Evening everyone - congrats on scans - littlefrog - my ds2's head wasn't on scale when born (still big!) but he is quite clever so the pain was worth it!!!

My DH being fairly well behaved - odd moments when feel like getting in car and going off for a couple of hours down time - one day he gets the pg thing as is kind and helpful then next day he is arsehole (sorry dh!) and really makes me mad.

There is something in my head telling me that I am having twins - I have had a scan at 8 weeks and one bean but 4 people have said they have a habit of hiding...also in maternity clothes at 12 weeks, big belly, lots of movement and kicks, can feel baby in the morning asleep at the top of my uterus (aaahhhhh!) etc etc - maybe should ask on multiples thread - there are also twins in the family - and my subconscious telling me that I need a 7 seater car...how paranoid does that sound!!!

Can you believe they now charge £10 for a scan photo? Blimin outrageous - but will obviously pay!

I feel pretty bonded with this bean - you can't go through that much together already and not either love or loathe them! I struggled to bond with ds1 after the birth mainly due to breastfeeding nightmare and torturing myself about doing things right - with my second because I was more relaxed and knew in my own mind what I wanted for us, I bonded instantly.

I came home from work completely knackered - went to bed at 6.30 - left dh to put boys to bed - fast asleep then at 7.15 ds2 wakes me up and voila wide awake!grrrrr

It's Friday tomorrow - yiiippppppeeee!

1becomes3 · 16/11/2006 20:49

Quick question for any one with DC have any of you had a section and been put to sleep through it?
I was awake for my first one and can't say I enjoyed it, may be because of what I had to go though before hand.
I don't know if I want to be awake or asleep through this one, just want to know if there are any unpleasant side effect from being asleep?

Congrats on the scan littlefrog.

CornflakeKid · 16/11/2006 21:06

I was awake - if it wasn't an emergency I would have to be awake to see the baby or babies in your case - for me that would be unmissable - I think when sections are planned rather than after a difficult labour or an emergency the experience is much better - my sister had her second section which was planned and said it was wonderful in comparison to not being there as such. You should go with whatever makes you happiest 1becomes3.

Still WIDE AWAKE...have perused ebay and freecycle, had hot choc .....

Sexonlegs · 16/11/2006 21:08

10 quid for a photo - are you in London?? Ours are 3 quid, and I seem to recall they were that much when I was pg with Becky.
I have been getting some really sharp twinges this afternoon/evening - quite painful, but a sure ok.
It's all such a blooming worry!

Going to watch Catherine Tate, so will see you tomorrow.

Hugs and kisses. xx

CornflakeKid · 16/11/2006 21:23

No - Bath - ironically the £10 sticker has been stuck over the the one which says £4!! I can only assume it comes with a complimentary £6 car park ticket for our next visit! (NOT) I know the NHS is strapped for cash but think taking the piss slightly.

Bramshott · 16/11/2006 21:38

Ours are £7 (Guildford), and I thought that was steep - only then gmm or someone reminded me that in Scotland they have to shell out £100s for the scan in the first place, so that put it in proportion!! It does seem cheeky though - it's not like it costs them anything, unless that thermal paper is suddenly dead pricey?!

Having a quiet night as DH has gone camping on Dartmoor (bonkers man!), so am planning a huge bath and early bed (may have missed that now!) surrounded by 20 pillows to ward off my newly emerged backache. Have just been on Ebay ordering one of those wheatbag things you put in the microwave, and hope it comes soon!

Bugmum · 16/11/2006 21:41

Ours are 2 quid. Even that seems a little steep, especially as you have to have the right money, or no pic!

twinkle183 · 16/11/2006 22:30

Our pics in Cornwall are a donation!! You pay what you feel the pic is worth and they usually just throw about 4 or 5 at you on your 20wk scan!!!

Haven't been on for a while as ds isn't very well and is extremley clingy not that I am complaining!!!

Only a week now until my scan!! Dh and I have a bet on what we are having - I am convinced its a boy and he thinks a girl.. so can't wait to say I told you so...!!!

I have lots to catch up but just thought I would pop in and say hello and wish everyone the best of luck for upcoming scans.. Finally got my blood result back from the Downs test, have a 1 in 5000 chance...

Hope everyone is well

Take care

muminamini · 17/11/2006 09:07

Hello all

Not posted for a few days buthave managed to catchup! (just! lol)

It's fab hearing about all the lovley scans - congratulations to everyone and welcome tothe new ladies and their wrigglyones.

Not a huge a mount to report here - wasn't so well on Wed so didn't go into work and just slept while DH was at nursery.

Can't beleive I am 18 weeks today - that seems to have gone very quickly - definatley must be because I have DS to run around after this time! The Pelvic pain has been ok the past few days - just going to have to be reallyc areful I think as if I do too much walking etc it kicks in...so now I have an official excuse to be a lazy arse!

