Good luck mummy2jake, hope it's easy and painless! Hope all goes well and hear from you very soon!

titchy77 · 23/01/2007 15:42

Good luck mummy2jake.
Everything will be fine.xxx

suzi2 · 23/01/2007 15:48

best of luck mummy2jake. just think, you'll have a lovely ickly baby very very soon

suzi2 · 23/01/2007 15:54

so pleased to hear I'm not the only one going in for a bit of cervix rummaging . I have very short fingers and cervix would appear to be somewhere on the moon at the moment. I never felt the head when in early labour with DS but I could feel a big bulge of waters poking through. Though it confused me completely as to what it was at the time! Only when mw told me I realised. My DH has shown no interest in having a check for me - unless he getss something out of it IYKWIM!

Hope you're feeling better soon 12yeargap

I've had a real tough time with DS today. Loads of tantrums and strops about nothing. A friend came over with her 5 month old who is the most cuddly, placid, easygoing baby ever. Totally different to DS - he was never like that! So hoping for one of those this time lol. But what an eye opener. DS wasn't meaning it but he was quite wild with her DS. Poking eyes, offering banana, trying to stand on him, being really jealous and fighting for my attention if I held her DS. Quite a worry really... I hope it only takes him a few days to get used to the idea of a little sister. MUST get another stairgate so I can block off a room for her safety!

Cadbury · 23/01/2007 15:58

good luck mummy2jake - will be thinking of you this afternoon.

Marmite, I'm really sorry to hear your news. I hope the insurance company is extra specially nice to you. grrr about your rings especially.

On the pram front, we hadn't planned to get a new travel system for this one. We have a roapy old graco one that has lost a wheel several times, has had some welding where my dad broke part of the chasis and the basket is held together by duck tape. We also have a 6th hand Silver Cross push chair that is still ok but very basic and not terribly suitable for a new born unless I wanted to wash and scrub the carry cot. Anyway, we were just going to make do (my moto for most things) until my lovely friend popped round this morning - she has goot a Mama's and Papa's Pinko travel system for us from ebay - as a gift!!! I'm so overwhelmed don't know what to say!
I feel really blessed!

hairycaterpillar · 23/01/2007 17:30

mummy2jake- look forward to hearing about your lovely wee one soon, sure you will be fine.

marmite - and to hear your news, as if you dont have enough to deal with being 8-9mths pregnant. Hope you manage to get it all sorted soon.

cadbury - how lovely of your friend to get you a new TS.

Most (but delighted of course !!) for all of you having niggles and signs that things are happening. I still haven't finished work yet and am really feeling the strain physically now, just desperate for things to happen...no idea how I'll survive the next 3-4 wks.

I'm planning to move dd out of cot in nursery and into her own room and big bed...hopefully so she doesnt think baby has stolen "her" room. I am loving kitting out a pink girly room, makes such a change from ds and his boy colours and things!

qsack · 23/01/2007 17:50

all the best mummy2jake, look fwd to hearing news of you're new babe.

can i just say that i don't know how much more i can take on the tummy stretching front. afternoon / eve is so much worse and how ever many pregnancies you have you don't remember this last month! 38 wks today and every move he makes (which is still quite a few) is so so uncomfortable. had visit at my hospitals birth centre yesterday and got me moving on the last few things we need to get sorted. first two 12 days over but i'm still trying to kid myself that this one might be early!

Tommy · 23/01/2007 18:12

good luck mummy2jake! (You've probably had your baby by now though!!!)

leahsmum · 23/01/2007 18:21

Good luck mummy2jake - must admit I'm quite jealous!
Had mw this afternoon and felt like crying afterwards. I just feel that 2nd time round they have no time for you - appt lasted a whole of about 5 mins. I'm 37weeks 2morrow and still not done my birthplan even though I have mentioned it the past twice I've been. Was a different mw 2day so I thought she might be a bit better but how wrong was I!
How often are you all seeing your mw's at the moment? I'm 37wk and she doesnt want me back for another 2wk but I made an appt for next wk anyway cos i feel that is too long. Not sure if i'm just being paranoid though - sometimes wonder if she has ever read my past notes - considering i was induced at 39wk due to pre eclampsia in my last pg i think i should at least be seen every week at this stage.

