats on scan liath, that is such good news it must be such a relief.

Well have yet to measure my nips as it is still too cold but im pretty sure i will be well up on the leaderboard, 7 cm is nothing!! And my waist is about 45inches although no idea what it was before, varied between size 12 & 14. And ive also put on nearly 2 stone although cant see that ive got any fatter anywhere really so hopefully is all bump and things.

Had childminding pre registration meeting this morning, have loads of stuff to read about national standards. At the moment there is a grant available for start up costs of £300 (I think) but as of april will only be available in some areas and they dont know what those areas will be. Luckily there is a training course in march so if i do that i should be able to get forms and get the grant. The course runs over 2 1/2 saturdays so dp is either gonna have to miss some football or sweet talk his mum!! Its all quite exciting though, I was nearly registered before when dd was a baby but split up with her dad so it never happened. Im not sure it'll be my ideal job long term but certainly while baby is still baby it'll be great. And ds counts as a 5 year old once he is in school even though he'll actually only be 4 which means i can have 2 other chilren under 5 if i want. Keep thinking of loads of jobs we'll have to do first though around the house. Although im not planning on being registered for upstairs, i think its important dd and ds have their rooms as their own if they need a bit of space and so they can have some toys that are theirs only and they dont have to share. Sorry my brain is in overdrive at the mo and dp is still in bed so have noone else to talk to about it all with yet!!

Hello bugmum, I still remember you! Wasn't that long ago was it? Haven't ever read any of these books, the only books I ever read were how not to be a perfect mother and the one the mw gave me! Agree with you about bfing though.

And hello again charnbump

muminabigtumi · 25/01/2007 14:28

Wipes away tears of laughter
OMG - you lot are hysterical....I've been away less than a day and you've added 200 posts....most of which are about nipple size and cervixes (ewwww)

Where to start! Can't get the phrase "Mammyjo's monster mammories" out of my head!

I've just ordered some Spatone from the chemist...had my iron level taken this morning - and both arms are like bloody pin cushions as the midwife couldn't find a vein. She has sent off the most pathetic sample ever so no doubt it will be insufficient and I will have to have it done again....rest of my midwife check was fine. I am measuring spot on for 27+ apparently so thats good...although I do agree it is very subjective as they have to decide where your pubic bone starts underneath trousers etc...

Laith - fantastic news re your scan - I am so pleased for you hug - also v exciting re your sister - keep us informed!! I need to find a Haggis for tea tonight (my family and I are Scottish - I was born in Dumfries and my family are from Girvan in Ayrshire)

Geordie - PMSL at "wap them out"....honest to god I was crying when I read it...
Can't find a tape measure to measure mine!

SOSPL - sorry to hear about your less than successful trip to the hairdressers...little buggers they can be! Hope your feeling a bit better - totally understand where you are coming from re DH - why can men just leave stuff and not be bothered about how it affects their tired, hormonal pregnant wife??. I got in from work last night at 9pm and after having my tea asked DH if he would wash my plate as I was knackered. He said no he was watching football......so I just did it myself and went to bed...couldn't be arsed arguing and just thought - you selfish tosser....!
Whoever was asking re weight gain...I get weighed every week at Slimming World and despite my best efforts I have put on 2 stone - will get it off after - I'm growing a healthy baby and thats my priority (sob)

Bubblez - Hi and welcome back and yes I get Braxton Hicks after sex....puts me off doing it abit to be honest...although I had the horn big time yesterday but after the "plate" incident decided he could getto back to buggery (in the words of the great Rab C Nesbit)!.

Didn't get any BH's last time but loads this time - they are quite uncomfortable but now I know what they are I don't panic so much...

EllieK - lovely pics...
AngeG - sorry to hear you had a bad time with your DS - they can be devils...yesterday James threw a big cup of smoothie all over the living room in a tantrum - I was SO angry and cross. They are just looking for a reaction. He spent time on the beanbag whilst I cleaned it up and he apologised afterwards for throwing juice...so it's even more frustrating when they know they are doing wrong....I think just like us they have days when under the weather, tired and frustrated and can't vocalise it and I know that when I'm tired too I find it harder to deal with.

He was up at 4am this morning....I managed to get himback to bed but I didn't sleep a wink after that till I finally got up at 6.30...I am convinced it is my body preparing for sleep deprivation when baby does come.

I've probably forgotten loads I wanted to say to people

Oh Tili - did you say it was your Birthday? Happy Birthday if it is!!!
And...er.....oh no news as yet on the twins...my collegue is seeing someone today that may know more - I will let you know when I find out.

How many more posts will there be by the time I have finished this I wonder?!

charNbump · 25/01/2007 14:57

oh my god....my back.... i think i may die

Katy44 · 25/01/2007 14:57

Hi everyone,
Just a quick one as I'm at work
Feeling very behind as I haven't measured my nipples or found my cervix (surely it must be in there somewhere) but not a bad day other than that.
I need recommendations for slings as I've decided it's finally time to buy one! Would anyone recommend / put me off any particular brand?

Katy44 · 25/01/2007 14:58

charNbump - what's wrong?

charNbump · 25/01/2007 14:59

oh and muminabigtumi - it was me asking about weight gain. so far i have out on 18lbs but am short, and it shows but hey ho. Just wasn't impressed with the "you're getting tubby" comment i received yesterday from a fellow co-worker. didn't take it personally at first but then was like, cheers then! Why don't ya just call me fatty!

don't mind me, just wittering.......

geordiemacminx · 25/01/2007 15:01

Katy, I'm bidding on a wilkinet on ebay... website is wilkinet.com I think... they supposed to be very good.... a half way house between the more "natural" slings and the more tradional baby bjorn or whatever they are called..

About £45 new, or like I said on ebay, some new going for under £20, which is what I'm hoping to get, just to see how I get on with it.. it doesnt have any buckles or anything so can be washed, and is comfortable apparently?

charNbump · 25/01/2007 15:06

Katy44 - stupid sitting @ my bloomin desk all day's - thats waht wrong lol! (sorry if i sound a teensy bit stompy )
I'm going for a walk to the "deads" in a minute to try and releive the immense back ache i appear to b suffering with....again

charNbump · 25/01/2007 15:17

...and apparently i can't spell either today - oh my

CaptainDippy · 25/01/2007 16:20

Yes - It is Tili's Birthday today - So Happy Birthday Tili Love!! Hope you're having a super day and DP is spoiling you rotten!!

Poor you with your back Char - Ouch!! All these PG aches and pains are jsut miserable, ain't they??

Have almost finished the housework, which is good - Going to pounce on DH when he gets in .... not for "you know what" .... but to clean the bathroom!!!

Hee! Hee!

geordiemacminx · 25/01/2007 16:47

Was sent this earlier, 21 week old fetus/baby, was being operated on whilst still in his mummy's womb, its a new proceedure in america. Absolutely remarkable pic, and apparently the baby went on to be delivered 100% healthy at full term. Without the operation he would have died.

Not really a pic for the squeamish!!

21 week old baby

Hope I dont offend anyone. xxx

CaptainDippy · 25/01/2007 17:33

Huh? And the protective sac surrounding the baby is where!!? exactly. Do you have any other info on this Geordie!!? - I am sceptical that this possible. Incredible picture all the same.....

(Sorry - that is not meant to cause offence to you Geordie, I am just not sure I believe it!!)
