I suppose I'm just frightened of having a double coz they are all so big! Bearing in mind I've been using a Quinny Zapp for the past year, anything seems big compared to that! I think I'm gonna go for the Phil & Teds, maybe I'll ask my godmother for it. She is super rich!

My lovely gorgeous dd slept in her cot all night without waking up once!! HOORAY!!! She got super cuddles when she woke up this morning! Hope it lasts tho .

sputnik · 06/02/2007 10:27

Hooray H&A, you have given me hope! I'm a big softy like you by the way and love having DD in the bed, but I know that I have to bite the bullet on this as she'd squash the new baby and he'd wake her up.

That buggy is cute, have you considered one of these instead of a double? Never seen one in real life though and saw a review saying they're crap, so maybe not.

marylou23 · 06/02/2007 10:46

Question about midwives... Just had my 21 week appointment and all she did was give me my notes and look at my scan info. I was expecting urine samples, blood test, check for heartbeat, etc etc, but apparently that doens't happen until 26 weeks. Is this normal? Last time I was checked was by doctor at 18 weeks and he didn't check the baby, just my heart and lungs.

sputnik · 06/02/2007 10:50

Ah Lilkel, I meant here in Italy we get the late scan. It's supposed to check the condition of the placenta in case it won't make it to term. Having a scan that late is strange, as you can't really see the whole baby, just bits of it all squashed up and quite hard to identify. If you're lucky you might get to see the face.

hollyandalice · 06/02/2007 10:53

Marylou I think it depends on the mw and the area you live in. My mw does urine and baby's hb everytime, but she doesn't do bloods, I have to go to hospital for that. My last mw for dd did bloods at the surgery. I think they are all different and sometimes it depends on how many women they have to see and how much time they have. That is a bit mean though, not letting you hear the hb, it only takes a min.

Thanks for the tip sputnik. I found some buggypod reviews - some were good and some were bad! Maybe I'll find a shop that sells them and go and test it. Good idea though, thanks!

Seansgirl · 06/02/2007 12:13

Agree with H&A Marylou your MW seems a bit tight it should only take a few mins FGS!. My MW the same as H&A she does urine and hb everytime and bloods at hospital, she did hb at 16 weeks. I asked then if I could go at 18 weeks to hear hb for reassurance, which she said no problem and said I could go at 22 weeks too if I wanted of course jumped at the chance! Think she remembers how stressy I was last time and is thinking anything for a quiet life!

Daisybump · 06/02/2007 13:16

How do i measure with the sheets of loo roll again? If i just go from side to side ovver biggest bit of bump it's 6 sheets....but if I go all the way around its 9.5. Hopew it's not all the way around as that makes me the biggest. Or is it SFH like the midwife does with her tape...if so we should all be about the same no? help I'm confused.
Trace/marylou...sorry about your news , but hope its not getting you down too much. sending lots of {{hugs}}
Not posted since last week but had LOL reading all the recent stuff about shopping.
Sorry to hear that there are some problems out there...thoughts are with you all. I've been feeling even more knackered and irritable and have taken to hurling missiles in order to vent my spleen...not good for the mug situation in our house and DH is going to start wearing body armour. Not taken any vits for ages so think maybe a side effect, if what you lot are saying about iron deficiency is true. Seeing mw next week (nearly seven weeks since last appointment) so I'll ask her to take bloods then. Meanwhile I'll get back on the multivits.

marylou23 · 06/02/2007 13:45

Yeah, this is making me think my midwives are rubbish. I've never had my stomach measured or felt; I've only had my bloods/urine etc checked once (at 12 weeks); I've had no questions about general well being; and she didn't even ask today if the baby's moving. I was literally in there for ten minutes, and she kept looking at her watch too...
Hmmmmmmm
Hey ho. Saw the Cath Kidston nappy bag in the flesh (so to speak) yesterday (there's a shop just a hop, skip and jump away from the hospital) and it seemed a bit big to me, but then I'm not very au fait with nappies... It just seemed a bit cumbersome and heavy (without any nappies even in it), so might have a slight rethink. Although it is wipe clean and the patters are just lovely. Ooh, decisions decisions. (really should get on with some work but am finding it increasingly hard to fit it in these days )

sputnik · 06/02/2007 14:14

Know what you mean about the work, but so hard to fit in what with the virtual shopping and everything....

You don't need a changing bag, honestly, get a nice, not too small bag for YOU, YOU, YOU: you will thank yourself for it you know, whereas the baby never will . If you really must, Bumperlicious started a thread here , loads of links there.

Daisybump, the virtual shopping is much better therapy than throwing things at people, as long as you don't actually buy anything! I'm on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster too, and it doesn't help at all knowing it's just the hormones.

sputnik · 06/02/2007 14:56

This would fit nicely in most bags I reckon. All you need IMO and dead cheap too (can't look at the background on that web page though, ouch)

hollyandalice · 06/02/2007 15:26

Maybe it's just me, but I find a big changing bag v useful. When I go out I have to make sure I have a change of clothes, snacks, juice, nappies, wipes, a book and a changing mat and that is just for dd. I can't be doing with an extra bag so I also have to have my bits (keys, purse, phone etc.) in the bag as well. I have to have everything I need to hand otherwise I don't feel relaxed when I'm out. Now with a little ds coming along I'm going to have to carry twice as much. Therefore I can justify buying a big changing bag, perhaps like the Cath Kidston one !!!

hollyandalice · 06/02/2007 15:39

Hooray!! I found the changing bag I want on ebay . £40 does sound a lot for a 2nd hand bag. Maybe I'll just watch it and see what happens. Dp would kill me !

notsolilKel · 06/02/2007 16:13

Hiya!