bubblebell1 · 23/01/2007 18:41

leashsmum - i thought u were seen every week from 36 weeks. you did what i would do tho just make an app. they cant refuse to see you.

good luck mummy to jake, hope all is well

ive had awful tightenings and sharp stabbing pains today feel so sorry for myself and cant see anything happening before my cs date. 2 weeks to go and it feels like 2 years. this last bit has to be the worst.

hope you are feeling better than me.

also sorry if too graphic but i had a go at feeling for my cervix and im not sure what it should be like i couldnt get my fingers in any further and it was all very soft. is that right or did i get lost

time4tea · 23/01/2007 19:10

hello all, so much posting, so exciting. i'm loving this - I was in a RL ante-natal NCT group last time, and it was lovely as well all got our babies with us.

sorry marmitemad about your burglary - I'm finding any kind of set-back tear-inducing right now, you must be so upset. Wishing you luck in getting it sorted. and your SIL had the sad news about the mc. I hope she (and you) are doing ok. wishing you flowers, cake and big hugs all round.

Currantbun - one book I recommend to any new parent - best and most practical one IMO - is by Clare Byam-Cook - called something like "What to do if you want to breast-feed.. and what if you can't" (will check on Amazon and post proper name if this is wrong) Very practical and non-guilt inducing, some lovely tips. I've also just been flicking through a Dorling Kindersly book by Steven and Shaaron Biddulph called Love, Laughter and Parenting.

My cs is booked for 4 weeks yesterday, I'm 35 weeks now. Midwives seem to have just downed tools on me now that this is decided, leaving 3 weeks between appts. Saw different ones each time, none particularly informative, although the last one was nice and supportive. I had a mc in April, so this has made me a bit jumpy about the whole pg - something which seemed to make no sense at all to most of the mw and drs I've seen..

A good friend had her DD2 just before Xmas, this has been great for me to see and touch a new born - and very sweet to see my DS (2.9) stroking her head and being so gentle... anyone else preparing older children to be sibs? its my major concern now....

looking forward to great news about lovely babies

time4tea · 23/01/2007 19:13

What to Expect When You're Breastfeeding...And What If You Can't? (Paperback)
by Clare Byam-Cook (Author)

there you go, proper name. Great stuff on feeding, how to do winding, how to cope with crying....

bunny3 · 23/01/2007 20:24

Mummy2jake - looking forwards to reading your birth announcement soon .

Hoping my baby is on the way, the head is engaged and I've had lots of bloody mucus - yuk - so maybe this one wont be late (both of mine were a week over due and I cant face 4 more weeks of this!)

It's getting exciting now!

leahsmum · 23/01/2007 20:24

time4tea I had a mc in January 06 too and feel that the mw doesnt understand my anxieties either.
also got an older sibling to prepare for the new arrival - my dd will be 3 in April and has been playing up the past few weeks - i think she now realises how close it is and is perhaps making sure that she is going to stay centre of our attention! Spent the entire evening last night making a reward chart for good behaviour - not sure how effective it'l be but can only give it a bash.

bunny3 · 23/01/2007 20:28

time4tea, between having my ds and my dd I had 2 mcs - when I got pg again I found the entire 9 months horrendously stressful. Even with this pg (my third successful one) I panic, I was sobbing yesterday at the hospital as the mw didnt locate a heartbeat straightaway. Once you have had a bad experience (ie a miscarriage) pregnancy is never the same. Your feelings are totally understandable and you are nearly there!

