Hi new year, new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DrJo · 12/01/2007 15:43

well impressed with everyone's level of preparation - DS1 was 2 weeks late so I think I may still have another >6 weeks to go despite being 35.5 wks pregnant now - this may account for why all the clothes and nappies, cot, car seat etc are still in the loft and we have yet to agree on possible names
Agree with everyone else's "looking forward to lists" especially re sleeping positions. I will be happy to:

  1. be able to wear some different colour clothes (my maternity stuff is all black for some reason),
  2. go clothes shopping and buy something that is a normal size again. 3)run around with DS1 again and not have to waddle after him as he runs off,
  3. be able to walk between two parked cars without wondering if I can get past the wing mirrors
  4. have an alcoholic drink (not too fussy what: red wine, guinness, whisky, G&T...) 6)to spending some time off work and getting to know my new baby
MoosMa · 12/01/2007 17:08

Loving the wish lists, I def agree with the sleeping positions, I normally sleep on my front so am looking forward to that. I remember being told last time that I still wouldn't be able to because of hurting boobs but I had a couple of days before that happened and it was lovely to lie on tummy
Have been craving vodka and coke in the evenings recently (but have held out!) so will enjoy the first of those.

The room is half done, just needs another coat of paint, a floor and some furniture (watching a cot on ebay at the mo as DH has run out of time to make one )

Those still working, have a nice weekend, surely only a few working days to go now?

Sallyallyally · 12/01/2007 18:11

Is anyone getting really sharp groin area pains. Feels like head is playing trampolines on my cervix. Been suffering for past few days now but happening more and more often. Not SPD, but like head pressing down..makes me catch my breath and then squirms for a minute or so! (no abdominal pain!)

Tommy · 12/01/2007 18:14

yes me sallyally - I feel like I've be riding a horse or having very enthusiastic all day sex....... neither of which are figuring highly on my list of perferred activites at the moment

suzi2 · 12/01/2007 21:04

sallyallyally - a lady on my last AN club (who is now training as a mw) used to describe pain that she called KNUF... Knitting Needle Up Fanny . Is that it? If so, I get that now and then.

MoosMa · 12/01/2007 21:10

Sallyallyally I've been getting that for a while too, it really hurts doesn't it?

Yippee, got a cot for £44 then found we had some forgotten money in the Paypal account so only had to pay £33!

babydrivertoo · 12/01/2007 21:16

eek 37 weeks now, so could happen anytime!

sallyallyally, not getting quite the same thing as you I don't think, but I'm getting these really odd 'twangs' in the ligament at the top of my left thigh which sometimes hurt and sometimes don't but make my leg go all jellylike for a few moments. Osteopath says it's nothing to worry about but feels odd anyway.

Someone - sorry, forgot who - asked about homoeopathy in labour and afterwards. Used it last time and planning to again. I took arnica 200 tablets 2hrly thru labour and for first few days after, and had no bruising or soreness afterwards despite stitches etc. Also, some of the remedies are very good in helping to establish bfing esp if it's tricky in the first few weeks which it was for me.

Like the lists of things looked forward too. LOL at walking between cars in carparks! I'm looking forward to a nice big slab of stinky blue cheese and some overripe camembert.

Only prediction I'm going to make is that I think it will be a girl - if it's a boy it will be nameless for a while as we still haven't agreed one!

peachygirl · 12/01/2007 21:35

Hi, my predictions are
... a girl.. hopefully between 6 -7lbs arriving either a few days early or a few days late but not on the 18th Feb (MILs birthday) Brown hair.
We will be in the new house and nearly everythig will be unpacked. At moment this doesn't look like it's happening , as we have had to change solicitors. I am slightly cross with DH in that while he was arguing with the estate agents, who have presured us into this change, he failed to mention I am 8 months pregnant and we thus have a sense of urgency about the move.
Mostly I am looking forward to a nice cold glass of wine and lots of cheese... brie, dolchelatte..stilton...and the stupid tingly fingers going away (I had a bit of Bowen therapy from my deputy head today to see if it helped, she has gone away to look it up over the weekend)
Well done about the cot Moosma and great aboutthe money . I love things like that It's like finding a £5 in your pocket.
I've experienced a bit of KNUF, in the last couple of mornings

OP posts:
suis · 12/01/2007 22:20

Ah.... things to look forward to...

