Thank you Bear, Basket and Mlsg. It's so stressful and totally unnecessary. Palpitations is exactly what I felt. Now I'm upset but somehow relieved! Mlsg I hope things are sorted now! 💐

Britney you don't! On a PC it's slightly easier as you can type on another browser tab or a different software while you check the thread. On my phone I find it impossible, unless you use your notes, which is what I'm doing now!!

Mlsg I would go if I were you. Just make sure you'll have access to medical care etc. It will be so lovely!

We went to Fuerteventura. It was a little bit 'Brits abroad' in places but very lovely overall!

Fizzy you should call the physio, hopefully they can help.

Sophia I had to interview and recruit someone to cover for me. But she's staying on afterwards, so that's slightly different. I have a very capable business partner though, and the accountant was also helpful. So I didn't actually have to do an awful lot!

becksmumtobe · 06/05/2016 07:15

morning Smile

Thanks for the welcomes! Just updating the list - hopefully this is right lol...

Quite a few of you keeping a surprise until the end! I don't know how you do it, I'm really struggling to think of names when I know to choose girls names!

I'm def starting a bit of a waddle now, I don't really have a big bump and sometimes I'm sure I just look chunky but is it just me or is everything starting to get more difficult - like turning over in bed etc?!!

How are you ladies finding it at work? I am really struggling to get motivated these days Hmm

rumisyum · 06/05/2016 07:33

Gosh, Stranded, what a palaver with your family. People seem to literally lose all common sense around the birth of a grandchild. We didn't even tell either of our parents that I was going into labour (& goodness knows we had enough time to Confused), but informed everyone after we were snugged up at home again. No visitors till day 4 (though we had been out before then), which was definitely the best decision for us - like you, I felt really strongly that I wanted some time to just be the three of us for a while. I remember the day 4 visit all too well! All my in-laws descended & stayed all afternoon & I was trying to breastfeed discreetly & stay sociable through all that... When they left I was utterly exhausted & both the baby & I had our first meltdowns. Plus my nipples were ragged from tolerating bad latches all day due to trying to be discreet. It's different for us this time as we need others around from the start to help with my son, but I still plan to have it on my terms. And this time I'll know to stay in my dressing gown & just go back to bed with the baby whenever I feel like it! Anyway, that was long, but I hope your mum & sisters get over themselves & realise this is about supporting you in the best way you need.

rumisyum · 06/05/2016 07:37

Mslg, you poor thing! I'd definitely consider going out to be with him for a bit if you can.

Sophia, I'm so sorry you're having to sort all that out. Sounds pretty unreasonable to me.

I am also starting to struggle with work quite a bit. Fatigue & poor concentration & general can't-be-arsedness. Two more months to go till I start annual leave/mat leave...

Also doing the sexy pregnant waddle over here. I had to wriggle out of my car in a tight parking spot the other day & I'm sure I looked a proper sight to passers by! Blush

mlsg I think a break would be lovely - South Africa only had a one hour time difference too so you wouldn't have to deal with jet lag. The only thing is the flight time is really long! Make sure you get flight socks and book an aisle seat so you can move around a lot.

ToElleWithIt · 06/05/2016 08:27

Hi All,

Stranded definitely stick to your guns on this. My family nearly drove me to the brink after DS was born and it's one of my biggest regrets that I let them do it. Possibly Irish families are on a par with Italian families in this regard? The lot of them flew over as soon as I was in labour. Mercifully weren't staying with us, but came round as soon as I was home from hospital bearing bottles of champagne and holding cameras and stayed for hours playing pass the baby while I ran around getting glasses and nibbles etc. Next day Mum rang saying she'd arranged a lunch - 45 minutes away with 3 of my aunts and she'd see me there with DS... very important to get out of the house - would prevent PND apparently (though why she was concerned about this I don't know), and so it continued with endless rounds of relatives and cups of tea and drinks parties (FFS). In the end DH has to have stern words and send them packing before I ended up back in hospital. Anyway don't be me is what I'm trying to say! BTW my family are actually nice, or well-meaning at least, just exhausting. This time their participation will be limited to taking the toddler for a few hours so that I can park up in bed with the new baby.

rumisyum A lot of what you say rings true. I was really really neat last time round, definitely bigger this time. I'm also kind of nervous about the baby stage too. DS was an appalling sleeper and I'm dreading that this one will be the same. Two plus work is going to be hard, but hopefully it will ease a bit when they're older. DS is at a super cute stage (I much prefer toddler stage to baby) and I am looking forward to spending more time with him.

mslg If your pregnancy has been complication-free and your insurance would cover any health expenses then personally I'd go to SA. I'm flying to Canada for 5 days tomorrow. I'm feeling good so no concerns about going. It may be the last chance to fly long haul for a while and SA is fab!

Basket I had the vista. It's super pram, nice big bassinet and seat, great quality and I loved the huge basket. It is big and heavy though so I didn't like it on public transport and getting in and out of car (same with all travel systems). It was perfect for long walks from the house though. I'm ended up getting a BabyJogger City mini GT and just bought the double for this one!

