Hi new year, new thread!

Peachy if you are still feeling a bit "fuzzy" tomorrow might be worth giving your m/w a ring and getting your BP checked.

Qsack website is www.snugglebumnappies.co.uk would post a link but no matter how often I try I can never get them right on here.

Moosma, I take my hat off to anyone who can even dabble in web design, it's all totally over my head, my DH did my site (he is a network manager so no real web design experience and he found it hard going. I find it hard going to get him to update it as I am "the wife" not a customer so am at the bottom of the pile!! The main reason why I am looking for someone to re design it mid next year. The furniture looks gorgeous, it's always so difficult getting things up and running and making a name for yourself, have you tried putting some bits on eBay, I found a fab hand made wardrobe on there for DD when I was looking for one and nothing I found in the shops was just wahat I wanted, often people buy from my eBay shop even though I charge for p&p on there rather than my site, I think some of it is the protection the Ebay offers and other times it can be just much easier to search eBay for the things you need rather than trawl through google searches.

babydrivertoo · 09/01/2007 21:43

peachygirl, hope you're feeling better tomorrow, but definitely worth getting checked out if not.

Had my 36wk check today with mw and took DS along. All completely normal thankfully. DS fascinated by hearing bubba's heartbeat.

andyrobo, I don't know how you manage to cope with all the jabs. Guess it's just a case of needs must, but hats off to you anyway.

On the bra front, can def recommend the bravado ones. Not necessarily the most attractive but really really comfy. My ones from last time are looking a bit skanky now so will see how they go for a few weeks and then might be in touch with you snugglebum. Also occurred to me that a bravado wd be just the thing to wear on top when in birthing p9ol so have packed one.

MoosMa · 09/01/2007 22:34

Snugglebum, have just looked at your site and will def use you when I next have to buy pants, in fact I need some nippas...

peachygirl · 09/01/2007 22:38

I'm actually seeing the MW tomorrow. I spoke to her earlier this week due to an issue at school with a child in my class with a rash, she just happened to be in the office, so I will mention it to her.
My last blood tests showed I had a low white bloodcell count which the doctor said was nothing to worry about .. but if I remember my school biology correctly don't they help in fighting off germs / immunity etc? which may be why I have picked up a couple of things in the last few weeks.

snugglebums website
There you go snugglebum

wow, all this talk about growth scans. i'm 36 weeks and haven't been measured once! i was only thinking the other day that no-one had done that. oh well, bit late now I guess!

suis · 10/01/2007 04:06

Thank you to everyone for your supportive comments re being a weepy basket case. It does make me feel very much better to know that I am not alone in this. I'm still very teary, but doing what I can to get myself together and your support has helped a lot. Thank you everyone.

forgottenfreetime · 10/01/2007 07:07

Hi everyone, up early coz bubs is in a rotton position and giving me tummy ache. Thought I'd try to catch up before work.
Suis - I can completely sympathise, over Xmas and New Year we all came down with one thing and another and DH is v stressed re work at the moment and I was feeling so low too. Couldn't believe I would manage to go back to work given how exhausted I've been at home and totally p...ssed off with what I've felt to be a lack of support/empathy with aches and pains of pg and spd. However got to say this am excepted works been ok - obviously more hard work to be at home stimes! Can you organise a kind or treat or break that might give you a boost? Just meeting a friend for frothy decaff coffee and a laugh might help a bit. At the other end of luxury my dad gave me a spa day voucher for xmas and I'm going to try and use it before the birth in a couple of weeks time. He'd come round and copped a biiiiig moan just before xmas so perfect pressie really!
Suprised so many people are having growth scans, me included - just goes to show how common they are and thus prob nothing to worry about. They are ony monitoring this baby since ds was abit small for dates - this baby measures fine. Despite a scan at 34weeks with ds which said average he turned up at 5th centile 2 weeks later so also goes to show how inaccurate they can be! If scans show small / poor growth I think they look next at placental blood flow to check nutrition to baby, sounds like most of you are being scanned for 'bigness' though rather than this.
Good Luck for appt tomorrow julezboo keep us posted tho i guess if you're delivered you might have your hands full for a while.

suzi2 · 10/01/2007 09:29

I've heard that growth scans can be up to 1lb out on their weight claculations. Mind you, I measured 2-3cm small with DS an he was 7lb 15oz at 40wks so not small. Bet this time as I'm measuring big she'll be a teeny 6 lber!

