Hi new year, new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
qsack · 26/01/2007 18:47

is it only me or has anyone else convinced themselves that this baby WILL be early! my first two were 12 days over but for some reason i'm sure this one will come early, i'm definitely in denial! i feel sooo huge, can't sit in any ladylike positions at all and if i move quicker than a snail i get tightenings and start groaning which always puts a slightly concerned look on ds1's (3 and a half) face....

hairycaterpillar · 26/01/2007 19:22

Plumpbump- Good to hear Jacob is doing well, hope you get him home soon.

I had a nightmare today at ANC, the MW couldnt find the FH. To make it worse I generally get none/v few movements during the day (lots at night though so I never really worry) so of course when she asked if baby had moved today the answer was a "no". She tried for ages...two dopplers later and the GP also trying, she (by now in a very anxious and flustered state) sent me up to the hospital to be checked. Even there they struggled to get it with the hand held dopplers...but eventually got it. I think deep down I knew everything was ok but it still really scared me. Apparently the baby is now OP (back-to-back) so they blamed that. He/she is now happily kicking and wriggling about oblivious to the anxiety caused!

bunny3 · 26/01/2007 19:29

Gawd Hc, that must have been awful. The mw took a few seconds to locate the hb on Monday and I was already clutching at her arm begging her for reassurance.
I am determined this one shall be early - both of mine were a week overdue but I cant dwell on that - too depressing. I am so so fed up with being pg with constant fanny-ache and heartburn. Only days to go till Feb

suzi2 · 26/01/2007 19:36

What a fright HC. I was just commenting to my mw that I struggled to find DSs at this stage and struggle to find this little one (have a doppler at home) and she agreed that it can be tricky around this stage.

I'm asking for predictions as my auntie and my mums best friend were 3 hours out with DS! Starting to get excited about when it'll all happen... everyone thinks she'll be early but sods law says to me that she'll be late! Much as I'm excited I'd like to hold out for a couple of weeks yet.

Peachy - discharge sounds like it could have been old blood from your show that the mw dislodged. Was she doing a sweep?

My rib pain is getting really bad. Struggling to find ways to relieve it. I can't work out whether I've strained the tummy muscles that join the ribs, or it's the rib itself. Had my anatomy books out and I'm none the wiser as the pain is almost under my huge boobs lol. Question is, if I went to my GP about it is there anything they could do? My dad has suggested I've done damage with my bad asthma and cough lately. But they couldn't xray could they? And even if I have, it would just be a case of ice and resting? I'm taking paracetamol to take the edge off. Sorry... really about it!

Tommy · 26/01/2007 19:40

thanks alocin - I've got those so one less thing to worry about!

Tommy · 26/01/2007 19:42

hope things are a bit more relaxing now HC - they do scare us these babies dont they?!

peachygirl · 26/01/2007 20:18

HC what a awful time it must have been. glad everything worked out.
Suzi it wasn't a sweep just lots of pressing on the abdomen to feel the position of the baby. Pressing the bottom in etc. I've not seen any more so I am not letting it other me.
Could one of those microwave heat bags or a warm hot water bottle give you some relief. I don't think the GP would do anything - sorry.

babydrivertoo · 26/01/2007 22:33

belated congrats to mummy2jake, and nice to hear from plumpbump.

someone - sorry can't remember who - was asking about sheets and things. With DS we used a cellular blanket and a single cotton sheet for the first few weeks and then he was quickly large enough for grobags which I cannot recommend highly enough. This time I've got one of those swaddle blanket things (we swaddled in sheets last time but they were never quite long enough) for the first few weeks.

Our Wilkinet sling arrived today (thanks MIL) so with that and the ring sling I had for DS, we're well fixed for carrying no2 around.

Thought - again - things were kicking off this morning. Had aches for a long time and felt a bit odd but everything back to normal now. I feel as though no2 will come next week but who knows... Luckily I'm not suffering from KNUF, heartburn, SPD etc but I can see I will still get fed up if things haven't happened by next weekend.

Good weekend to all.

Sallyallyally · 26/01/2007 23:55

Went out to Nandos tonight and tried the 'hot' option so if any truth in the spicy food theory I should find out!
Still up 'cos I'm feeling pretty uncomfortable..am going to have a sink into our sofa with a book and hopefully might drift off.

sorkycake · 27/01/2007 00:04

I'd like to add that I'm feeling much better now that I'm counting days rather than weeks, which only occurred to me today!
I felt I had to get to 10 days left before I could justifiably count days

sorkycake · 27/01/2007 05:51

sigh!
Awake at 5am again, hope this kid isn't practicing it's sleep pattern

peachygirl · 27/01/2007 06:28

It's 6:30 and I'm up now. In fact have been awake for at least an hour.

I have a lovely cup of tea and I'm off to do some searching about the moxa so will be around

OP posts:
Bienchen · 27/01/2007 06:43

Peachy - I'm here, too. Meant to bake a cake but realised I've only got two eggs left, so that'll have to wait!

Flowertot - welcome back - we are due at about the same time! Hope all goes well and you get enough rest before labour kicks in.

Suzi2 - have the same problem with rib pain and it is my main reason for waking up and not going back to sleep again. For a while I thought it might be my top digging in and I slept in a v loose nightie. Did wonders for sex life but no help on rib front....
I wonder whether it is some part of the baby that is sticking up and lying on ribs. I have a scan booked for Thursday (as I'm over 40 they like to check the placenta is still working ok) and will ask about position of baby is mw seems to think it is breech. They may be able to shed some light on the rib pain too. At least I have no other pains at all and the rib pain only appears when lying down.

peachygirl · 27/01/2007 06:51

morning
me and DH made a banana loaf yesterday. I'm thinkin of having a slice but it might be too early.

