We used to go to the in laws (who now only live 5 mins up the road) but since having dc3 & 4, have always stayed home with just our (rather large) family. My eldest's birthday is the 19th Dec, but she wasn't due until 6th of January, so she was a surprise early Christmas present, Ds was due boxing day but he was born on the 15th of December. Baby is due on the 9th and apparently my body seems to think the more babies it carries the longer it needs to keep hold of them for, I doubt I'll go over due but I'm dreading baby deciding to come on my birthday (the 6th) maybe we should think about the in-laws this year, it will be madness Shock

Bigfam · 20/06/2016 10:30

firawla I've just booked mine too Grin for this Sunday. I'm so excited!

Babydreaming · 20/06/2016 10:44

So I'm at my 16 week midwife appointment and they found the baby's hb on Doppler but said that it was very fast and sent me outside to drink some water! Has this happened to anyone else? I've read it could be because baby is very active. I don't feel dehydrated!

Nuttypops · 20/06/2016 10:47

Due on 4th Dec so a few weeks before Christmas, and hoping to have baby around then as DD was born close to her due date.

Unfortunately none of our families live close enough to pop by for the day, PIL live in N.Ireland but we saw them last Christmas and they never travel away for Christmas so imagine they will visit in early Jan to meet baby.
My parents live about 4 hours away and would move in with us given the option. Truthfully, I would love to just spend the day as the 4 of us in pjs, M&S food and no fussing. DD will be 2 so will enjoy the day but not old enough to understand the hype. We haven't quite broached how to tell my parents we don't want visitors though to be honest, but they will be here from early Dec for a while so I am really hoping they head home for a bit. I would love to see all of them on the day, but the fact we live near no one means they always have to stay and my parents, although wonderfully relaxed, are not easy guests for DH as they take over the house and make a huge mess so it is quite stressful, and they would come for 2-3 weeks rather than 2-3 days which is too much. I'm dreading this decision and conversation to be honest!

Bigfam · 20/06/2016 10:51

Babydreaming in my last pregnancy my baby's heartbeat was consistently high from about 20 weeks, they seemed to think it was her normal baseline heartbeat, but when she was born the mw announced she was corded, I'm still unsure of whether that could of caused it, what was the HB when your mW recorded it as fast?

Lovewatchingrainfall · 20/06/2016 11:13

That's a very good question about Christmas I'm due the 13th does anyone know how long they leave you until they induce you? My daughter was 6weeks early which was a shock to us. Just hope it does not happen this time.

I'm normally a big fan of Christmas and go over the top however this year I need to make sure I mega plan and make sure I have all the presents etc all ready.

Not sure if I should buy the baby a present incase it arrives on time or before Christmas? Husband says I am mad for thinking it.

Thisisbonkers · 20/06/2016 12:15

I'm due on the 4th (and I've told it it's coming on time! Grin) and am not planning to really do Christmas. My mum gets it and appreciates we won't be up for anything more than a token visit. DP's mum will be trickier to handle, I know he'll think it fine to host but I'm putting my foot down. Not happening! If they want to call in, great, but they can piss off again too! It's our first so neither of us really know what to expect and we're going to be utterly overwhelmed by it all. The last thing I want on top of that is fuss.

Helgathehairy · 20/06/2016 12:21

Just realised. We'll really need to have our mind made up so we can order the M&S food or not. We can't just wing it.

I'm leaning towards just staying home no matter what.

Babydreaming · 20/06/2016 12:32

It was 165, it came down to 155 after drinking! Gave me a bit of a scare but the reassured me it's common and nothing to worry about! Just need to drink more..

Babydreaming · 20/06/2016 12:33

My friend is an obstetrician and I spoke to her, she said 165 isn't abnormal at 16 weeks and reassured me!

Hello all.

Had 16 week appointment this morning (but I'm actually 17 weeks but was in Spain last week). All was good. Heard baby's heartbeat for the first time. Smile Spoke to midwife very briefly about labour and she said that as my labour with DD was only about 6 hours from first contraction to birth my second labour may only be 2-3 hours! In some ways I hope that's true as would rather get it over with, but slightly anxiety provoking as I need to get my Mum over (who will take about 45 minutes as not that local) to look after DD before we go anywhere, then have to get to the hospital etc and I would really like time to have some pain relief this time as I didn't really get any last time (unless you count the 2 paracetamol I took when I was at home and the TENs machine which no longer worked after midwife took the pads off to put monitor on).