  • being able to get in and out of the bath unaided
  • brie with grapes and red wine
  • being able to sit at a table, not about a foot back from it
  • gin
  • having the use of my stomach muscles
  • being allowed to go up step ladders or life something heavier than tissue paper without everyone lecturing me
  • being able to sleep (when I get the opportunity)
  • not having sausage fingers
  • not having to repeat my due date, current measurements, not knowing the sex etc etc everytime I talk to anyone.
  • having enough lung capacity to be able to yawn effectively
  • underwired bras (eventually)
  • putting my socks on without using advanced yoga techniques
  • not being spoken to like pregnancy is inversely proportionate to intelligence.
  • random strangers not staring at me and especially stopping touching my bump
  • not being a moany cow all the time
mummy2jake · 12/01/2007 22:24

hi there 36+1 and i am definetly experiencing KNUF also had to go to labour ward for a check up last night as had a tender spot on top of bump for two days aswell as lots of sharp pains across bump then to top it off baby decided it wanted to stop moving for most of the day so midwife told me i had to go in and as soon as the monitor was on baby woke up.
thankfully the tender spot has gone now and had a trip to fetal well being unit today where i was sent for a scan and baby was fine and there estimating it to be about 7lb 5oz already.
hope everyones not feeling the strain to much take care xx

penguinette · 12/01/2007 22:35

All these lists are making my mouth water! would kill for a nice slice of stilton and a glass of red wine! and sleeping on my tummy...
Babydrivetoo - i am interested in using homeopathy in birth - when did you start taking the arnica? did you use a number of remedies during birth? how long afterwards did you continue taking it? just curious about how to use it really...
also, anyone has any ideas/comments regarding a machine called Epi-No? it is a sort of balloon thing which is supposed to help prevent tears/episiotomy etc.
Thanks and have a great weekend everyone
we can all spend the weekend fantasizing about our wish list - after all its coming so soon!
XXXX

thelittlestboho · 13/01/2007 10:09

Love the wish lists too, lol. Top of mine has to be "being a normal person again", was told two days ago that I'm severely anaemic, which would explain a lot of the fainting feelings I've had and general weakness/lack of breath, on top of that I've had that stinky virus too,add all this to spd and it's been a barrel of laughs, NOT!! I'm not going to be "victimised" by all these things and at least I know the end is in sight soon. We went to Ikea last night, I was determined to get finishing touchs for my boudoir, and had to concede that I couldn't do it on foot, cue the humiliation of a wheelchair!!FFS!! DP and DD2 were amused by the whole episode at the start, but weren't so cocky two hours later having had to schlep me around entire store, Mwahahahar!! Revenge was mine!! On the unexpected bonus side of all these lame ailments, turns out that my spd has actually helped counteract the symptoms of anaemia, midwife reckons that because I have been housebound and withdrawn from general activities, I haven't had to experience the full blown effects of it. She said she was surprised I didn't look like a ghost given the results.Heyho, every cloud has a silver lining!

Hope we all have a fabulous weekend.

tlb.xx

snugglebunny · 13/01/2007 17:33

YUM!!! Am looking forward to all those delicious things too . . . but must say that lately I have been feeling a little "sad" at the prospect of not being pregnant for very much longer - feel kinda special and priviledged with a bump!
Here's some positive thoughts for all of you:
Friends neighbour had baby boy on Thursday - 1.5 hours labour, no pain meds, just gas and air and little one was out after 4 pushes!!
We can all dream . . . cant we??

andyrobo237 · 13/01/2007 20:23

All is well here - I managed to have a half decent nights sleep - feel quite wide awake at this time of day (unusual for me!!). My bump has definately dropped lower down - not sure if this is a sign of anything or not, but I can breathe and eat better! My insulin and blood sugar levels have been better today - I am now 34 weeks! Only 6 more to go!!!!

