Mammyjo & Cornflakekid, My ds is 3, we have a book called 'There's a house inside my mummy' We've used it quite a bit and like it. I'm sure this was the one others recommended a while ago.

GGF hope the midwife went ok this evening.

Doobydoo sounds like a great deal on the Graco stuff. Well done you.

Nuttygirl good luck for your scan tomorrow.

Sorry if i've missed anyone out.

1becomes3 · 15/11/2006 21:36

Look out I am gonna have a moan!
DH came in from work today and spent some time watching t.v while I got dinner ready, with DD round my feet trying to climb in cupboards and just being her ever so helpful self.
Then after dinner DH crashed out, and left me to run DD bath and get her ready for bed and read her her story, which I don't mind doing, even though it goes alot easier when I have some help.

What I mind is the fact that when I came back down stairs and settled myself down on the couch for the evening with my mug of hot chocolate, DH decided to tell me that he has a load of paper work that he has forgotten to give me for the past week or so that desperatly needs to be done for the morning!

WHY he has only given it to me now I don't know, seems I ask him every day when he comes in from work if there is anything he needs me to do!
Bloody DH is f-king useless!
There goes my early night!
ok i think that will do thought I would vent on here before my hormones take over and I end up killing him!

AngeG · 15/11/2006 21:41

GGF x posts glad all was ok with the mw.

The babette cole book is very funny. Shows pictures of 'the ways mummy's and daddy's fit together' and gives more detail about how baby's are made. eg has pictures of mummy's and daddy's and talks about eggs & seeds and says that the seeds from daddy's tube goes into mummy's tummy through a little hole with pictures to show how it happens! It's a good book but I haven't shown it to ds yet. More a book dh and I laugh about together.

Maybe I'll show him at somepoint.

Sexonlegs · 15/11/2006 21:44

Blimey, I log off for a day and it takes an age to catch up again!
Happy Belated Birthday Pesha - hope you had a lovely day.
Sorry to all those feeling rubbish with colds and stuff. This weather isn't helping is it - it was freezing the other week, and now it has been 14/15 degrees.
Congrats to all those who have had scans too - such a reief to see all is well.
GGF, how did your appt with the midwife go? I really hope all is well.
I have had a lovely day with dd today - she has been great company bless her.
Feeling ok at the mo - fairly calm and nowhere near as snappy as last week! Still knackered though, and my skin is still pants. Did get some great clothes off ebay though, so happy with that.
Anyway, going to head, as watching I'm a Celeb - I love this inane viewing!
Hope everyone is ok - sorry I haven't acknowledged everyone. See you tomorrow.
xx

AngeG · 15/11/2006 21:45

poor you 1becomes3, much too late to begin paperwork now.

Men are just useless. Every night I ask my DH if he has anything to tell me (bear in mind he runs a family business so nearly everyone working there is family or close friends) he never remembers to tell me things, then dh exwife tells me things when I next see her at work. It really irritates me.

WestCountryLass · 15/11/2006 21:46

Oh no, 1B3 To be honest I don't think many of them realise, I know my DH doesn't. Childcare is mostly my domain so I do sympathise.

Oh and on the gender thing, I am not counting my chickens baby is a boy. The kidney issue makes me swing that way but when we had DD, DH thought he saw a willy and the sonographer called baby a him and then out popped a little girl who was to be called Toby James

runnyhabbit · 15/11/2006 21:56

best to let it all out 1b3.

Just remember, women are superior beings -

1.Could you imagine a man going through 9 mths of body changes? As well as all the tests? And labour? Breastfeeding?

2.Not only are creating a new life inside us, but at the same time, we nuture the lives around us (dc, dh/dp etc)

3.We can turn our hand to anything, without a moments notice - nurse, doctor, politician, teacher, taxi, accountant, receptionist, chef, nanny, counsellor, sex goddess (the list is endless)

Although we love them (most of the time) men are far from perfect - but then they don't have to be with women in their lives

runnyhabbit · 15/11/2006 21:58

On my scan, I thought I saw a willy, but then the sonographer pointed out it was the umbilical cord

1becomes3 · 15/11/2006 22:06

Glad your mw app went well GGF.
So you didn't find out the flavour then RH!?!

weeonion · 15/11/2006 22:30

runnyhabbit · 16/11/2006 09:44

Good Morning all

Hope everyone is feeling better/good/well/all of the above

In much better frame of mind today. Indulged in a bit of retail therapy yesterday - got my little gold shrug to go with my party dress, and a cute hat (as some of us know, umbrellas and pushchairs don't mix!)