Have also been wondering about buggies when you have a toddler too. I asked a question a couple of days ago in parenting talk about it if anyone wants to look. DH seems to think we can just use our current travel system and out a buggy board on the back, but I think they look really awkward and like you would trip over them the whole time. The general consensus from the thread I've started is that double buggys are a better option. I think I'd only get something second hand though as hopefully would only need the double buggy for about a year or so and then DD should be able to walk most places.

On the subject on those with toddlers / other kids, am I alone in feeling more apprehensive than excited at this point about #2. In all honesty I found the first 6 months with DD exhausting (she had colic and was an awful sleeper) and the thought of having to do it again with a 2-year old to run after as well (so pretty much no chance of any daytime naps for me) is just not sounding fun. Plus and this is where I may have to duck as I normally get dirty looks for saying this but newborns are just pretty boring really. I much prefer spending time with DD as a toddler now as we can play and have fun together.

Mejse · 20/06/2016 15:37

Had my scan today and everything was good. I got the test results back after 5mins and they were all low risk. My due date is still the 22nd. It took quite a while to get the measurement because the baby was standing on its head and really didn't want to move. That's the only picture we got. My next scan is booked for the 4th of August.

For Christmas we were meant to be going over to England but that won't happen now. DSS will be at his mums until about the 28th but hopefully we can arrange for him to come visit whenever it is that the baby arrives. In Denmark they celebrate in the evening on the 24th so we will probably spend that with dh's family if the baby is here by then or not. The 25th is dh's birthday and we will probably just have a lazy day

December 2016 babies... 2nd trimester in sight
StubbleTurnips · 20/06/2016 16:23

I don't want to go over so will be asking to be induced early if they'll let me (?). Christmas we usually host between 10 - 16 people but this year we'll be ordering m&s just for us 4 and spending it in our jamas, I genuinely can't wait.

cnchapmanxx · 20/06/2016 16:36

Is anybody else extremely fatigued?? Its got to the point im having to have naps when i get in from work and im sleeping 10/11 hours a night.

I had to be sent home from work today due to falling asleep on dinner. ive been to the doctors and they said they will do tests to see if im anemic but then said they couldnt provide me with a fit to work note so work can change my hours!?!? is this true??

Helgathehairy · 20/06/2016 17:09

cnchapmanxx that was me last week. I was shattered. Even Saturday I fell asleep on the couch while there was a very loud football game on the telly. I'm slightly better this week. I didn't go to the doctor - I just thought it was one of those things.

KitKat1985 · 20/06/2016 17:10

Good to hear about the good scan results Mejse. x

CnChpaman would your work be agreeable to changing your hours anyway so you are less tired, even if the Dr won't give you a fit note?

Re: Christmas I guess I have it slightly easier than some on this thread. As my new due date is the 28th of November (and DD was born a few days before her due date) I'm hoping I'll have about a month between giving birth and Christmas, so not too close together. That being said I think I'll get my Christmas shopping done before DC2 arrives to ease the pressure a bit -although no doubt I'll still end up having to do DH's with him a week before the day as bloody normal- I found after DD's birth last time I really unprepared for how exhausting everything is. I found going in to town for an hour wore me out in the first few weeks. We usually see my parents Christmas day and DH's on Boxing day (or vice versa sometimes). Will probably do the same this year -so I don't have to deal with the cooking and washing up- but I'm going to have to pre-warn DH's family we won't be staying all evening as we are often expected to arrive at lunchtime and stay until 9pm-ish in a household which will again have 9 adults, 4 'lively' small children (plus new baby) and 2 over-excited dogs and I just think that'll be too much. I'd like to be home by 5pm really. My family will be fine with us just staying for a few hours (frankly I think my Mum likes us to bugger off anyway so she can watch the Christmas special soap episodes in peace). Grin

cnchapmanxx · 20/06/2016 17:25

helga I thought so too but this is 3rd week running and I literally can't concentrate at work m head is dropping!! And I've still taken my vitamin d and folic acid tablets! X hope your feeling better now!

kitkat work said they would revise my hours but got to wait for my bloods to get back, even so 3 nights out of 5 I work til 8 and I'm pooped. I think what there trying to say is if I'm not anaemic they won't change them?!? Xx

MrsG32 · 20/06/2016 18:00

Hi guys don't think I've posted on this thread before! Had my 12 week scan today and I'm 13 weeks exactly. There's a couple of questions I had so hope you don't mind me asking and apologies for the long post! Firstly with my first, a boy, I did the combined test and got a high risk downs result. Had a CVS and thankfully he was all fine. It transpired I had a very low Papp-A (some kind of protein in pregnant women's blood I believe) so even though he was healthy they said he might stop growing at 20 weeks or have growth issues. After that I was scanned regularly but he was fine and born 5 days early weighing 7lb 11. I opted for the combined test again today but worried they'll ring tomorrow to say I'm high risk again - as I was last pregnancy does that mean I'm likely to be high risk this pregnancy?

