I've not used a tens machine, I'm planning on this baby just casually rolling out Grin

TipBoov · 21/06/2016 19:11

Ooh do you have a link to a tens machine? There's way too much choice online and lots of places are rental only.

Yorkiedodah · 21/06/2016 19:52

My local hospital had a waiting list for hospital tens machine which was a bit of a faff so I got this one online on amazon www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001DDZBHK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But I leant it to a friend who never thought it was much, whereas I used it to 6cm and then did g&a when it no longer had much of an effect for the pain.

It was pretty good for the lower back pain I had in the weeks leading up to dd aswell.

SouthDownsSunshine · 21/06/2016 20:48

Chapman the GP rolled her eyes but really I couldn't care less. She said 'oh some women do feel a bit sick past the first trimester'. I was a bit gobsmacked that she was so dismissive, but she gave me the note so whatever. I wouldn't want to ask her for any anti sickness medicine! She's had 3 children, with I suspect no sickness judging by her attitude.

tiny you look really slim with a lovely bump.

I loved my tens machine in labour with dd. Much better than gas and air. Although the codeine was also pretty good 😀 as was the spinal block!

TinySalmon · 21/06/2016 20:50

MrsJoJo I live in London and have been using my Baby On Board badge for the last two weeks or so. Mine came in the post within 5 days so maybe give them a call or just order another one online :)

TinySalmon · 21/06/2016 20:53

Xpost with you south. Can't believe GP said that! I'd be fuming!! Hope you find some sickness relief soon.

Thank you for your kind words too x

Sorry for double posting..!

Bigfam · 21/06/2016 21:04

I might have to invest in a tens machine, do they deliver an electric shock every time a contraction starts?

I've never had a spinal block or anything other than gas and air, I wanted an epidural with my first child but I went in only 1cm dilated and they sent me away saying I had hours ahead of me, we got home (10 mile drive) and I got in bed then said half an hour later we had to go back, they were ready to send me home again until they checked me and found out I was 8-9cm dilated, it which point I couldn't have an epidural.

StubbleTurnips · 21/06/2016 21:15

Don't remind me of the tens machine!! It really didn't work for me, and gave me burns which hurt more than the contractions.

Londonmamabychance · 21/06/2016 21:31

Hello everyone, was on the original December thread but now back! 15 weeks with second child. Have a DD of 20 months. Had my 12 week scan 2 weeks ago and all looked good, but now I'm feeling anxious because I don't yet feel baby move and when I went for 16 week appointment (they put me early) yesterday, they refused to listen for heartbeat, said it was too early to be able to tell for sure with the machine. And now the wait is until the 20 week scan. With DD they listened for heartbeat at 16 weeks and whenever I asked, it was so reassuring, but now they say guidelines have changed. It's rubbish. Have a bit of a bump already this time - last time didn't show till like 5 months! - so definitely showing much earlier this time round. But other than the small bump and some occasional twinges and constant discomfort in lower abdomen, no other symptoms anymore as nausea has subsided. Feeling g particularly anxious as I've decided to tell work tomorrow as I feel I can't hide the bump anymore (am quite slim so it's very visible) and don't rant specialties not and rumours to spread. But feel so anxious to tell when I don't know if all is okay. Know it's maybe silly to be so anxious, just wish I had some reassurance!

BristolLFR · 21/06/2016 21:34

Reeeeallly stupid question... I take it you can't use tens at the same time as waterbirth?

Ideally i want a water birth, but appreciate the rooms may just not be available on the day. Tens might be a good back up otherwise?

Loved a balloon or two in my clubbing days so looking forward to the gas and air!

SolomanDaisy · 21/06/2016 21:45

I used a tens until I got in the pool. Tbh the tens gave much better pain relief than the pool, but with spd the pool was great for being able to move around.

BowSurprise · 21/06/2016 21:53

How is everyone's weight gain going? I am 16 weeks and haven't gained anything but also haven't actually been sick. Starting to get a little worried about it although I've got a noticeable bump.

becciandbump · 21/06/2016 21:58

bigfam the tens machine will usually have a continuous or burst mode so you will feel either a continuous tingling or bursts of tingling at set intervals. You can turn up the intensity to suit your pain levels. Tens can't be used in water for whoever asked and shouldn't be used before 37 weeks pregnancy as it could trigger early labour.

I'm the same Bow. I've got a real little bump but have gained maybe a pound. Also haven't been sick at all. I googled it and it seems quite normal but will be checking with midwife on Thurs at my 16 week appointment. My boobs aren't really any bigger than pre-pregnancy either.

bumbleclat · 22/06/2016 02:46

SouthDownsSunshine I can't believe your Dr! You should complain about that- what a horrible woman!

BowSurprise · 22/06/2016 07:14

Thanks littlebear good to know and thinking about it my boobs have only grown slightly.

puppythedog · 22/06/2016 08:05

southdowns a complaint to the practice manager might be helpful. Or there is now an NHS choices website thing where you can review practice like on Tripadvisor. No need for sneering.

firawla · 22/06/2016 08:15

I still haven't gained a lot - about 1kg. Before pregnancy I had been losing about 1-2kg per week though with slimming world. I need to get stricter with that but with feeling sick i don't really fancy proper food, more stuff like plain crisps which is not great! We're having a new kitchen fitted next week so I'll have to live off ready bought stuff or outside food but after that I better force myself to go back to cooking proper healthy nutritious meals. Hoping sickness will improve by then!

I've never used tens. I bought it for the first couple of births then never ended up getting it out of the packet, and just sold it again on eBay

cupcakesam84 · 22/06/2016 08:35

Hi again everyone, I was in the original thread but didn't really read or post! I hope everyone's pregnancies are going well so far! I was hoping I can join in a bit more now! I'm 14+5, had my 1st scan, all was well!! This is 2nd preg, my DS is 7 months Smile

Bigfam · 22/06/2016 10:53

Hi all, I'm not computer savvy but over in chat there's a thread about new guidance for meds during morning sickness, your gp definitely should have been more sympathetic southdown.

Bigfam · 22/06/2016 11:02

No joy. Stupid phone Grin

Theaks · 22/06/2016 11:55

south I find women GPs so unsympathetic! You would think they could relate more than male GPs but no! When I had a missed miscarriage 2 female GPs told me to go back to work and get on with it whereas the males told me to take my time and kept signing me off. Put a complaint in.

Welcome back to the not so newbies!

Anyone suffering with hayfever. I'm in a state today 😔

BristolLFR · 22/06/2016 11:56

I've put on 3.5lbs so far bow. Most of that was wks7-11 when I felt my worst, I hadn't done any excercise and was living on beige food to keep the nausea at bay.

I was a good 1.5st overweight in the first place so can't really see a bump below the chub, but hoping it pops soon as the weight has gone to my middle.

Have just taken delivery of a huge order from gap :) going on hols wk17-19 and then a wedding te day we get back so had to go on the assumption my already tight stuff would no longer be fitting by then!

Bigfam · 22/06/2016 12:12

My hayfever is bad again and the weather here the past few days has been shite to say the least Angry my nose gets itchy and in have to make the most unladylike, awful pig snort noise to 'itch' it inside Blush
