Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Galmum · 11/12/2006 20:21

Hi FF,

Scan are not routine at 36 weeks - don't worry. My extra scan is due to the size of my bump, for others it may things spotted at 20 weeks scan such as low lying placentas etc.

LadyTophamHatt · 11/12/2006 20:28

It seems there are a few of us measuring big for dates, doesn't it?
I don't understand why I wasn't offered growth scan today, my next ante natal is in 2 week which will be abit late to start arranging on then.

He's gotta come out one way or another so I don't think there much point in me worrying about it really.

(bloody hell can you believe I just said that???)

welcome to the thread FF.

wilkie50 · 11/12/2006 20:29

Evening all.

Busy day for messages - been trying to keep up (in betweem working - have lost all interest in my job).

FF - welcome, I'm a relative newbie too - this is a great forum, everyone lovely

2happy - had to laugh at your lady garden comment. Had mine waxed on Sat and it bloody hurts more when you are pregnant. Didn't have my usual (Playboy, all off except landing strip) thank god otherwise I think I would have hti the roof. At least everything feels (can't see it) neater!

Lizzz - pleased to hear everything went well with your scan. Can't believe they can tell you the weight. How cool!

Have my one and only Active Birth class (nothing else - no antenatel or anything. Is that normal???) on MOnday which I am looking forward to as am getting v nervous about labour and birth.

Bored silly if anyone wants to chat - DH is watching a stimulating documentary on the building on the Panama Canal - is he 28 or 68????

magnolia1 · 11/12/2006 21:26

No one popped yet????

Hope all you ladies are ready!!!!!

Have popped a piccie of Ben HERE

Hattie2 · 11/12/2006 21:42

Ready??! Anytime now would be fine for me! (well, preferably tomorrow morning now I suppose)

Congrats again magnolia - he really is beautiful (and a great name, still on my shortlist)

UrbanDryadsMum · 11/12/2006 22:05

Hi all, Well just to let you know that Urban's plug indeed came away yesterday but that does no longer count as a sign of labour apparently. Anyway, she 'phoned the midwife this morning, who said to go to the labour ward to be checked out; when she got there, (having made dh come back from work after he had been there only 10 minutes) they said that it could be labour and that it could be an infection and that they wanted to keep her in overnight. When I saw her tonight her main problem was boredom!!. She is in a nice ward with only four beds, very quiet compared to the ward her Dad was on. She had a couple of sharp pains while I was there, but no doubt they will keep an eye on her and maybe let her go home tomorrow morning. She did say though that if it was an infection she would need antibiotics in a drip. Hope you all have a good night.

magnolia1 · 11/12/2006 22:10

Awwww poor UD, Give her our love xxxxxxx

OonaghBhuna · 11/12/2006 22:17

Poor UD, hope shes ok, let her know we are thinking of her xxx

LadyTophamHatt · 12/12/2006 09:45

Oh...no poor UD.

thanks for posting to let us know Mum

(I'd love it if my mum posted on here)

Lizzz · 12/12/2006 10:12

Fingers crossed for UD, hope all is ok.
Ben is so cute Magnolia. Can't wait to see my little one.

In my (one & only - wilkie 50 you're not the only one!) antenatal class last night, I dscovered that most of the women there were anti epidurals. I was really surprised about this, as I thought most people would be up for them.

The midwife was talking about TENS machines, and how you can rent them from Boots. Has anyone used a TENS machine before? Do they work? The midwife reckond they did the job no problem. I hadn't thought about this method before.

2nd day of maternity leave! woo hoo! Am going to mong round in my pjamas all day! may change my name to scummy mummy to be!

2HappyTurtleDoves · 12/12/2006 11:00

Lizzz, I used a TENS in the early stages of labour with ds. At one point I said to dh "I don't think this is working, can you just switch it off......AAAAAGGHHHH IT WAS WORKING IT WAS WORKING SWTICH IT BACK ON!!!"
UD's Mum - how lovely of you to post and keep us up to date, thanks. Hope she gets home soon and that everything is ok x
Wilkie - think I'll stick with my escapees!

Scary experience this morning. Figured we've done nothing to prepare for this baby, and while we could cobble most stuff from ds together to last if the baby came early, one thing we would really need would be newborn nappies, which meant I found myself in Boots this morning buying newborn nappies. That's nappies. For a newborn baby. New baby....

oh

my

GOD

I'm having a flipping baby!!!!!

(why doesn't MN have a panic emoticon???)

LadyTophamHatt · 12/12/2006 11:12

I used a TENs with ds2+3 and thought it was marvelous!!

must remeber to sort out another one soon....

Lizzz · 12/12/2006 11:48

2 happy - I know what you are going through! Its only now my baby is starting to kick more vehmently than an angry Jackie Chan (can they actually ever kick through the belly?!) its much more real. Plus the whole 'less than a month to go' thing is freaking me out slightly.
Did either you or LTH use the Femme Tens machine? Its the one which mothercare and boots sell. (cant find anything about Boots renting them, think this must be an urban myth!)

LadyTophamHatt · 12/12/2006 11:54

I rented mine both times from Boots.