I have to second the idea of a bigger nappy bag. It is amazing how much crap you need...don't forget how much room bottles, powder, bottle warmer take up. And spare blanket, hat in case a breeze comes up, emergency toy, muslins... I actually find that I have two (sorry all DH's who surely will curse me now ) -- a smaller one for shorter trips to the shops and a bigger one for all-day or half-day excursions. Plus my own bag. I mean, a girl has to have her own bag, you know . Just tuck it onto the handlebar of your buggy - get hooks if you have a one-piece handlebar. The hooks are dead useful anyway. Wait, actually I have 3 nappy bags. Another one which is always packed for nursery (just an old messenger bag). Here is my big bag (see Manhattan model) . Found these in the States, sooo lovely in person...and the one side unzips to fold out into a changing mat. Very clever. I got mine on Ebay!!

SO I have to thank you for sending me to New Look (ahem, sorry, neu look). The most fab pair of ballet flats in cream leather - yummy! And a very cool cowl-neck long-line jumper, oh and at Topshop got a very groovy top, it's like the whole shop has gone maternity...whoo-hoo

(sorry for hightened excitement about menial things, it's the double hit of Krispy Kreme I had today ) ...or it could be the SpaTone. It's amazing stuff - thanks Marylou!! ((HUGS))

hollyandalice · 06/02/2007 16:24

OOOO Krispy Kreme!! You can't get them down here . I used to get them almost everyday when I lived near London coz one of my members of staff's mum used to work in the Krispy Kreme factory. She used to bring them in most mornings (surprisingly I didn't put on any weight, I think they must be secret diet donuts!). Mmmmmm!!! God I need a donut!

notsolilKel · 06/02/2007 16:28

H&A don't you have a Tesco nearby? They usually have a KK counter near the entrance...? surely there is a Tesco in every town, village, and hamlet on the face of Britain??

hollyandalice · 06/02/2007 16:32

They don't have Krispy Kreme counters in them down here! I'm so jealous ! Maybe that's a good thing! Loving the changing bag by the way. I was just looking at a similar one on ebay . I really must get off ebay and start on dinner!!

marylou23 · 06/02/2007 16:57

Ooh, lovely. Although I'd be wary of the 'these are not intended for every day' line... could mean that they're not wipe proof and will fall apart if used more than three times...
Sputnik, I hear you. To echo the Spice Girls, what I really really want is a bag that's big enough to be hospital bag, that then adapts to changing/baby bag (not to carry the baby in, you understand, although having said that it's not a bad idea), and can, when everything is whipped out of it, then be just a very cool spacious handbag. You'd think it would be so simple... Of course, ultimately this is just a wonderful diversionary activity to take me away from my work so I guess if I found one I'd have to think of something else to obsess over

Seansgirl · 06/02/2007 17:00

Lilkel, Think the KK counters maybe just in your neck of the woods we have a huge Tescos here and no KK. Nearest is Selfridges in Birmingham. Tesco (pah!) hate the place! It is soooooo difficult not to shop there!

Daisy, am also bit unsure of the loo roll too. My bump at widest part is (at 19+4 weeks ) 5 sheets on its own! With the rest of me its just under 9 and 3/4 but I am an 18/20 usually so am just a ramper and think everyone else must be nice and slim pre-prgenancy!

Have just fainted when looked at your changing bags Lilkel! Very envious, look lovely and am very !

Seansgirl · 06/02/2007 17:04

Oh yes nearly forgot. In advance of Thursday Lilkel:

Scan tomorrow followed by ladies wot lunch and dinner at DMs so will report back on Thu.

auntymandy · 06/02/2007 17:27

not really kept up with this thread. I am 19+3 and huge! loads of movement. No scan yet.not sure how you want me to measure with loo roll...please explain. might make me feel better if there is someone out there as big as I feel!!

sputnik · 06/02/2007 17:52

Marylou, sounds like you're after a tardis, not a changing bag. You'll need a big one for the hospital bag I'm afraid, as you'll need towels, maternity pads, emergency food and god knows what else, plenty of time to obsess over the contents of our hospital bags further down the road though.

Lilkel, wow, you have the ULTIMATE changing bag, and you still want more . Just goes to show how dangerous this whole thing is once you're on that slippery slope...

notsolilKel · 06/02/2007 19:12

hey now Sputnik, to be fair, I don't think I said I wanted another nappy bag. Granted, there is loads of stuff I lust after. And of course if you all keep suggesting such cute stuff I'm bound to develop a fixation on one sooner or later

Auntymandy welcome back! To measure with loo roll, take a good sized length off the roll, wrap it around the biggest part of your bump in belt-like fashion, and count how many sheets it takes to get round. So scientific, I know...

NattyThomasandBump · 06/02/2007 19:53

hello guys.
been so hectic up here, i got married at the weekend, even with my huge 23 week bump lmao! how is everyone feeling? when i can be bothered to haul my big arse downstairs i will measure my bump with loo roll, and let u kno, but bet im fattest lol. got my VBAC clinic on thursday, really hoping for a normal birth this time. one thing did happen this week, got last set of test results back and have been told i have strep C.. no idea what that means will ask on thurs.

bumperlicious · 06/02/2007 22:31

H&A I love love love that pushchair, oh, so cute! But DH says 'not in a million years' Still, it's a good time for me to get my fab bag request in as a compromise!
