Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 41st grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 41sr grads thread is HERE

The thread we have graduated from is HERE in its 55th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread HERE
for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

HERE is the stats list, please update your own spot with any updates. (Except it's not because I don't know how to link to the stats sheet!)

mermaid at 8-9 weeks you'll see a bean with a heartbeat which can be very reassuring. If you wait until.10-11 weeks you'll see what looks a lot more like a baby... We had a scan at 11 weeks so that we could tell the DCs the week before school and we saw a very large head beautiful baby. Definitely worth it. Less expensive outside London. I think honey said she found somewhere really inexpensive.

pretz thanks that actually makes a lot of sense. I've read crying at yoga means a release but to be honest I was just very uncomfortable with that instructor and felt stupid for being there despite not being able to do the breating properly. Maybe yoga isn't for me.

Mermaid36 · 05/12/2015 08:11

sky thanks, luckily we're quite a way from London....and I know a place in the next town that does private scans (2d, 3D and 4d) so I might give them a call....

oneyorkshirepud · 05/12/2015 08:12

Sky you could try doing some yoga at home? I love 'Yoga with Adrienne' on YouTube and bought her preggo yoga videos.

Corgi, do you reckon you can get a sneaky early scan at work? Or are you keeping schtum there? Bet you are less keen on brandishing the forceps now that you are upduffed yourself?!

SkyWasMadeOfAmethyst · 05/12/2015 08:13

Thanks 5hell the new instructor threw me. She eyed me up in a very smug way when I arrived, like she expected I was going to be a bitch. I am used to that in day to day life, I work in fashion which is very like that, but at yoga it was very off putting.

5hell · 05/12/2015 08:17

sky sounds like a crap instructor more than anything. Any good instructor should be willing and able to adapt things to everyone...we have a below elbow amputee in our class and my instructor helps him find ways to try headstand and all sorts!

I'm now angry about ur instructor Angry ...it's not v yoga to allow someone to feel that uncomfortable! !

jellypi3 · 05/12/2015 08:19

Morning all!!!

lil agree with what others have said. Re antenatal classes, I booked my nct classes about 15/16 weeks because they do fill up fast so if you do NCT consider booking in the next 4 weeks or so. I didn't do hypnobirtbing.

The epi-no should be used from 36/37 weeks, keep an eye on eBay for unused ones you can get for cheaper. Ive not got one, however since indigo used hers they have been flying off the shelf and someone in my nct class has one!

Re vaccines all you need is whooping cough at 28 weeks and flu jab. Plus blood tests at various intervals.

Ive sort of packed my hospital bag but that was because of the move, I didn't want to move without having something ready. However it was a small one and I'm now adding to it so aim to finish it by Christmas.

And we haven't done our nursery yet, that's the task for the next few weeks. Furniture is arriving 16th December!

That was a wall of text, sorry!

mermaid they should offer you a scan well before 14 weeks or they can't do an NT on you.

sky Flowers I've had a few random moments of just sobbing. Hope you feel better soon.

Slept terribly last night so feel super grumpy this morning.

honeysucklejasmine · 05/12/2015 08:28

Mermaid there's a company that has offices in Leamington Spa and Leicester that was only £40 for an early scan. It's called tummy2mummy. I'd be pestering for a dating scan at hospital though.... As Jelly said, they can't do a nuchal test if they scan too late - they'd have to rely on bloods alone and that's less accurate.

Lil totally get it. You need a plan of action in place, even if the first deadline is months away. Helps you feel more in control.

Jelly are you all unpacked? Don't forget our photos! We want house porn!