Is anybody else having real difficulty sleeping? Takes me ages to get off, then once I do, it's nothing for me to wake 6 times in the night, and not always for a wee! Tried all the usual things, reading, going at a decent time, not drinking or eating too soon before going to bed, but to no avail. Even bought myself some more pillows to prop bump up! Am now seriously considering sleeping tablets, but are there any that are safe to take during pregnancy? or should I see mw/gp?

runnyhabbit · 16/11/2006 09:57

Owwwww - just turned round quickly from my desk, and now my neck has gone very stiff and it hurts to move

I've just googled sleeping tablets & pregnancy. Not a good idea by all accounts. I knew that really

Greengirlforever · 16/11/2006 10:26

RH I am tending to wake up very early - anything from 4am onwards. But that is not really a problem as I just lie snuggling in bed. I am always shattered by the end of the day and drop of in seconds.

HOWEVER I have very occasionally suffered from insomnia during my non pregnant days and always hated sleeping tablets. What worked for me without fail (although I have no idea if it would work for anyone else) was... staying up so late until I practically had to hold my eyes open with matchsticks! I'm talking 2-4am. A couple of nights of this with having to get up at a normal time in the morning and the problem was cracked! It may well not work with pregnancy tho, but you could give it a try if you're feeling masochistic !

1becomes3 · 16/11/2006 11:20

My las appointment was 15 weeks with the consultant, the next one is scan at 20 weeks, any idea if I should be having one in between?
I know it is most probably different for twins but it just seems like a big gap.
(maybe cause i am bored)

hotlipsmummy · 16/11/2006 11:26

Hello ladies. I have been watching the thread on and off for a few weeks and have now got quite involved so thought I ought to join "properly".
Quick details - me 31, DH 31, DS 17 months, due 17 April so think that makes me 18+1.
Good luck to all with upcoming scans, looking forward to hearing all the news etc.

Harimad · 16/11/2006 12:26

Welcome Hotlips - as you can tell here, it's the more the merrier!!

I'm due April 15th and 18+4, so you might be 18+2 (if the day makes any difference!) .

Get yourself comfy - you're in for a long ride!

Bramshott · 16/11/2006 12:27

Runnyhabit - have you tried lavender oil? I've got some kind of roll-on thingy from Neal's Yard which is aromatherapy-based (mostly lavender), and I find that really helps, particularly if I use it regularly so I associate the smell with sleep. That said, I got up to DD at 2.30 this morning, then couldn't get back to sleep for ages and ages. Had first real pregnancy backache - the kind where no matter how you turn or how many pillows you wedge, it's still there. Was just lying there thinking "no - this isn't right, I only stopped throwing up 3 weeks ago, how can I have backache already?!?"

GGF - glad you heard a good heartbeat and met lovely midwives. I was told my placenta was in front of the baby, and have gone this week from no movements at all (19 weeks) to movements even DH can feel, and seeing hard bits poking out of the bump (19+4) - so it can all happen really quickly! I was so longing to feel it move, only now I wish it would stopp kicking me in the bladder when I'm trying to get to sleep!

1b3 - I think that's fairly normal. I get seen pretty regularly because DD was premature, but still only every 4-6 weeks. Talking to others on second babies, you can often go weeks and weeks without seeing anyone, particularly before 28 weeks. When the midwife gave me the list of regular appointments to have with her & the GP, I was amazed there were so few - I remember thinking that if this one is early too, I'll only have seen the community midwife twice - once for booking in, and once at 28 weeks!
Also commiserations re your DH - sounds pretty normal sadly. If I complain about being tired, my DH will more often than not say "why are you so tired" - making me want to retort "oh, not because I'm growing a baby inside me, just because I'm a lazy cow!" But you are growing not one, but two babies inside you, so deserve all the feet-up time you can get!!

Bought a new calendar yesterday, and was amazed to see that I am actually due on Easter Day!! Can't imagine that being fun - all the midwives will be off surely?!

mammyjo · 16/11/2006 13:09

Hi all. Welcome to hotlips!
Crap morning for me spent in A+E with my ds who fell down the stairs right from the top to the bottom He had been upstairs with me getting dressed for school and I turned to go into the bedroom to put the light off. In the time it took me to do that I heard a thud and ran to the top of the stairs to see him tumbling down head over heels and landing on the floor at the bottom bumping his head. Needless to say he was not a happy boy. I couldnt get down the stairs quick enough and my slippers flew off as I went! Poor thing cried for a good half an hour as he was so shocked and frightened. He is normally so good and has never even fallen down one step before. Took him to casualty just to make sure everything was ok by which time he was fine and quite enjoyed the attention! I was in tears after it all and now I keep seeing his little face as he got to the floor at the bottom. Feel really guilty, and yet he goes up and down the stairs on his own every day without me watching him. Its no wonder I have got so many grey hairs!!

Still got horrid cold too. Tili, hope you are feeling a bit better. I just cant seem to get rid of mine at all.

GGF and AngeG, thankyou for the book suggestions, will be going on Amazon in a bit to have a look for them.