I'm very emotional and teary too. But I think a lot of it is lack of sleep. I've never really had great sleep all my life (bad asthma) and since DS came along it's been a lot worse. But just as he's learned to sleep through most nights the last couple of months, I'm doing that pregnancy insomnia thing and waking every 90 mins too for a loo trip and gaviscon. The last few nights have been the worst. With the cold and asthma kicking off I've struggled to get to sleep for the awful wheezing and to stay asleep due to coughing. I've also felt I'm waking DH and DS so trying not to cough and spl;utter. Consequently I've had 4 hours the last 3 nights and nothing in the day. VERY glad I have my parents nearby so they've been helping with DS> This morning I have given in and sent DS to theirs without me and I'm going to see if I can get some more sleep in. Don't want to end up crying in the car at 3am again . I guess it's a good reminder of life with a newborn... I forgot how deranged lack of sleep makes you!

bubblebell1 · 10/01/2007 10:30

hi everyone,

glad you are all ok. i have a growth scan next week but in past experience they arent 100% accurate. the same with the fundal height measurement. both myself and my sister were told we measure small for dates.
my sisters lo was 10lb 1 and my ds was 9lb 4. this time my measurement is small but from the previous growth scan baby is measuring large.

i have an appointment tomorrow with another consultant re my caesarean. i had a 3rd degee tear last time that hasnt been repaired properly and when i saw the last consultant he said that there was no need to bother with a cs because if i already have problems down there then whats the worst that can happen?
lo is breech also so all should go to plan and i will get my elective cs. i am hoping that i will get a date tomorrow all this uncertainty adds to all other pregnancy woes.

xxx

suzi2 · 10/01/2007 10:58

eeek bubblebell - what's the worst that could happen??? What a thing to say! My friend had such bad tearing with her DD that even after 2 ops, she's still taking laxitives 2 years later. They've told her that when she gets pg again they will have to do a CS to prevent further damage. Sorry - total horror story but very rare... but I would query the consultants worst case scenario.

bubblebell1 · 10/01/2007 11:24

i was told by the surgeon that repaired it that i would need a cs too. however the registrar at the hosp i am booked in at said that as i already suffer a certain degree of incontinence and the repair wasnt successfull then y do i want 1??

that was 4 weeks ago and i have arranged to see his senior so hopefully they wont be as unsympathetic as him.

is it only me but i feel so nervous when i meet with the dr. like i have been naughty at school and i have been sent to the head masters office. which way do u think i should approach the situation when i talk to the consultant? just say i want a cs or explain my concerns first. im sorry to sound so stupid but i really am at a loss as to what to say. especially after the last experience with the horrible dr.

xxx

on a positive note i sent away for the gbs test and i got the results back today which were negative so not all is gloomy.

CurrantBun · 10/01/2007 11:44

Bubblebell, that sounds horrendous and I can't believe you were spoken to in that way. When you see the consultant just try to be calm and rational, and as assertive as you can.

Explain clearly your reasons for wanting a Caesarian and don't let yourself be talked down. I can imagine that what you went through last time was extremely distressing, especially as you are still suffering the after-effects all this time later. The worst that could happen is basically that you could be left even more damaged - is that what the hospital wants? If need be, mention the possibility of legal action if they refuse to give you a section and you end up with worse damage ...

Feeling rather weary today, but it's my own fault for staying up until 12:20am watching a film with DH. Knew I'd regret it when the alarm went off this morning, and I was right!

I've read so many posts on here about growth scans and how inaccurate they are that I wonder why hospitals bother doing them. There really doesn't seem to be any accurate way to determine the baby's likely birth weight. Fundal height measurement isn't particularly accurate either as it can be affected by the position of the baby and the amount of fluid, but an experienced midwife should be able to get a reasonable idea of the baby's size by feel. The last midwife I saw was useless - couldn't even tell me which way round the baby was lying and I'd have thought they should be able to tell this at 31 weeks. Have another appointment on Friday so hoping to see my usual midwife this time, who is lovely.

suzi2 · 10/01/2007 12:43

Oh you've just reminded me to order my gbs test bubblebell - thatnks I keep forgetting! I agree with currantbun. Take a stand and insist if that's what you want. Chances are if they 'make' you have a natural delivery that you are terrified of then your anxiety will likely lead to complications and quite possibly a cs anyway.

SmudgeMum · 10/01/2007 12:52

just testing. I've written a few messages over the last few days but they don't seem to be appearing. Maybe someone is subtly trying to tell me to stop writing such rubbish?

