Hi everyone,

My scan's the 27th as well - is there something about Mondays?!

GMM that argument was almost, line for line, one I had with my dh the other day (re. me having a second mini mars bar - he thought it was appropriate to puff out his cheeks and say "you'll balloon"). Like you, what upset me was that he couldn't just realise that, no matter how he INTENDED it, his remark had upset me and he should apologise!! The reason for that is he finds it almost impossible to admit to being wrong, and as for apologising...
(he did, eventually, a few hours and many tears later). ANyway, not sure what that achieves apart from to say I absolutely agree with you and hope things are sorted now.

Anyway, have had a MW appt today, was very nice as got to listen to the heartbeat. As I can't feel movement yet it was really reassuring, there were also some swooshy sounds that she said were baby moving around or kicking.

Katy44 · 14/11/2006 17:18

off to have a mini-mars bar (halloween left overs ) -HA

runnyhabbit · 14/11/2006 18:31

Hi all

Scan went really really well Sonographer(?) said we have a lovely baby, but it was so active it took her ages to get the scan pictures for us. Ds was really well behaved, and kept pointing at the screen and smiling!

1b3 - ds (18mths) has just gone through a bout of teething too (lovely nappies to match!)

maveta · 14/11/2006 18:52

Hello All

I´m not sure if I properly introduced myself, I popped up a wee while ago but don´t post very much, anyway in case I didn´t, I´m 17 weeks today (like Tili I think) but don´t have my scan until 12th Dec, this is our first (us first timers seem to be a bit of a minority on here or is that just me??) and as we live in Spain I am full of trepidation re. going through a different health system. So far, so good however.
Is this pregnancy going fast for most of you? I feel like time is crawling by!
Anyway hello again and now I´m off...

CaptainDippy · 14/11/2006 19:43

Boo!

Off out to a friend's "Chocolate Party" in a mo, so can be long - Yum!

I think my scan is actually one of the latest - 20th Dec - I'll be about 22 + 5 by then - Anyone later?? Very exciting - looking forward to the 27th!!

YES - I DID have my Mocha - AND a spicy meatball panini AND a chocolate tavoletta AND heartburn!!

Ouch - yuk!!

Twas worth it though!!

1B3 - SNAP!! My DD2 is 18m (when's her B'day??) and is teething like a lunatic atm, bless her!! She's only got four teeth - two at the top and two at the bottom, but two more teeth are nearly through at the top and countless others seem to be making their imminent prescence felt. Poor bean! Saying that - she's got four more teeth than DD1 had at this age - she didn't get her 1st til 22m!!!!!! She's still missing all the back ones now at nearly three!! Awwwww!

Gotta go - chocolate calls .......

1b3 i have terrible memory loss, took me about 30 seconds the other day to remember what month it was and i dont mean oh is it oct or nov i was completely lost thinking is it may or february or...had absolutely no idea! And I've said it before but would again like to apologise to anyone who's posts i ignore, I really dont mean to but memory is hopeless. So (((hugs))) and and and to anyone whos posts ive not replied, I do care really

Im not going to comment too much on selfish men as I'll get carried away and say very harsh things as horrid men ruined both my previous pg and im sure you're men aren't really nasty just abit lost themselves with all the changes, as it turned out my dp was last time only he took it to extremes!! He knows much better now though and i still get the odd beached whale comment but it is very quickly followed by only joking baby and lots of sucking up about how lovely I am! He has learnt the hard way that I lose my sense of humour when pg although he still needs abit of reminding every now and then!! Men just cant help taking the piss can they!

Tili I have to say I did have really bad after pains 2nd time round, much worse than 1st time, so I would stock up on painkillers just in case but i think like anything it varies from person to person. I remember after ds and the placenta were delivered saying to the mw 'it still huuurts' so she said she'd get me some paracetamol I wanted the gas and air back!! It also took them ages to get me any paracetamol so this time ill be taking a secret supply of my own in, I dont think you're supposed to but I dont care!!

I cant decide what to do about drinking, I had the occassional drink both times before but now i've seen a few things that you say you shouldn't drink at all including an advert by the fetal alcohol syndrome assosciation or whoever they are, some official charity thing (sorry brain blank again!) and I cant help thinking yeah its prob ok but what if? Or if there is something wrong with the baby i wanna be able to say I did everything I possibly could. But then i drank before and both kids are fine its only a few drinks every now and then and its my birthday tomorrow then its christmas and Ive got loads of 25cl bottles of nice white wine dp got from work before i was pg just sitting in the fridge calling to me!! And then my brain explodes so i go back to browsing the web for pushchairs cos i can handle that, just about!!

