oh and my vote is for the do drugs title too!

Packed my hospital bag on boxing day as we were going to sheffield to visit family so had to take it plus car seat just in case. DH was praying i would go into labour so LO would be born in England rather than Scotland!!

2happy and wilkie,

I have also had something really similar, must be a 21st jan thing !! 3 nights in a row I woke up with cramps across the top of my bump and ran to the loo thinking I was either going to hurl or poo!!

I felt really odd going on mat leave too, I felt a bit sad i wasn't going to be in work for ages, but it soon passed, LOL!

Where can you buy raspberry leaf tea?

Hi everyone, managed to pack hopital bags yesterday as had a mini-drama. Thought waters had broken, so went in to hospital to lie on a bed for an hour to see if they had. Then the midwife got out her massive torch out to examine me!! It was more suited for a visit to Wookey Hole...! Anyway, waters still in tact, but bags are all packed by the door.

Based on yesterday's experience, voting for the do drugs & bare fanjo thread name!

Lizzz, I've packed an old beach towel type thing, read somewhere to take a patterned towel so you can easily find yours. Have also packed travel hairdryer. The midwife told me to take more than you need for a weekend, but less than for a two week holiday. The biggest bag is my husbands - it's got all the maternity pads in, bless him, plus lots of high energy snacks!

Does eating pineapple help to bring on labour, or is that rubbish?

itsazoo - apparently cranberries can cause a miscarriage if eaten too early on in the pregnancy, and if scoffed/drunk later on then they can help induce the baby...apparently. Maybe a sea breeze or two is in order if we go over due?!

daisypops - I have had protein in my wee for my last two mw check ups, apparently its common to get all sorts of traces of things in your wee this late on.

laughalot - sorry to hear about your dreadful xmas. At least new year cant be as bad as compared to that.

I am 39 weeks tomorrow!!! My hospital bag now resembles a huge suitcase and I keep thinking of more things to put in it. Should we take hairdryers in? And what about towels? Do hospital provide towels for after showers etc? I have no idea!

  • anyone know the answer?

Hi ladies hope you are all well and had a very merry xmas.

Congrats to all the mummies who have popped I am so .

My vote is for the drugs one.

Well I had a nightmare xmas im afraid it all started on christmas eve went to my freezer in the gararge to get turkey out and the bloody freezer had defrosted I ended up sat on the garage floor crying. Christmas day started badly mum and dad where over for there first xmas at our house every other year we had been to them so me and dh said we would do it this year however my mum and dad offered to cook dinner as I am heavily pg that was fine except they both woke up ill and couldnt face getting out of bed so it left me and dh to cook for everyone which I dont mind but then my flippin steamer broke midway through cooking so hard veg for crimbo lunch yummy. Boxing day not bad mum and dad still ill got to about 7 in the evening mega back ache for me thought yep im in labour had hot bath went to bed about 10 woke up at 7 feeling crap I actually cried I felt so ill my chest was killing me I had a headache I ached all over it was bad I had got my mum and dads bug. Went to docs on thursday and I have got a ear nose throat and chest infection luckily because im nearing the end of pg I can have antibiotics but its knocked me for six iv never felt this bad in ages today is the first day iv been out of bed the only thing is now my little boy has got it and I feel awful he is so poorly bless him. Im hoping I go into labour soon due 10th jan my ds was 10 days late my dh starts a new job on the 22 jan and cant have time off after that so I need this baby. Hapy new year if I dont get chance to catch up

Hi ladies, haven't been on for a while as been busy going to family parties. Is anyone else finding it hard to walk? I can't put weight on my right leg. Had 38 wk check up on thursday, bubs head is engaged -yipppeee and I am getting loads of tightenings MW said 'sooner rather than later' BRING IT ON! Just want it over with now. I have a trace of protein in my wee, bp is higher than usual for me and my ankles are swollen. Apart from this all is well! I too am now on maternity leave, had fish and chips for my leaving lunch, then I got £80 cash, a big card and a few prezzys from individual people which was nice. Am crapping myself about labour and the birth, still all seems a bit surreal. I asked MW if they give you anything to empty your bowels before labour and she said only if your really constipated and 'everyone poos' . FFS, as if it aint bad enough having a variety of people poking your fairy!
Hope everyone else is well.
I like the 'new year new baby' title. Awww!