Sorry to hear about the badly behaved DH's! Mine is being not too bad at the moment but I definatley agree that he is not as involved emotionally in this pregnancy yet and I told himlast night that I really felt that he just expected me to get on with it this time as I had "done it before". I didn't rant just pointed out that some days are better than others and that it is a whole different ball game this time when I have a house to run, part time job and DS to look after (by time DH is home every night our DS is bathed and ready for bed....he gets the nice bit of reading the bedtime story and not the screaming, writhing 2 year old who doesn't want to wash his hair and brush his teeth which can be very emotionally draining and a physical challenge too!

I think men in general just get a bit frightened when confronted with fatherhood...my DH (we were not married at the time) definatley panicked that he was now "settling down" and ended up e-mailing and having text relationships with random women from the internet until I got suspicious and found out... thankfully we managed to work through it but it was very hurtful to me being hugely pregnant and feeling at my absolute most unattractive and of course vulnerable at the time. I think if we can remember that it is scary for them too and try and just keep any line of communication open then you should be fine...if we made it and ended up married and having another than I hope that gives others hope....

Gosh where did that come from?! lol
Telling you all my deepest darkest here!
Got some fantastic news last night - the girl that I paid my Farepak money too got a letter from Visa that said that they noticed she had paid to Farepak using her Visa Debit card and if she filled out the enclosed form and sent it back the full amount of money paid would be refunded within 48 hours!!! Absolute Result! I thought that only applied to Credit Cards but apparently not! Can't tell you how pleased I am - just feel for the other poor people who are not so lucky and will be so glad to be able to pay my kind relatives back who lent us the money we thought we had lost.....so looks like Xmas may be ok after all!!

Well best get on...have a Kitchen floor to clean and a toddler to dress!

Have a lovley day

MIAM - 18 weeks today (I like to think of it as being in my 19th week - or am I just kidding myself!?)

weeonion · 17/11/2006 09:10

morning folks - yet another weekend is nearly here! spent ages reading all the threads and that was just a days worth! anybody know how to work out how many of us are on this thread??

hope you are all ok today - less ms, stress, inconsiderate dh/ dp etc etc. i really want to know when we will all start enjoying being pg and "blooming"

went for antenatal yesterday - really lovely mw. spent ages talking over things in general and i guess she has made me realise that 16hr working days will have to end shortly! blood pressure way up - relaxation on the cards. she also told me to think about being off on maternity from 32 weeks - anyone else told this? when would be usual??

muminamini · 17/11/2006 09:10

ooh and pics here are free at the scan! -we must be very lucky!
x

muminamini · 17/11/2006 09:19

Hi weeonion

Last time I finished at 30 weeks because we were moving house and to a new area and it tied in exactly with our completion date - I then had a couple of months to nest and laze about - it was bliss. I would definatley recommend it - particularly if you have a stressful job with long hours and lots of travel like I had at the time. I was lucky as I used a load of my holiday up together so it didn't eat into my maternity leave - but now we get 9 months of it we could afford a few more weeks before! lol

runnyhabbit · 17/11/2006 09:25

morning all

how much for scan photos ?!!!? Here they are £2 per pic, but I think it depends on how nice the sonographer is. With our first scan, we paid £4 and had 2 pics. Then this week, we still paid £4 and had 4 pics. Either the sonographer was being generous, or she felt sorry for us because baby was moving so much. Actually, now I've looked at them again, one of the pics is a bit blurry

Oh heck, another very active child

IsabellaMoi · 17/11/2006 09:33

MIAM - excellent news about getting your money back! What a happy surprise for you that it is suddenly all okay...

I think we paid 3 pounds for pics here in London.

Weeonion - so nice to hear about caring midwives who are patient and personal and take a genuine interest in you. Glad it went so well!

Enjoy Friday everybody!

sallycinnamon · 17/11/2006 09:37

Our hospital charge £5 for a scan photo. I'm sure they used to be free. When we went for our 12 week scan we had to cobble together all the loose change we had. I would have been gutted not to have had enough money to buy one.
Hope everyone has a good day. I felt so emotional yesterday and wanted to cry constantly. Damn hormones!

weeonion · 17/11/2006 09:38

muminamini - result. really delightd for you cause i know how gutted you were at the time! aint it lovely when nice things happen

geordiemacminx · 17/11/2006 09:41

Morning all!!!

Yep, scan pics are free up here, get 3 or 4 depending on how kind the sonographer is!!! On the down side, having to pay £150 for 20 week scan... still not to worry - I'm lucky that we can afford it.

MIAM so pleased that you are going to get your money back.. I'm sure you will have a wonderful xmas!!

I went late night shopping yesterday, managed to get a couple of bras, couple of pairs of trousers a cardi, dress and t-shirt oh and some new make-up... all courtesy of dp!!!

Was awake at 5.30 this morning eating weetabix.. the baby was starving!! So am knackered and hungry now!!!

Weeonion.. my email address is on the scan thread.. drop me a line babe!!

maveta · 17/11/2006 09:41

Wow, how many posts? Just reading them all and catching up has used my 'cup of tea before I start work' time so got to dash already!

Hello to everyone though, still so envious of all of you with scans recently passed or about to happen...still 3.5 weeks til mine ..on the plus side I have it just when I get back from the UK from visiting my sister and girlfriends for 2 weeks...roll on holidays!

