essy my main exercise pre-pregnancy was aerial - hanging off a hoop. Sadly had to stop as soon as I found out, and I really miss it. I'm going to start pregnancy yoga soon, and I started swimming again last week.

weechops that must be so hard :(

oddsock my 16 week appointment yesterday was a urine test, blood pressure and baby's heartbeat. Plus general chitchat.

Theaks · 23/06/2016 08:14

oddsock my hubby didn't come either. He is saving his leave for scans and later on. Although he said he might come next week to midwife app because it's at the end of the day and might be able to sneak off early. We listened to the heartbeat but my midwife suggested that I filmed it to show the hubby. That was nice of her. So I have a little video of a lovely sound with my not so attractive belly! 🙈

Theaks · 23/06/2016 08:17

As for bump, all my colleagues and friends know. But I haven't told my clients yet, I work with families. I'm sure they are probably wondering if I have just put on a few pounds. I'm waiting for them to actually ask me.

barkingtreefrog · 23/06/2016 08:53

oddsock my 16w midwife appointment is 10am today, just hoping it goes better than the first one when she had a go at me for being late when I'd been sat outside her room waiting for over half an hour due to the man on reception not logging me correctly on the system Angry.
She could have popped her head out of the door and checked rather than just looking at her computer screen!!

Bigfam scan is at 12.20. Quite nervous. I got myself a Doppler and have heard the heartbeat pretty quickly each time I've used it. But it's always in exactly the same place so I'm worried that the baby isn't moving!!!

Essybird I intended to keep up the exercise but I'm just exhausted all the time so really struggling to do anything that doesn't involve lying on the sofa or lying in bed!! Have been swimming a few times but that's about it. Been too tired for even that this week though.

Bigfam · 23/06/2016 09:23

Ours is at 1pm on Sunday, good luck anyway barkingtreefrog, I hope you get a clear view.

I bought a Doppler as well and baby seems to generally stay in the same place, my 16week appointment isn't til the 1st when I'll be 17 weeks but I don't think mW will listen for HB then, so it's nice that I can reassure myself.

Ahh bless you weechops x

Brisgirl · 23/06/2016 10:07

I was told very categorically at my booking in appointment (sticker in book saying so as well) that due to the new NICE recommendations they would not be listening for baby's heartbeat at any stage during the pregnancy. 😩 Anyone else have the same? Obviously changed recently as they used to listen to to DS' heartbeat and that was less than two years ago. Not as early as 16 weeks though - I think they started at 24...

Bigfam · 23/06/2016 10:48

Brisgirl really? I know once you start to feel regular movements you need to take notice of any drastic changes, but I'll be 16 weeks tomorrow & this is my 5th pregnancy & I've not felt so much as a flutter yet. It seems such a long wait in between scans and to term if there's no chance of listening to baby's heartbeat, not sure if they still measure your bump later on in pregnancy, but in my case that's been the most unreliable & stressful check-up in every pregnancy, I've always measured small and been sent for scans, then at the scans they've been way off with weight estimates, telling me to expect a small baby with low birth weight, which wasn't the case.
Sorry for the essay!

Brisgirl · 23/06/2016 11:27

Yes bigfam - I think the logic is that they want you to be more aware of movements. Like you, nearly 16 weeks and not felt anything yet, last time it was 19 weeks. I think they do still measure your bump from 28 weeks on - I was the opposite, massive bump and teeny tiny baby!

BristolLFR · 23/06/2016 12:25

Where abouts are you brisgirl?

I'm in horfield and they've never mentioned that to me! I've got my 16 week check up next Friday so will report back then.

Midwives discourage home dopplers as people get in a panic if they can't find baby, but if they're not checking themselves them surely this will just drive more people to buy them?

SolomanDaisy · 23/06/2016 12:54

Wow, not checking the heartbeat at all sounds crazy! What possible benefit can there be to not checking? My midwife has been checking it since 11 weeks (though she did say they won't do anything to follow up if they don't find it before 16 weeks).

ElodieS · 23/06/2016 13:02

Hello all! It's been forever, sorry I haven't been on much. I've got this afternoon off so will have a nice sit, Brew and Cake and try to catch up.

