heeelllooooooo and good morning ladies.

re movement, it does sound like it's the baby moving around & not your lunch. with my DS I was never sure if this was "it" either, as he was my first. this time round though I think I'll know when the first flutters happen. That said, still waiting, and I'm 15+3. It's just a bit tricky cuz you also tend to develop larger amounts of wind at the same stage. great, eh?

also non-meat eater for the time being. The thought of chomping on some cooked chicken makes my toes curl. I could eat pounds of cheese at one sitting though...

lildrummerKel · 13/12/2006 10:24

BTW Kittykat, do you have panics about managing with 2, or is it just me? Like, what on earth do you do when you've got to feed 1, and 2 needs a boob/bottle? Or, what if both are screaming and dirty nappies everywhere? People must have found ways to manage this before since most families aren't 1-kid only....right? Pls tell me i'm right?

MagicGenie · 13/12/2006 12:30

Hi all, ta for starting new thread.

ChristmasMadwithBump · 13/12/2006 12:55

Hi N&T&B how are you?

Can I ask every one please, I'm only 6 weeks (I'm on due in august tread) myself and I have bad MS at the mo but I was wondering when did your MS subside? If you had any, And what helped with your MS? You can tell me to bog off if you like LOL!

lildrummerKel · 13/12/2006 13:46

welcome xmasmad - no bogging off here - with my first pg (last year!) my ms abated for about two weeks, around the midway mark. Felt downright miserable the whole time as it was "supposed" to "fade" after 1st trimester. However my little break did come just in time for Christmas last year so it worked out quite well really. Noshed and even drank some champers. Whoo-hoo! This time round I've been fortunate enough (THANK THE LORD) to have the ms actually go away when it's supposed to (around about 12-13 weeks). While I had it, the only thing which helped was eating small meals often. And I mean, often. Like every 2 hours, all day long. Even if it's just toast, or plain pasta, or a doughnut - though the greasy stuff usually didn't sit as well. Oh and caffeine made my stomach ache. A good rest during the day also helps loads... last time I was working full-time in the City and I nearly fainted so many times, it was stupid. Now I'm SAHM and it's much, much better.

Good luck & nice to meet you

daisymlaisy · 13/12/2006 15:40

hi everyone, haven't been on for ages for one thing or another, but we have had our 12 week scan and all is well, we were told baby was huge, he/she is right at the far end of the length scale. Anyone elses little one this big?

Bit worried about my weight gain, I've been reading that alot of you haven't put any weight on, I've put on about 6 pounds (3kg) in 14 weeks! whoops. I was 9 and half stone now 10. I was so determined this time round (my second pregnancy) I was going to be one of these people who just put on baby. But it looks like I may end up putting on 3 stone like the first time. I don't feel I'm eating that much more, I think its more due to the lack of exercise as I have been quite lazy with bad ms. Sorry about rant!

TALLULAHBELLE · 13/12/2006 16:29

New thread -woo hoo. Thanks N&T&B. Was finding it a bit of a drag to scroll to bottom to post - pg fatigue obviously!

TALLULAHBELLE · 13/12/2006 16:38

Sorry ChristmasMWB but I'm 15 weeks tomorrow and still nauseous almost constantly. On the plus side have only puked twice this week (though once at work) which is BIG improvement as up to now it's been every evening with the head down the bog. However, quite a few folk seemed to get better around 10-12 weeks so fingers crossed you're one of those. In the meantime I just eat constantly cos its the only thing that makes me feel better. Sadly my clothes no longer fit and I've got a cheese and Pringles bump which hopefully I can pass off as a baby bump when I announce my pregnancy .

marylou23 · 13/12/2006 17:37

With you on the cheese and pringles bump - mine's more walnut whip and chocolate biscuits. I'm 13+3 and still get MS from time to time - mostly when I'm hungry; but I also get it if I eat a lot in one sitting, too, and then it's worse. Is anyone else feeling really grumpy? I'm usually a v. sunny, cup half full person, but lately I feel like a grumpy old woman. Not with DH (luckily for him), but with traffic, television programmes, friends, family, anyone who dares to ask me for anything, anyone who dares to phone up after 8pm, anyone who asks me how I am like I'm ill... I've become so impatient!!
Hey ho. Got to go out tonight and would love a night in front of the telly instead (see? grumpy again). Speak soon!!

