Had our 20w scan yesterday and we are having a baby boy! Team blue for us! All healthy from what was seen and he kept hiding his face away from us. We had both referred to peanut as a 'he' from almost the day we found out but were happy to have either just so long as it's healthy. Belly shape and everything has really changed in the past week, think I've finally 'popped' as it were Smile

Sueevone I went to Bali for 3 weeks when I was 6 weeks pregnant but was not aware of any Zika problems over there and doctors have not said anything to me. Why were you being tested or worried? Have there been reports I haven't seen thanks

We got the m&p sola 2. We were going to get the mothercare £250 travel system but m&p had the sola 2 in the sale, it seemed a little sturdier and will fold with the seat on. We got that and the car seat plus isofix base for a little over £400 so not much more that the mothercare one once you account for buying a base.

Hannahcarp - if you have travelled to a country where Zika has been identified you should notify your midwife. You will need to check the WHO lost to see if Bali is on the list.

Bali isn't on the list which is what I had checked before I went. Going to ask GP for blood test check to check but doesn't seem Bali is a reported place.

We were going to try and manage without a travel system/pram/buggy as we didn't use ours much - we live close to the school and I use the sling a lot for walks. However my colleague is selling a jane slalom pro in red/green with lie flat car seat
for £60 all in so think we might go for that!!

What's the best (reasonably) priced baby carrier? Also what's easier/more comfy between a sling and a carrier?

Lovely scan news ladies.
Hope you're feeling a bit better now elodie 😊

Had my scan today, is a boy for us.

We weren't 100% convinced by the sonographer though, last time they were spot on it was a girl. This time it was a 'well I think it might be a boy'.

bigfam have a Google for a local sling library. We have one where you can try out loads of different styles and get recommendations, then hire for a nominal fee.

Each person / baby is different and needs will change over time, so saves shelling out a fortune on something that might not suit either of you

ElodieS · 02/08/2016 15:27

Yay! Congratulations Turnips! ...sounds like it might be best not to go to town too much on the blue stuff just yet though!

Thanks bigfam, feeling much happier now we'll seen our LO, it was just the pick-me-up I needed.

On the best carrier, I'd really recommend going to a sling library if you can find one near you, and giving a few a try. We got on really well with the Ergobaby with DTs, but I know not everyone likes it and it isn't cheap.

Congratulations everyone one the successful scans. Smile

I'm thinking of perhaps getting our pram used from ebay? Bad idea?

My aunt has announced by pregnancy on Facebook. Shock There is no mention whatsoever of me being pregnant on Facebook and I had intended for it to stay that way. Angry I lost my previous two pregnancies...I have no intention of announcing this one and then things going wrong. (I'm aware that there's no indication of this at the moment at all, but still...) WIBU to have deleted her message? She included it in a really long one, in which she asked me about other stuff and just telling me things about my cousin. I'm really not sure why this had to be posted on my wall instead of just having been sent as a private message. Confused

Thanks Elodie got to go back for another scan in a week as they need to check the heart valves, which is concerning.

Gosh Mini, I don't have FB, but if I did and this had happened to me, I'd be apoplectic!! In her defence, maybe she didn't realise it wasn't a private message, I have relatives like this!

Thanks for all the advice to check out a sling library, sounds really worth while and something I'll be doing when the kids are back at school. 😊

Glad seeing your baby cheered you up elodie!
Minispringroll I bought our pram second hand, it's in really really good condition and was quite cheap (also had two brand new colour packs) just bought a new mattress for the carrycot. Also bought the chicco next2me second hand and replacing the mattress Friday, it looks amazing! 😍 complete bonus how easily it can be taken down and re-assembled, 30 seconds and it's done.

Advice needed from second time mums (or very wise first timers!) on what is necessary to buy - ie can't live without. We're starting to think about the big things so when we spot a bargain second hand we can pounce.

So far my list includes:
Changing table/mat
Pram
Cot for baby to sleep in your room
Body sling/carrier
Chair for nursing
A few bottles (planning to breastfeed but just in case)
Breast pump
Obviously clothes/nappies but they can wait until later!
Something to use in bath when cleaning when little

Is there anything else you would class as a must - have right from the start?

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Hi all!

Congratulations to those with scan news and gender news (and those staying firmly on team yellow!)

Great advice about slings/carriers - I'm keen to get one we can both use, inside and outside.

23+3 today and had to go back for second scans check the heart as it couldn't be confirmed for all chambers and valves at 20week scan. All perfect & the sonographer said a call back for one thing or another is incredibly common.

She also showed me my placenta, right as baby girl elbowed me - it's no wonder I can't feel anything. It's covering my whole stomach and she told me not to worry at all about feeling/not feeling things, even at 24 weeks. Normal is different for everyone and it's more about once you get a pattern of movement, being aware of it to notice any changes. (Hope that helps worries of anyone who hasn't felt any movement yet!)

I also appear to have been removed from the list, my EDD is 26/11 if I can be added back on? Flowers

First if you're planning on breastfeeding I found my feeding pillow essential! But some of the items on your list I don't think you need at all (changing table, sling/carrier, nursing chair).
