tokentotty · 07/03/2007 15:59

But don't shout at yourself - YOU have done nothing wrong ok ? It's their misdirection and lack of help that has caused this.

kiteflying · 07/03/2007 16:05

I am so enthused by your comments about hypnobirthing TT, - hey maybe I don't NEED all this grief about hospitals

peanuthead · 07/03/2007 16:05

kiteflying - your gp sounds like a numskull. they have to get you in somewhere - maybe their cockup will add extra weight to you getting into st thomas's if that's still your first choice. they certainly owe you something...

re hypnobirthing - i'm intending going for that too - have heard really good things about it and i had hypnotherapy in my run up to fertility treatment and it seemed to help. do you know anywhere that does it in london tt, or when you start? I'd happily spend £189 plus on that. it's the lack of friends here that worries me...

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 16:10

Actually Peanuthead and Kite, the friend who did it lives in Muswell Hill so there's deffo somewhere near you. Perhaps you could go together. In fact, I only live a little way round the A406 so possibly we could all go. If not, you might make friends at the class, although I think they're pretty small. I'm going to use the antenatal yoga as my base for meeting very local mums I think.
totally agree with using the ineptitude of your GP as grounds for the hospital reconsidering your application.

peanuthead · 07/03/2007 16:19

just to warn you tt that I went to a local antenatal yoga class and noone spoke to each other AT ALL. It was really weird and awkward. we all got the lift down together and there's always a really long wait (it's at St thomas's) and no-one even looked at each other. maybe it's just a difficult group but I wouldn't count on meeting people at yoga.

muswell hill is a bit of a trek for me but if it's good and a reasonable no of sessions ie not millions i'd consider it.

stretchmarks · 07/03/2007 16:21

peanuthead I did the NCT classes with DS1 only £80 up north !!! They were good and made friends there still get together with the group every now and then.

Kite - I would definately go and kick up a fuss with another doctor to get this sorted it's ridiculous.

Hypno Birthing sounds interesting easter eggs sounds more interesting mmmmmmmmmmmm

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 16:23

Trust me, the easter egg was absolutely fascinating.....

Ah, so where (obviously only roughly) are you then Peanut ?

peanuthead · 07/03/2007 16:47

£80 is fine - but 180 - taking the piss. I've just realised i can go to coffee mornings (good grief) and stuff without having to go the classes. i'll try and persuade dh again that it's worth it but i'm not convinced enough myself to convince him..

I'm in loverly south east london - although we are moving but it'll still be somewhere round here as it's cheap (for London anyway).

I've realised though how little I socialise locally (well not at all) and how boring it is being stuck at home as I took time off for ms now feel ok but got no work booked for another 3 weeks and I'm bored. And will be with a baby..

I hope kiteflying has gone quiet because she's on the phone giving someone an ear bashing...

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 16:49

Ah of course, I remember you mentioning South-East London now previously. Think there's someone else in North London that I must have got confused with (not difficult at the moment that's for sure). My Hypno birthing friend coudn't get on to an NCT antenatal course but has also signed up to them for all the postnatal stuff.

kiteflying · 07/03/2007 16:50

Peanut, maybe they will warm up after a few classes - here's hoping for you. I think TT that peanuthead is in Sth London, and it is only me on this board that is north of the river, but muswell hill sounds quite good to me.

Queen Charlotte's have said they will accept a referral from my in house doctor at work for now until I change NHS GP's so hopefully I can be scathing in that letter. And hopefully the doctor will send it for me. I have written a less critical version in case I need to get current useless GP to send it, but when I suggested I write the letter of appeal (back at the start of Feb) they were quite dismissive so who knows.

stretchmarks · 07/03/2007 17:06

Peanuthead - do make use of the NCT activities they are a good way to meet people but like any group they can all seem a bit cliquee when you first go along.

We've moved since I had DS1 so I'm just planning on joining coffee morning and baby groups etc after this one so that I can meet some other mums in the area. Although when I picked DS up from nursery last week one of the teachers asked if I was pregnanct as they had been reading a book about where babies had come from and he'd said mummy has one in her tummy but she said lots of kids can say that but it turns out there are 3 of us expecting - trying to work out who the others are now !!!!! Slight worry that DS said Baby was coming at Christmas I think they were slightly concerned I was having the longest pregnancy in history.

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 17:11

Awwww Stretchmarks, am laughing at your DS !!

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 17:16

Hehehehehheeh nice one on that other thread Peanuthead

peanuthead · 07/03/2007 17:20

hehe
i'm laughing about you having the baby jesus!

tt - was so annoyed - sanctimonious cow. (goes off to eat more JUNK FOOD)

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 17:25

I know !!!! Really irked me too. Pity her kids - bet they can't wait for some fun birthday dinners. And preaching at a group of pregnant women ?? I banned DH from reading a Zita West book as the first page he turned to said 'now's the time to give up sugar, stop eating cakes, biscuits, sweets etc'

"PUT THAT FECKING BOOK DOWN NOW AND NEVER PICK IT UP AGAIN"

Dh tells everyone how he's not allowed to read anything about this pregnancy any more.

kiteflying · 07/03/2007 17:28

I love your story stretchmarks!