comebacksummer · 13/12/2006 17:37

Hi everyone
Just had what felt like litres of blood taken, in front of my two little ones as I couldn't get a babysitter, me looking green whilst exclaiming, "see, it doesn't hurt mummy a bit" ho ho. So will have combined bloods and nuchal through soon, i guess.. didn't have this with first two, just nuchal, so no idea what this adds but went with the flow! I too have put on weight- I hazarded a guess at 4 punds with the midwife today but she happily told me it was 8- 8!!! Shit- I put on 4 stone with both my dds and was hoping not to repeat this.. looks like it may be 5!! I just don't get time to do any exercise and obviously running around after a 2 and 4 yr old ain't cutting it... sigh. Perhaps I should stop eating cheese and biscuits every 4 hours..has become a habit now, ms went a few weeks ago!

ChristmasMadwithBump · 13/12/2006 17:42

Sorry to keep asking question, but on our tread no one knows when to book our first MW app, could you please piont us to the right week to book and did the MW book/make your 12 scan app? I have 2 DS but everything I've seem to have forgoton!

lildrummerKel · 13/12/2006 17:53

Hiya,
Might vary from place to place, but I first went to my GP to break the news following BFP. We agreed on a hospital and then she (the GP) contacted them. I received a letter telling me when to come for my booking appointment with MW at 14 weeks and when to have my first (nuchal/dating combo) scan at 13 weeks. Once you're booked in with the hospital they tell you when you'll be seeing midwives and/or GP after that for checkups. Does that help?

doggus · 13/12/2006 18:04

I'm 12 weeks, and thought the ms had gone as I had a puke-free week last week. However yesterday it returned with a vengeance and I'm back to swooning on the sofa again.

Does anyone else have pg food fads? I keep getting the hots for one type of grub (at the moment it's clementines) which I eat night and day and then suddenly I can't face looking at another. It means I am constantly trotting to the supermarket for new crazes.

Orchide · 13/12/2006 19:17

I had ms up to about week 12ish - although this was always nausea, was never actually sick.

I have however been eating HUGE numbers of pickled onions in the last few weeks which i have to put down to pregnancy!! Whilst i liked them befopre, never actually ate them on their own or in such vast quantities. Have eaten a massive jar full almost completely on my own in the past month Have gone off anythign spicy, can no longer stomach anything spicy, chillies etc.

Thankds everyone for your thoughts about baby movements - its good to know im not imagining it!

Orchidex

ChristmasMadwithBump · 13/12/2006 19:29

I felt 2nd DS movements at 13-14 weeks which was unbelievable!

Wishing you all happy healthy PG's!

Thanks 4 all your info and input, most grateful, Babymadxx

NattyandThomasandBumpandSanta · 13/12/2006 22:36

sputnik · 14/12/2006 11:31

Hi all,
Christmasmad, from reading this thread it seems it really varies alot with the MS, I'm 12 weeks and it went away a couple of weeks ago, last ime round I only had it for 2 weeks and it went away around 9. I found eating often helped. Pringles, served 3 at a time while driving home from the supermarket were particularly effective. Then I had a couple of weeks of real faddishness which sounds exactly like what Doggus describes, and now I seem nearly back to normal, apart from craving huge plates of pasta.

HOWEVER here I am 3 kgs heavier than before, so Daisymlaisy, you are not alone. I really should be restarting some exercise now I feel a bit more normal, but lacking motivation (not the best time of year either). Anyone feel like a mutual kick up the butt to get each other moving?

marylou23 · 14/12/2006 13:07

Definitely; I could really use the motivation. Can I just ask what we're allowed to do, though? I know you're meant to keep your heartrate under 140, but what about weights etc? And is it true you can't lie on your back, or is that later on? All I'm doing at hte moment is going off on walks around the park to clear my head but it certainly isn't making up for all the chocolate I'm mainlining...

Seansgirl · 14/12/2006 13:27

Hi Everyone,

Can I join your thread please? Everyone sounds so positive and happy its heart warming

I am 12 weeks tomorrow already have 1 DD and hoping that will have a playmate for her in June! And then thats me done! Cant stand the stress of prg!

My 12 week scan has been postponed til new year which will make me 15 weeks so have booked a private one tomorrow just so I can be reassured as apart from ms coming and going and extending waist want to know whats going on in there and that alls ok!

And Doggus - I too have hit the pickled onions and also coleslaw....full fat version naturally!!