Contractions stopped. Bugger.
Cranberries Lizzz? Hadn't heard of that. And isn't the agony of childbirth enough without the clamps? Mind you, if you're desperate enough. At least they are easily purchased in bton-can't see me finding some in lewes.
Harry2007, did you slap him? Should be pleased am still finding my dp more comical than violence inducing...so far. Apparantly he was asking round the pub for a maglite to aid his cevical exploration! Thankfully he passed out on arrival home.

My plan for if I go over my DD is NIPPLE CLAMPS. Forget simple twiddling. Then I intend to go for a vindaloo curry & eat a punnet of cranberries, then to finish it all off I reckon no baby could resist showing its head if you went on a rollercoaster ride - so its off to Brighton Pier to bring it on!
what do you think?

IKWYM itsazoo - every time my dp goes out, I ask him not to drink too much as I am 36 weeks and am suffering with severe SPD and have to go into hospital when the pain gets unbearablefor a pethidine top-up.

Every single time I've had to go into hospital, dp has comveniently had too much to drink and I then refuse to have him at my bedside stinking of alcohol! Last Friday, he even had the nerve to tell me to stop feeling sorry for myself when the pain got extreme - now that's sympathy for you!

Report
itsazoohere · 30/12/2006 00:18

Not really been on here much, just wanted to laugh at dp in public. Rang him to ask him not to drink
too much (he's out with friends) as was having vague contractions. 'oh, sweetie!' he replied drunkenly-'are they b h?'. So I (maybe a bit harshly snapped) 'how the bl@@dy hell do I know until either they stop or I have the baby?'. He then asked if I was dillating. Like I'd know! And then he offered to look for me when he came home! (when asked exactly WHAT he'd be looking for, he mumbled something about looking it up on the internet..)

I like the 'lose a stone on 1 day' thread 2happy... if only there was some way of losing about 3 stone in one day... Also thanks for the links on posterior positions. I have managed to calm down a bit about the whole positioning thing now. I think, as has already been mentioned (many times so far on this thread), that m/ws just seem to like to panic us with these little bits of information, which they don't really explain but just casually drop into conversation and then go 'oh it's nothing to worry about'!!!! It was good to hear from you Dragonhart that you managed a natural birth with your DS

44 weeks Lizz!?!? Have just been looking up stretch & sweeps in pregnancy books and am thinking I will probably say yes to one asap after DD passes...although there do seem to be conflicting reports about how effective and how painful they are. Do y'all have plans for what you'll do if you do go overdue??

Shimmer - the box of rasp tea ive got says max 3 cups a day from 36 wks. i erred on side of caution and only just started drinking it, one cup a day. i had midwife appt this week (38 wk check) and still head not engaged, but baby sideways but midwife seems to not be at all bothered (I can't imagine her ever seeming bothered about anything) and just told me to lean forward more, that the babys about 7 lb and that I wont be going into labour for a while yet! encouraging stuff!

Hello, Thank you for all of the lovely messages. i came home from the hospital today thank goodness as I hate being in hospital!!! Lucy is amazing she is still very sleepy probably due to all of the drugs!!!!! However she becomes quite lively after midnight! C/S went well it makes a difference having a planned one the recovery is much quicker although you always forget about the pain.......Big pants are essential and lovely smellies for the bath afterwards.
If I dont get a chance to log on good luck to everyone and I hope everything goes well.
Oh yes dont forget to pack the lansinoh cream for those planning to BF I have chapped nipples already...... Its all worth it when you see that beautiful baby coming out

Welcome to the wonderful world of maternity leave wilkie!
I'm in my 3rd week off now, and have achieved absolutely no where near what I wanted to accomplish since I have been off work. Too busy sleeping/puking/watching daytime tv!

