We're not buying any of the big stuff until after my scan next week. But for anyone that's interested, kiddicare have an offer on at the moment:

Maxi Cosi pebble (suitable from birth - approx 9 months)
Maxi cosi - pearl (suitable from 9 months - approx 4 years)
And a family fix iso fix base (which fits both of the above)
All for £345.

Buying them all separately costs £500 and maxi cosi pebble is compatible with most travel systems and pushchairs. Definitely going to get that once we know everything is ok. Some of the colours for the above aren't great but they do black, so thats what we'll go for!

loveulotslikejellytots · 07/08/2015 15:19

Juniper - that sounds a bit painful! Still, free chest wax! Maybe I could attach them to my belly fluff!

18+6 (keep forgetting to put this!)

MissSMartin · 07/08/2015 15:33

oh quick question.. my sil decided to tell me that my niece had hand, foot &mouth Disease a few weeks ago after I had had my neice for at least 1hr sat on my lap yesterdayConfused .. im really worried there could now be implications now.. im gna post this on the normal pg board but I know you ladies are very knowledgeable so thought I'd ask here first as I'm worried Smile

tinyme135 · 07/08/2015 15:37

I'm glad it went well crumble I can't wait for my 20 week scan (I'll be 19 weeks) then get to see if I'm team blue or pink. Only 12 days to find out :D

SleepyDragon · 07/08/2015 16:17

MissS how long has she had it, I don't think it's contagious after a week. Also it can only be transferred by 'fluid' so sneeze, cough, saliva spittle etc.

You must be worried though!

SleepyDragon · 07/08/2015 16:18

Sorry - just read she had it a few weeks ago...

MiniTickle · 07/08/2015 16:21

Jelly tots - I bought that deal from mothercare last weekend! Now have three big boxes sat in my living room. I wasn't going to get anything before my next scan but felt offer was to good.
19+4

loveulotslikejellytots · 07/08/2015 16:25

I'm tempted minitickle, even though we've said the same. It's a good deal for 2 car seats and a base. Every penny counts! I'm still amazed at how much nursery furniture is. I think (apart from cot bed) we're going to buy regular wardrobe and chest of drawers, although the matching mini sets are cute, they seem a little pointless as they wont last as long.

lilyb84 · 07/08/2015 16:29

MissSMartin I was around a little one who recently had HFM and didn't even think about the risks of exposure! Found this on the NHS website though - looks like even if (which is unlikely) you had contracted it the risks are pretty low, especially now you're in the 2nd trimester:

www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1111.aspx?CategoryID=54

Glad to hear it went well crumble, and what a pain, juniper... hope it's a quick 24 hours Confused

We've not even started thinking about thinking about buying things! Tempted to book one of the Mamas and Papas personal shopper sessions to get a first few ideas, but whatever we do I'm planning on finding things we like then buying them second hand or trying my luck at Freecycle and similar.

frozenfairy123 · 07/08/2015 16:44

Be careful ladies about buying things like car seats for toddlers already. Rules change quite quickly and I know there is a lot of talk about being rear facing for at least 2 years which could mean u can't use that seat? Also worth checking if u have bought one, as to the expiration date on the bottom as all plastic wears out. I have to say I have the maxi Cosi axiss and it is brilliant for your back as it swivels and is so much easier if u have a sleepy child.

MissSMartin · 07/08/2015 16:51

ahhh thanks lily you've put my mind at rest! Grin fewww!!

I'm getting a very bad back recently which causes me to 'freeze' it's annoying me.

(16+0 ) < keep forgetting to do this

fourlegstwolegs · 07/08/2015 16:59

Frozen you are right re car seats. It's as controversial as BF/FF but again the science doesn't lie - rear facing is much safer. So for anyone buying an infant seat its a moot point as they do rear face, but the next one up from that should also be rear facing. And yes the rules will be changing!

Lookingforadvice123 · 07/08/2015 18:34

Eek we ordered our car seat on the weekend, a cybex one with a isofix base. Are all the infant ones definitely rear facing? I'm clueless about this kind of thing!

Glad to hear scan went well crumble. Your baby will be born on my due date then (2 Jan) Smile

hotcrossbun83 · 07/08/2015 18:56

Assuming the Pearl seat in the deal is the 2way Pearl (I think it will be as it fits on that base) then that seat is a new extended rear facing I size compatible one so should be good for a few years, you can in theory keep them rear facing in it until they grow out of it or turn it ff once they're bigger. We have it for ds as he outgrew his baby seat at 10 months and I was not ready to turn him ff even though at the time I could legally have done. It's a great seat.

hotcrossbun83 · 07/08/2015 18:58

looking all baby seats ie group 0 are rear facing so if that's what you've ordered it will be. Toddler/group 1 seats vary. The new regulation is rear facing to 15 months but it's not enforced yet if for instance you already owned a ff seat from last child

tinyme135 · 07/08/2015 19:04

I keep getting mild cramping. Nothing painful just a light cramp could this be bh? Sorry if it's a silly question, being a new mummy I'm worrying about everything. Plus any advice on helping back pain?

Nightfall1983 · 07/08/2015 19:04

My DS is 3 next month is still RF in an ERF seat. I highly recommend getting keeping them rear facing for as long as possibly - I expect DS to fit in his ERF seat till he is 5, possibly 6. It is so so much safer.

There are several excellent ERF seats around that are suitable from birth to 4 years - you don't have to get an infant carrier if you don't want to. We never had one and never missed it...

mrschatty · 07/08/2015 19:12

Hello everyone just popping in to say happy weekend :) I'm working tomorrow then a bbq. So tired though!
crumble great news on scan! Mine is ages off yet! I'm 16+5 have to wait till 1st Sept! Still team yellow...

MissSMartin · 07/08/2015 19:55

I have the worst period type cramping it's just made me cry! I'm now lying on the couch watching corrie while dp makes my tea.. it's very disconcerting Sad
oh it's nearly new thread time ..we do talk a lot! ! hehe Grin

BeeMyBaby · 07/08/2015 20:08

Re car seats, I looked up the new law and it said it was being gradually phased in and should become law in 2017 so wouldn't affect any of us, however as others have said erf car seats are safer so if you haven't yet got a car seat at all then you may want to look into getting an erf seat rather than a class 0.