Daisybump · 14/12/2006 14:06

Just found the new thread....I thought everyone had just gone quiet since Tuesday!!

Hi Seansgirl and welcome the the club!

Food fads...I have been eating mini pickled gherkins dipped in sour cream and chive dip on and off for ages, but the cravings for them are getting stronger, and I've been wondering over the last day or two what they would taste like dipped into really nice vanilla ice-cream or yogurt Also got a bit of a chilli vibe going on and just polished off chili and chips from the local chippy. Feeling a bit smug that I've not put on any weight as baby seems to be growing fine, but have the nasty feeling I'm going to wake up one morning and find I've lumped on half a stone overnight!

MS pretty much gone, apart from the fact that chilli and gherkins (and of course galaxy chocolate) aside, I can't face food.

Having a clothes crisis too at the moment. It's our office do on Saturday and I've got nothing to wear. Ordered a dress from fun mum but I'm not pg enough for it yet...just look lumpy and fat ! dug out my old party trousers from 2 years ago as I've lost over a stone since then, but can't get the zip up. So, will be braving the Christmas hordes on Saturday trying to find something suitable. Might try two sizes too big and see how I go with that. Any suggestions....bought some maternity trousers for work and they're a bit puckered around the waist still and not really smart enpough for a party...that and I've been wearing them to work.

Also been on a bit of a short fuse but starting to feel that 2nd trimester calmness. Definately back to my regular swimming after Christmas.

Phew....should post more often and then I wouldn't have so much to say

geordiemacmincepie · 14/12/2006 14:12

Hey ladies.. just popping accross from the April thread.... was just wondering whether we had any scottish mums on here... if so, there is a new thread in the pregnancy section entitled bumps north of the border... please pop in and say hello.. we have occasional meet ups and generally moan about the state of the scottish health system.

Apologies for the blatent tout..

NattyandThomasandBumpandSanta · 14/12/2006 14:27

Daisybump

pickled gherkins mmmmm...... like the sour cream not sure about the icecream.....

Not sure about the the xmas outfit... stretchy trouseurs? Saw some on funmum looked promising and one of those tops that trinny and susannah always going about were they are low cut, fitted round top and flares out under your boobs saw some nice ones in principles.

sputnik · 14/12/2006 15:07

I've looked up about exercising during pg and the consensus seems to be nothing too high impact, no heavy weights (light ones fine though), don't overheat and no abs after end of 1st trimester. Oh and kick boxing is probably out too. Other than that the world is our oyster.
Normally I would do a few step-ups interspersed with stretching type stuff, lunges, light weights etc, and I did this to some extent during the second trimester of my last pg so I guess it's ok. They say swimming is good too.
Annobal are you lurking out there? Haven't seen you on this thread for a while but I'm interested to know whether you're implementing this gentle birth plan stuff yet, how it's going, what kind of exercise it involves etc. as I'm seriously thinking about getting the book.

Anyway.... clothes, a subject close to my heart! I've been going for the next size up option as mat. clothes way too big yet, I also got a sort of knitted skirt that has lots of give around the waist so should last a while in that. Daisybump, have you thought of a sweaterdress? Very in at the moment and if everyone knows you're pg then you can get away with any bulges, or else find a nice scarf that sways around distractingly in front of your bump. Big necklaces also a good distraction technique.

Welcome Seansgirl you should've heard us a few weeks ago when we were all moaning our way through ms . Things do seem to be cheering up a bit round here though on the whole. Wanted to let you and other recent arrivals know that there is a stats thread here where you can let the rest of us nosy people know about yourself . It had fallen way down the list and got nearly invisible.

Right I'm off to carry some firewood up the steps and do some vigorous hoovering in the name of my new exercise pledge but just wanted to add this handy fact: it's been scientifically proven that babies whose mothers eat chocolate during pg are happier .

doggus · 14/12/2006 17:56

LOL sputnik at the chocolate and your Pringles habit!

I'm having a fashion crisis too. I haven't put on weight but I have def fattened up round my tummy. What is worse however is I have a huge podgy layer above my tummy button to under my breasts which just makes clothes look rubbish. I have two parties to go to and am going into town tomorrow to search for a (very) empire line dress.

Hello to seansgirl, I'm 12 weeks too...

I'm up for some mutual motivation to get exercising. I do think it is partly the season, not just pg, I just want to snuggle indoors and eat crumpets.