OP posts:
qsack · 27/01/2007 07:47

i'm so glad it's not only me who's been awake since the early hours, although i did stay in bed! 5am today totally annoying at both the boys actually slept till 6.30 and 7.15. i can agree with the rib pain thing doesn't help with the old sleep! all my mates who were due babies around my time have had them now so i'm getting pretty fed up with still being the only waddler left!

KatPoo · 27/01/2007 07:57

Hi all. I have been awake since 5am too! Strange eh. Finally finished work yesterday - 3 weeks til due date . Went out for some curry with friends last nite and then had lots of under-bump stitch type pain. . . . thought oh-no labour is starting & have had no time at home. But phew no!!!
All ok with baby, head down & size is ok so no need for c-section. . . due to previous 3rd degree tear etc. Scan last week said he was 6lb so guess he may be 6.5 now!
Looking forward to spending time with DS1 over next few weeks - can be a normal stay at home mum doing pre-school run & pottering round the house. Have a busy social calendar as well. Feel very happy!

MoosMa · 27/01/2007 10:11

Oh Sorky I just realised you have my due date wrong, it's the 17th not the 16th. So I have 3 weeks to go, and LO is facing towards my right side and feeling more comfy there, hopefully she'll keep going round and be anterior soon . I'm can start labour now, my TENS has arrived and I have a shower curtain under my sheet in case of nighttime water breakage . Also as I'm 37 weeks today I'm now allowed to have a homebirth

All I need now are some contractions..............

Sallyallyally · 27/01/2007 10:41

Didn't realise so many people would be on so early..we could start a breakfast club for those of us wandering the house before the sun officially comes up!
KNUF pains are getting beyond a joke now. Can hardly stand when they happen...just have to hold my breath looking agonised which does seem to unsettle others in the vicinity! I imagine I should be embracing the pain and celebrating the movement on my cervix, visualising the petals of a flower opening or some such thing!! Hmmmmm...can't quite see it myself

Tommy · 27/01/2007 10:47

another one sorky - sorry!

Officially my date is now 16th which means that I'm 37 weeks tomorrow [show] which of course doesn't mean anything to the baby but does mean that the homebirth can go ahead as planned if I go into labour from now on (except my MW is going on holiday tomorrow for a week so I need baby to hang on a little bit please )

(DS1 said yesterday - "the baby had better not been born while (MW) is on holiday - you nede her to get the baby out properly - otherwise it might come out of your head or something....."

Tommy · 27/01/2007 10:48

that should be of course - otherwise we're back to talking about things that we've found in the loo again...... and I haven't yet

SmudgeMum · 27/01/2007 11:02

Morning all. Very impressed with talk of baking cakes so early. Did you have a piece of banana cake peachygirl? - sounds lovely!
Well DH and I went out for a lovely meal last night for his Birthday (next week but didn't want to risk leaving it too close). We got all dressed up and I managed to fit into my stretchy dress which actually looked quite nice. Got round the shoe thing by wearing flipflops! We did get quite a few comments at the restaurant and I think the owner breathed a sigh of relief when we left with the baby still safely inside me!!!

Sympathy will all the KNUF sufferers. Like your positive thinking Sallyally but I can't help just thinking ow rather than wow!

Anyone got any exciting plans for today? I think we're going to go and look for some curtains for the baby's room. DH has been making the most of the lie in opportunity and only just got up so I reckon it will be this pm before we go anywhere.

I phoned my friend back where I used to live yesterday lunchtime just to say hi. She's due 9th Feb and said she was about to leave for hospital as 3 contractions every 10 mins. How jealous am I?

suzi2 · 27/01/2007 11:13

Aaaarrghghghg this bloody rib is getting worse! Can't lie down unless I have a pillow under my left side. Can't turn over. Sitting hurts. Walking hurts. But worst is if I sneeze or cough I could quite honestly cry! DH is wondering if I've been lifting DS too much again so we're going to try a couple of days of me not doing any lifting to see if it helps.

Was supposed to be finishing my nesting today with some carpet shampooing but think I'll have to give that a miss. So we're off to Costco for some nappies for DS instead. for future reference, Costco own brand nappies are AMAZING. Cheap and really good. We just can't contemplate buying tesco/huggies/pampers for him again even though it's a 20 mile trip for us to go to Costco. They only start in a size 3 though which is a shame.

Agree with whoever is was that mentioned grobags. They're great. You can often pick them up in the sale in TK MAX too. We have a swaddling cloth for the early weeks though - bought it when DS was about 4 weeks old as we were at our wits end. He was so unsettled and could get out of ANY standard swaddle. So we got a Miracle Blanket and it's fab. If it works for us this time I must buy a spare. If DS was sick on his we'd be in major panic tryng to get it washed and dried lol.

snugglebunny · 27/01/2007 11:29

Morning all (well nearly afternoon!) DH and I taking full advantage of still being able to have a lie in - only 3 weekends left SIGH - thats if LO decides to stay safely tucked away! Only just dragged myself into the shower.
Seriously starting to worry how we are gonna cope with the sleep deprivation - we're both not great without our compulsory 7 hours!

Anyone know where I can get some teeny tiny nail clippers? Someone suggested packing them into hospital bag so LO doesnt scratch himself to pieces, but can only find the regular size ones with a twisty handle type thing! (although packaging does say "baby" nail scissors)

suzi2 · 27/01/2007 11:41

I got DSs teeny ones in Boots snugglebunny. Or pack some scratch mits for the first couple of days. Mind you, not sure DS managed to keep his scratch mits on that long lol. Mind you, it really surprised me that DS was born with claws lol.
