I have to confess to having wimped out of the call yesterday. In my defence I have a new deal starting at work and partners coming in and out of my office all the time so I did not want to be half way into a tirade over antenatal care when one walked in!

I got on here at the start of lunch(ish) to steel myself for that call today actually.

By the way TT, I am in my OLD size 12 suits -I was a size 10 until this "bump that looks more like fat" stage. Actually I don't know whether that makes it better or worse LOL? I actually really do want to get into my maternity clothes soon as some of them are a bit warm for spring!

I have just checked our roll call and Hersetta, loler and I are all due within a day of each other which might explain the same bump stage! I have what Hersetta describes to the letter.
TT, you have ten days on us so maybe we will all have a bump pop out next week! My goodness, I cannot believe someone gave up their seat for you without asking. I have been asking for a seat since my ms kicked off. Sometimes I really can't be bothered and am relieved when someone gets off in time for me to sit down at least some of the way.

Loler, my boyfriend cheerfully announced that he was 9 pounds at birth when I was eight weeks pregnant and wondered why I went white with shock. Poor you - I hope you win your case with the consultants.

Hersetta, very envious of your Maldives trip. I am thinking of heading there for our un-honeymoon pre-baby holiday in April. Any suggestions would be welcome!

Quite worried that lovelybird is feeling wiped out at seventeen weeks (big sympathy going out to you lovelybird!) as that is when I had planned our "biggish" holiday to the Maldives or Morocco.

conkertree · 07/03/2007 13:52

ooh all these holidays sound fantastic. we are trying to get soemthing in france booked for may so we have something to look forward to, but not quite as glamorous as those locations.

my tummy looks bump shaped, but if you didnt know i was pg, i'm not sure you wouldnt just think i was a bit overweight. also looks a bit different on different days and with different clothes. 19 weeks today so am looking forward to my 20 week scan, although its not until nearly 21 weeks.

am constantly hungry but getting slightly worried about putting on too much weight cause i'm not getting a great deal of exercise. hopefully will go for walks more in the evenings when its lighter at nights.

conkertree · 07/03/2007 13:59

sorry crossed with kiteflying - very true about the dates and sizes of bump - i definately noticed a difference early last week, when the bump seemed to rise up a bit and become more bump shaped cause there is a bit underneath it now so not quite so much like just looking fat.

the energy thing may be different for us kiteflying as we have no other los to look after yet - i feel quite energetic at 19 weeks excpet for if i have been out at things a few nights in a row.

GillL · 07/03/2007 14:05

Don't worry TT, I'm definitely showing. No one could mistake my bump for anything other than pregnancy. At first it made me quite self-conscious but now I'm quite pleased with it.

I'm still waiting for the bloom too. It's such a struggle to do anything when I feel so knackered all the time. Dd wears me out in the evening and by the time I've finished doing everything it's almost time to go to bed.

Hersetta · 07/03/2007 14:11

Kiteflying,

Sounds good - April is a great month to go. Only problem is, as it's not too far away now your choices may be fairly limited as resorts tend to get booked up a long way in advance (especially as some of them are very small), so i could reccommend a few but there is no saying there will be availability.

Personally our favourite is a very small island (500m long by 100m wide) with just 80 rooms called Lily Beach. It's very casual and relaxed. The reef and sealife exceptional and the staff are fantastic. They treat us like long lost friends whenever we go back. Lily beach is also all inclusive only so no worries about large bar bills at the end of your stay (which as everything is imported can rack up fairly quickly). Best prices for Lily beach are with hayes and Jarvis I have found.

If there is no availability, let me know what choices you have and I'll tell you what I think.

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 14:12

Hmmmmmmmmm.....think I should probably not have sent out one of the guys on my desk to buy me and easter egg. Couldn't get the thought of them out of my head. He brought me back a flake one and have now eaten a flake choc bar AND almost half the egg. Whoops ?