All good here, tiredness is cranking back up a couple of notches. Looking forward to the 5 days in Canada. Even though it's work, it'll be a nice change of scenery. I'm getting wobbly about leaving DS though. This will be the longest I've ever left him.

MrsSantaClause · 06/05/2016 08:38

Wow, massive catch up, didn't realise how long it had been since I last checked in! I've got a slight waddle, thought it'd be a good idea to walk ds to playgroup rather than use the car yesterday and was in agony when I got back!

Will add myself to the stars in a bit-got to do the playgroup run-in the car today Wink

mslg It was on a website called Discount baby equipment :)

Elle those are the worries I have, I do live in London at the moment so public transport is an issue but I want an all rounder that will be good in parks/woods/countryside too. We are planning to move out of London but that depends when DH gets a new job so its really hard to know what to do for the best! I was looking at the City mini but I want something that can be rear facing too. The perfect pushchair just does not seem to exist sadly!

bearhuggy · 06/05/2016 11:15

hello gang,

santa nice to see you back, hi! Take it easy and make use of those wheels :)

elle have a great time in Canada, change of scenery is always nice.

becks & rumi i am finding baby brain is all consuming these days, very hard to get work motivated when I am day dreaming of cots, boob pumps and hospital bags !! Feel it's just going to come around so so quickly now so I have a list ongoing of things to get done...hard as we have to wait to move house to get cracking on the nursery, but will be worth it when we finally have some more space.

Those talking of the Vista, I was really sold on it when I was doing my research, such a great all round pram. The only negative for me was being 5ft4 I found the lowest handle setting just a little too high / uncomfortable when pushing and it didn't have a solid lock on the handles at it's lowest so didn't feel as sturdy as others. But this may not be a problem for most. We have gone for the Buffalo for countryside/walks and the Bee for London..I really wasn't planning on getting two but my mum has a nursery agency up in Cheshire and these two happened to come into the shop in near perfect condition last week so it must have been some kind of pram fate ! Talking of my mum's shop, she has some really fab things in so if anyone is based that way you should take a look - www.kids-exchange.co.uk/ Lots more great stock / prams / nursery items in the shop as she's not very good with the online side of things !! If anyone is interested in anything just let me know, would be happy to help.

Just had by blood results back from yesterdays appoint, glucose fine but my iron levels are slightly low, so she has recommended I take more supplements. Anyone else had low iron and have any good tips to upping it naturally ? ..I am pescatarian which I fear may be where the issue lies perhaps...hmmm. Thoughts?

prettyflowers111 · 06/05/2016 11:46

Gosh I've been away so long!!
Nothing much to report over here... I'm also very furry, my belly could rival oh's! Spd has started playing up a bit but manageable at the moment.
I've sent off all my maternity forms.... yippee. Going on maternity from 39 weeks but taking 2 weeks annual leave before that so leaving at 37 weeks. I'm literally counting down the weeks to it.

Had some dodgy blood results back that even the consultant and lab tech can't explain. Basically my 12 week bloods, and repeat bloods at 17 weeks, are testing positive for HepB.... but apparently 'not in the way they would normally see'. It was assumed that the 12 week ones were a false positive given the way they came back... but they came back the same when repeated. I had a clinical assessment done and have no other risks or markers (haven't left the country since the birth of my dd, bloods then we're fine, no drugs, no other sexual partners etc etc), plus no symptoms. They are still telling me that I probably DON'T have HepB given that its not a normal positive, and that it may just be I'm an oddity with weird blood. Still a worry though and all they can do is retest after 3 months which will be around 29/30 weeks. The doctor at the lab called me himself as he really didn't know what to say as he's never seen a result come back in this way before. (He did start explaining the technical jargon to me but unfortunately all I heard was blah blah cells blah blah reactive components blah). There's always one eh?

Hope everyone is well.... I'm just so so glad to have gotten past the 24 week mark! Still feels to early to start buying. .. I think I'll start at 30/32 weeks :)

strandedabroad · 06/05/2016 12:20

What a faff! Had my whooping cough appointment today but they turned me down as I'm not 28 weeks yet... Hmm

The midwife had said from 28 weeks, so I phoned the doctor a few days ago to say I needed it by X date, and the receptionist said the rules have now changed and I should have it from 20 weeks! OK then I say, and she gives me an appointment at 26 weeks! Off I go today and no, the nurse hadn't heard of the new rules and sent me on my way... The funny thing was, when I went to reception and told them I needed to rebook and why, she looked at the calendar and said 'next week then?' Erm, hello?

Oh well. Bit of a waste of time but no biggie. I thought I'd let you know in case it avoids a similar situation for any of you!

Suziesome1 · 06/05/2016 15:47

Hey bear, I'm vegetarian, so am especially aware of my diet since being upduffed. Spinach broccoli and Marmite are my iron and b12 friends :) also a lot of cereals are fortified with iron. Raisons and nuts (protein also) which I chuck over weetabix in the morning gives me a good dose before I've even left the house, vitamin c helps with absorption so I try and have some OJ alongside. I really really really don't want to be taking iron tablets as I've heard they can really bung you up, so time will tell if I've done enough, but I certainly don't feel anaemic/tired etc. Sorry if you know/are doing all this already!

strandedabroad · 06/05/2016 15:49

Also thanks Rumy and Elle - and yes to the Italian/Irish thing! Having big (and possibly Catholic) families is normally lovely but jeez it can be stressful at times!

