Mollie - Don't worry, it's completely different with your own. That said, even feelings for your own can take a little while to kick in.

Oh my god, babies arriving next week? Don't you all clear off to the May postnatal thread! :) Some of us will still be waiting in July I'm sure! I'm hoping I've still got a month or so to go, will be finding out from my consultant tomorrow. Eek!

iamdivergent · 02/05/2016 09:11

I've still got 6+6 til due date so potentially there could be a thread #10 the rate we chat Grin

I have no feelings towards friends babies, but I have to say my niece melts my heart Smile She's 10wks now and so cute, full of smiles and coos when we saw her yesterday, I even changed her stinky nappy lol.

MindfulBear · 02/05/2016 09:47

Morning!
Gosh. Babies due next month (or next week for you neharag!)

Cannot compute this.....

Btw those of you who have more than 1...... Is it true 2nd babies come earlier? Nearly freaked out yesterday when a friend told me this. (& her 2nd was a week before the edd). I am not prepared for that to happen.... Have not even decided when to stop work yet as I am in complete denial so thought I might work for as long as possible - ie until I really cannot manage it anymore so could be up to the due date...... But if #2 is early .... WHAT?! Can't cope with that idea....

So is it true 2nd babies come early? Or is this a myth?!

JellyBaby26 · 02/05/2016 09:55

Mindful I don't think there is any truth in that. Obviously for some they do come earlier but it's baby dependant.

My friend had her dd at 38 weeks and fully expected to do the same with her ds. She was very dissapointed when he was overdue....

booked83 · 02/05/2016 09:56

Hey ladies sorry been quite still in hospital trying to control my blood pressure it's been all over the shop and the amount of drugs I'm on is stupid... I couldn't remember half of them if ever get home! Confused growth scan this morning!

iamdivergent · 02/05/2016 10:21

Dd1 was 2 wks early, dd2 came on her EDD so a total myth - the baby will come when it's ready.

booked hope they manage to get you stabilised and you can get back home soon Flowers

clarish84 · 02/05/2016 12:01

mindful for some people it will be true others no everyone is different. My first was 39 +6 my second 41+3 and the twins was 37 + 1 which is as far as they would let me go with the twins and they pratacally needed blowing out they was not for moving lol pregnancy is just one of those things no one knows x

Cartooner · 02/05/2016 13:29

Hi all it really is the final stretch! I've five weeks from tomorrow. Today I am ridiculously uncomfortable, I am not particularly large, my bump is actually small according to midwives etc. but I am sooo uncomfortable in recent days, right down where the head is, I can't get comfortable sitting at all and walking around. I've PGP but honestly don't think I can make my way into work. It feels quite strange! Moan over. I never felt like this on my other three, it's like the baby has shifted right down and my body is resisting!

bikingintherain · 02/05/2016 14:49

mindful I was 42+1 with number one and 41+5 with number two. I really hope I'm earlier this time but I'm not banking on it.

Sorry to hear your blood pressure still isn't under control booked, it must be pretty frustrating for you. Have the doctors given you a timescale or plan yet? Or is still very much wait and see how the meds work?

cartooner, I've pretty much given up walking and biking now. The only thing I can face us walking up the stairs to my flat, and even then it's because I have to! I'm trying to work from home more. But even sitting still hurts if I do it too much. Lying on my side is the only thing that doesn't cause pain but I can't work and do that!

nehagarg · 02/05/2016 16:36

Hope it comes under control quickly booked.

Just got given a lot of hand me downs from a friend. Stuff her boy has outgrown. Though I appreciate it a lot - EVERYTHING is blue!! Lol. Thankfully my parents at least bought us some gender neutral and white baby clothes. I am having a boy but I definitely didnt want to put him in all blues every day. Hmm Its amazing how generous people are though. We havent bought anything ourselves, except the very first baby grow after the 20 week scan.

OP posts:
MollieRos · 02/05/2016 17:02

nehagarg I have exactly the same- I'm so appreciative for all the clothes we've been handed down from one of my very kind friends but every single item is blue!! I'm feeling so ungrateful but I really don't want a blue baby all the time. I might need to start reminding DH to mention that we're overwhelmed with blue and are on the lookout for other colours when he speaks to his parents- they're almost certainly going to buy the baby things.

iamdivergent · 02/05/2016 17:08

I've got alot of blue but we have tons of bright colours and neutrals as well.

bikingintherain · 02/05/2016 17:27

Urgggh I just had a rubbish mw appointment. She was lovely but it wasn't all good news. The baby is transverse, which I kind of knew anyway, but at 35 weeks she said it wasn't worth worrying about yet. Another week and we'd see where we were up to.

But then she measured bump, which was small for dates, and so then did an ultrasound there and then. But that showed the baby being even smaller. So I've got to go in for a scan either tomorrow or Wednesday at the hospital to see if there are placental issues. And then depending on that and growth we could be looking at an early induction.

