oh no sher! how on earth will you clean it? I don't have any suede items purely as I am clumsy AF and know I would ruin anything suede haha
gem I think what your MW said is prob the best way to go. I know some people plan to have an epidural and totally respect that some people would rather a pain free labour, but there are distinct drawbacks from having it done - basically the increased risk of tearing/episiotomy/ventouse/forceps. But tbh when I had my epidural, I really did need it and have no problem with the fact I had it done - this was despite me begging them not to give it to me (they had to convince me it was in my best interests, and they were right, as I couldn't go on after being up for that long).
me I would deffo say to write in your birth plan that students can observe but not do procedures! I also had a student MW do an internal exam to check how far along I was, and it wasn't hugely comfortable. She also couldn't tell what position DD was in and I think this contributed to me not being diagnosed as having back to back baby until I was transferred to the delivery suite. So all in all, my experience with medical students has not been great! I am more than happy outside of labour situation to let medical students do stuff, and have consented to injections and other checks, but when you're in labour and in that much pain, it just isn't worth it to have someone inexperienced. I feel bad saying it because everyone has to learn somehow, but god it just wasn't worth the hassle to be a nice person!
I was also sick in labour but only once in the first stage quite early (well after 24 hours or so) and before I'd gone to hospital. DP was going on at me to eat some food and I couldn't face it, forced myself to and was sick within an hour. should have listened to my body!
I think gas and air is definitely one of these things you either take to or not - but given it lasts a very short amount of time, its worth trying out. I was really worried it wouldn't agree with me as (confession time ) in my younger days when I used to go clubbing, we used to do nitrous oxide (I think it's been banned now but 10 years or so ago was very prevalent in clubs and festivals) and after a while it really started to disagree with me - made me paranoid and hallucinate which I hated. So I was apprehensive about using it in birth but obviously you have a much more controlled/lower dosage in hospital, and it just made me feel a bit light headed. not drunk as such (though DP said that I sounded drunk when talking after taking it), just 'nice'. It was great. Didn't work so well once I was a bit farther along though!
hello to all newbies and welcome! [waves]
