nehagarg eek that you have an induction date... that must make it a lot more real!

mrsmugoo yippee that the baby's head down- now they just need to stay there!

Welcome to the newbies and sorry to everyone that's having to be monitored/having appointments/in hospital.

I've got 4 days left at work, I can't wait! I've seriously lost motivation these last couple of weeks, I'm pretty much just going through the motions every day waiting till I can go home and nap Grin

emma that's what my chart looked like, then the most recent measurement dropped below the 50th centile so I was sent for a growth scan with the consultant. I was really worried but my scan showed that he's growing fine, measurements were a tiny bit small but nothing to worry about. Those measurements are just to monitor that things are growing but seems you can't really read too much into them. Bump measurements can be big just because there's lots of fluid in there, it doesn't necessarily mean the baby's huge. Just telling you this to say "don't worry"! I've got another scan next week but I'm expecting it'll show no problems. So fingers crossed your scan shows normal growth.

dollydaydream84 · 29/04/2016 18:25

emma I dont know for sure but I'm pretty certain they won't induce before 37 weeks.

Anyone with a child already know if we need to buy new mattresses for moses basket and cot for a second child? DH is adamant the one we have is fine but the NHS website suggests new mattresses for each child. Having read up, it is to do with bacteria and potential mould spores potentially linked to SIDS. Anyone got any advice about this?

Mollie Yay for 4 days left in work! Not long for me either, can't believe I am at this stage. Hows the building going? Our builder still fobbing us off for a start date (never mind an end date!). I'm giving him a nice bank holiday and decided I am coming down on him like a ton of bricks (bom tish!) on Tuesday, pulling out the "late stage of pregnancy" card and turning on the hormonal waterworks if necessary! Stressful!

MollieRos · 29/04/2016 18:53

dolly how frustrating with the builder. We're coming towards the end of our work (finally)- we should be totally finished in a couple of weeks, yippee! I pulled the pregnant card several times- one of our builders let us down completely but we managed to find another one who was really kind, rallied round all of his tradesman friends and they've all fit us in last minute in between their other jobs. Possibly helped by me wearing clothes to show off my bump, and emphasising my waddle Grin I'm sure yours will get done, it's just so stressful when you're waiting!

No idea on the mattress... my DH's parents offered us their cot that's been kept since my DH was a baby- "it's even got the 36 year old, slept on by 6 different cousins mattress with it so you won't have to buy a new one!". It wouldn't fit in the room anyway, but we'd've had to find a way to politely say we needed a new mattress after all!

strawberrypenguin · 29/04/2016 19:15

I would buy a new mattress. We chucked out last cot mattress anyway rather than trying to store it so we don't have much choice!

iamdivergent · 29/04/2016 19:19

dolly I'd get a new mattress personally. We kept ours last time and when we got it down from the attic there was mould inside the actual mattress - yuck!

mollie our cot is an heirloom - it's slept at least 7 previous babies - I love that it has history. It may not be the nicest looking cot but it does the job especially with a new mattress. I'm excited for baby's teeth marks to join the rest 😂

GrubbyWindows · 29/04/2016 19:20

emma just to second the reassurance re fundal height, it's a really inexact measurement- they mostly use it to decide to send you for a growth scan rather than just scanning absolutely everyone loads of times. The odds massively in favour of it being nothing at all!

I'd buy a new mattress too (and in fact have done just that), but I do feel as if I'm being superstitious, it seems a bit mad!

dollydaydream84 · 29/04/2016 19:35

Thanks for the advice re: mattress. Ours hasn't actually been in the loft as DD1 has been using in her cot bed up until 2 weeks ago so looks perfect which is why DH is having a hard time parting with £50 when "this one is perfectly fine". He is looking at me as though I've lost the plot!

Was planning on buying a new moses basket one as that has been in the loft!

Mollie - thanks for the sympathy! Glad yours is coming along nicely! Had to pull the pregnancy card with DD1 as we stupidly had building work done then too. Hoping the weather picks up and we can just get it started!

mrsmugoo · 29/04/2016 20:06

I won't be buying a new cot mattress, it was an expensive sprung one and she won't be going in it for months anyway.
I would maybe have bought a new Moses basket mattress as that's in storage but I'm not bothering with it anyway I'm just going straight into co-sleeping to start with.

ILovePies · 29/04/2016 20:21

Yay for induction dates and head down babies!! Nehagarg & Mrs!
I hope all that are in hospital are ok and are out soon Flowers
Dolly agree, buy a new one. I read that reusing a mattress has links to SIDS and that was enough to make me buy another!

Had LFT yesterday as I've had really bad itching on hands & feet, haven't heard anything so no news is good news! Was worried if I had OC they'd just force me into an ELCS which I really don't want.
Midwife really frustrated me! Tried to refuse to test my wee because it wasn't the first wee of the day! I insisted she did it, but she kept repeating that it would be accurate! 3rd baby and have never had a midwife try and refuse to test because it wasn't first wee! Had a trace of protein which it had last time it was tested so I am glad I insisted!

mrsmugoo · 29/04/2016 20:53

That's ridiculous! What if your appointment is at 4 in the afternoon?