I am booking in with the Active Birth Centre (in Archway) for classes - we were hoping we could dispence with NCT once we have done that but that was when we were thinking all our/my breastfeeding and other feeding training could come from an independent midwife or from the hospital. Actually I have found a couple of La Leche meetings are held in Stokey, so maybe this will cover that aspect of things?

Hmmm...I may just wait to get a hospital sorted out before I tackle all of this. I have just written a letter that reads like an insurance claim affidavit only angrier and more heartbroken.

peanuthead · 07/03/2007 17:34

oh zita west! don't start me! I sat and laughed with my sis over her boook as she wrote how someone who drank 25 cups of tea a day and lived on cheese sandwiches got pg when she gave it up and ate healthily....well duh! loads of nonsense in the same vein - useless for anyone with a normal fairly healthy diet. I really hate food fascism.

although actually I suspect I'm feeling guilty and so easily riled as I do need to stop eating so much "rubbish" now ms is on the way out..

and being pregnant is a bit of an excuse for having stuff like cake that I don't normally have. hope she doesn't read this thread..

kiteflying · 07/03/2007 17:43

I was very led by Zita over last year's seemingly endless TTC and failed IVF so I am afraid I am a big fan of tailoring your diet and lifestyle to creating a healthy body wanting only a baby to make perfect.

But I was hopelessly smitten by McDonalds' fries during the darkest days of ms! And still struggling to keep away from sweets even though thankfully my fruit cravings have returned.

peanuthead · 07/03/2007 18:03

oh sorry kiteflying - i too had problems ttc which is why i read zita west. she just is too extreme for me - i do think a healthy diet is essential if you're having problems but she was a bit too much for me.

although I was really really annoyed as I heard her on woman's hour recently and she sounded really reasonable and really down to earth. i hate having my unresonable prejudices undermined!

conkertree · 08/03/2007 10:13

i am kind of the same peanuthead - i dont like food facism but at the same time, i think i probably am eating slightly too many sweet things which i wouldnt have done before the pg. i think i still eat pretty healthily though and have upped my fruit and veg intake since being pg, so i think as long as i dont go crazy with cakes and chocolate, they wont do too much harm.

I am nervous about putting too much weight on during this pg, but then at the same time, i know that i will get back into running afterwards cause we are going to do a big family run at one of the big events within the year and so dont want to miss out on that.

tokentotty · 08/03/2007 10:30

Funnily enough - snap with the ttc. Went to the ZW clinic a couple of times when we weren't sure what no earth was going on for us and I learnt so much it was fab. I do not however, agree with banning all intake of sugar at any point in anyone's life, especially when pg !! I agree with the tenets of her advice that you need a healthy body to conceive but by the same token I think you need a healthy mind too. I have a friend who's losing the plot over ttc after two missed miscarriages and when she wasn't drinking or eating anything she wanted to she was so miserable that I think it just made everything worse for her!

Anyway. Is a beautiful sunny day in old London Town today. I've been to the dentist who told me my gums are healthy and all is fine and now I've got a meeting with HR about maternity 'stuff'...

katybird · 08/03/2007 10:40

Hi everyone, what a beautiful day in north London too!

Kiteflying - what's the Active Birth Centre at Archway like? I'm in Muswell Hill and struggling to get on NCT antenatal classes. We're just over the border in Barnet but I don't want to trek all the way up there for classes, Archway is much nearer.

You're all making me jealous talking about easter eggs - I'm still in the grips of ms and can't touch cocolate, grr... DP is making me pancakes at the mo though so I can't really complain! He's off to New Zealand for a week with work so I think he's feeling guilty.

tokentotty · 08/03/2007 10:53

ahhh Katybird - thank you !! I knew there was someone else who lived Muswell Hill way but couldn't remember for the life of me who it was.

katybird · 08/03/2007 11:02

How was the HR meeting? I've not told them yet, my boss knows though.

kiteflying · 08/03/2007 11:06

Feeling very virtuous as I had just cut up an apple as I logged on...

Peanuthead - I totally did not take offence, by the way. Zita's book was one of the reasons we changed things in our diet but it was also word of mouth things such as both my sister and a cousin saying the last time she fell pregnant was straight off the liver cleansing diet, so the pieces just added together for me. And like most people, once told that I "couldn't", I was determined that I could and used everything, every bit of advice out there.

I have been a bit more relaxed about food since pregnant but still trying to stay away from "empty calories" apart from when the ms was bad and then it was just whatever I could eat I would. I agree with tokentotty that you have to stay healthy of mind as well but I guess I was lucky that I had been on an even stricter diet a couple of years before (the old "no carbs after five, no bread, no dairy, salad all day") so I was not miserable with cravings.

Katybird, I have not actually been to the Active Birth Centre but only spoken to them on the phone about the best time to start classes. It is probably closer to you than to me where you live.

I am trying to keep an open mind about childbirth itself and just going to use some of the ABC's yoga methods for building up strength in the meantime. I have done less exercise since pregnant than ever in the past ten years!