MoosMa · 10/01/2007 14:21

Right, I have some market research I'd like to do on you all if that's ok? DH makes furniture and we're thinking about starting to do baby stuff (cots, cotbeds, changing tables, highchairs etc) and wonder if people will be interested. Bearing in mind it'll be solid wood and hand made it wouldn't be cheap, so..... is this something you would buy or have bought and think is worth spending a decent amount on knowing that it will last for a few children/generations?

suzi2 · 10/01/2007 14:26

pmsl smudgemum. I can see that one anyway. I did have a problem posting once but the lovely mumsnet people sorted it - perhaps drop them an e-mail?

Alocin · 10/01/2007 14:53

Just back from MW. Am now 34 weeks but measuring 36 and a half - she's not bothered, and I wont get a growth scan unless I'm 3cm over. I put it down to expensive vitamins - too well nourished by half!

peachygirl · 10/01/2007 16:03

I'm back from MW too, my BP was high on the first attempt so she had a good feel of the baby and tried again and it was back to normal. Baby is good, she said it was a nice size and may not tip over to 7lb. It will be interesting to compare the eventual with all the growth scan weights. It was a different MW , which was good as the usual one is OK but nothing special.
Bubblebell, you need to go into the consultant saying to yourself... 'you are providing me with a service and I do not want to be messed around' you don't need to be stroppy just strong. I did this with the MW when the doctor said give her one more chance before changing.
These things are hard especially if you are not use to dealing with professionals and quite honestly most of them can be quite impersonal. Stick to your guns.
moos ma, re the furniature it would really depend on the price.

Moos Ma - I would love furniture like that and if I had the money to throw at it when I had my first baby (not that I have any money now!) I would have loved to get solid good quality furniture, handmade. Sadly, finances are always a problem, so we are using our £30 IKEA cot for the 3rd child as well as the first two.

sputnik · 10/01/2007 16:35

Hi everyone, just gatecrashing from the June thread to invite anyone who's interested to join the all-new, cross-thread ante-natal fitness club. Quick intro:

Some of us on the June thread wanted to get together and give each other some support and motivation for a bit of exercise in pregnancy, and, not wanting to disturb others on our thread who just wanted to chill out in peace, thanks, thought it'd be a good idea to set up a new thread for everyone on the ante-natal threads, all welcome.

We're not talking marathon training or anything here, but it would be great to have a place where we could share our experiences of exercise in all stages of pregnancy, swap tips and links, and gently motivate each other when we might be flagging a bit. I for one am in serious need of it, having spent xmas doing nothing more strenuous than chewing on quality streets.

So, who's up for it? Step right this way!

MoosMa · 10/01/2007 16:38

Peachygirl, it would prob be about £400 for a cotbed in oak.

julezboo · 10/01/2007 18:44

Im back from growth scan! My baby is huge! He already estimates around 7lbs!! Im only 34 weeks, we are looking at induction at 37 weeks though which is 3 weeks away. My fluid levels are still low, so back next wed for another ctg and scan to make sure hes still growing.

OMG 3 weeks away!!!!!

andyrobo237 · 10/01/2007 19:45

Well I am fed up today - bump is starting to feel heavy and I am suffering with backache - but I have been rushing around today! Can't wait for a hot bath when dd has gone to sleep. Heartburn is just bubbling below the surface so the Gaviscon is out and the baby is wriggling like mad - getting loads of odd pains down below - and a bit of pressure - probably all quite normal for nearly 34 weeks!

Seeing midwife tomorrow - everyone keeps saying how well I look - I think I need to get some grey make-up to make me look worn out and the consultant may book my c-section in nect week - all ready to go and have a good moan at him! I usually have no questions but now have a small list - depends upon what he says following growth scan on Monday!

Anyway - rant over!!

Hi ladies,

Currantbun - Thanks for acknowledging my moany post

Suzi2 - We could have written the same post! Going through exactly the same here and like you am fortunate today to have my mum and her partner here to help out. Just knowing that DS is being entertained and cared for helps me either relax and put my feet up or get on with the bits that badly need doing pre-newborn arrival. I have taken to the sofa btw, somehow seem more comfortable there and you are so right, just getting you ready for life with newborn again. Also asthmatic and had the same probs last week with the flu, we were all waking each other up - not nice - hope you feel better and sympathise [hug]

I am thinking of elective section now and not VBAC - see consultant in a fortnight. Any experiences of elective?