I did my sample in the loo in the clinic today because I couldn't find a pot at home. Mw said it was absolutely fine!

dollydaydream84 · 29/04/2016 21:07

Thanks mrsmugoo

Thanks Ilovepies I read that about SIDS and it frightened me too! I have heard that about the first wee, she didn't refuse me but she made a big fuss about it when I had DD1. This time I forgot, did a middle of the day sample and she didn't say anything about accuracy.

laughingGnomette · 29/04/2016 21:10

Ilovepies - whaaaaat?! Crazy midwife! I always do mine at the clinic. My first wee of the day is normally at around 5am, there is no way I'd be fumbling at home with a pot to get that!

MollieRos · 29/04/2016 21:13

Iam I quite liked the idea of using the same cot that DH had slept in as a baby, but unfortunately it was huge, no way it would fit in our teeny room!

I haven't had to use first morning urine once... in fact once they'd run out of pots in the clinic so she just gave me the test strip to wee on in the toilet then bring back to her!

dollydaydream84 · 29/04/2016 21:15

laughingGnomette after my scolding with last baby, fumbling around with a tiny pot at 5am is exactly what I've been doing! Grin

GrubbyWindows · 29/04/2016 21:23

Eh? My MWs just give you the stick to pee on at the appointment, and it was the same with DS! At the hospital they give you a pot when you sign in. Nobody has ever mentioned first morning urine since the good old days of ttc!

Torfhinn · 29/04/2016 22:26

Yay for the head down mrsmugoo!

I've got a new moses basket mattress and will buy a new cot mattress when this baby moves into it. .. but that's because both sides have been puked on and it feels a bit mean to new baby to sleep on a vommy mattress Grin

My midwife just gives me a stick to pee on as well... don't understand how first morning wee will affect protein levels Hmm

MindfulBear · 30/04/2016 00:41

Hi dolly
dsil lost 2 kids 2-3 years ago so is close to the lullaby trust. She reused her cot mattress recently. We consulted her on what to do with our cot mattress. Basically need to consider risk of there being mould in it. We used a waterproof mattress cover and stored it in a cupboard so we are going to reuse.
Planning on breastfeeding as well as using a cocoonababy for the first few months anyway and might co- sleep m, so hoping SIDS risk is minimal.

cheshirem2b · 30/04/2016 12:11

dolly I've got a new mattress for the cotbed as I moved the current one dd has to her toddler bed. I've got a new mattress for the snuzpod too as the old one has been in the loft for 12m.

Exciting times now with induction dates... I get my date on 9th may! Eek!

insideout · 30/04/2016 13:41

ilovepies I have an inexperienced midwife, who is like this, she got all huffy because I needed bloods taken that were not routine as she was running 45 minutes late. She then kicked off because she hadnt seen me at my last 3 midwife appointments ( she was on a course, off sick and on holiday respectively) then she wanted me to repeat the gtt as I had a trace of glucose, I only had the test last week and it was fine so I declined Grin and then she said my next appointment will have to be with someone else as she is on holiday for 3 weeks in may!

Also had a growth scan on Friday baby is on 50th centile still so all good, but he is frank breech with his bum right down in my pelvis am hoping I can get him moved as I'm only 32 weeks

any tips on getting baby to turn would be good, both my others were head down by this stage!

dollydaydream84 · 30/04/2016 17:59

So sorry for your DSIL mindfulbear how awful! Thanks all, definitely buying a new mattress for moses basket and cot now!! Glad I asked. This then leads me on to the next question...do we need a new car seat? I know mattresses and car seats are 2 things to buy second hand. I'm sure car seats are like that because of the potential that they have been in an accident, is that right? Our Maxi Cosi Cabrio-Fix hasn't been in an accident so I'm assuming it is OK to re-use?

insideout I've seen someone different each time due to long term illness of the midwife who is supposed to do our surgery. Same thing happened last time too!

iamdivergent · 30/04/2016 18:31

If it's your car seat and you know it's not been in an accident then it's fine to reuse.

dollydaydream84 · 30/04/2016 19:03

Brill thanks iamdivergent :)

iamdivergent · 30/04/2016 19:39

We would have been reusing ours but I lent it to a friend who then sold it after she was finished with it Hmm we got one free with our travel system though so not too bad.

cheshirem2b · 30/04/2016 21:11

We are reusing the car seat. No problem if you've not been in an accident.

JellyBaby26 · 01/05/2016 04:08

Reusing car seat here, just need to wash it as it's covered in dd vomit and saliva. This makes me sound dirty but she has literally just moved out of her cabriofix !

Won't be buying new next to me mattress as it's waterproof and won't be mouldy.

I'm wondering if there is mould spores in adult mattresses? There must be must there? Just thinking of cosleeping Confused