CaptainDippy · 14/11/2006 19:51

Alcohol makes me wanna heave when I am PG - so that is decided for me then!!

pesha · 14/11/2006 19:59

Runny really glad the scan went well

runnyhabbit · 14/11/2006 20:07

CD and 1B3 - when are your dc's birthdays? I'm thinking they must be around the same age as ds, and he was born 4th May.

Going now, got a pile of washing to sort through [cheesed off emoticon here please]

night all

Hello

Great a new thread, the other one was getting a bit long. I think we must be one of the busiest antenatal threads.

My 20 wk scan is 23rd November. Can't wait although really worried they'll find lack of fluid or bean not growing properly.

GMM - Sorry you've had a hard time with your DH. Glad you've sorted it out. It must be quite a difficult time for him with his daughter being so unhelpful. No excuse though really.

GGF - I completely agree with you. You are allowed to complain about the problems pg arises. Doesn't mean you're unhappy about being pregnant.

Doobydoo and anyone else suffering with SPD lots of hugs and sympathy to you.

Not much of a drinker at the best of times so will be designated driver for everything this year

Tili sorry to hear you're poorly hope you're feeling better soon. Hugs to you.

Runnyhabbit glad your scan went well

CD chocolate party that sounds great

Just a suggestion, i've noticed on another antenatal thread that they have a different thread for everyweek. Just says due in... week beginning .... Wondered if this might be a good idea for us cos we are such a chatty lot. I can't do things as clever as starting a new thread but just though I'd suggest it.

Sorry if I've missed anyone out. Hope everyone ok.

liath · 14/11/2006 20:35

Oooh! A chocolate party! What a fabulous idea......shlurp!

Have had the odd very small glass of wine, also Sainsbury's do low alcohol beer - only 0.5%!

Hello & welcome maveta - how's the nappy hunt going?

heidle · 14/11/2006 21:19

oooh a shiny new thread!

when will men learn that it's never good to joke about a woman's weight - it's not a joke, even if you are totally gorgeous like we all are!!
don't think mine would dare atm, tbh he's so busy being continually flattering and lovely, just in case I'll give in and have sex. tmi I know - sorry, but am I the only one who still can't be bothered by the end of the day? By the time I've got my 2 monkeys into bed, cleared a path through the toys and checked the school bags for notes, the thought of bouncing around naked like a beached whale (it's all right for me to say it) makes me want to run away!!

WestCountryLass · 14/11/2006 21:32

I had my 20 week scan today. I can't believe I am half way already!

The scan was brilliant, the scanner showed me everything was OK (as OK as they can tell you) from the head to the toes. She even showed us the cerebellum (sp?) and showed us very low risk of spina bifida as had formed properly.

One thing was that there was fluid in the kidneys but it was just within the normal range and I know this is very common with boys. The sonographer also said "he" and I asked her if it was a slip of the tongue and she said "no, no, it has hard to say 'baby this and baby that' all the time" but I am edging my bets on this one being a boy - although did not ask and she did not confirm.

CaptainDippy · 14/11/2006 22:02

Ooooh, WCL - how exciting!! Can't wait for my scan, but soooooooo long away ......

Chocolate Party was good, but no enough free choccie, IMHO!!

Off to bed ......

CornflakeKid · 15/11/2006 07:52

Congrats on scans - all very exciting.

I would recommend voltarol suppositories for after pains/episiotomy/section pain - although not the most pleasant method of pain relief it is very effective and tbh so many people have seen your hamburger by then you won't care - I used to do them myself in the end. Paracetomol or coproxomol didn't touch the pain with me - esp after section - if you need stronger pain relief - do tell them - otherwise its paracetamol - they don't give out costly pain relievers if they don't have to! I think they are fine with breastfeeding too - but would double check.

I have had the odd glass of wine over the last couple of weeks - felt too ill before - think that one or two once a week is fine. I worry more about the huge quantities I drank before I knew I was pg! I haven't had any blue cheese - but am sure if the cheese is cooked then any possible bacteria get zapped...don't hold me to it though! I have had carbonara a couple of times though - the heat of the pasta is meant to cook the eggs in the sauce but not sure.