I'm 15 weeks tomorrow and definitely showing now. DTs haven't noticed yet but friends and family have, which is lovely. I still haven't spoken to work as I had to take quite a lot of time off when DT1 was in hospital so I'm keen to get back to normal first.

We've started looking for some of the bigger things we need to buy, like a pram and I went through DTs baby clothes last weekend to see what was salvageable... not that much unfortunately!

Hope you're all doing well! E xx

firawla · 23/06/2016 13:10

Anyone else not have a date for their 16 week apt yet? I'm 14+5 now and supposed to be seeing consultant at 16 weeks, but nothing in the post yet?! If nothing in a couple more days I should probably phone up and chase but wondering if anyone's in the same boat?? I have to go in at 16 weeks anyway for gtt but don't want my consultant appointment to get missed out!

brisgirl I had never heard that about not checking the heart beat! It seems like a shame, although I suppose their reasons make sense too

Nuttypops · 23/06/2016 13:25

Brisgirl, what did they say they do instead or do they not? That seems like madness not listen to the heartbeat at all! I know that a change in movements etc would probably make us concerned earlier but I am amazed by this.

Any midwives or health professionals on here who can shed any reasoning on it out of interest?

Brisgirl · 23/06/2016 13:27

I'm in Greenbank, Bristol - weird that policies differ so much across the various trusts. I was booked in by a bank midwife so will hopefully have one of the staff midwives on Monday and I will check again. You're totally right though, I have a Doppler that I haven't used yet in this pregnancy although if they're not going to check at all then I will probably get it out next week!

Yorkiedodah · 23/06/2016 13:47

Had my scan yesterday got moved forward so now 13+5 due Christmas Eve. It was amazing baby was kicking waving and nuzzling his hand to his face. I say his because that what the sonographer said.. but when dh asked about the sex the sonographer said it was too early to tell. She said there is something relating to whether something is stuck up or down- she didn't mention what this was called.
But good news anyway. Because baby wasn't in the right position I had to get up around 3 times and move around and go to the loo. All in all a great experience much longer and in depth than dds 12 week scan over 3 years ago!
Might look for a private scan option now I'm nearly 14 weeks!

becciandbump · 23/06/2016 14:36

Can anyone start a new thread? Haven't got access to computer till later x

I anyone just not feeling very pregnant at the moment? I'm 15 weeks, and for the last couple of days my energy has returned, no more nausea and still no sense of movement, but my belly has begun to grow, don't fit the tightest of my usual trousers anymore.

I know they say it's normal at this stage but just feel so nervous, wish I could feel the baby move already!

Londonmamabychance · 23/06/2016 16:22

brisgirl, same for me, they didn't want to listen to the heartbeat at 16 week appointment which I had on Monday (although being only 15 weeks) and said it was due to new guidelines. Apparently, the problem is that the hb can be hard to find at that point, and if they don't find it, you will be worried but they still will not book you in for an assurance scan, as it is so common not to be able find the hb so early. So then you'll be stuck with worry and no solution.

I was very disappointed, as they did listen with my DD who's only 20 months. But there were a few times where they couldn't find it and it freaked both the mw and me out. But they did find it every time in the end. I'm almost considering getting a Doppler myself, but then, worried it would just stress me out more and make me obsessive. Am trying really hard to take this as an exercise in patience and faith and learning that you can't monitor and control everything, but just have faith all is well...

Theaks · 23/06/2016 16:39

My midwife listened to heartbeat at 15 weeks. I had a listen last week at midwife drop in. Maybe policy changing in areas. Which I don't think it is fair. I can't understand why they not listening in, ladies sometimes don't feel movements early on so that reassurance is nice.

SouthDownsSunshine · 23/06/2016 17:05

The heartbeat thing is odd. The midwife listened in yesterday at my 16 week, but my friend (same trust, midwives etc, a month ahead) was told they don't listen anymore.

Londonmamabychance · 23/06/2016 18:56

I guess the thing is NiCE guidelines are just that, guidelines. Each unit can interpret them
How they want. It gives them a reason not to listen in if they don't want to, but nothing stops them from doing it if they don't mind.