Baby is still active and I too keep getting those painful pains down below - the knitting needle analogy is very true!!

suis · 14/01/2007 04:02

Joy of joys, I finished work on Friday. Got lots of vouchers and nice clothes and things, and a constant stream of people coming by to wish me well... so much so that I nearly 2 hours late in actually leaving the building. I do feel something of a weight lifted off my shoulders, although I am already wondering what I am going to do all day at home on my own... I'm sure I'll cope mind you {grin].

Celebrated by spending most of today asleep (now wide awake with jumpy leg of course) and have developed sore knuckle joints in my sausage fingers. I seem to be turning into the Michelin woman even more than before. My hands and feet are getting so uncomfortable that I am quite glad of not having an hours drive each way to work now.

Snugglebum - meant to say... checked out the website, your stuff looks great and well priced too. I've got a couple Bravado bras already (can highly recommend them as being a "big girl" in the first place they are the only sort that fits me, and they are soooo comfy) and I've been looking into re-usable nappies and yours are the cheapest I've seen. Don't knock your website either... I've done a bit of webdesign in my time too and it's pretty good. Does what it needs to do in an easy to follow, understandable and professional way without being overly complicated, looking cheap or off putting.

(can't believe I'm discussing the finer points of website usability and design in an ante-natal thread... didn't I jsut say I'd finished work)

Anyway..I'll shut up now... nothing better to do at 4 am than type enormous posts obviously....

margo1974 · 14/01/2007 12:23

Gals, I am sorry to impose on your thread but I thought you might want another suggestion for your hospital bags. When you go into our hospital the midwives frown on using baby wipes on babies so young and tell you to pack cotton wool balls in your bag.
I found some large cotton wool pads in Superdrug and you can wet one half and leave the other half dry to dry their little bottoms before doing up the nappy. And they dont fluff up all over you clothes. Much better than feeble cotton wool balls which make you get poo on your fingers. I have been looking for these for ages as I got some pads in a starter set from Babies r Us when I had dd1 and never saw them stocked since then.

Anyway good luck and take care.

suzi2 · 14/01/2007 13:00

Just remembered something else for the hospital bag too... wet loo roll wipes. Fortunately I wasn't 'raw' enough for the need, but I've been told by many that they're much more comfy on sore bits than scratchy paper.

MoosMa · 14/01/2007 16:07

Another thing I'm looking forward to: being able to "pop". I can't pop upstairs or pop into the kitchen, only waddle slowly with lots of oofing.

Things I shall miss about being pg:
Having a LO in my tummy
Not having to worry how flat my stomach looks
Having big boobs!

Bienchen · 14/01/2007 16:41

Hi all - hope you are enjoying your weekend. Finally got round to putting the changing table together. Was a flatpack job around £15 from IKEA, very well made and an absolute steal at the price. We were given a food hamper for Christmas which I emptied out and the wicker base fits the bottom shelf very nicely and we'll have somewhere to put the nappies and assorted paraphernalia.

Went for a long walk this lunchtime, must have been about 3.5 miles and I was glad to sit down at the end. Yes, that's the same person that was crawling all around the Peak District last June.....

Otherwise I think hormones are finally kicking in and I feel a lot more tearful all of a sudden w/o an obvious reason at all. Still, am telling myself only 6 more weeks to go

SmudgeMum · 14/01/2007 19:28

Hi all, snugglebunny know what you mean a bit about thinking I might miss being pregnant or maybe not!! Actually there is something nice about people being nice to you and asking when it's due etc etc but hey we'll soon have a LO and everyone can then say how lovely they are how old are they?

