With my daughter lets just say my MIL stressed me out so much. My DH on the other hand was praised by the nurses and everyone else in the room for keeping it calm. I told my Husband that I want to go in alone this time and him look after our daughter, he has said no way! So a bit of a sore subject in our house.

I looked at the Mothercare events but didn't know if they were good or not, might have to try and attend one love a good freebie.

Telling our daughter today and then husband is telling the MIL tomorrow when he sees her. I will message my mum to tell her as we don't have a good relationship.

The wait till the 20week scan seems to be taking so long. Having it in Bristol which is good apart from the fact it's when my husband has just come off 3 night shifts. So he is going to be tired.
Hope everyone is doing okay

cnchapmanxx · 21/06/2016 09:04

south was it easy to get s fit note? The nurse practitioner I seen said they don't give them so I was a bit shocked and also upset cause I'm getting that tired it's painful at work 😴😴

Re Christmas it's our wedding anniversary on the 21st, baby due on the 23rd so we will be staying home this time and my mam and auntie and family will come to ours hoping we will have the bundle of joy by then! We normally go on holiday for Christmas so will be strange being at home! Everyone else's plans seem so lovley ❤️❤️

TipBoov · 21/06/2016 09:25

I want to give birth alone this time £'(i.e with no birth partner) as I'd much rather DH was with DS during the birth than having to worry about arranging childcare/someone to take him to or from school etc. Also DH is very squeamish about blood and medical stuff - he fainted during the embryo transfer (AngryGrin).

He is quite hurt that I don't want him there though.. But I'd really rather just go in and get on with it!

TinySalmon · 21/06/2016 09:38

So glad everyone feels the same about Christmas - not really wanting overnight visitors when baby comes. It makes me more confident in telling my parents we don't want them here over Christmas.

I'm 14 weeks today and bump kind of making an appearance but has anyone else noticed they're putting on weight elsewhere too? I'm putting on a lot of fat around my hips and thighs...

DP says I have to start watching what I eat :/

Bigfam · 21/06/2016 09:50

barkingtreefrog your relationship with your dh sounds amazing and solid, its so lovely that you have each other and are so supportive.

Tinysalmon, your figure is gorgeous! My bump is huge Blush I think i'll loose sight of my toes by the end of July!
My first labour was only 6 hours, second 6.5 hours, third 2 hours & fourth 4.5 hours. I lost control a bit in my past labour and screamed at everyone that she wasn't coming out, I was so tired from moving house and when I was trying to manage the pain and breath dp came over with his mouth stuffed with crisps, asking if I wanted anything to eat, 'yes love a sick bowl and PISS OFF' I'm sure him being there made it all worse Grin

Nuttypops · 21/06/2016 10:58

Like others, I am concerned about suddenly having 2 children, particularly given DD is that little bit more independent now she is walking, talking a bit, feeding herself etc. I don't imagine she will be potty trained by the time DC2 arrives (she will have turned 2 in mid Nov) but hopefully by next summer so we won't have 2 in nappies for 2 long.

My main concern is that we live hours from any family and DH spends weeks on end away with work, and I found that hate when DD was little so with 2 I know it will be harder. He had to go back to work when she was 3 days old, we had only just been released from hospital after a lengthy and difficult birth and I didn't cope very well but thankfully both my parents and PIL were kind enough to come and stay locally for a few weeks to see us through to our house move when DD was 8 weeks and DH finally had some time off. I am hoping it may be a bit easier labour wise this time, and that the timing of Dec means DH can be at home with us for a bit.

It will only be DH and I at the birth. My Mom has offered both times but she later said she would have struggled with what happened during my last labour, and panicked so I am glad she wasn't. Hoping we can somehow work it out so she has DD whilst I am in hospital. Consultant led this time and a fairly detailed plan around labour in terms of what can/can't happen before we move to CS so I am hoping it will be a shorter stay in hospital.

So much is just about what happens though, and doing what is best at the time that I am trying to avoid worrying about it.

Thisisbonkers · 21/06/2016 12:19

I can't imagine anything worse than having my mother there! We get on well and she's been supportive through the pregnancy so far but she really doesn't need to be at the birth!

I have no birth plans other than as quickly and safely as possible. I'll take anything and everything Grin

I can't work out how much bump I have, whether it's bump, bloat or podge! I can still suck a fair bit in. 16+2 now and at the midwife on Friday. Will they measure bump? Do I suck my gut in or not?!

BristolLFR · 21/06/2016 12:39

Oww, headaches!

I don't normally suffer with headaches, but have had about one a week so far, uncomfortable but have worked through them.

Today and yesterday have been agony! Have been off work and just feeling sorry for myself in bed/ on the sofa. Had to go to the docs this morning as it was so bad I was in tears. Looked it up and it said best to go in if you don't normally suffer. He prescribed me naproxen but im worried to take them as the leaflet positions them as a last resort. Have opted for lying on the sofa with eyes closed and trying to breathe through it.

I don't know how regular headache/ migraine sufferers cope, this is horrid

Bigfam · 21/06/2016 13:43

I seem to only get headaches when going to bed or waking in the morning, almost like it's something to do with being horizontal?!

puppythedog · 21/06/2016 15:10

Those with headaches and particularly postural ones have you had your blood pressure checked recently?

TinySalmon · 21/06/2016 15:12

Thanks Bigfam that's really sweet of you to say!