Mslg · 06/05/2016 17:07

Must be a catholic Italian/Irish thing. I'm home in Ireland for the weekend and have opened a can of worms by saying we won't be getting the baby christened Shock
Thanks all for the advice on travelling to SA, still in two minds about it at the minute!

Happy Friday everyone! 🎉

bearhuggy I know exactly where your mum's shop is - I grew up in Wilmslow!

plimsolls · 06/05/2016 20:19

strandedabroad Well done for standing your ground. My friend is married to a lovely Italian woman and for both their DSs she felt under pressure to move back to (a different city!) to live with her family for a month or so after each birth.

mslg Of course do what feels right but I'm sure you wouldn't regret the trip to SA. And I hope you're ok without your OH at home for so long Flowers

prettyflowers Hope all is well with your bloods, its frustrating when doctors are happy to settle for "oh just one of those weird things" I always want to know exactly why/what/how!

basket and other pushchair wonderers.... I have been told by my very organised and diligent friend that she chose the Vista after lots and lots of research, and she is very very happy with it. She said that many of her friends also have the Vista so it must be good. (Apparently the ones who don't have the vista, have a bugaboo but I can't remember which model) I can't decide what type of pushchair I need let alone which model. I'm very keen on the Urbo2 but I'm not sure how much I'm being influenced by the fact I like the way it looks. WE don't have a car and live in the middle of London so I'm currently trying to figure out if a travel system will be complete overkill OR really helpful for journeys where we travel by train and are met by family members with cars....

The posters (lily and sophia maybe?) who are feeling demotivated with work- oh my god yes. I have never ever been so demotivated. It's partly because my bosses are doing my head in, partly because my maternity package is rubbish and partly because I just care more about the pregnancy than anything else, but I am definitely feeling that work is a slog right now.

I'm not waddling just yet but I do a nice range of huffs, puffs, and groans when changing position or putting my shoes on.

plimsolls · 06/05/2016 20:20

my capitalised "WE' was just a typo and not an "it's not fair WE don't have a car and other people do" sulk, by the way!

MrsZumbaDancer · 06/05/2016 20:28

Loads to catch up on!

Feel like I'm coming down with the lurgy, must have been about a month since I last had it-joys of a toddler at nursery! Sore throat is how it always starts..

anyone else freaked out by baby movements. With my Ds it was rolls and kicks but with one it's like it's turning somersaults, feels like it's kicking my bits from the inside and getting in some really weird positions. Last week I swear I had a bum or head sticking out right under my ribs, hurt so much til it moved!

mrszumbadancer My baby kicks me in what I think is my cervix (?) all the time. It is such an odd sensation!

Longtimelistener · 06/05/2016 21:36

Welcome Becks and Britny

Right, I wrote a really long post a few days ago and then got distracted and lost it, so will try and keep this brief just in case! Apologies for not remembering any names Blush

For those asking about iron, the midwives have always recommended Spatone to me. It's a sachet of iron water that you pour into a glass of orange juice (so you're getting your vitamin C hit at the same time). It's a lot gentler than prescription iron supplements, so doesn't affect your digestion in the same way.

For those of you thinking of booking flights, check with the airline whether they will allow you to travel. The rules might have changed, but when I was expecting DS we had to cancel our holiday because most airlines won't let you fly after 30-32 weeks (The air pressure can apparently bring on early labour!)

Shattered after a nightmare day today. DS was sick in the car on the way back from swimming this morning. We complete on our house sale next Wednesday, and I have so much to do, but I feel like I've spent the whole day cleaning the sick out of his car seat - yuck! Of course, he was right as rain five minutes later..thank goodness!

Sophia1984 · 06/05/2016 22:06

Oh that sucks that your DH is away Mslg I'm rubbish when I'm apart from mine for a few days but maybe with it being longer it gives you a chance to get used to it.

I had a hellish day of transport to get to hen do, but am now at my Air BnB and it has a bath with taps half way up the side so I am in pregnant lady heaven! At home, our overflow pipe started leaking cause ie been having so many baths! Blush

OwlinaTree · 06/05/2016 23:05

plimsolls if you are using lots of public transport, might a sling and a folding stroller be a better option than a travel system?

I've mentioned before I've got the oyster, I'm very happy with that, it's a little cheaper than the vista and bugaboo.

MrsSantaClause · 07/05/2016 07:58

Oh, I forgot to say, went for my boob scan and all fine, they said it was just thickening if the skin due to pregnancy hormones, so not to worry. Got to go back in 3 weeks to check. Smile

I've got the icandy peach, and love it, also thinking about getting a sling, but gave absolutely no idea where to start as haven't had one before...

Those worrying about getting nurseries ready, I wouldn't rush too much as the baby will be in with you for the first few months anyway .

I've been sanding down the other bunk bed this week ready to paint, I did the first one a couple of weeks ago. Can't wait til that's done!