marmitemad · 23/01/2007 21:16

thanks for the tip about the boots free disposable camera - I got my boots vouchers on Friday but dumped them in my handbag and completely forgot about them so I will be returning the £9 camera to Sainsburys I bought today and off to Boots on Thursday morning. Do you need to ask for the free Huggies changing bag as I haven't seen it on display in my local Boots?
Will also be looking up the breastfeeding book as I don't feel properly prepared at the moment.
Feeling a bit better today - have been inundated with flowers and various forms of chocolate, hope the baby doesn't arrive next week as I don't think the house could cope with any more greenery.
Unsurprisingly my blood pressure is now very high (after being slightly raised on Thursday at hospital clinic) and I have to go back to midwife again tomorrow. Hoping they don't insist on taking evasive action as I still feel ok.

suzi2 · 23/01/2007 22:07

I'm seeing the mw once in a blue moon at the moment! Seeing her on Thurs at 37wks and I doubt I'll see her for a proper appointment again until 40 wks TBH. But I'm fairly happy with that as I've rarely found the mws I've had much use lol. Monitor my own BP at home anyway.

MUST call boots about my changing bag voucher tomorrow... will add it to my ever increasing list of things to do!

Am I the only one who doesn't want their baby just yet? I'm totally fed up being pg, have strained tummy muscles, sort pelvis, really sore ribs. But I don'[t feel I have the energy for labour and a newborn. Figure that pregnancy is still easier than that lol. Could really do with another couple of weeks...

sorkycake · 23/01/2007 22:09

So sorry to hear about your burglary Marmite, how awful for you...absolute twunts they are!
Mummytojake...outta nowhere, well hope all's going well for you and it's not too pokey .
I went shopping today and got my stroller out of Argos for 69.99, a M&P aria, with a free accessory kit which they've sold out of atm, still I'm sure we'll manage. I'm very pleased with it. Asda have their towels reduced so I got 6 beautiful fluffy white hand towels (1.50 each), 6 bath towels (3 quid each) and 3 of the most padded bath mats I've ever seen. This means the old white towels can be used for the birth without me wondering if I'll always have to boil wash them .
Cadbury how lovely of your friend! The Pliko is very nice, enjoy!
Have m/w visiting us tomorrow instead of the clinic as we are waiting in for a repairman for my oven which is poorly sick.
I can't wait to move onto the postnatal thread I have to say, I'm excited beyond belief .
Anyone heard from Becs21?

babydrivertoo · 23/01/2007 22:18

BTW the bf book that folks have mentioned is the one that is on offer free - in an abbreviated version - with Junior Pg & Baby at the mo. I thought it was pretty good.

mummy2jake, hope all has gone well and looking fwd to hearing your news.

marmitemad glad the initial shock has worn off and hope it doesn't harm your pg at all. What a bummer though - I hope they manage to find the culprits.

Saw the mw today. I've been going fortnightly recently, but will be seeing her again next week. I'm either 39wks tomorrow (by LMP dates) or on Saturday (by growth scan dates). Either way, shd be close. Baby now 2/5 engaged into pelvis and seems to be LOA (hurrah!!) - a better position sooner than I expected given it's a 2nd. Off to the hospital yesterday to get my TENS machine - they rent them out which is handy. Also put in my order to the NCT catalogue for a wilkinet sling, bf pillow and waterproof sheet (hope waters don't break before it arrives - the one I had last time is now on DS's bed) so when they arrive, that will be all the stuff accounted for.

take care all.

babydrivertoo · 23/01/2007 22:19

sorry, I mean off to hospital tomorrow! (I don't have a time machine, just an addled brain!!)

peachygirl · 23/01/2007 22:32

Hi late nighters
I have been seing MW every two weeks and it will be the GP tomorrow.
Cadbury what a lovely friend you have.
bunny I hope you are OK,

sorkycake · 23/01/2007 22:37

Peachy was it you who mentioned the stabbing pains in the fanjo area, cos I don't remember these from my last pg's and they are rather painful as I lie here. What the hell are they?

peachygirl · 23/01/2007 22:49

not me initially. Moos ma said this....
'KNUF stands for Knitting Needles Up Fanny and describes the sharp pain in the cervix (or near by) that makes you wince and look like you're about to wee yourself!'.
I've had some but not loads, could t be baby moving inot position???
At the moment baby has been moving as if she is doing that whole rippling body on floor break dancing move.
