Looks like I am the first one due 1st Feb but I tested very early as I felt weird and pregnant!

This is baby no 3 I have two DDs who are 2 and 3.

I thought about waiting, but my DH is the type who needs a bit of time to get used to things. Randomly he text me this morning saying he got nappies, I text back to say I'd picked some up too. It just seemed right to drop it in then so I said 'not to worry, looks like we'll be needing plenty' and text a pic of the test.

Hopefully it'll have sunk in by the time I get home!

wispaxmas · 25/05/2016 15:14

I told DH right away, I think he would be a bit funny about not being told right away. So even though I tested whilst on holiday with girlfriends I texted him a photo. If I'd waited for in person he still wouldn't know as he had already left for Paris when I got home on Monday and isn't back until later this evening.

Readytosettle · 25/05/2016 15:33

When's everyone planning to book in with the dr/midwife?

sleepylil · 25/05/2016 15:52

I will probably give my surgery a call next week to get the ball rolling as it took forever last time Confused

twocatsandatoddler · 25/05/2016 15:55

I've got a doctor's appointment for DS next week so I'll let the receptionist team know I'm pregnant while I'm there - not sure I'll actually need to see the GP as they didn't do much last time, just registered me with the midwife. Booking in appointment with midwife is usually at about 10 weeks isn't it?

I was classed as low risk last time so never saw anyone except my midwife but I guess I'll come under consultant care this time due to EMCS, was anyone else consultant-led last time? Are there lots of extra appointments?

Readytosettle · 25/05/2016 16:18

I think it's 8 weeks for booking in.

I was consultant led for thyroid, and there were quite a few extra apts up to 20 weeks and then I think I only had 1 after that. I guess it depends what they're monitoring you for.

wispaxmas · 25/05/2016 17:50

I'm going to try to self refer to the community midwives this time as it took ages last time! My booking by in wasn't until the same week as the scan, which was luckily booked separately.

Thinking of booking a scan privately for the week of June 20th.. My mom has been considering coming to visit (from Canada) for a week at the end of June, so it would be lovely to tell her then!

Readytosettle · 25/05/2016 18:36

I'll be private scanning too....and for the same reason as I did last time. Got a (boozy) work trip the first week in July so will want to check everything is ok before I start having to tell colleagues.

sleepylil · 25/05/2016 18:52

Awww that would be amazing wispa!

PhoebeGeebee · 25/05/2016 20:30

I downloaded the Emily Oster book last night so that will be bedtime reading for the next few weeks. I'm looking forward to having evidence to back me up against any of my DM or MILs comments about what to do and what not to do!

Ready - DH and I are planning shared leave too, so I'll also only be off for six months Sad How did you find it worked last time for you??

PhoebeGeebee · 25/05/2016 20:34

Also - got Drs appt next week which will start the midwife referral off. Not sure on date for booking appt yet.

Another one planning an 8 week scan. I can't imagine waiting for the 12 week scan!

This is my first so I'm completely shitting myself. When do I stop doing tests just to reassure myself?? (Done four since Saturday!)

MissClarke86 · 25/05/2016 20:36

Hi ladies, tentatively joining...

I stopped the pill on Nov, got pregnant straight away and miscarried in Feb.

Started trying again this month, and got a faint positive on a FRER just now! Trying not to get my hopes iPads it's still early days, and last time baby stopped developing at about 5 weeks. Fingers crossed this time things are healthier!

The internet predicts my due date as 2nd February.

MissClarke86 · 25/05/2016 20:37

iPads? Meant to say up!!

Readytosettle · 25/05/2016 21:23

Welcome MissClarke, was it a mmc or were you aware of it happening. The good thing about these groups is that we can support each other through these first few nerve wracking weeks!

Readytosettle · 25/05/2016 21:26

It worked well for us Pheobe, so nice to go back to work & not also be doing nursery runs/getting up in the night. It gave me a chance to settle back in before the real challenge of juggling two full time jobs & parenting a 1 year old kicked in. Also, it meant that DH has a complete understanding of how tough it is so there's no illusions on that front!

MissClarke86 · 25/05/2016 21:29

I started bleeding lightly very early on and went for an early scan which dated it earlier than I thought, and had to go back a couple of times to be rescanned before they were sure it wasn't viable. I started to miscarry naturally but it didn't complete so I had to go on for an ERPC. The worst thing was the waiting...I knew from that first scan that things weren't right, but had to keep waiting "just in case".

wispaxmas · 25/05/2016 21:39

Oh MissClark, the waiting must have been horrible, I'm sorry.. But congratulations this time, I really hope it's a sticky one.

The stats on miscarriage are a bit scary - I have to admit I've looked up chances of miscarriage by day in the first trimester.. it happens so so so often that I kind of feel like it's something I need to prepare myself for just in case.

I just googled self referral in my area and found an online form to do it, so I've just gone and done it, yikes! Now feel a bit like I'm jinxing things. I also requested an 'enhanced 12 wk scan' to be carried out at Kings, which wasn't an option for me last time around. Sounded impressive, a more detailed scan and you get the screening results within an hour instead of 1-2 weeks!

MissClarke86 · 25/05/2016 21:45

Yes miscarriage rates are scary...I think because tests are so efficient these days people find out much earlier than they normally would. Can't help being excited though!?

What do you mean by enhanced scan and early screening results? Sorry if I'm being thick! Does it screen for health conditions?

Due to my miscarriage I've been told I can have an early scan this time around, so that's good...I won't relax until after that I don't think!

sleepylil · 25/05/2016 21:53

Sorry you have been through such a tough time missclark. Everything crossed for healthy and happy 9 months for all of us!

Readytosettle · 25/05/2016 22:26

Sorry to hear that Missclarke, good that you'll get an early scan this time though. Fingers crossed this time will be fine x

wispaxmas · 26/05/2016 07:11

MissClarke, normally the 12-wk scan and blood test combine to make a screening test for downs and other chromosomies. This is from my hospital's website:

"You can now choose to have an enhanced 12 week ultrasound at the Harris Birthright Centre at King’s College Hospital – an international centre of excellence for fetal medicine. This includes:
• a more detailed scan, carried out by a specialist Fetal Medicine doctor
• results within an hour (rather than waiting 7-10 days)
• the opportunity to discuss your scan results with the same doctor, straight away
• an assessment of the risk of having your baby too early or of developing raised blood pressure
• Fetal DNA (Harmony) test if there is an increased risk of Down’s syndrome. This is normally only available privately and avoids the needs for the standard, more invasive test.
To book an enhanced scan, select Harris Birthright on your self referral form (see ‘Referral and contact details’ below) or let your GP know you would like to have your scan at the Harris Birthright Unit.
Pregnant women who decide not to have the enhanced scan can have a regular 12 week scan at Queen Mary’s Hospital."

It wasn't available last time, I don't think, but I like the fact that they do the DNA test instead of an invasive test if the screening results come back high!

Readytosettle · 26/05/2016 07:44

Do you have to pay extra for that wispa?

wispaxmas · 26/05/2016 08:10

No!

Readytosettle · 26/05/2016 08:15

Brill- maybe they're trialling it or something.

twocatsandatoddler · 26/05/2016 08:53

That sounds great - it it just for people registered at London hospitals that they're offering it at KCH do you know wispa?

Just tried to google self-referral but I'm in an awkward part of the country where the nearest hospitals to give birth are Essex and Cambs but the community midwives for my area are based out of a hospital in Herts so I have no idea which one to register with! Might just ask my GP surgery to do it next week to make sure I get registered with the right service. The midwife connected to my GP surgery last time was lovely so I hope she's still around!
