Slightly late to the party but hello everyone - I am a FTM due Christmas Day! Started feeling movement this week which is lovely, and got my next scan this week.

Re all the Zika concerns we found out I was pregnant after 10 days in the Caribbean. I am under consultant care as a result but they don't seem particularly concerned. Their general strategy seems to be to monitor it by giving me scans every 4 weeks to check that baby's head growth is where it should be. They took my blood when I got back but would only test it for Zika if there became a reason for concern.

Underlying message seems to be that they really don't seem concerned about Zika, even where you have travelled to an area with known exposure, so I wouldn't worry too much about travelling to countries which aren't known to have it. Use lots of mosquito repellent which contains deet, and either ask for your room to be sprayed at night or use a plug in repellent.

Thought I would go back to my original name. I was HidinginPlainS1ght. Had our 20 week scan last week and all seems well. No issues. We have a fetal echo on the 8th but baby was showing off his heart so it seems unlikely there will be any cardiac issues except maybe a small VSD. We decided not to find out the sex but since we'll be having scans at 24,28,32 and 36 weeks I guess we can always change our minds.

This is such a different pregnancy than last time, it is odd to be normal and boring and to actually be thinking about buying things and childcare and all that stuff. Last time we were making stillbirth plans and getting emails about home burial and engaging lawyers. This pregnancy is just remarkably calm. However just like last time my depression and anxiety does seem to have cleared up at around 20 weeks. Hoping it will stay away.

The hospital are generally being difficult with us however but I've ceased bothering about them. I've been diagnosed with diabetes so am seeing the diabetic team so have basically decided not to bother with midwife or obstetric care, it doesn't seem they want to see us anyway. I'm hoping my sugars stay stable and baby grows well and we can have a home birth but we'll see how it goes.

Hope things are going smoothly for everyone.

Long tym not been o as I got locked out of my user name🙀.
20 week scan coming up on Wednesday and in two minds to ask the gender. Dh and DS want to know but I prefer the surprise.
Come next weekend I'm of to the inlaws abroad to take kids for visit- not looking forward to it in my own without dh...
A bit worried as not on any AD since finding out of pregnancy but know I'm going to need them around pil ☹️

becciandbump · 01/08/2016 08:12

user1469... we are the same conceived in Maldives they aren't overly concerned as the one case there was over 12 months ago we also are just having growth scans

cupcakesam84 · 01/08/2016 08:34

Hi all, not been on for a bit but hoping everyone's ok! Had 20 wk scan on Friday, all is good, but couldn't get a few measurements so going back in 2 weeks! They think it's a girl which we will be super happy about but not getting my hopes up until next scan (we have an 8 month old boy so really wanted a girl this time, obviously as long as healthy it's good)! Have you moved onto a Facebook group yet? It's so much easier to keep up to date on fb Smile

TinyTickler · 01/08/2016 09:22

Becciandbump it's good to hear they are dealing with you the same - I kind of get a bit paranoid that maybe my local team just don't really know how to handle it and are winging it a bit. Although I am 90% sure it will be fine in any event

Londonmamabychance · 01/08/2016 10:28

Hi again everyone, hope all are having a good day and not feeling too tired. I'm really struggling with tiredness in this pregnancy, wasn't at al like that in my first, but guess I wasn't looking after a toddler while being pregnant last time! : )

Re Zika, I second what the lady who has been to the Caribbean and is under special care said. I don't think there's a reason to be super concerned. We are travelling to Georgia (the country) in a few weeks, and the WHO said there's a big risk Zika could break out in the black sea region (where we're going) soon. First when I found out I panicked and said to DH I didn't want to go, but then I did some research and realised that the risks, even if going to s place with Zika, are still fairly low. Even looking at Brazil, the country the worst hit, there's been around 4000 babies born with microcephaly, in a country where there's around 8000 live births in just one day. I have Brazilian friends living here, they just came back from a visit home and said that most people in Brazil are quite relaxed about it too. I think it's become a bit of a hype, tbh. Totally understand why people would feel worried, and don't want to be negligent or jinx myself or anyone, but agree that the underlying take-home is that it's not that concerning. But of course we worry about everything when we're pregnant! ; )

ElodieS · 01/08/2016 12:00

Hi all,

How's everyone doing? I'm feeling a bit low, not sure if it's pregnancy/hormones or what but I'm usually quite an energetic and happy person and the last few days I've been really down and tired despite not doing much more than usual. I'm hoping it'll pass in a few days. Has anyone else been feeling similar?

E x

NotAClue82 · 01/08/2016 13:22

Hello TheDisillusionedAnarchist, I think I recognise your name from the Antenatal Tests board where (unfortunately) I've spent some time myself, too. So glad your pregnancy is going well and that you are feeling okay! Fingers crossed your sugars stay stable and that you can have your home birthSmile

bumbleclat · 01/08/2016 13:52

ElodieS I'm feeling the same too, I read somewhere that the baby puts on a pound between week 20 and 23 so that's a lot of energy being used on this section of the pregnancy.
When I'm fighting a cold or something, I normally feel like this too so I'm just trying to remember it's probably temporary.
Can you take some time for yourself to do what you want?
I'm doing very little this afternoon.
Hope you feel better soon.

