Glad you're ok mamama. Aaaw lovely scan pic toffee

Great news Belmo

I've finally told my manager and my team at work so it's a relief to have everything out in the open now. No-one had guessed or noticed that my stomach is bigger, so perhaps it's not that noticeable after all!

My nausea has returned over the past few days, although I think part of it was due to the anxiety of telling work. I was dry heaving all the way in this morning!

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 03/11/2015 11:09

Oh bless you frozen - but so nice for it to be common knowledge now. Some but not all of my department currently know and I'm planning to announce it as 'Any Other Business' in our next departmental meeting next week. Looking forward to being able to talk openly about it!

dervinia - DH and I discussed the combined test and decided we could do this test but probably wouldn't do anything with the results. If we were found to be high risk, we wouldn't take the testing any further and wouldn't terminate on that basis. We did the test just to prepare ourselves if that makes sense?

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 03/11/2015 12:49

odog nice odds! Ours (both harmony test and NHS combined) were about 13000 so felt very reassured by that. And dervinia it's such a personal thing, it's nice to hear you exercised your freedom to choose!
frozen I "came out" at work 10 days ago and felt so much better since then - I have definitely popped out too, there'd be no hiding it now!
I have a question for everyone though:
Flu jab - any thoughts?
I'm not totally against vaccinations I just try to avoid unnecessary medicines, and as a fit and healthy person with a low risk pregnancy I don't know if I need this, but I know it's recommended. Anyone else given it any thought?

ODog · 03/11/2015 13:30

I had the flu jab last week. I just think that even though the risk is low that I would get it to any detrimental level. The thought of even having a cold, let alone full blown flu, when pregnant with a toddler and not being able to take anything for it fills me with fear.

dervinia - I'm not sure what we would have done if it came back high risk but I like to be prepared either way.

frozensmoothie · 03/11/2015 13:31

can't I decided to have the flu jab when I was 11 weeks. I'm normally fit/healthy and low risk too but I've had flu twice in my life and both times felt like I was dying! One time was swine flu during the outbreak a few years ago. I can't imagine feeling that unwell and having to deal with pregnancy at the same time, and there's also the risk to the baby with getting flu. I felt unwell for about a day, two days after the jab. My arm was sore for a bit but other than that it was all fine.

Southy84 · 03/11/2015 13:37

Welcome dervinia :)

And glad you're ok mama nice to have you back.

Glad your nausea has eased 29 but not good about the ten minute warning voms :( I don't know how I'd cope with that!

belmo welcome back and it's so good to hear your baby is doing well, you had such a fright and it's so nice to hear everything's ok x

Lovely scan pic toffee :) it's lovely seeing the pics.

frozen I'm so glad telling your work went well, I still have that to come... I thought my nausea had eased off but it seems to be returning too :( on a more positive note I only woke up once to pee last night which is a serious acheivement and the first time that's happened in at least two months! Hopefully it means everything is ok and just moving up away from my bladder.

cantbelieve ive read a few discussions on flu jabs in pregnancy, and it as it isn't a live virus is safe. A lot of it isn't about you being healthy/and or low risk I think it's more about if you did get flu how it would affect you and baby and how limited you'd be with taking meds. I had mine a few weeks ago with work, and normally wouldn't bother but thought best to be safe and not risk it for the baby. It's totally up to you though, but I personally think good to do preventative things if offered.

GrouchyKiwi · 03/11/2015 13:52

Re flu jab: I'm getting mine on Saturday. My immune system is rubbish at the moment so needs all the help it can get. I had it in both of my previous pregnancies and was so glad I did. There's enough going on without getting the flu too.

VickyHW · 03/11/2015 14:01

Southy will be thinking of your and your scan on Thursday! :)

Glad scans have gone well, Toffee I love your pic!

Belmo I 100% get you on the bleeding/not feeling positive thing, yay for baby being well after that! When I had early scans because of bleeding I burst into tears when they found her well, they had to stop for a minute!

Can'tbelieve I read that flu is dangerous when pregnant because it increases the risk of a low birth weight or even miscarriage/stillbirth as you're much more susceptible to things like pneumonia/bronchitis. Having it also protects the baby for a few months once it's born. I asked my husband if he'd go to Boots & get it done as well haha, that might be a bit OTT but I don't want to get sick!

Pikz · 03/11/2015 15:28

I had my flu jab as I just couldn't bear the thought of flu and pregnancy it's bad enough will all the bugs my toddler brings home!

I like toffee had all the combined screening not that we would have done anything but just so we were prepared. We could still be the 1 but my bigger concern was actually the life ending trisomonies as these cause stillbirths etc and that was what I really wanted to be prepared for.