The appointment was booked to be discussing where I wanted the birth etc, but she said there was no point at this point as all that could well be dictated by being under consultant care unless they discharge me back to her. So not quite the chilled out appointment I was expecting!

booked83 · 02/05/2016 17:52

*bikinking sorry you mw app wasn't as relaxing as you wanted... Harry keeps going transverse!! It's not comfy...

I'm home... Mount of tablets I have to take is stupid have to set an alarm to remember when to take them! Confused mind moody husband could send me back in! Honestly!

iamdivergent · 02/05/2016 17:57

Oh no biking fx it's all OK

MadrigalElectromotive · 02/05/2016 18:08

Hope all is well biking. It must have been quite a shock.

Cartooner · 02/05/2016 18:42

That's a pity bikingintherain I hope you get some good news, I'm sure the pain is not helped by baby's position.

I'm having my 4th boy so blue everywhere in this house even though I don't really like the colour that much. I went and bought some lovely grey bits with ducks on it in M&S and I love to occasionally splash out on tops from the swedish brand Polarn O Pyret as they wash so well they are worth the extra few bob, my three year old is wearing a top I bought for my first son and it still looks new.

MollieRos · 02/05/2016 19:33

Oh dear biking fingers crossed you get some positive news at the scan.

And great news that you're home booked, despite the cocktail of tablets!

AmIseeingRight · 02/05/2016 19:45

booked hope things improve and you can relax at home. bikin good luck with the scan tomorrow, it's always scary when you get told you might need to have baby early to be safe. neha I get my possible induction date on Friday, feeling nervous but whatever will be will be so June babies may turn out to be a few May babies at this rate. Fingers crossed for all Smile

cautiousoptimist1 · 02/05/2016 19:45

Fingers crossed biking hope all is well.

booked glad you are back home, hope everything settles down for you soon.

Has anyone got any recommendations for buying pyjamas and something for labour? I was hoping primark would have some dark pjs in a bigger size rather than maternity ones but haven't found any yet. I know that whatever I wear for labour should ideally be old and a lot of people end up nude but I don't think that'll be me and I don't have anything old that would be suitable, I do want to do skin to skin afterwards. Should I be considering a lightweight dressing gown too?

MadrigalElectromotive · 02/05/2016 20:01

Cautious Mothercare had some nighties and lightweight dressing gowns in last time I was in there, and I thought they would be good for labour. Perhaps not quite as cheap as Primark but they weren't massively expensive. I'm having a c section so don't need anything for labour but will have a catheter after delivery so needed a couple of front opening nighties and that's where I got mine.

dollydaydream84 · 02/05/2016 20:06

biking sorry the appointment didn't go as hoped. If it makes you feel better my friend had weekly growth scans from 28 weeks, they worried her sick about placenta issues etc and said how small her baby would be. She had a 7lb baby a week early with no issues and birthed naturally. However, it is good they are monitoring you but you might still get the birth you want at the end of it so maybe not as bad as the picture they are painting I hope! xx

cautiousoptimist I had an old nightie for labour, cannot remember being changed into a hospital gown for my EMCS but someone must have changed me - haha! Though I might as well have been naked as everyone had seen everything! Even if it doesn't button down, you can have skin to skin under the nightie if that makes sense. Button down is handy if breast feeding. I had a dressing gown but didn't leave the room so didn't need it except for covering up a bit when visitors arrived. I never wear nighties but much preferred them in the hospital and afterwards as they were cooler, they didn't put any pressure on my C-section scar like PJs would have and preferred them when changing pads as I didn't have to wrestle them down like PJs, again a lot of this might be C-section related though. I've got 1 old nighty, 1 button down nighty and 1 normal nighty for this stint! Plus slippers, flip flops and my dressing gown, only because I've got a light weight one anyway.

dollydaydream84 · 02/05/2016 20:08

Oh just to add, M&S had button down nighties, again not as cheap as Primark but handy.

nehagarg · 02/05/2016 20:45

Oh no biking. Hope your scan is reassuring. I have definitely heard a lot of stories about how scan measurements are notoriously off. Fingers crossed all goes well.

Good luck AmI. How far along are you now? I wasnt expecting to be given a date at all (DH wanted to come and I told him there was no need) but doc took a rise from 10 to 13 very seriously and gave me a date right off the bat.

OP posts:
MollieRos · 02/05/2016 20:48

cautious I got a blue and white spotty nightie with buttons down the front and a couple of pairs of dark pj bottoms from primark- I figured I could just wear vest tops/t-shirts that I already have with the bottoms. They're just normal ones in my usual size- the waistband is stretchy enough to fit me now at 36 weeks so I reckon they'll be fine! I was considering getting another one of the nighties so that if one gets grotty if I wear it during labour I'll have another one I can breastfeed in. I think they were £6 so pretty cheap! Everything says just to take old t-shirts and nighties but I don't have any old oversized t-shirts hanging around and I've never worn a nightie in my life before!

I was wondering about a lightweight dressing gown too, do people think it's worth getting one? I don't have one already so I'd have to find a cheap one somewhere.