Ok, so from when is it really important I lie on my left? I am on my right as I type, and baby is kicking away happily. I really hate staying in one position all night.

lildottie · 05/12/2015 08:36

Boo for bad sleep jelly. My normal 9hrs anight has been cut to 7 by these crazy hormones!

pud it makes sense for us to decorate at least upstairs while we have spare room to move furniture into out the way, and we've just had kitchen done so that needs painting before we can get flooring. That only leaves lounge so I figured I'll make dh do the lot!

mermaid I didn't want to go to my 8wkscan but once if had it and all was OK I was glad I had it. I still panicked for the next 4 weeks though. I'm attaching my 8 & 12wk scans so u can see difference. I also found this website useful to see mc risk reducing.

lildottie · 05/12/2015 08:40

Oh and up to 14 wks for scan is fine for nt. I got appt 4 days after booking in for 12+1. And 10/11weeks for booking in is so you are over 10+4 which is earliest they do bloods. I was told they book ppl by date of pg not first come first served too

oneyorkshirepud · 05/12/2015 09:04

Honey I have read different things about lying on your left. Some of the studies are a little small to be conclusive but there does seem to be some correlation between sleeping on your back/right and still birth. There was a study done in New Zealand that came up with the and/or idea. That you go to sleep on your left and/or wake up on your left. I.e. not sleep on your back/right all night. That's what I understand from it anyway. I manage to sleep on my left most of the time but if my hips get sore I will have a break on my right for a bit or prop myself up on pillows and sleep like that. My midwife has never mentioned it though so I don't know how important it actually is!!

jellypi3 · 05/12/2015 09:20

i sleep wherever is comfy, be it on my left, right, back, upright, wherever I can. Left is meant to be most beneficial, but I don't know anyone who could sleep in one position all night long...

TriJo · 05/12/2015 09:22

Mermaid We had an early scan because we were unsure on dates - ended up having to reschedule our 12 week scan because it turned out I was 9 weeks along when we thought closer to 7! No regrets at all, we went to the Fetal Medicine Centre and found them great.

fruitlovingmonkey · 05/12/2015 09:42

Aww Sky Flowers the teacher sounds horrible.
Mermaid I had an early scan at 8+6. The baby looked like a jelly baby at that point, little buds of limbs visible and lots of wriggling. Maybe wait for 9 weeks instead of 8 then you will see more.

Jcandy · 05/12/2015 10:19

I sleep on my right most of the time but that seems to be the only position I can get comfortable in, and with not being able to sleep a lot anyway it seems like the best option. It's probably why baby is lying to the right. Left is easier for birth apparently but I'm choosing sleep!

We've had a couple of rooms decorated lil but not the whole lot. I guess it depends how easy it is to do. It's nice to have things sorted hough so I see where you're coming from. I think the ohers have answered your questions so not sure I have anything more to add Xmas Smile

mermaid I had a scan at 8 weeks because I needed something to keep me going in that early stage. It was so lovely to see the heartbeat!

sky will it be that same instructor each week?

5hell · 05/12/2015 10:38

lil the only other jab you might need would be anti-D if you're rhesus negative?

we have a builder coming round soon to quote for the list of jobs we want to finish pre-baby too lazy to do it ourselves

pretzelpieces · 05/12/2015 11:24

mermaid I had an early scan because of pain I was having in one side (all was fine). It did help my anxiety a lot, I don't think I could have waited until 12 weeks for any news at all.

honey the advice I got was not to lie on my back from about 20 weeks because of the weight of the bump on a big vein that goes up behind the bump. I found that earlier than that I couldn't because it made me feel dizzy and sick so that vein was already getting a bit squashed and my body was letting me know! I sleep on either side and sometimes slightly forward squishing the bump a bit as the weight of it pulls me over.

honeysucklejasmine · 05/12/2015 12:22

Hmm. I am 28 weeks now and perfectly comfortable on any side or on my back. I'm not sure I want to make myself purposefully uncomfortable. Confused

corgi88 · 05/12/2015 12:44

Hello viroids! Yay new Fred!
Name: Corgi
Age: 27
DC: Cooking a 7 week mini chameleon, also corgi and DH
Currently: pissing well on call. Again. Having to see a fair few MCs as well which is making me paranoid! Though labour ward and babies are lovely.
pud I could get one of the registrars to scan me but I'm only 7 weeks so would have to be TV scan which is a bit awkward! Might see who I'm on with next week and ask them! :DD
Thanks for that website lil, makes me feel a bit better!