On the autotrader website you can look for any car/van etc really quickly - thats how we found our C8. I have also changed to Sheilas Wheels for insurance - esure was £500 (shock) but theirs was only £268 which is great.

Have a great day everyone - may pop back before lunch!

runnyhabbit · 15/11/2006 09:09

Morning all

Feeling on a real downer today, and for no real reason I've got lots to be happy about - going to see some Christmas lights turned on this afternoon at the designer outlet in Bridgend (apparently G4 are going to be there!) Scan went so well yesterday (mammyjo - think I had same lady as you, she was lovely, and told us everything about our baby in a really easy way, not just technical terms) Dh gave me some money on weekend, just so I can treat myself. My spd seems to be under control, as long as I watch what I do. We have most precious, gorgeous ds (even the staff at his nursery think he's wonderful )
I hate feeling like this for no real reason, and just feel like I could burst into tears at the slightest thing.

These pregnancy hormones have a lot to answer for.

Bramshott · 15/11/2006 10:15

Awww Runnyhabit you poor thing. That was me on Monday, so I know how you're feeling. I think it's doubly difficult at this time of year, when the grey weather is enough to make you miserable anyway.

Pesha - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope you're having a good day.

Going to cut and run now while I still have the willpower! Will nodoubt be back later

Tili · 15/11/2006 10:29

Hi everyone.

Thanks for the heads up on getting the painkillers in for after this birth !! shall make sure we are well stocked up.

Still feeling yuk today keep having tea with honey and lemon as I try to avoid taking anything whilst pregnant but if I havent improved in a few days I will cave and reach for the paracetemol.

Happy birthday Pesha hope you have a wonderful day xx

Anyway must go may try and check in later
Take care all xxx

Tili · 15/11/2006 10:30

Oh and congrats on the recent scans glad all is well xx

Greengirlforever · 15/11/2006 11:02

Happy birthday to Pesha !

Runnyhabit I am having an ok day today but I know what it feels like! I don't think I am getting depressed as such but on some days I just feel so down for no really good reason. It really does seem to vary from day to day. Shopping helps, and failing that, surfing the net and planning what you want to buy isn't bad.....

1becomes3 · 15/11/2006 11:28

Congrats on the scans.

I want a chocolate party, that sounds the perfect thing for pregnant women(well me)!

WCL-It could well be a girl. My consultant with DD kept calling my bump a he and I was convinced it was a boy, so I decided that I would choose the boy name and DH could choose the girl name, BIG MISTAKE! I have a daughter called Frankie i have got used to it but still not liking it that much.

RH- DD's b-day is june 5th, this is the point when I count on my fingers to see if she is 18months..................................... AH well close enough, I am so terrible with my memory at the moment can't even remember how many weeks pg I am! I should write it down but I would only forget to do that aswell.
Answers on a post card please 24th april.

CFK- on the whole suppositories thing I 100% agree with you, I was a very slow healer with my section, They asked me how I wanted it, I asked what worked faster they said up my bum I said go for it!

My favourite memory from DD birth was some nurse shoving something up my bum as my mum was massaging my boob as I was having trouble bf!
(I soooooooooo don't have that type of relationship with my mum.)
Ohhhh that one still sends a shiver down my spine.

CornflakeKid · 15/11/2006 11:31

Happy Birthday to Pesha

I am the same as GGF - retail therapy soon sorts me out! Planning it is just as much fun!

Nearly passed out again - this time in sainsburys - had to stand at the cooked chicken counter and eat drumsticks til it passed. Must make sure I try to eat something every hour - have stocked up on fruit and cake!

Harimad · 15/11/2006 11:32

Happy Birthday Pesha !!

(((hugs))) to all those that need them, and Congratulations to all of those with good scans!!

Marveta - I'm a first timer too (and 'old' with it - 36!). Like you, I'm finding this all going very slowly at the moment, although I've started to feel the sproglet move now, which is very exciting!
Since DH and I are fairly set in our selfish ways, the fact that time's going slowly is hopefully giving us time to prepare for the MASSIVE upheaval having a baby will bring to our lives!!

Tili - sorry to hear you're suffering - colds are really doing the rounds at the moment, aren't they?