Hope everyone has a good day!

weeonion · 16/11/2006 13:12

afternoon folks! and a big welcome to hotlipsmummuy! i think u r due the day b4 me - so the race is on

1b3 - i have been told that i can expect my earlier antenatal to be every 6-8 weeks apart but with baking 2 beans - i woul dhave thought yours would be more often.

just heading to antenatal now. going thru the usual nerves and excitement. forgot to do an early mornign wee so have had to do one now and hope a "fresh" one counts as well!!

have a good afternon folks

Sexonlegs · 16/11/2006 13:16

Mammyjo, what a dreadful fright for you and ds. I hope you are both ok.

Hope everyone else is well.

I have been xmas shopping this morning and am exhausted! Off again in a mo to do a few more bits - just tuking in to a yummy toffee muffin mousse thing from M&S - their food is just the best!!!

Catch up later.
xx

geordiemacminx · 16/11/2006 13:26

Hope you are both ok MJ.

WO... thanks so much for your kind words earlier!! Good luck with your appointment. Let me know when you are back.

Oooh toffee muffin sounds good.... I've just had chips and curry sauce from the van near work... they have made my fingers go a very funny colour.. god knows what they re doing to my insides.. hey ho!!!

Off to debenhams tonight to see if they have anything decent in the sale.. in need of new bras and trousers... got old trousers on at the moment, zipped half way up and tucked into themselves... very attractive!!! Think it's going to be dp's treat, firstly for his comments earlier in the week and secondly cos he bought a bloody xbox 360 last night... he's 43 FFS!!!

hotlipsmummy · 16/11/2006 13:31

god how frightening Mammyjo! We don't have stair gates (long story about how DH and I couldn't agree on which ones so didn't get any!!) but DS seems to manage ok and I haven't been worrying about it... might do now!!! Anyway glad to hear he's ok now and I'm sure it will all be forgotten in no time.

I also feel like there's very little in the way of antenatal appointments - I've seen the MW once so far and next appointment is the week after the scan (29/11). Just weird that noone seems that bothered to see us until the 2nd half of the pregnancy...

heidle · 16/11/2006 13:44

welcome hotlips!

bless you mammyjo, I know exactly how you feel, I opened a door and found my ds1's toe right behind it - the nail fell off, blood everywhere, so off to a&e! like you say, a great way to spend the morning!

gmm - hope you get some good bargains in debenhams, and some treats too, not just practical stuff!

liath · 16/11/2006 13:55

What a nightmare, Mammyjo - poor you! I'm sure ds will have forgotten already but these things stay imprinted on mummy minds. I fell down the stairs carrying dd when she was a baby and although we were both fine it was a really nasty fright. Big hug to you.

Welcome Hotlipsmummy!

We're away again this weekend, off to London for BIL's 40th birthday party. I need to get myself in party mode because at the moment I'm feeling grumpy at having to leave dd, not having any clothes that fit and the prospect of not being able to drink. Have cheered myself up with the thought that at least I can sit on the train in peace & quiet and read a book!

pesha · 16/11/2006 14:17

Mammyjo thats awful it must have been terrifying, so glad he's ok. Ds goes up and down stairs on his own all the time and he's only 3, even when we did still use the stairgates he could climb over them! He used to grip the bars between his toes like a little monkey! You mustn't blame yourself at all, its just one of those horribly unlucky things that could have happened to anyone.

Welcome hotlips

Thankyou all for birthday wishes, was actually a better day than i'd expected, dcs (with a little help from daddy!) got me some lovely DKNY be delicious perfume, probably not something i would have chosen for myself but am really loving it! Had lovely boots from dp a couple of weeks ago cos i wanted them but couldnt afford them so told dp he could buy them for me for my bday and have got money from people to buy bits for my house so a trip to ikea is in order!!

Dd is being wonderful at the moment and keeps telling dp he has to do things and i have to sit down and rest cos im the one with the baby in my tummy not him!! Although she seems really set on calling the baby alicia (if its a girl!) which is very pretty but not really us, I really like lily although still undecided. Her school have given permission for her to finish early wed to come to the scan which is good although I would have taken her anyway but nice to have permission!!

I'm going to have a look at ome of those books for ds, Ive told him and he's not really asked but i would like to explain abit more and to be prepared if he does ask. DD has a book called made with love that explains everything but think he is a bit young for that, it would just be information overload. i want something that will just show baby in mummys tummy really and then new baby joining the family with the other bits covered briefly if he asks. Was talking to a friend the other day saying how ds is more simple than dd at his age, not simple in a stupid way, he seems very intelligent and very good at working things out, just less complicated and accepting of things on one level, he asks why much more than she did but doesn't delve into things in the same way. I think adult men and women are much the same!

Baby has been doing something new today which is causing sudden shooting pains like little electric shocks at the bottom of my womb, started on my right and it was causing a corresponding pain at the top an instant later and now it has moved across to the left where it just pain at the bottom. Ive felt kicks at the same time so think it must definitely be bean moving but not very impressed with it atm!!

Oh and very at all you with colds as you have given it to me and it must be you cos noone else I know has a cold!