Amyclaire - think you need to be careful with expressing at this stage as it can generate the release of Oxytocin and send you into prem labour (see, I knew there was SOME point in that active birth class) - great tip for when you are overdue and desperate to get little one out! MW said no type of nipple stimulation before 38 weeks.

2Happy - I vote for the drugs title too although LTH, yours did make me laugh!!

Thought I should also mention........I FINISHED WORK TODAY Did anyone else feel weird when they started mat leave - doesn't feel real that I won't be working for the best part of 8 months And I won't be going back to that shitty arse place either (not that they know that) - do you know they got me Sweet FA!!!! Nice to know I'm valued

Sorry to hear about the bad appts with doc/midwifes. Had the midwife come to the house today as there were no appt at my doc til next tue. Was quite nice not to have to trapse to the docs or beg for a lift.

Everything was fine and she said that the baby was posterior too. DS was last time and had him naturally, relatively easy labour except for the end where I had a bad tear. Only had gas and air though (sorry, forgot who was asking)

Guess it doesnt matter this time though. Asked afew questions about the section but didnt find anything new out. Keep asking the same ones as I am really getting nervous now.

Thanks for the bra tips Lizz, they are still pretty new looking (eventhough I had them for about 8 months! - white ones from Marks and very comfy too!). Tried them on and I could just about get them on at the loosest setting and the cups seemed fine with breast pads, could still get my hand in so think I will stick with them for now.

Hattie - I only read that on one site - maybe have a look into it. Sorry about disappointing MW visit - they do like to keep us busy worrying!!

I do remember my brother telling the story with great humour, how he thought the baby was coming out but NO - it was a poo - my SIL's face at him telling this to all was a picture - not impressed!!! I imagine he got a major bollocking later on!

I was worried about sh*tting myself, but to be honest by the time it came to pushing him out with no epidural or pethidine - I could have crapped infront of the Queen and I would not have cared! Sorry if TMI!

My vote - is there a baby in there or am I giving birth to a heffalump??

Hi girls!(had no internet at home for a while and teenage niece and nephew allow me little time on their's!) It has been a mega long time since I posted on here and feel that I have no chance of catching up on all the gossip!! Congrats to those who have already popped, so to speak. Am ready to burst myself here. My feet are soo swollen that they feel like the skin is going to split everytime I take a step! and I feel like I have had a radiator installed in my chest it's burning so hot!! But apart from that i AM READY TO GO!!!!! Got some great bargins online sale shopping with Next and Blooming marvelous so have had a 'happy' boost due to the retail therapy and the very fast delivery (within 48 hours!!!!) AND it all fits! The nighty I got from blooming made us laugh, it's a breast feeding one and when you lift the flap it has little 'peep'hole's!! Could be, but isn't very sexy!Having very extreme birthing dreams at present, and have got a huge jealousy streak in me at the mo as my best mate just gave birth literally within 3.5 hrs with just gas and air! Her waters broke at 5am and she was hugging her little baby Sophie at by 7.30am! plus back at home in time for Eastenders!!! Well I have gone on enough already....dh and I seem to be going strong at the mo, although do not want to tempt fate..so touching wood! Good luck all! Chat soon.x.
Jess 38 weeks today!

Deeply miserable and looking pathetically for sympathy ... days of repeat visits to the hospital after chronic itching and pain have led to diagnosis of PUPP. Have a bagful of lotions, hoping they mean I get some sleep soon - and I do mean ANY sleep at all. Anyone else suffering with this?

Great thread titles (again!) 2happy - another vote here for the 'drugs' one, or for LTH's short and to the point one!

Galmum - thanks for the raspberry links. It's interesting the bit about not to drink it if you have frequent BH's as I have loads. Have only been having one or two cups a day but maybe should stop those?

Not a v succesful GP appt this morning, BP too high, sugar in urine and baby not engaged. Now have to go back on Tuesday for BP and urine check again.

amyclaire - no idea if you can express at this stage or not I'm afraid.