Secondly, this is more light hearted, I've heard the nub theory/test is good for predicting gender before the second scan. The top pic is my first born who's a boy and the second pic is the scan I had today. What do you reckon? I'm thinking another boy? I'm not bothered either - expecting a boy as no girls in my family for years - but baby being healthy is the most important thing!

December 2016 babies... 2nd trimester in sight
barkingtreefrog · 20/06/2016 18:07

Helga and Chapman I fell asleep at my desk today and at lunchtime I went and had a kip in the back seat of the car as I was that tired. Got home and went straight to bed for another nap but despite being exhausted didn't manage to fall asleep. I really thought by 15+3 I'd have some energy back!
Really can't be bothered at work. I want to do nothing but go to bed!

Christmas we have spent the last couple of years abroad and pretended it wasn't happening, bliss! As we started TTC in December 2011 each year since then has just been a reminder of what we still hadn't got another year on, and Xmas is such a child focused time of year I found it really difficult to handle. I get quite emotional when I think that this year we could actually have a brand new baby, it would be the best Christmas ever. We're due 9th, but as it's our first I don't know if I'll be overdue. If it's close to the birth then we won't be going anywhere as the nearest family is over an hour's drive away and I'll just want to snuggle down with just the three of us at home. That would just be the most amazing thing.

Theaks · 20/06/2016 18:16

I don't think Christmas will be a problem for us too. Like you kitkat as the imposters on the thread hopefully baby will arrive around the due date of 28th nov. We too spend Xmas day and Boxing Day with opposite families so they sort out feeding us! 😊 My DH family normally do the pub on Xmas day, I always found this strange as it's something that we have never done. I always hate going so at least I can get out of it this year!

DH and I went to a mothercare event last week. We aren't ready to buy any bits yet but it was well worth going for the freebies and vouchers. I did buy myself a lovely pillow with the 10% off voucher. My DH has chosen his pushchair- he is very tall so chosen the silver cross wayfarer as the handles can be extended rather high. We plan on going back to another mothercare event when ready to buy so we can get another 10% off voucher.

Im 17weeks today and sickness completely gone which I'm pleased about. Although still feeling so tired all the time. Went to bed at 9 last night. DH followed me up 45mins later as he was lonely! Bless! I'm still waiting on my blood results as I only had them last Tuesday.

Can't remember what other conversations were going on. Too much going on- I can't keep up.

Ps lovely scans ladies xx

becciandbump · 20/06/2016 18:51

I love Christmas dinner and usually go all out cooking it although only for the 2 of us unless we visit family instead. I'm due 15th so hoping baby arrives on time Id be gutted if I had to eat an nhs Christmas dinner on maternity ward! I'm planning on enlisting the help of m&s will prob buy lots of ready prepared bits and a turkey crown and hopefully dj will put it all in the oven. Failing that my best friend nearby offered we could go to hers for our lunch x

puppythedog · 20/06/2016 19:00

Was it kitkat who was sharing worry about going up to two children?
The only reason I am not wracked with worry is because I am refusing to think about it.
I'm terrified about having enough time for DD, about how we will manage at the end of Maternity leave, how we will cope with the first six weeks and then six months.
The first six weeks for us before was really tough, Mrsthedog needed to just remain on the sofa as a sore milk supply meaning me trying to keep up with all house stuff, cooking, cleaning and a job. We were.m run ragged and next time there will already be a two year old!!

BristolLFR · 20/06/2016 19:01

That's useful to know theaks, we're going to a mothercare event tomorrow night. Also not planning on buying anything yet, but we both like to do plenty of research and gives us time to hunt out a bargain!

Christmas- expect we'll just stay at home unless baby is early. EDD 15th, we do alternate Xmas's with his / my parents, it's mine this year, but they're 3 hours away (his are still 2hrs regardless). Imagine we'll have a revolving door of visitors anyway though. I'd like baby to come early and then head up to my family as it saves having to deal with so many people decending on us, especially since it's a way to travel and people will want to stay.

On that subject, would I be rude to say people can only come as day guests, that we're not having anyone stay over? I'm not even that keen on people getting a b&b down the road. I get quite claustrophobic and the idea of having people hanging around all day when I'm shattered and trying to get to grips with breast feeding fills me with dread! It's a long way to travel for a day though!

puppythedog · 20/06/2016 19:13

Not rude at all.