IslandLife · 01/08/2016 14:37

Re Zika...We're going to Grenada in a few weeks. Originally we had booked Barbados but we changed the destination because I was so worried about It. There is still a risk in Grenada, but I have spoken to quite a lot of people who have some knowledge of the situation, and to echo what others on here have said, they seem largely unconcerned about the risks. Same goes for my midwife and GP. The resort we're going to have stated that they are 'zika free' along with their resorts on other Caribbean islands. We've decided not to venture away from the resort for the whole time we're there, which suits me fine! And I'll probably spend most of the time taking advantage of the free food anyway SmileThere are so many conflicting reports about zika, one article will make you think the whole thing is ridiculous hype while the next will scare you to death!

cnchapmanxx · 01/08/2016 14:37

Afternoon girls!

Had our 20wk scan this morning, everything absolutely fine with baby.. healthy and all the measurements were perfect!

Also joining Team Pink - having a beautiful baby girl xxxx

SolomanDaisy · 01/08/2016 16:25

TipBoov, I had the same issue with small size at my 20 week scan. It's hard not to worry, especially when you don't have any of the risk factors for slow growth and can't do anything about it.

Firsttimer16 · 01/08/2016 17:07

Hi all,

I've not posted for ages but have been keeping up. Great so many scans have gone well! Mine isn't for another 3 weeks when I'm nearly 22 weeks - the waiting is killing me! (Due date was put back to 29th Dec at 12 week scan)

We did have a private scan half way through though to break it up - after being 10000% convinced I was having a girl, it turned out to be a boy!! I felt very thrown for a few hours as had genuinely been so sure, but now am very excited! Also found out I have an anterior placenta which was probably the most reassuring thing to come out of scan, as haven't felt anything yet really.

Still looking just chubby, rather than a proper bump, but waiting for it to pop! Only 19+4 stil, and v jealous of all you ladies a few weeks ahead!

We're going to menorca later this year so a bit worried re zika but you've all put my mind at ease a bit.

Hope everyone is well.

sueevone · 01/08/2016 17:54

Just had my 20 week scan, was a bit worried as DH had been to Bali when I was 6-8 weeks but was told I wouldn't know if there were any adverse affects until the 20 week scan when head measurements would be taken alongside the results of my bloods. All clear but Biscuit ( as he's been named since we found out we were expecting) would not stay still, sonographer said he was the most active baby she'd had in a while. Really glad he's been given the all clear. All I want to do now is shop!
Kitkat I did previously mention but I don't think you may have seen it, my due date has moved to the 18th December, please could you update the list when you get the chance Smile. X

Azure83 · 01/08/2016 19:06

bumble that's an interesting fact about this stage of pregnancy. I'll be definitely using that one for feeling so tired.. I'm 22 weeks today and feel myself slowing down in the evenings, trying to stay awake on the train home! I still can't get my head around the fact that the baby weighs about a pound at the moment will put on another 6 or 7 (or more Confused) in the next 20 weeks!

Bigfam · 01/08/2016 19:44

My bump seems to have popped today, it's getting in the way and my youngest can't figure out why she can't comfortably sprawl out on me 😆 duck waddling is sure to commence soon

TipBoov · 01/08/2016 19:55

I had the day off work today and napped on and off all day. I still feel tired!

kittyscot81 · 01/08/2016 21:43

I've been obsessing over what pram to get, finally deciding on an Uppababy vista. Anyone chosen yet? Also any opinions on the best time to order it?

goinggrey1978 · 01/08/2016 22:04

Yep I've decided on a silver cross Pioneer in red and just waiting nearer to bank holiday sales to order it and get it delivered to my parents after we all went buggy test driving last week!

BowSurprise · 01/08/2016 22:15

Ooo we think we are going to go for the silver cross wayfarer. Is there any reason you've gone for the pioneer going grey? We picked this one out as seemed lighter than some others but we didn't see the pioneer to compare.

goinggrey1978 · 01/08/2016 22:50

Yes the Pioneer has a much larger shopping basket, wheels are bigger and wheels have treads easier to grip in the winter weather, toys r us and some larger mothercare stores have a larger selection of silver cross buggies to look at, as the mothercare near my work doesn't have a big silver cross stand but the one opposite my hospital has a bigger and double the size silver cross stand, so that's where me and my parents went last week and had a demonstration from the lady about all the buttons, how to get carrycot off and buggy seat on, then how to attach the car seat also, my dad had a go at putting it up and down and mum measured the carrycot base to get the right size for the blanket she's knitting, lady was very helpful and showed us all the features!!

kittyscot81 · 01/08/2016 22:53

Bow They look too have the same chassis and seat/carrycot design but the pioneer has more heavy duty tyres than the wayfarer. Both lovely Prams though, was very tempted by the silver cross too. Smile

Bigfam · 02/08/2016 06:54

We bought a single oyster after debating for ages whether to keep the oyster max (double) in the end we (being I) decided it was time for a new pram. We've got the humbug colour pack for both the seat and the carrycot, which I love 😍