THEN I'm off work for the whole month of december...yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

Take care all of you and good luck with upcoming scans/appts etc etc.

runnyhabbit · 17/11/2006 09:48

Miam - fantastic news about getting your money back, esp after all the stress it put you through at the time.

Gmm - lol at your weetabix fix. That was my craving with ds. Towards the end, I was eating about 8 at a time Funnily enough, this time around, I can't stand the stuff And also good to here that dp treated you. Might get my dh to read your post

Bramshott · 17/11/2006 09:53

Great news on the Farepack money MIAM - that must be such a weight off your mind!

Backache is still here so I'm a bit worried that the last 3 weeks were the "blooming" bit, and now we are in for the long achey haul! I've started doing some of the allegedly 'back-strengthening' excercises recommended in the books - anyone else doing any?? I think I was probably much more dedicated about doing them last time!

Weeonion - I think most people stop work at about 36 weeks, but obviously it depends on your job, commute and health. If you are regularly doing long hours and can't cut down, you might be advised to give up sooner. Last time I gave birth suddenly at 33 weeks, so I'd worked a whole week, then both days at the weekend, the Monday despite feeling rough, then gave birth Monday night. However, I'm planning to listen to my body much more this time, and take it easy where I need to - having a baby does tend to throw the whole work thing into proportion. Mind you, I'm planning to work until 39 weeks this time as I work from home now, and to be honest, it's more restful than a whole day at home with DD! I'm also self-employed so I can hopefully wind down a bit at the end.

Blimey - the rain is lashing down here! Currently waiting for a text from DH to say whether he, his friend and their tend survived intact on Dartmoor last night. If GGF or anyone from Devon is on here this morning, can you tell me what the weather was like down there? I am unnaccountably worried until I hear from him, but then I am a worry-wart, and I know that he probably just doesn't have a phone signal!

19+5 (OMG - 20 weeks on Sunday!!)

Bramshott · 17/11/2006 09:55

Sorry - for tend read tent!!

emmymummy · 17/11/2006 10:19

Morning all. Very of all these 20 week scans. Mine's not til 15th Dec (they do them at 21-23 weeks here) so hopefully some nice news just before Christmas.
Sadly the happy hormones seem to have deserted me today. DD was hell on earth to get ready for school today and I ended up shouting my head off at her. Now feel very bad. 4 year olds don't understand hormones, but in the heat of the moment it's hard to remember that.

heidle · 17/11/2006 10:28

great news on the farepak money MIAM - what a relief! The christmas fairy must be starting work early this year.

Scan pics up here were free at 12 weeks, but we'll see next week if that's still true at 20 weeks!

they were £ 1 each in newcastle (that's 3 and 5 years ago) but one lovely nurse gave us 4 free coz we were so relieved to see movement after having had a missed miscarriage before!

muminamini · 17/11/2006 10:34

Apologies for copying a post I have put on another thread but I MUST get ready soon - an unexpected e-mail has delayed me somewhat this morning...

Dear lovely wonderful Mumsnetters...

I am a relativley new mumsnetter and only go on my Antenatal Thread and until I received and e-mail from Soapbox this morning I had no idea at all about this scheme that you are running. I really should venture out into the wider Mumsnet world!

I am sitting here with tears streaming down my face at your kindness and generosity. Whoever nominated me - what a lovely thought and it really is so nice to know that there are such caring people.

I however am a lucky person in other ways too and last night got a call from the lady who was my Farepak agent to tell me that she had received a letter from her bank. They had noticed that she was a Farepak customer who paid to them every month using her Visa Debit card (after collecting all our cash together) and as such is entitled to protection from Visa. I thought this only applied to Credit cards but apparently not so and we are due to have the money she paid out credited in full back to her account in the next 48 hours.

Obviously I am over the moon but feel for the rest of the people who have not been as fortunate as me.

This whole episode has taught me a great deal, my 86 year old grandmother and my dad gave us the money to cover the £300 I had STOLEN from me by Farepak and that made me so very angry but obviously very grateful that they could help me out. It has also taught me that there are wonderful genuine lovely people out there and I am proud to be a member of such a fantastic bunch of people.

And now I know that this is up and running I'd like to send something for those a little less fortunate than myself.

Thank you so much again - sorry it's long and waffley - I'm pregnant and very emotional!!!!

MIAMx

But I just wanted to say thank you to all of you again here on this thread - your wonderful and I haven't stopped crying for 20 minutes now

Love to you all

Pauline, Phil and James

Morning all, I'm in a better mood now, as for some reason the christening in liverpool has been cancelled, THANK GOD!
And DH feels bad for being such an arse recently that he is taking DD off my hands for the whole day saturday and is taking me to my favourite chinese (all you can eat!!!!!)
I am going to use this time by staying in bed all morning and then going and having some retail therapy with my friend.

So I'm feeling alot happier today!

On the scans thing, ours are a donation, (which we forgot to give for the last pic.)
Its quite surprising seems we are only 1/2 hour from London.