SecondCupOfTea · 05/12/2015 13:03

Now I realise I may have skim-read the Fred this morning, but did someone actually mention putting Veet near food? Pee? Tell me it was a typo and you meant foof Hmm

Lil we've not gone for NCT as it was £350 for the course including a 6 hour session that I know would have driven me mad. From the info I've gleaned, I won't learn anything on the course that I don't already know, or can find out from the Viroids. And I'm not gonna waste that much money hoping to make friends. I think I'll just go to local stuff once the baby is here (might go to pregnancy yoga after Xmas as well).

We're off to another NCT nearly new sale in a mo. I feel like we know what we're doing in this one (rather than looking like rabbits in headlights as last time Grin) although I am hoping for a similar haul. Then I can work out where we are missing stuff and buy to fill in the gaps.

lildottie · 05/12/2015 13:29

Told monster in law today. Shit is getting real

oneyorkshirepud · 05/12/2015 13:46

Lol yes that might be a tad awkward Corgi! I think a lot of people tend to wait until 8 or 9 weeks anyway so that they can see a heartbeat etc.

Good luck at the NCT sale Tea, elbows out!

corgi88 · 05/12/2015 14:11

Getting slightly worried at how many people know already, but it's so hard when literally the only reason I wouldn't be drinking is pregnancy! So many people have outed me already! Gaaah. Calm calm. Mil knows and so do BIL/SIL. My family knew pretty much from the bfp though.... Clearly just got too excited! Blush.

Peenut · 05/12/2015 15:33

Ha ha! Did I write food Tea? I defo meant foof! Immac on toast ... Mmmmm! Oh god, I just imagined that and it made me feel queasy! (Imagining any sort of strongly flavoured food does!)

Wow! How amazing is the difference between 8 and 12 week scan photos LiL?!

Mermaid I had a scan at hospital at almost 7 weeks after a bit of bleeding –there was a little teeny flickering heartbeat inside a teeny shadowy blob, nothing like that 8 week scan photo!

Lovely to see the heartbeat but I am still paranoid now at almost 9 weeks. (Incidentaly midwife dated me at 6 weeks when I had that scan, which I don't think can be right, but there was still a heartbeat!

One thing though–A heartbeat won't necessarily be seen that early which would have made me freak out if it had happened.

I have attached an artist's impression I did of the bean. (Not to scale!)

Sky - You love! In the nicest possible way, could it not just be your hormones going a bit crazy? I spent twenty minutes properly bawling my eyes out a few weeks ago, because I could find my shoes. I didn't even need to go anywhere. HORMONES. I know it's easier said than done, but try not to feel embarrassed. Maybe skip a week, then just breeze in the next time pretending it NEVER. HAPPENED.

Mermaid - it might be worth kicking up a massive stink for a scan appointment NOW if you don't think you'd get one until 14/15 weeks (As in, kicking up a fuss now, not to have the scan done now). Don't forget the nuchal scan needs to be done before 14 weeks and one day.

I had a scan at 10 weeks due to a heavy bleed, and even at that point it really was just a blob like thing. The heart beat was much more reassuring than the blob. I honestly couldn't tell there was anything there until the nurse said "yes, there's the baby...". I think private scans can be very reassuring (especially when there's a heartbeat), or they can just increase your anxiety because you don't see what you are expecting.

lil -

  • Not much point packing a hospital bag until you are at least at the end of your second trimester. I'm planning on starting mine soon, and I'll be 36ish weeks.
  • As you say, flu jab is recommended. Whooping cough is also recommended between 28-32 weeks (but apparently you can have it up to 38 weeks or something). My husband was told he should also get both these vaccines, so worth checking if this is something the NHS does as well.
  • On classes, it depends on what you think would be beneficial, and what is practically offered in your area. Since this is my first, and I have no interest whatsoever in "natural" birthing, I am MORE interested in the "how the fuck to look after a baby" stuff, and LESS interested in the "how to try and give birth without drugs" stuff. That's the sort of thing that will vary hugely from person to person though, so maybe just spend some time trying to work out your interests for now and seeing what's about.