Loulee · 07/03/2007 14:17

GillL - really sympathise with the tiredness. I feel exhausted too - and know what you mean that when you finally sit down, it's time to go to bed! Bumped into a friend who has just had her 3rd and she said the funny thing is that as soon as it's all over, you sit there and say - that wasn't so bad - lets do it again! We'll see....

Hersetta · 07/03/2007 14:19

Tsk, tsk TT - you bad girl !!!

Funnily enough (and amazing for me) is that I'm not craving chocolate like I used to - i've not had much at all since I've been pregnant. Did have half a toffee crisp yesterday, but that was because i was hungry and it was the only thing in my desk drawer - the other half is still lurking in there though.

Going to the theatre tonight with a friend so looking forward to that. only problem is we're seeing a comedy and my bump (or lack of bump) hurts when I laugh too much!

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 14:28

Well - Betty the midwife (MBE) instructs ALL her ladies to take Floradix daily. Have also heard this from lots of others too so perhaps give it a go ? Might take a few days/week to kick in but I think it helps.

Obviously not as much as a chocolate easter egg but.... Actually. I don't really eat chocolate much at all when not pg. In fact, now I think about it, I rarely eat sweet things and at the moment I can't stop.

GillL · 07/03/2007 14:47

I've been off sweet things since becoming pg. I've hardly had any bicuits, sweets, cakes etc in months and I love puddings but really can't be bothered with them now. I never eat chocolate now as I came to the conclusion that it gave me really bad stomach ache. It took me a long time to come to terms with that as I absolutely love the stuff but having slipped a few times and suffering, I knew it was the right thing to do to give it up. I put on quite a lot of weight with dd so I'm hoping the lack of sweet foods is going to help stop that this time round.

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 14:49

Tch...I'm gonna really lumpy if I carry on like this !!
What are you seeing at the theatre tonight H?
Ok Kite, how's the calling going - need us to gee you up for it ?

Hersetta · 07/03/2007 15:06

Seeing the Comedy version of the 39 Steps at the Criterion.

Supposed to be quite good from the reviews.

kiteflying · 07/03/2007 15:25

I just called St Thommies and was told to come in and write a self-referral form. I could have done this over a month ago! However, no guarantees that I will get in at all as I am (a) out of the area and (b) already fifteen weeks. Sheesh. I am also trying Queen Charlotte's, as I really need this resolved before we go away.

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 15:27

And I take it you're going to do this self-referral TODAY !! So frustrating to now find out this could have been sorted out a bl**dy month ago. You ok ?

peanuthead · 07/03/2007 15:35

oh there's no way I can keep up with all this!!

Hersetta - my dad raved about the 39 steps but as it's a while since i've seen the film i think i'd struggle with it as it is supposed to be funny. I'd love to get out to the theatre - I suppose I 'm just getting to the point where I could sit through an entire play without having to go out and retch - 7 in the eve is my worst time for sickness...

tt - i'm huge too - in a fat way not a bump way. we went to view a flat last night (loler, i'm in the same boat as you - have 4 months to move or we're in a small one bed flat - eek - our purchase fell through 2 days before exchange) anyway the girl thre had 5 weeks to go and she was tiny.

I seem to have piled on weight around my waist (which was always narrow) and can grab a handful over my stomach. Feel really fat. I wouldn't normally put weight on there would be my hips and thighs so I presume it's pregnancy fat. Have stopped eating sweets and so much rubbish now ms is just nausea and retching and started walking so hopefully won't put as much on now.

But just found out my local swimming pool is shut! grrrr.

nice we're all thinking of holidays - feels like winter is on the way out and so is morning sickness!

has anyone any thoughts on antenatal classes? i started a long thread about it as i don't know whether to go or not - it's £189 which seems extortionate but I don't know anyone in this bit of london or anyone with kids either...

peanuthead · 07/03/2007 15:37

crossed with you kiteflying - what a nightmare for you. i suppose at least you're getting somewhere - finally. I wonder where you could complain to - if you can be bothered - i always intend to and run out of steam..

if you get in we might bump into each other there mid-contraction..