Trying to catch up and join in more when I get a second :)

Glad all the yelling at work is going well. At nearly 15 weeks I have definitely popped so people that don't know are really looking at me funny!!

notsoold · 03/11/2015 16:03

Hello lovelies.... as always I am so behind!!! My scan will be next week!
I jjust wanted to say hi. And it is lovely to hear from you all.
Take care lovelies.....

Mamama31 · 03/11/2015 16:18

Belmo great news and lovely to have you back!

Loving the odds of the tests ladies must be very reassuring!

I've had my flu jab as I know flu can lead to other more serious illnesses and these could impact the well being of the baby. It was quick and easy, glad I did it. I have had flu 3 times in my life all of which were horrific and one suspected swine flu so would not risk it but def a personal decision.

I'm so tired the last hour of work makes me want to snooze I'm so lazy and do no worn from 4pm each day zzzz....

ljjeffro · 03/11/2015 16:27

I had an appointment last Monday for my flu jab. I was 9+6 and asked if it was ok to have it then and she said to come back at 12wks, so I've booked another appointment. I didn't realise you had to be 12wks, the mw didn't tell me that she just said to book it!

frozensmoothie · 03/11/2015 16:32

That's strange ljeffro. I had my flu jab before 12 weeks and the NHS website says it's safe at any stage of pregnancy, from the first few weeks up to your due date.

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 03/11/2015 16:47

Thanks everyone on the flu jab answers! I never had one before and don't consider myself vulnerable but I guess it's all different now and I need to put a very small person's wellbeing first! Smile

ljjeffro · 03/11/2015 18:16

That's what I thought frozen. I reckon she got it wrong.

Mamama31 · 03/11/2015 18:21

I got my flu jab at 10 weeks and was told that it's safe anytime during pregnancy.

29redshoes · 03/11/2015 18:21

pikz I can't remember, is it your first? I'm not even close to showing yet and am only two weeks behind you - can't wait to get a bump!

Day three has come and gone with no phone call from the hospital, so fingers crossed my twelve week bloods were OK and there is nothing to indicate I'm high risk.

StormTr00per · 03/11/2015 19:34

Thanks for reminding me. . Must book flu jab! I do get it every year anyway due to asthma. Currently still on maternity leave, but have a work kit day tomorrow. . Guess I'll have to break it to them that I'm not going to be back for long Grin really nervous about it though!

99percentchocolate · 03/11/2015 20:51

Hello, another one popping back in (and out too - I'm getting questions!)
Feeling much better on the ondansetron and my GP surgery has finally agreed to prescribe it now that the hospital has first. Still vomiting every few days and nauseous all day with very bad nausea in the eves, but a huge improvement on a few weeks ago!

Glad to hear about all of the great scans, and thank you for adding me to the fb group.

Fluffy, I'm sorry you didn't have support, I can't imagine how you must be feeling. I'm thinking of you xxx

Pikz · 04/11/2015 08:23

29red no it's my 2nd which I think is why. With my first I didn't show until past 16 weeks as I didn't tell work until then!

dervinia · 04/11/2015 08:57

Morning everyone, thanks for kinds words and opinions...I don't mind a bit of blissful ignorance for now..I didn't realise you could have the flu jab early...i'm staying at my mums this week, because my DH has a nasty cold and I'm really not in the mood to catch it....its nice though, I'm being very pampered here Smile

redshoes I can't wait to get a bump too!

hotchocmarshmallow · 04/11/2015 09:46

Morning all. I had a nice day off yesterday as DH had annual leave so took DD out for the whole day- it was so good to lie down for hours! Back to work today though.
Interesting info about the flu jab. The GP caught me off guard last week when I told them I was pregnant and offered it to me there and then but I said I wanted to think about it. I've now got a nasty cough and cold so I'll definitely be booking in the jab.
toffee that's a lovely scan pic! I've still got another 2 weeks to wait.
Belmo I'm glad you've had some reassurance - sounds like you've had a scary time.
DH told the ILs yesterday and my parents know. I also told my boss at work but noone else. Both my mum and MIL said they thought I was pregnant as my face looks fuller! ShockBlush

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 04/11/2015 10:10

Ugh ugh ugh... today I do not feel good. All I want to do is go home to bed but I'm at work with a mammoth day ahead. And then I'm at a conference for two days tomorrow and I really don't want to be away from home.

Boo hoo hoo.

Feeling very sorry for myself today.

VickyHW · 04/11/2015 10:21

Is anyone else having really horrible headaches? Paracetamol just doesn't touch them and I feel like I can't concentrate on anything, they're so painful!

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 04/11/2015 10:30

Oh no Vicky - I had a few horrible headaches last week (and a migraine for two days!) but I have noticed an increase in headaches in general. They've not been too bad though and I have managed to get on with things (expect for when I had migraine obviously!).

Anyone else feel like their body is starting to fall apart?