I went into town with DH yesterday afternoon and we were having a look for curtains for the babies room. After about 2 hours of walking round town we went for a coffee. It was really lovely but I then realised how shattered I was. When we got home I had to have a sit down for about 30 mins before I could contemplate moving again - the being tired is something I def. won't miss.

Interested in the real nappies thing. We've been thinking about it but I think I want to see some in real life before we commit to anything.

My bag is packed sort of but it's already very full. I keep thinking of other things to take and then realise that DH can always bring stuff in.

I hope things are good with Plumpbump - do let us know how you are getting on.

peachygirl · 14/01/2007 21:07

Hi all, hope you have had a good weekend.

We had our last NCT day whcih was good and I think I will get on well with some of the other mums to be.
I haven't touched my 'provisional' bag for a while and it is a bit of a mess. Next week when my mat leave starts I will get to it properly. I might have to go for two smaller bags rather than one big one.
Five days of work to go and one of them is out the classroom for paperwork... anyone else on the final countdown this week.. all together now, de na na naaah, de na na na na

OP posts:
snugglebunny · 15/01/2007 10:14

SmudgeMum - OH YES - there are LOTS of things I WONT miss!!! The tiredness is def one of them - becomes very frustrating being so slow at everything!! That and the groin pain, backache, nausea, hip pain, generally feeling like a combination of a whale and an old age pensioner . . . need I continue??

Also really keen to use real nappies - just concerned as to how quickly LO will grow out of them and how many you need to keep yourself going while the others dry! Will chat to other mums who are using them before I commit myself. Do feel guilty about filling up the landfill sites with hundreds of nappies that take years to biodegrade SIGH

MoosMa · 15/01/2007 12:25

I don't really want to start a big discussion here as I'm sure there area better threads for it, but just wanted to say that I use TotsBots Fluffles on DD1 and they're really good. They're made of microfleece so dry ridiculously quickly and although they're shaped they're suitable for use from 8lbs as they fold into themselves.

Another thing I won't miss - getting thrush every other week

hairycaterpillar · 15/01/2007 14:20

Hi all!

Glad to see I'm not the only one desperate for all the woes of pregnancy to end! 5 weeks to go now for me hoorah the end is in sight. Don't finish work until 38wks so most of all you who have already stopped.

Cloth nappies, i've used motherease one size nappies with both ds and dd...although have a few tots and bamboozles too. Dd still in nappies so not really looking forward to having two in nappies, but cant be bothered trying to get dd toilet trained befre baby arrives.

Anyway off to snuggle up on sofa with dd who's not v well at the moment...any excuse really to lie under duvet on sofa and ignore all chores needing done is fine by me at the moment .

babydrivertoo · 15/01/2007 14:33

penguinette, I got the labour & childbirth homoeopathic kit from Helios pharmacy (you can find them on line or call them - they're very helpful over the phone). The pack comes with a mini guide about which remedy to use when. There are lots of remedies that I didn't use in the end but worth it for the mega strength arnica, which I started taking as soon as the labour pains started and continued with throughout. There was also pulsatilla which I found really handy for bfing and the day my milk came in when I felt really weepy. Secale for helping 3rd stage. Caulophyllum for slow labour. Kali something for backache labour. All potentially useful. Basically, the theory is that none of them, even if taken 'wrongly' will harm you, but the right remedy at the right time shd help.

snugglebum, thanks for the order by the way - all arrived safely at the end of last week. Vests look good - more robust than the green baby ones (which died on me last time which is why I needed more...)

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I'm part way through the mega clearout which every room in the house seems to need. Trip to the dump yesterday with a full boot, and the local charity shops are doing very well too. I just know if I don't do all this now, I'll never get to it with the baby around and it'll start to get me down.

Another thing for the hospital bag BTW - can't remember if anyone's mentioned it before - but a pen and paper are v handy.

Take care all.