GillL · 07/03/2007 15:40

I definitely found the NCT classes worthwhile peanuthead but I don't think I would have paid that much. I think I paid about £100.

Anyone else gone up 2 cup sizes already? I went from a D to a DD and now that's feeling tight. If I've gone up 2 sizes by 16 weeks I'm worried I'm gonna be huge by the end!

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 15:41

Hey Peanuthead !!!

Sorry to hear about your homebuying stuff, fingers crossed for you as well that finding somewhere happens soon and it's a very smooth, quick process.

I'm not planning on going to antenatal classes to be honest. Going to do a hypno-birthing course (or 'hippo burping' as my friend calls it), ante natal yoga, and then the rest with my midwife. She said that it's not really necessary if I do the other stuff

pinkranger · 07/03/2007 15:42

tt - whats a Hypno birthing course ??
i also want to do ante natal yoga, thick anything else is pretty much you learn it as you go , didnt do anything with my first

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 15:46

Give me a minute Pink and I'll try and copy my friend's mail about it...
Any further thoughts on commemorating Sunday?

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 15:49

Ok, these are her comments:

Hey, my Hypnobirthing class was great. There was a recently trained teacher sitting in. She's Australian and said it's recently started to take off there. www.hypnobirthing.com/australia.htm. They are utterly convinced that you can avoid things like being induced because you're in such control of your body. They even reckon that quite a few women are able to "tell" their babies when to come. Plus they have LOADS of case histories of people who are really uptight and wanting to be in hospital from the word go. She said one French lady (you know how medicalised French births are), first time mother, recently was really, really uptight and even panicking about getting to the hospital, which was only 5 mins away. After doing the classes, by three weeks before her date, she was thinking about a home birth and then asked the practitioner if she'd come and assist at a home birth with the relaxation. She got agreed and then got a phone call one morning to say, "I'm really sorry. I had the baby last night. We didn't have time to call you. Actually, the paramedics didn't even make it. I delivered the baby in the bathroom - my husband caught him. I was getting mild cramps and was doing my relaxation and didn't realise I was in labour."
You'd want to see the birth videos she showed us. Almost all the women looked like they were asleep through the whole thing. No noise from them except one who made some noise whilst actually pushing. They were just right inside themselves doing the special breathing and would have a 10lb baby out in a couple of pushes with no fuss or anything. You can train yourself to feel only "sensation" in labour or even some women train themselves to feel completely numb. It's bonkers, but if it works... I can be the guinea pig and let you know.

pinkranger · 07/03/2007 15:49

no, not yet , i tihnk DH has forgot, he may rember sunday when he works out the date. Think that i will spend some time in the garden (if not raining) and then take my ds out for the afternoon x

pinkranger · 07/03/2007 15:54

tt- you can def try this one first

kiteflying · 07/03/2007 15:54

OH MY GOD!!! I am so sorry to shout but I am JUST so annoyed. I was told about self-referral at St T's. Ergo, I thought, I should be able to self-refer to Queen Charlotte's. I googled to check for a telephone number and find that this whole time I could have been referred there by my GP because I did my IVF there. Immediately call them only to be told they are now booked up until October and what a shame I was not referred earlier.
The office suggested I get another GP to write a referral letter telling the sorry history of my lack of support from current GP and hope this might have some weight with the head sister.
I am furious with myself for not thinking of this earlier but the doctor that "discharged" us from the IVF clinic told us that we would not be having ante-natal care there but at a local hospital (obviously a miscommunication and she meant the IVF clinic where we meant could we be admitted to maternity services) so I then took my lead from my GP. I could kick myself down the stairs.

pinkranger · 07/03/2007 15:55

kiteflying - you have very right to shout- Un bloody believable