I did some research and found women tend to put on weight elsewhere in their bodies to create fat stores for breastfeeding. Great Confused

I feel for everyone re: headaches!! I've had some awful ones recently where I'm on the verge of tears. Same thing as Bigfam that they tend to get worse when I'm horizontal. I've been keeping up my fluids and trying to eat well and getting loads of sleep but these headaches seem to have nothing to do with lifestyle - just another perk of pregnancy! I don't know how you ladies with existing DCs cope!!

TinySalmon · 21/06/2016 15:15

puppythedog yes - I've always had quite low blood pressure 100/65 or hovering around there. Not very low but quite low. Is this giving me worse headaches?

Admarks · 21/06/2016 15:23

Hi All, finally had my 12 week scan today and luckily all is well, slight adjustment to EDD which is now 30th December. Can you update me please kitkat?

I have a bit of a bump, but fairly sure it's food related as I've eaten more carbs and snacks in the past 3 months than probably the whole of last year! If I keep up, I will be the size of a house before baby comes!!

Not had any real headaches yet (other than if I've not drunk enough to) but plenty of people have asked about headaches so I'm expecting them soon. What did they start for for you bristol?

Going back to the Christmas chat- what are the ladies due after Christmas thinking of doing?I talked about hosting the families last year (now not an option) but equally don't want to be too far from my home/hospital if something were to happen early. My parents live about an hour away (via M25), so not too far but far enough to make me worried. My inlaws are 10 mins away but both smoke in the house so I don't really want to spend all day cooped up there (does that make me sound horrible?). This is my first so have have no idea if I'll be early or late!

BristolLFR · 21/06/2016 16:12

Hi puppy, have had mine checked weekly for one reason or another lately and it's been fine (can't remember the numbers though). Doc checked it this morning and was happy with it. Did have a slightly raised temperature though, and he said from the symptoms it was an especially bad tension headache rather than a migraine (never suffered from migraines so don't know the diff TBH, but heard they're bloody horrific)

BristolLFR · 21/06/2016 16:14

admarks been getting one a week-ish since wk7 and now on wk14. The earlier ones seemed to be when I was tired (mid week at work so would work from home the next day) where as this one came on a Monday morning after a 3 day weekend and has floored me

Bigfam · 21/06/2016 16:23

puppythedog I've not had mine checked since booking in back in may, I'm seeing my MW on 1st, should I mention to her, I assume she'll check my blood pressure anyway?

puppythedog · 21/06/2016 16:46

Mention to midwife or GP that headaches are worse when laid down.
One of the reasons for persistent headaches can be tension, muscular causes, another can be high blood pressure (plus can be lots more and I know very little about pregnancy health).
Normally people have a little drop when going from lying to standing and this is experienced sometimes as a dizziness.
I guess I was just thinking aloud that it worth asking about the persistent headaches.
Most important thing is to remember you are allowed some pain killers.
I definitely wouldn't be particularly worried.

barkingtreefrog · 21/06/2016 17:07

I'm still struggling with the headaches. Woke up at 2am with one so bad I was in tears. Got another one now after a full day at work. I don't think the computer screen helps.
The gp prescribed metoclopramide which is a treatment for sickness but also helps with headaches. It seemed to help. He said it was totally safe in pregnancy, usually used for morning sickness.
He checked my blood pressure but said there wasn't any risk of pre eclampsia before 20 weeks as there wasn't enough blood until then for it to be an issue.

They didn't start for me until 12 weeks, I'm now 15+4.

Bigfam · 21/06/2016 17:18

puppythedog thanks.

barkingtreefrog god that sounds tough, hope you're OK.

Yorkiedodah · 21/06/2016 17:32

Hi! Can I join?
I'm 12+5 with a 12 week scan tomorrow and I'm really nervous.
Its my 2nd pregnancy have my dd from first but I don't remember being this nervous- I think I just went with the motions that time!

Re the discussion of who to have around in labour. I had my mum and dh with me first time round. This time mum won't be there - she kind of took over a little although I was thankful for her being there weirdly enough.
No, this time we can do it ourselves. DH was great and was really supportive and useful. Apaarrrrttt from him playing around with the gas and air and trying to get off his head with it!!!

DartmoorDoughnut · 21/06/2016 17:36

Hi yorkie thanks for reminding me of the gas & air! I bloody loved that stuff Grin I wonder if they'll let me have some I recovery after the ELCS?!

Yorkiedodah · 21/06/2016 17:52

It is such beautiful stuff Dartmoor. Apparently I went all American Gangster on it- adopted an accent and everything - weird!

Bigfam · 21/06/2016 18:32

Yorkiedodah welcome, congrats and good luck with your scan tomorrow!

I've used gas & air in all of my pregnancies, not sure why though, it makes me feel like I'm completely off my head drunk Blush it does take the edge off though

MrsJoJo · 21/06/2016 18:43

Hi ladies!

Quick qu for those that work in or commute into London... I ordered my Baby on Board badge weeks ago and it still hasn't arrived. I only work in London occasionally so it hasn't been an issue but I have been there today, back on Thursday and have another appointment next week.

Do you think I should order another one?

TIA

Yorkiedodah · 21/06/2016 18:44

Thanks Bigfam I think I remember the drunk feeling. What really got me through was my tens machine. Got to 6cm with that. It really helped me through those hours. Gotta dig that out its been a while since I've seen it!
