Looks like I am the first one due 1st Feb but I tested very early as I felt weird and pregnant!

My GP didn't test Lucy, just took me at my word. Bit worrying really as now I'm getting my nhs exemption for a year off the back of the appointment!

Lucy1308 · 06/06/2016 15:14

Maybe I will hold out until I've got a positive digi and then ring?! For some reason it feels like I will jinx it!!

lawyeredout82 · 06/06/2016 15:30

Did anyone else previously have a c section? I've got my booking in appointment at just over 10 weeks and have been told it has got to be at the hospital with a consultant midwife as I will need to discuss my "options". I take this as them wanting to try to convince me to have a natural delivery (which I don't want - have read all the literature - DD was a very late diagnosis breech baby).

Any advice/suggestions if so?

twocatsandatoddler · 06/06/2016 15:34

lawyeredout I had an EMCS with DS. I didn't know booking in had to be done with a consultant - I thought you made the choice further down the line anyway. I'm not ready to make a decision yet! I booked a midwife appointment through my GP receptionist and they just booked it for me without asking anything about previous CS.

CinderellaFant · 06/06/2016 15:37

Lawyer- my first baby ended in an emergency c-section (overdue, got started and was in labour for 4 DAYS and still only got to 4cm! Baby got distressed so emergency c section was needed) . 2nd baby they wanted me to try natural, said they would do a 'trial' natural birth for 4 hours and if nothing progressed then they would give me a section. I stuck to my guns and said I wanted a section and I got it. Planned section was the most laid back experience ever- I really enjoyed it! When DC2 was born the hospital told me any more children would have to be born by section so hopefully won't have to fight for it this time!

FriendlyGhost · 06/06/2016 15:46

Lawyer I had an emergency c-section with my dd and I intend to be absolutely insistent that I want another. They decided I needed one several hours into my labour due to a suspected big baby so although it was an 'emergency' it felt very relaxed. I want that experience again and as I'm at risk of a large baby I hope they agree easily. If not I'm willing to put up a fightGrin

twocatsandatoddler · 06/06/2016 15:48

cinderella that sounds like a more drawn out version of my experience - I was overdue, waters broke but labour didn't progress quickly enough and the induction drip was a disaster - it wasn't a high enough dose to progress the labour, and when they turned it up the baby got distressed and his heartbeat kept slowing dramatically. In the end I got to 8cm after 48 hours but his blood oxygen levels were too low so I ended up with a EMCS. Turns out he was back to back and had also engaged at a funny angle so the midwife said she doubted even a second time mum would have been able to push him out naturally.

I think I'm happy to go for a 'normal' labour as long as not induced, as I'm sure my problems were just related to DS's positioning, but there's not a chance in hell I'll be going on that drip again so I'm going to insist on a ELCS if induction looks like an option.

twocatsandatoddler · 06/06/2016 15:51

Does anyone have any experience of looking after a toddler after a c-section? That's the main thing putting me off having another as you're not supposed to lift anything heavier than your baby, and DS is 13kg at 17 months!

LaceyLee · 06/06/2016 15:59

Best if luck for those with spotting. I had it with dd about 3 times between 3 and 14 weeks and no idea why but pregnancy was totally normal otherwise. No idea about c sections but I've just filled in an online form to refer myself to midwives and it was one of the things the form asked about.

I think I spoke to soon when I said I wasn't tired!! I'm not at work today and just had a 2 hour nap along with sick dd (who had another hour!). Not looking forward to going to work...
I'm going to try to not tell anyone til the 12 week scan - anyone else? I just don't want to worry anyone as I had an mc before dd. I think my mum might guess if I'm this tired though. I also look very pale and slightly ill, nice!

Jojoclaire · 06/06/2016 16:54

I think I'm going to hold off as long as poss, laceylee I told a close friend for moral support but don't feel like we need everyone knowing if we have an MC, I'm a bit older (37) and don't look forward to the "pity faces" of friends and family if the worst happens. Blush

Ive come up with an amazing runny nose/irritating cough combo this wknd, not sure if it's a cold - I read in my pregnancy bible that sinuses can get inflamed and runny nose is common... Anyone else??

lawyeredout82 · 06/06/2016 16:54

Thanks everyone - I am going to insist that I want another c section this time and see how I get on.

It was one of the things I mentioned on my self referral form which is why I've gone straight into the consultant level - they are going to try brain washing me early!!

CinderellaFant · 06/06/2016 17:20

Sounds very similar twocats!

DS was 2.4 when I had my second section. I stayed in hospital two nights but was up and walking around the same day I had her. Recovery was so much easier than from the emergency section. DS just had to be careful when sitting on my knee and stuff but I coped really well, just keep on top of the painkillers! I was driving again within 2 weeks. I hope I'm the same again, I've got school runs to do!