It was about £40 to hire, you get it 2 weeks (or was it one...can't remeber!!) before your due date and keep it until you have the baby basically.
I think the hire period is 3 weeks but if you go over that they just extend the time free of charge.

LadyTophamHatt · 12/12/2006 12:07

Lizzz.....what are you talking about woman....look...boots tens machine hire

I think you're turning into me because I'm always the one who can't find info on here

Lizzz · 12/12/2006 13:04

doh - what is happening to my brain?

I searched for that for ages. Thank you LTH!

um..what about the mama sure thing? no one told me that you can still be incontinent, pelvic floor excersizes or not.

I'm having enough problems as it is - I darent sneeze or laugh without my legs crossed!

OonaghBhuna · 12/12/2006 13:05

Lizz I havent used a tens machine but with DD I ahd an induction, gas and air, an epidural and then an emergency c/s. I was tired but on such a high after seeing a beautiful healthy baby that was delivered safely.Dont be put off by an epidural some people believe that they have back pain due to the epidural which any mw or physio would discard. Its usually because of pregnancy and also carrying and lifting babies, toddlers and children afterwards!! Personally I loved the gas and air and my DH reminded me of all the silly things I said.....

elliepmummy · 12/12/2006 13:16

Hope UD's okay, glad my mum or MIL don't look on here I'd have some serious explaining to do!!!

Got midwife this afternoon more blood tests and possibly an internal due to the on/off contractions been having since thursday, nice as DD got to come with me sure she'll be there trying to see whats going on

Magnolia Ben is gorgeous congrats again

Tillypup · 12/12/2006 13:35

I have a breastfeeding workshop this afternoon, what fun! Then tomorrow is my 36 week midwives appointment, getting scarily close now particularly as the baby seems to be kicking/wriggling around more and more as well as getting a lot of braxton hicks.

This part of maternity leave is just great though!

coffeebaubles · 12/12/2006 14:06

Congrats Magnolia, he is a lovely little boy xxx (cant wait to get mine now but I know I'll end up being the last one !)

Best wishes UD.

Did they mention what to do about itchy nips in your breastfeeding session Tilly ? Mine are driving me mad.

Had a look around maternity unit, spookily quiet, and made me feel a bit nervous too. They dont offer epidurals which tbh is not something I would go for but maybe thats why it was so quiet. They reckon on average one baby a day is born in there, I dont have to take anything for baby until we go home and I can stay as long as I like. Hhhmmm .... decisions ... decisions ....

Might invest in renting a TENS this time as some of you think its worth it. Had pethidine first time round which was FAB, but too far gone second time so tried G&A which was horrid and ended up using nothing. Not too sure about renting incontinence thing though aren't they used internally?, not sure I like the thought of that having being used before ?

DD back in school today, caught up on sleep last night, no emergency phone call, so all must be well. Thanks for everyones concern.

Lizzz · 12/12/2006 15:32

coffeebaubles - where are you having your baby?
I'm having mine at Brighton, where they have on average 14 babies a day! That is some difference to just one!

cant get into this sitting around lark for maternity leave. have done a ridiculous amount of things yesterday and today, and am totally knackered now, but if I lie down I'll only get heart burn so its not worth it!

2HappyTurtleDoves · 12/12/2006 15:39

Hmmmm. Just back from seeing mw. Told her that consultant said baby's head was measuring 3 weeks bigger than dates on the scan a fortnight ago, and she said "well, didn't he offer you a growth scan then?". Umm, no. Should I be panicking then??? "oh, er, the portable scanner really isn't that accurate," the mw said, backtracking wildly... Grrrrreat. I am having a heifer, shall have shoulder dystocia, and will be incontinent for the rest of my life!!!
Lizzz - I borrowed dsis's machine, will ask her what make it is (and must remember to pick it up from her when I see her this week. Just in case...!)

elliepmummy · 12/12/2006 16:55

Back from m/w baby head is 3/5ths engaged and taken a swab to check whether it was waters/plug that have gone couldnt do internal as DD was throwing a massive paddy in there! Only measuring 1 week bigger than date although m/w asked what dd weighed I said 7lb10oz and she said this one will be bigger (how does she know every person I know who has had their weight guessed by feeling has been wrong!) Got to phone hospital if I get the regular contractions again if if they go after a bit as she hasnt got any appts free till 3rd jan and I am at hospital that day for my pre op check before section on the 5th so glad to see they are keeping an eye on me My family are taking bets on an xmas day baby now shame I cant use the name Holly as its our neices name!!!!!

wilkie50 · 12/12/2006 19:17

Lizzz: I have rented a TENS machine through this site www.tens-hire.co.uk/index_files/tensforchildbirth.htm only £23.95 which I though was very good. They send it to me at 37 weeks. My best friend swore by it during early labour but said to make sure that the one I hired had a 'boost' button as this was a great help during each contraction!

elliepmummy · 12/12/2006 19:30

Forgot to add I have made the decision today and got m/w to write in notes that if I go into labour before 5th jan that I am going to attempt a VBAC something I was so against at the beginning but think I'll have a go. She asked if I wanted to cancel my section and try a VBAC anyway and I said noooo I need to know theres a definate end date to this