HighHopes16 · 06/06/2016 17:29

I'm going on holiday with my family at the end of July so we're planning on telling them then. I should be about 12 weeks so hopefully we'll have a scan picture to show them- I can't wait!! Grin

twocatsandatoddler · 06/06/2016 17:34

That's encouraging cinderella. My recovery wasn't awful from the EMCS but it did take me about 3-4 weeks before I could walk the 15 mins into town. But then I had spent two days in labour where I hadn't slept, and then 4 sleepless nights on the post-natal ward, plus feeding issues and a nasty bout of mastitis so I was not in a good way for several reasons unrelated to the c-section!

CinderellaFant · 06/06/2016 17:40

The day after I came home, so 3 days post section, I hoovered my living room floor because the state of it was driving me mad! DH left to his own devices for a few days didn't bother to do any housework. He's been well warnec this time already lol

clementineclouds · 06/06/2016 17:48

okay if I join in?....expecting first baby in very early feb.

Dutchy88 · 06/06/2016 18:05

Took a digi today and got 1-2 so I'm pleased with that. It's had a bit of spotting but it's dark so I'm hoping it's ok. I never had any first pregnancy so am a bit overwhelmed by it all.

FriendlyGhost · 06/06/2016 18:24

Is anyone else feeling really sick already? I'm not even late for af yet but today I have a bad headache and I've felt that familiar sickness for the last two days which is why I took the test. I didn't really get any symptoms until about 6 weeks with dd so this seems very early.

Readytosettle · 06/06/2016 18:27

Interestingly my local mum friends have who had emcs last time are all being encouraged to go for elcs this time, even the ones who were quite keen on vbac have been talked out of it. Maybe the policy varies by area? I didn't have a c-section last time but did have a pretty long/traumatic birth & plenty of stitches and tbh some of my c-section mates were back up & running quicker than I was, so given the choice I'd quite like to go for a elcs....don't think I'll be able to persuade the hospital tho unless 'I don't want to go 16 days overdue & have my vagina ripped to pieces again' would count as a good enough reason!

HighHopes16 · 06/06/2016 18:31

I had my first feeling of sickness today but it didn't last for long, really hoping I don't get it bad as I won't be able to easily hide it at work!

Dutchy88 · 06/06/2016 18:45

I had an elcs first time around (breech baby who would not be moved even by ecv). I was told afterwards I would definitely be allowed a cs next time and I think because of the short gap (there will be 17m between babies) they wouldn't push for anything else.

Lucy1308 · 06/06/2016 18:52

Jojo I've had horrible sinus congestion for about a week now. It's disgusting. The sort that when you sniff it makes your head rattle with that horrible sticky snot (nice!!). Just thought it was my usual hayfever congestion but hayfever is back with a vengeance today and it hasn't shifted so think it must be hormone related. Yay. So thus far I look like a hormonal teenager, my nipples tingle on a night and my nose rattles when I sniff and whistles when I breathe out... How OH keeps his hands off me I do not know!!

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 06/06/2016 18:54

Friendly ghost - I get waves of sickness, usually first thing in the and in the evening. The rest of the day I'm fine and often forget,

I started getting queasy about 10DPO that's when I knew I needed to test!

lawyeredout82 · 06/06/2016 19:23

Dutchy88 that's good to know as my daughter was breech too - there will be 2 years (to the day!) between my daughter and this baby. My breech was only diagnosed at 39 weeks because I got sent for a growth scan as my bump was small - was even told by the midwife that very morning that everything was in the right place, just not engaged!!! Had the shock of my life in the scan when they said I couldn't go home and had to deliver by c section pretty much straight away!

wispaxmas · 06/06/2016 19:38

Lucy, mine don't test, either. Last time I called when I was 5 weeks and they had me in to basically just tell them the date of my last period, ask if I was taking folic acid, and refer me to the midwife. It was such a short appt!

Lawyered, Have you looked at the NICE guidelines? I believe they say that if a woman has had a previous Caesarean section that she may choose to have another, but just should be educated as to the pros and cons of a VBAC. So just stick to your guns. You'll probably find midwives less receptive to it than consultants, though. My first pregnancy the midwives kept telling me about the wonders of home birth and how as a low risk patient it would be the best option for me and how I'd get 2 to 1 personal midwife care and attention, etc, etc, and in the end it would have been the WORST option for me due to completely unforeseen complications that had nothing to do whatsoever with how my labour progressed in hospital. Sorry, tangent. Stick to your guns and know your rights!

twocats, my sister had a section with her second and had a 2 year old as well. She had our mom stay with her for a week after she came home, but by the end of that time she was perfectly fine getting on with it and could lift up her first for cuddles and everything.

I'm still spotting, pink and red when I wipe, but nothing heavy. I think I'm going to ask to be referred to the EPU when I see the GP tomorrow. Balls to the potential of not seeing anything, I'll be 6 weeks on Wednesday and as I was temping I know my dates are certain, so they SHOULD be able to see something.
